So I placed an order online, my fault, but found same shoes for 17 bucks cheaper so I tryied to cancel. They said since it had been 30 minutes, 45 to be exact, they could not cancel it on the hopes I would be to lazy to return. I explained that this was my first order and you can easily cancel the order, it's not like it's been put on the truck yet?! She refused to help me and said her supervisor would do the same. This review is strictly of my experience in the golf shop with Kevin. Dick ' s has a PGA Golf Pro in staff at all their stores who is capable of fitting you individually for your clubs based on his observations and experience and based on the data provided by your swing through the indoor driving range style machine they have. It was great to learn more about my swing through him and have him prove through this process things my golf pro was telling me during my lessons were not necessarily true like the fact I needed 1 inch over on my clubs or that I should be golfing with stiff clubs (my pro had recommended these settings but was shown otherwise) which I'm glad he did because I did notice the difference in the clubs and their performance, specially good to know things like that the stiff clubs are made for golfers that can generate a swing of more than 80mphs with the irons which I clearly was not reaching. Kevin was great in also informing me of the different brands and models of each club I had intended to try (I'm literally a few weeks into this golf thing so it is very intimidating trying to get into the purchasing process without some help). He let me swing the various sets ups and assisted with hints on how to swing each clubs to maximize it's features, we tried irons, wedges and drivers for almost two hours, all the meanwhile Kevin never seemed irritated with my questions or suggestions to try other clubs, you'd figure with the workload of all the other shoppers coming to the department and after two hours with me he'd get annoyed, not even a slight hint of it. That's when you know someone truly loves what they do, good for Dick's for finding Kevin, he made my day and my experience very memorable, I'll definitely be completing my entire set there and building my collection in the future. On a side note, I have had pretty good experience also shopping their Nike pro combat and Under Armour compression clothing there, I would buy more but Amazon usually has them slightly more competitive and they don't price match online retailers. Very nice brand new store with all kinds of great items inside. I typically buy elsewhere but go thru Dicks to see what I want though and get information. Its pricey so it does help to know ahead of time what you're looking for so you can go in and get info and get out and make your purchase elsewhere for a better price. read more

Came here with my son who plays foot ball, baseball and basketball. We were amazed seeing all the sporting goods and accessories. Dick's is huge, colorful, organized, fresh modern marketing is flowing on the walls and hanging from the ceiling. They have about everything you can imagine for your sporting needs. The apparel is well picked and they have a discount section if you're on a budget and a rewards program for return customers. Very pleased with this venue. Also, the associates there are very helpful and kind. If you're a sports buff or trying to be this is a spot you need to check out if you already haven't! read more

I badly needed a pair of running shoes. The lady by the entrance directed me to the back where Veronica, the running shoe angel awaited. She helped me find some great shoes in my price range, that were better for my fat feet. Then she smiled and recommended a special socks with a little cushion on the back. Let me just say that Roger the Manager is one amazing person! He is very knowledgeable and took time to make sure we found exactly what we needed for my daughters softball season! Definitely made my daughters day! He also took the time to call another store and see if they had the item we needed since they were sold out. I definitely had a positive experience and will surely keep coming back to buy all my sport needs! Mason the cashier did a great job and was very polite and helpful too! Only reason for two stars is because the store is nice, otherwise it would be one. Help and customer service there is non existent. If you do get any help, expect it to be very minimal with little knowledge of any product or motivation to do anything beside point in a direction. I eventually hit a "need assistance" button that was kind of hidden on a counter. An associate eventually came over to shut it off, then proceeded to go away before I stopped him. He seemed aggravated at this, and upon asking him if they had a certain product, he bluntly said no, it would be over there, and walked away. At check out, prepare for an attitude of you don't sign up for a rewards card. read more

