I came here awhile back to buy tennis racquets and over time, have gotten a lot better so decided to get new racquets. Went to Dicks sporting goods and found completely new Wilson ones for only $15! Kinda feeling a little bit scammed from this place now because the ones I got from here were hella used but paying only a couple bucks more could've gotten me better ones that are not used at all. I also understand some higher end models can usually go for 120$+ but the ones I got from this store vs Dicks are like about the same types. Needless to say, this place isn't your best option for tennis supplies tbh. read more

So kind! What wonderful service! I was the only one in the store and felt very COVID-safe purchasing a new wetsuit for my growing son. It was the only place out of 3 stores I tried in San Diego that had a perfect match. The salesperson-possibly owner? knew her stuff and had no trouble at all finding the right size for the right and height I gave her. Also I know that 4/3 thickness is necessary because my kids have very low body fat and need every mm of insulation. Yet a sales guy at another store tried to talk me out of needing a 4/3 without ever laying eyes on my son. Needless to say I didn't buy from him. The transaction at Second Chance was ultra quick and seamless. I was done in less than 15 min. Brand new Billabong wetsuit for a very reasonable price! Amazing! We have gone to Second Chance Sports quite a few times. Bought a bike, boogie board, soft ball equipment. Due to down sizing we took a bunch of stuff down to sell, and the woman accused my husband of stealing what he brought, then she called it low end stuff. What she failed to see was a Kelty tent (new was over $400), high end softball gloves, bat, and bag. Ya, there was a boogie board (from there), a ton of practice balls, a practice T, that may looked cheep. Things that would still sell fast seeing that softball season is here. So if you plan on selling anything, don't, unless you want to be treated like a lowlife thief. We are not shopping there ever again! read more

I love this store not just because of the wide variety of supplies they have for various sports, hobbies, and activities but the staff and service is always friendly. I'm still fairly new to SD and the staff always helps me find whatever I need. I love that they offer 3 balls for $1! Don't go here expecting any customer service whatsoever. The stuff in there is alright, the prices are too high for the quality. The thing that really puts me off of this place is the owner lady. I assume she's the owner, since she's the only person I've ever seen in there. I'll only describe the most recent experience since it's pretty similar to the rest. We came in looking for a wetsuit, and I could have used some help. Unfortunately, she was busy on a personal phone call with her phone on speakerphone. Every time she walked by, she would make eye contact, motion to me that she'd just be a minute, then continue her phone call... that lasted upwards of 10 minutes before I finally just gave up and left. Don't waste your time here. Go to PLAY IT AGAIN SPORTS IN PB!!!!! The guy that runs this place is a joke, super rude and condescending. I went in the other day to try to sell a snowboard that had been collecting dust for a couple years, I was about to take it to goodwill but then thought maybe I could get a few bucks for it here. As soon as I walked in he looked at me shook his head and said no snowboards... um how about hello? But ok. When I said "oh, you don't do snowboards?" He informed me that he doesn't take snowboards till October... I asked if he could tell me where else to go rather than going to goodwill, at which point he said "if it's free I'll take it". I thought you didn't take snowboards till October? Weird. I walked out with my board (a nice 51/50 board equipped with Ride bindings) this board will easily sell for at least $100 and all I wanted was an offer. Really, I would have taken $20-$30 for it. I went to Play It Again Sports in PB. They were super nice! Offered me a better price than I expected, and were happy to take my board even though it was off season. From now on I will happily make the drive from OB to PB for my sporting needs read more

