Got my JetBoil five years ago and after less than a dozen uses, it finally time to buy a new fuel canister. The sign on the shelf for 4oz and 8oz ISO did not specify which brand so I asked a friendly associate. I didn't know that JetBoil branded isobutane canister can be used for MSR and vice versa. Cool beans! Also, the 8oz is a better deal than the 4oz and the only disadvantage is that it won't fit inside the JetBoil pot. The cashier asked if I want to apply some past credit I forgot about which brought the total expense even less! While there, I checked out the latest trail running footwear which I am due to be acquiring as well! Came in the middle of the week at 3pm and very few shoppers. read more

One star review. What happened to REI? I had a very bad experience at REI Tustin on El Camino Real. EVA and manager AARON falsely accused me of returning the wrong item, even though the item matched my REI account, app, original tags, barcode, and product details. They made this accusation in front of my family and other customers, which was very embarrassing. I asked them a simple question: "What exactly is different?" They refused to answer. That tells me they had no real answer. They accused me first, then avoided explaining their own accusation. While EVA was still processing the return, AARON told me to leave and threatened security for no valid reason. After all that, they still processed the return. So the item was correct all along. This was a false accusation, poor judgment, zero accountability, and terrible management. REI leadership should review this incident seriously. read more

Over the years, I have only placed orders through the REI website (w/ my Lifetime Membership), but the past couple of months, I have had more miss than hits with my orders and felt like I had been spending way too much of my gift card money on return costs than keeping the actual products. I know there is a REI in Arcadia but I rarely visit that area these days. A Friend recommended this location over the Arcadia one, as it is bigger and it was perfect because it happened to be on my route one day. I stopped by on a Friday afternoon and was able to return my online order quickly. The cashier was very kind and the return was quick. I never used the product, the sizing was just way off, even though I had followed the product's website video guide. When I visited, it just so happened to be Member Days so I took a look around. This location certainly has "everything." It feels rare to have a fully stocked store these days. Since I did not need anything at the moment, I plan on stopping by again in a few months when I have an idea of what to use my gift cards on. This is a great store for everything outdoors, hiking, walking, etc. In fact my foot doctor even recommended REI since I needed to buy a very specific shoe for a nerve issue. Robert was the head of the shoe department and we went when he was there. This store is located in the Tustin Market Place mall. Robert was really knowledgeable and knew shoes extremely well, even regarding the types for nerve problems. He must have brought out 7 different shoes including oofas...hoka...new balance etc..., and was super patient while I kept trying on pair after pair. I ended up buying the hoka brand, and then we discussed slippers as well. They didn't really have what I needed but he made some suggestions. Super nice and super knowledgeable customer support. Updating from my recent trip last week! Came to get some last minute hiking supplies for a trip to Zion, and the team here was super helpful. The store was stocked with the items I needed, and I was able to be in and out of there in about 10 minutes. REI also sells national park passes here, but this location was out of the pass I was looking for. They were able to check surrounding stores and gave us a few places that had it in stock. What could have been a bad situation was handled skillfully by store manager Wendell I came to make a return and was told that I could not because my return was outside of REI policy. This was incorrect and I was frustrated and disappointed. I asked to speak to a manager to explain to me why my return was outside of store policy Wendell the manager came up and tactfully explained that I was correct but also was compassionate in dealing with the employees mistake. This is my go to REI. Every time I come here, it's a pleasant experience. The team members are ALWAYS so friendly, kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. In addition to the great folks, THIS STORE is fully stocked with everything anyone could possibly need or want. Their inventory is AMAZING. & the deals they have are really great too. Today, I had the pleasure of meeting the GM, Wendell Berger. He is an MVP. I now know why this store is as great as it is. Wendell leads by example and sets the bar high. Everyone is great, however he went above and beyond for me today. I was in the knife section inquiring about a very particular benchmade model, and I was hoping they would have one of the older models hiding in the back of the store. That being said, Wendell went to the back, did research, took notes from the knife expert to help me procure the model I wanted. (I had concerns about the steel to metal ratio with the new models.) This is why I wanted an older model. Anyhow, I've been to REIs throughout the country. The service is unfortunately subpar compared to this location. I think the store is as strong as its leadership. & Wendell is TOPS, just like his team members. How often does a GM go above and beyond like this? He's a rare breed. Corporate needs to give him and his entire team a raise. I appreciate Wendell's dedication to client service so much. He and his team are truly fantastic, and they are the only reason I will HAPPILY spend my money here. Haven't been to this location in years and I can see why. Their customer service sucks. I came in with my girlfriend and my puppy. As soon we walked in our puppy got excited because there was another family with their dog. She was barking and pulled towards the other dog, but I had her on an extremely short leash that was wrapped around multiple times because she is still training. This was about 5 steps into the store... as soon as we walked out of sight from the other dog our puppy started to calm down. However immediately after walking into an isle so we were away from the other dog amd would not cause an issue, we were told that we would need to take our dog outside if she did not calm down. We were then told that it was a health safety issue... If this is the case then be consistent, dont allow anyone in with animals. I say this because the other family with their dog did not have any visible markings to identify it as a service animal. As a business if your not going to allow animals, thats fine, I get it. But if you had called ahead of time to ask, dont say you are "lenient with animals" then be a jerk about it 10 seconds into us walking into the store. read more