I am fairly new to the game and he really took his time and shared his knowledge of the game with me. I went in for a volleyball...It's sometimes hard to find a clerk, but when you do, they're always helpful and nice. Great selection and not out of stock on things I always want (like other famous chain stores who shall go nameless). Came in to buy a gun. They did not have the one I wanted in stock, so I asked to order it. It was a regularly stocked item. But they were doing inventory. Come back Thursday, they said. Came back Friday. Can't order anything, inventory control issues. Come back next Friday. Went back Friday. Sure we can order it, but factory is closed, so call back in the morning. Called back. No special orders allowed. Really? After almost 2 weeks of hoping and praying for this item for a birthday gift, and I can't even order one? Three trips to the store sent me to Turner's, where they helped me right away, and will get the gun in time for my son's birthday. Bad experience at Dick's today. I received a pair of $175 Nike running shoes as a gift. I thought I'd try them on outside bc they are outside running shoes. Attempted to return them at the 3265 Sports Arena Blvd store in San Diego, CA. The rep looked at the tread and said, "You wore them outside, call Nike." In disbelief, I called Dick's corporate. Corporate called the store, got back on the line with me and said, "I spoke with the girl who helped you. She said the shoes were heavily worn with rocks in the soles. Call Nike." Honestly, there are no rocks in the soles, only light wear from walking around with them on the sidewalk. Now I'm stuck with $175 shoes that don't fit me, bc Nike sure isn't going to help either. I'm a local endurance athlete & CrossFit'er - and unabashedly very picky about my gear & where I purchase it. ...I typically only deal with independant, specialty sports stores ...& probablyy wouldn't have ever patronized a 'Dick's Sporting Goods' if you'd paid me to. My wife purchsed a pair of weight-lifting shoes from Dick's on-line website as Valentine's Day gift for me, but upon arrival they turned out to be 1/2 size too small. I'm not really a fan of "big-brand" sporting goods stores, so I was very reluctant to bring an on-line purchase back to the Point Loma location in order to up the size by 1/2. (Apparently you save $8 in shipping if you just bring them in, vice mailing them in for return). I'd read several horrible reviews on this paricular store on yelp, ...but Point Loma was the nearest location to me. Now - it was dissapointing that the Pt. Loma store didn't actually carry any weight-lifting shoes that I could directly exchange for my on-line purchase (...here in SD, seriously - as many Oly-Lifters/CF'ers as there are walking/running around [?]). ...But I have to confess that their customer service was just top-notch. They were able to to take the shoes back at the front desk and issue a refund to our account in about 2 minutes. Then they sent us back to Roger in the golf department to order the corrected size through their system and have them shipped directly to my home address at no charge. Everyone was extremely friendly and generally knowledgable about their products & services (contrary to most of what I'd read on yelp). I'd highly recommend Dick's to anyone looking for good sporting equipment and friendly customer service, and I intend to visit this location again. read more

Poor customer service. Purchased mouthguard which I decided to return, unused, unopened, untouched in original package with receipt, purchased 2 weeks prior. Told that mouthguards can not be returned. There was no sign near the items stating this when I bought it, the sales clerk didn't tell me that when I paid for it, and while there are a list of items that may not be returned clearly stated on the receipt, there is no mention of mouthguards. When I pointed all this out to the clerk who was refusing to refund my purchase and asked to speak to the manager, I was told that she was in charge and she would not accept it for return. 3 high school athletes playing every sort of sport, I'm in there all the time. I informed the clerk/manager that I would no longer shop there as this was indicative of the poor service I received there during various shopping trips. read more