I've been looking all around town for a fairly priced used bike. Let me tell you, much harder than it sounds. I was getting pretty frustrated and was ready to buy a brand new one speed cruiser with back-pedal breaks down in PB for $180. Luckily I checked out Second Chance before I made that purchase. There was a decent selection of used bikes here with a range of prices. Looks like you could pick up a one speed cruiser here for less than $100. I really wanted a cruiser with hand breaks and multiple speeds, and I found one here. The moment I saw this bike I knew it was perfect and it was VERY fairly priced. The bike I purchased is a 1971 Schwinn Suburban with 10 speeds and hand breaks for less than the new cruiser I was going to buy elsewhere. When I asked if I could take it for a test ride I was informed that the bike needed new tubes. The woman working there (didn't get her name, very nice) told me that I could purchase the bike and take it to a repair shop to have them look it over. I would have about 5 days to return it for a full refund if I ended up not wanting it (or if the repairs would cost too much). What a great policy! I purchased the bike and took it straight to Bernie's. Turns out the bike was in great condition and the repairs only cost $24. Very happy with my purchase here and the great service. They also have a decent surfboard selection, wetsuits, skateboards/long boards, baseball gloves, ect. read more

BAD BUSINESS!!! NEVER AGAIN! I bought a $400.00 bike at Second Chance Sports back in the beginning March. Since I gave them business they can give me business. Right? I thought it was a cool spot to recycle sporting goods so, I brought in a surfboard to have them sell for me. It seemed like it would sell in no time... The lady called me back saying that it was too much $$ and I would have to drop my price, so I did. I NEVER GOT A CALL BACK! It is now the end of September, 7 months later I thought I might as well get my surfboard back since I haven't heard from 2nd Chance Sports. I called, and the lady there was like "yeah, we sold that, . what was your name... I've been out of town" .. . "says here you've been paid". . . I said did you send out the payment? I never got a call I told her and she said she was out of town so... these things happen. All she could say was, "it was paid". What the hell does that mean? BAD BUSINESS! I stopped in here today because I've recently been looking to get a used wetsuit, and was disappointed in what craigslist.org had to offer... so I thought this place might be a good place to look. It was! The man who helped me was very friendly and knowledgeable, and was genuinely appreciative of my patronage. How refreshing! It turns out that at this place, I actually could've afforded a new wetsuit, but since I do happen to prefer reusing and recycling things, I ended up getting a used one. Great selection for the price range, and the only negative thing I have to say about it is the dressing room- it's just a little curtained area in the corner, and the problem is that the fabric they made the curtains out of is a little shy of transparent! I could see other people walking around the store as I struggled not-so-gracefully to pull on a wetsuit...only hoping they couldn't see me. :/ read more

Second Chance Sports is a good place to go for casual sporting goods. Like if you are on your way to the beach and need a football or a frisbee or a boogie board or something. This place is great. I went in for a ball pump. The owner was really helpful. He said he had just ran out. But he told me if I needed something filled, I could bring it into the store and he would pump it up with his own pump, free of charge. It was actually for a punching bad at my friends place, so no such luck. But I think he genuinely felt bad for not being able to help me. The selection here is on par with what one would suspect at a second hand sporting goods store. A lot of crap, and an occasional gem. The surfboard selection here is pretty bad, a lot of waterlogged boards, and the typical off brand crap I would never ride. There was a nice Round nose Fish by Lost when I was in the shop, but it was a thruster instead of a dual fin. Kinda lame. The wetsuits that they have are funny, and would make great props if you are trying to film a sequel to "Point Break." Johnny Utah would love this stuff. They did have some great longboard skateboards in stock, which was surprising. They also had some okay baseball and softball equipment. In the back they have a bunch of beach crusiers, some of which were quite nice, but there price tags did not represent second hand prices. All in all this is an okay second hand sports store, service is sub par, and the inventory is right about par with all other stores. read more

This place is pretty rad! I was looking for a long board skate board when I discovered this place. The woman inside was so friendly, and I instantly fell in love with her, and her cute doggy! They have a very wide selection, and a lot more room inside than you would think. I found the perfect beginner board. As I reached into my purse to get my wallet, I realized I left it at home! I was bummed because I was really excited to go outside and bust my butt on my new board. Since they were nearly closing, I was just going to get it the next day. However, the woman asked where I lived, and because it was just a short distance from her home, she offered to stop by after she left work. HOW COOL?!