It's definitely the biggest REI I've been to. Their selection is much bigger than the Huntington Beach location. We must have tried on 12 pairs. They were sooooo patient, informative and helpful with us. Ethan was AMAZING. As a recent shopper at REI, my recent experience left me disappointed. I came in to make my purchase and the cashier asked me about my membership which I did not have. After the whole conversation about membership benefits, they told me I would receive a big cash back due to my $400+ purchase. Come to find out later that I did not receive any membership cash back benefits due to the items being slightly on sale. Overall disappointed for not only lying to me about receiving cash back, but also not explaining that the points cannot be used until February of 2026 (next year) which was not mentioned until I asked AFTER the purchase was made. Either the cashier was misinformed or intentionally misleading, but either way it is unacceptable. When you're paying for a membership, the least you can expect is clear and honest information. I hope REI improves their employee training and ensures their staff actually understands the benefit of the membership they are selling. read more

I had never visited REI until this past weekend. Upon entrance, I immediately noticed a lot of customers shopping and realized there was a holiday sale going on. There were plenty of 20-30% discounts on a lot of the apparel. Abe and another girl in the shoe section helped me search for hiking boots and socks which I was excited to purchase. I also bought 2 REI pullover shirts on sale. Ashley at the front register was pleasant and informative about REI's membership and available discounts. The sales associates are very rude and unhelpful. I purchased a Northface pants from them last week and I saw it somewhere else with 20% discount so I went back to the store and asked them if they can price match. One of the sales associate, JUDY ,was very unhelpful. I asked her if they can price match No she said , I told her that I can buy from the competitive store and return the pants . why don't you do that? JUDY said , she was very sarcastic and I didn't like her attitude. Instead of being rude and sarcastic, she could have told me that they have price guarantee for two weeks, probably JUDY didn't know that either . They having a big sale soon and maybe the pants I wanted goes on sale and I can use the two weeks price guarantee anyway Judy wasn't helpful at all. Great customer service and but not so great customer experience. Had some parts installed but later found the bolts to the motor cover on my e-bike completely stripped and the cover loose. As well as the dropper post lever bolt completely stripped and other miscellaneous bolts either over torqued or under torqued. That could be a serious riding safety issue if some of these things weren't found before hand. Love REI and having membership benefits, but we got to be better than that. read more

This place has all your camping, hiking, and outdoor needs! We came in here because we needed bear spray for our upcoming Yosemite trip and we ended up staying for a few hours walking up and down all the aisle looking at everything. I do believe their products are a bit more on the pricier side compared to Dick's or Amazon but I definitely prefer going in and getting my items and I know their good products! As of my review they were having a deal where if you bought the membership (one time $30 fee) then you got a $30 gift card. I could have sworn we had a membership before but it worked out because we got it this time. Also, the employees were all really nice! I believe the cashier that helped us was named Morgan (sorry if that's incorrect) but she was super cool! I'll definitely be back whenever I have outdoor needs! read more