I'm writing to share with you a very bad experience that I had with your company while trying to get a simple question answered. I have shopped at Dick's for several years and always recommend your company to family and friends. This experience however has made me think twice before entering your store. As you know in these hard economic times it's important that customer service be top notch. It's how you survive in the market place. It started in February 2013 when I purchased an Easton baseball bag from the San Diego Sports Arena location. I purchased the insurance coverage with the bag and went on my way. The bag held up for a few months, then the material started to tear causing my son's equipment to come out of the bag. I called the insurance and they told me the manufacturer warranty was one year and I would have to take the issue up with Easton. I called Easton and they told me they only cover bags for 3 months and that the insurance should cover it. After I explained that Dick's sent me to them they said "well if Dicks will not stand up to their insurance, Easton will make it right". The only problem is that 8 months had passed and I lost my receipt. This is where the poor service started. I called the Sports Arena Dicks directly and was told that if I went to the store they could give me a copy of the receipt because they can track the purchase through my Dick's scorecard. Not being able to go to the location, I called the scorecard customer service and asked them if they could please help me with a proof of purchase so I could get the bag replaced. They said there is nothing they can do because so much time had passed since the purchase. They gave me another customer service number and suggested I call them for help. I said no problem, thanks for the help. I called the number I was given and customer service said there was nothing they could do to help me and suggested I speak with "corporate retail" customer service and transferred me to them. I had the unpleasant experience of talking to "Antonia", or "Antoine", which I don't believe is her real name. I told her that I was looking for help to track down a receipt that can be sent to me so I could prove to Easton that I purchased the bag. She asked me when I purchased the bag and I told her it was in February. She laughed and said there is no way she can help me. So I said "is what your telling me is that I'm screwed because I can't prove the purchase". She replied by saying "no sir, is what I'm saying is that whenever I purchase something, I keep my receipt". This statement took our conversation to another level and I told her I was done speaking with her because I didn't appreciate her response. She said she was the only one working and that I could not speak with anyone because she is the only one working. I found this hard to believe and asked her if I could speak with a supervisor. She then pretended that she couldn't hear me and kept say hello, hello, hello, I can't hear you, hello, hello. The issue here is that our phone connection was fine before I asked to speak with a supervisor. She was clearly playing mind games with me. At this point I had to ask her if I was speaking with Dick's because up to this point my experience had been fabulous with the company. At this point I was no longer interested in getting proof of purchase, I now wanted to make a supervisor aware that someone had made a big mistake when they hired this person. She said I could not talk to anyone else because she was alone, so I asked her to please give my number to a supervisor and have them call me. She said "no problem, but if I were you I wouldn't expect a call anytime soon". I said "you must be kidding me right"? She said, "no, you will not be getting a call anytime soon" and she hung up on me. Prior to this conversation with Antonia... or whatever her real name is, I had nothing but great things to say about Dicks. I would even take my son to Dicks every Saturday just to walk around and look. This employee was a very bad hire and needs to be coached on the importance of customer service. She wasn't even close to listening, or helping me solve my problem. I work in a position that allows me to speak monthly to groups of 100 or more about customer service and the mindset that is needed when dealing with certain issues. I used to use a story about an experience I had at McDonalds several years ago to bring home the point of what not to do. I now have new material for my presentations. It's no longer about the bag, it's about very poor customer service! Thank you for taking the time to read this lengthy email, and I hope whoever made the poor decision to hire this person will now take the time to provide her 1:1 coaching that will stop her from losing customers. I can tell you that 100+ people each month in San Diego are hearing about her. read more

Yesterday I bought a "Fitbit One". No problem, same price as if purchased online. However, I was HARRASSED ABOUT BUYING the EXTRA WARRANTY. I declined and was then told why its important to buy the extra protection. Again, I declined. Another attempt, and i said No Thank You for the 3x. Now, here's the killer - he runs off my receipt but before handing it to me, he places down on counter, circles where it says I'm declining the extra protection and then he tells me he will initial it. I was dumbfounded. I will NEVER BUY FROM DICK'S SPORTING GOODS here again. You can ask me one time, but don't continue to use scare tactics and continually HARRASS me into paying more for protection. read more

I went to Dick's with my wife to buy her a bicycle. After checking their website, I called the Midway store and spoke to the "bicycle sales" guy. He confirmed they had the exact bike in stock and that the price was the same as the online price. We drove down to the store and confirmed it was the right bike. I was a little concerned about the competence of the "assembler" because the headset was over-tightened to the point it would ruin the bearings if left in that condition for any length of time (not to mention the safety factor). Since I know how to adjust a headset properly, and was planning to go over the bike closely when I got it home, we decided to buy the bike. Unfortunately we never made it out of the store. When we brought the paperwork to the cashier, another employee of questionable competence, we were stunned to hear the price was actually $100 more than the online price, and the price confirmed by the their own store employee the day before. That seemed strange to me because on the website you can check your local store's inventory for the item you're looking for, and it says nothing about the price being different. We took the bike back to the bike department, where we were told that if we wanted the online price, we had to go home, order it and pay for it online, then drive back to the store and pick it up. What? I ended up buying a bike at Sport Chalet (online price is the same as the in-store price and the bike department manager was actually competent). I won't be back to this miserable place ever. read more

This place is awful!! No one to help us anywhere. I was buying a soccer package for my 4 year old which should have been a fun experience. We had a problem with the special bundle so I had to seek out help. After exploring the ENTIRE store I found a guy who seemed to care less. He came over to where my son and wife were and was absolutely no help. He made it obvious that he cared more for his lunch break than the customers spending money here. After that we made our way to the register for check out. Another problem here. Jefferey the store clerk ringing me up referred to me as this guy on his wallow talkie saying to the manager " this guy has a problem with ect" totally unprofessional. Today I walked into Dick's sporting goods never have been a client here before. And I will absolutely never come back. I saw an item advertised at the lowest price of .2 cents I obviously check the barcode just to make sure it was the correct number and all the information was correct. They absolutely did not honor the price which is completely understandable, I wasn't expecting them to I'm sure someone made a mistake. The only reason I'm never returning to the store is as I was waiting for the manager to come and explain to me why I was not getting this price I can constantly see sales associates giggling over there headsets that they wear. I wasn't the only one that noticed is obviously other customers as well and this is the reasoning for me never to walk back into the store again. read more

Drove 30 minutes to the store to find out the person that could sell me the rifle was on a 30 minute break. After waiting 30 minutes I was told that the person I was waiting for couldn't help me after all! It would have been nice if they had let me know that up front. It seemed like I was inconveniencing the guy working the gun department. I was SO disappointed in our experience with Dick's Sporting Goods today. My husband visited the new Point Loma location around noon in search of some compression pants for running/crossfit. He spent a few minutes searching and was directed simply to the Nike or Under Armour sections. He continued to look and eventually found a pair in the brand he was originally in the store for (2XU Compression tights, listed on the website) and did find them but wasn't sure the 2x higher price point was worth it, so he left with a pair of Nike compression pants instead. Fast forward three hours later: he's just completed a workout in the Nike pants and they are already splitting at the seam (read: 1.5in hole) and have a snag quickly developing into a hole as well. I had an errand to run in the same shopping center and so I offered to return them and pick up the 2XU pants instead. I arrived at Dick's and tried to locate the pants myself in the section he described, but things were a little lost in translation between man-brain and woman. Things were also being moved around in the post-holiday sale, so I thought that perhaps that section had been bumped a bit. I asked no less than three associates (one who was apparently the 'apparel person for the night,' Christine) for help finding an item that I KNEW he had held in hand that same day. None of them were able to do more than point me in the Nike and UA section. I even pulled up the item number and listing on the website on my phone and asked an associate to see if they could find them through their inventory system. He condescendingly pulled up the public website and declared they weren't sold in store either. I was frustrated nearly to tears and my 4 year old was picking up on it, so I left. My husband was frustrated by the complete lack of CS and a bit worried what it would mean for an attempt to return the ruined Nike pants, so he went back immediately. Guess what he came home with? A pair of 2XU compression tights, directly from the floor. He even asked an associate again for help locating them, just to see what the answer was. He was met with a blank stare and a point towards the Nike section. I'm completely astounded that a total of 5 associates in one day had never heard of a product on the floor and had no desire to solve a customer's problem aside from a dismissive suggestion for a more popular (and less expensive!) item. read more

I called for an item I need later today and made a reference to what they had online. The guy on the phone said they had it. I made a special trip (Because I needed later in the day) and there was no one available to help. The girl at the front had no clue as to what they had and the guy pointed to the general direction for me to find. I still could not find it so went to the ONE guy on the floor (who also confirmed he was the only one on the floor) and had to wait for him get to get done with the guy he was helping. When he finally had a minute (no disrespect to the customer, he had every right to have the Dicks rep help him) we go to the area and points out an item which was not what I was looking for. Really bad employee coverage for such a large store. I've been in there numerous times (because I HAD to) and needed help but couldn't find it. Once, I walked the entire store, looking for an employee to help me and could find NO ONE but the cashiers at the register... Sad! I went to this store to return an online purchase, only to be told that since I paid with PayPal, they can only issue a credit via a gift card. First, Dick's needs to fix this - I shop online quite a bit, and many stores accept returns in-store, and are able to process credits through PayPal, back to the credit card linked to your PP account. When the woman at the register told me this, she gave me the option of sending the items back to Dick's myself, and my PP/credit card would be credited, and they would provide a shipping label, with NO CHARGE for return shipping. So, I get home and investigate, and in reading the fine print, it says that my return credit will be deducted $8.00 "for use of the label". Anyways, WAY TOO MUCH fine print, and completely inconvenient to return items purchased online. My issue with my visit to the store today is that the woman I dealt with, although friendly, obviously does not know the policies well enough. Now, I'll likely have to go back to the store again, as I'd rather have a store credit, than be charged for the return shipping. read more

Couldn't park close to the store, because all the parking spots near the store were reserved for fuel efficient or hybrid vehicles. A funny sight -- almost all the spaces near the store were empty. I asked the clerk why the store had such a policy. It will drive off customers. He said it was the shopping center's policy, not the store's. But that is not true. Went here last night for the first time and had some of the worst customer service ever from MARY. I was given a gift card a few months back and decided to buy some fishing gear with it. When I went to pay with it Mary said " there isn't money on that". I was confused because I had a receipt at home saying it had $25 and it was packaged as a gift card. I asked her what she meant and instead of explaining it in a polite, professional way she just kept saying "No. There isn't money on that" Turns out the person in my family sent me the wrong card and it was actually some Rewards card for the company. I get it. It's not like I was going to try and FORCE you to honor a Rewards card as a gift card, but take the time to explain it for a second before just saying "No" over and over again. I'm a manager in customer service and here's how the conversation should go next time you're presented with this situation MARY. First you apologize for the inconvenient news your about to give the customer "Oh, you know what, I'm sorry but it looks like there's been some confusion here. This is actually our Rewards card and not a gift card." Then you offer a possible solution, "Did you possibly receive another card or do you have the receipt with you?" Then you make sure the customer is satisfied and leaves with some intent of coming back to your business "Sorry about that mix up. I hope you can find out what happened. Thanks. Have a good day!" If I had an interaction even CLOSE to that, maybe I would think about stepping foot in that store again. But I didn't, and so I won't. read more

Over priced, terrible selection, they don't cater to female athletes AT ALL and their employees are useless.

I don't know if the employees work off commission here or just don't care about it. Every time we've been here we can never seem to find help or have any interaction with employees. When you finally do(at the register), they're unfriendly and rude. After tonight we will never step foot in or spend a cent here. We went in seriously looking for a treadmill. I assume treadmills are one of the higher priced items in the store so you'd think employees would be swarming us. Nope! We spent a good 15 minutes standing and looking at treadmills including the $1200 ones while 3 employees literally looked at us while walking by and not even smiling at us let alone offering assistants. We basically were invisible. To see customers in the store and not even say hello is insane to me. Finally we said screw it and started to walk out to see 2 of them standing around chatting with each other. The one employee(big girl) walked by us 4 times never once even acknowledging us. We overheard her being flagged down by another customer and she was short and rude to them. It's no wonder there were about 4 ppl in the store. It's a shame they bought out sports authority bc this place is insanely overpriced and has horrible customer service. We are big into fitness,buy good amounts of equipment,and live down the street but they won't see me again. read more

She walked up to register 1 and I could see that the employee was telling her to go back in line but his manager comes up and tells him to ring her up still. Are you serious? There was a line. I thought this place sucked. First of all, the sale racks were shoved up front in the walk way with barely any organization. Some with mens and women's on the same rack. In the cycling section, there was barely any selection. If you could find something you wanted it wouldn't be in your size. There were multiple things that there were only one of. I would've gotten the cycling capris in a medium but there was just one and it was large. Too bad. The men's and women's cycling shorts/capris/pants were completely mixed in- gender size and style. Better get to digging. I also didn't like that I had to interrupt a conversation between workers to ask to have the dressing room unlocked. The dressing room was a single stall out in the middle of the store. Awkward! Pick one- make me get dressed in a room in the middle of the store or make me hunt down an employee to unlock the dressing room. Don't do both. Just didn't like it at all. Won't be back. read more
