To the guy working in outdoor sports 10/1/16 at 3:48! YOU HAVE THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Today I called looking for 2 paddle board paddles. You had none. In fact you didn't even want to look cause you and I quote "vaguely remember someone buying the last one yesterday" but I insisted you double check. And you got off the phone for like 2 seconds and "looked". I asked you a total of three times if there was a way to look into your system and let me know the closest location that would have them in stock. And THREE times you came up with bullsh*t excuses of why you would be the ONLY location with water sports. You said that it's fall now and NO location would have them. Then you gave me a bullsh*t response that San Diego is year round water sports so good luck finding one. In fact before looking into your system to find a Dicks location you suggested I go to a competitor. Well I called the next closest location in El Cajon. And guess what..... they have FIVE! AND in TWO colors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You spent more time pissing me off and making excuses not to do your job then it would to just look. Work on your resume this week buddy! read more

Came in here looking for women's workout clothes. My assumption is the Calia line, Lucy, etc is an attempt to compete with specially stores like lulu or athleta. To do that, you've to offer a certain level of service. Could not find anyone to help in the middle of the day, then when I asked for a crew neck workout shirt, woman that had been tracked down showed me a v neck, said "most people don't care what they are wearing when they work out" and ... That was it. Okkkay. Got it. Ladies ... Go to athleta, Lucy, Lorna Jane, road runner... Pretty much anywhere else if you are looking for any type of recommendation. Oct 17 update ... this store! Employees walk right by you look you in the eye and never offer help. It is impossible to get a dressing room and if you go up to the front to ask, they just look at you and say we didn't hear it. If you walk around the store at any time, it is impossible to find anyone to help you. All the employees congregate who knows where but it's not on the floor helping customers. read more

Very corporate America, we came in to purchase a baseball bat in the range of $200 - $350 for our son. Being such a large company we assumed that they would have knowledgeable staff for the type of bat we were looking for in the investment we are making but unfortunately we were wrong. Not only did none of the sales people have more than basic minimal knowledge of an advanced bat like that but the bats were locked up and had waited security devices on them we were not able to handle the bat he was not able to swing the bat and they sold them only based on price and Aesthetics alone. It was unbelievable, we finally did find a Salesman named Brian who was very nice and very apologetic and he understood that the situation was a little silly but unfortunately we were forced to go to a smaller store where they had more knowledge of the bat and more importantly our son was able to hold the bat swing the bat. read more

I came in a few weeks ago and had to use the ladies room. There was no soap.. Good thing I had some sanitizer in my purse. I let one of the female ladies that worked here know. She said she would take care of it ASAP. Well I'm here again and STILL no soap. There are 4 stalls and 3 of them were disgustingly used and not flushed. I almost gagged!! When I get there they told me I should've called first and the one guy who was able to give me the shotgun I had purchased wasn't there. No where on my paperwork was I told to call first to see if they could give me my new gun. No where did it list times when the gun counter was able to complete my transaction and give me what I had paid for. The manager then made it sound like my fault they wasted my time. Went in this evening to by soccer cleats for my daughter. We looked around to find the women's cleats section but couldn't find them until we asked. There were four women's cleats mixed in with the youth cleats, but a whole side of men's cleats. The person that helped us tried to find us a pair to fit, but no luck. My daughter indicated the other girls on her sports teams have told her Dick's doesn't carry very many women's cleats. Not sure why. Also my son asked about getting a sponsorship (any small donation would do) for a project to refurbish goals for one of the local schools. We were told to talk to corporate. Go to your local sporting good store. We are headed to soccer loco for soccer cleats and will avoid Dick's in the future. read more

I went there to get some gloves for Big Bear so I took off my Nixon watch and accidentally left it there. I realized it later that night and they said they had it and they will keep it in the safe and I can come pick it up. Went back a few weeks later to get it and all of the sudden they don't have it? Really? Then the manager tries blowing me off and passing it on to his workers and asking exactly when I called and blah blah blah. He said either he would give me a discount on something in their store (kiss my a** and please don't patronize me). I managed to snag a ticket to Coachella but could only find room camping so I needed a tent really bad. I remembered seeing a bunch of tents at Dicks so I decided to see what kind they hard at their point loma location. I didn't know jack squat about camping or tents so I asked for some help. Brian was more than happy to help me pick out the perfect tent. Since I was only going to be using it a few times he found one for me that was cheap, but would still get the job done. He also helped me pick out some other items he said I would need like a lantern and camping shower. I just got back from Coachella and the tent worked out perfectly. I couldn't have been more happy! dick's sporting goods i bought a mac wagon for the beach to pull my 40lb lame dog. on the front of the box it shows the wagon on the beach , it also says all terrain sports wagon. i was not able to pull the wagon across the sand i had to literally drag it because the front wheels would not turn in the sand! they would not take it back! i spoke with the manager and he said there is nothing wrong with the wagon . so much for customer service. i will never ever ever shop there again. it cost me $120.00 for nothing! read more

So unsatisfied with my experience here. "Susana" was such a rude cashier. I had noticed the shoes I was about to purchase had been worn on the bottom, they were dirty. So I simply asked her if they applied a discount for shoes that had been worn and returned. She looked at my boyfriend and I in disgust and said, "we don't accept worn shoes for return" so we showed her the bottom of the shoes and all she said was "THE RUG." as quietly as possible. We said excuse me? And she shouted "THE RUG!!" As in their rug was so dirty in the shoe department that it had somehow worn down the shoes and made them dirty... Okay. She was extremely rude and impatient. Makes me never want to shop at this location again. Management should definitely have a talk with this person. read more

I came here to look at new running shoes since I was having pain from my old ones. I didn't expect to receive a super professional and educational evaluation of my feet and running form. Opie is awesome! Super cool guy and very smart. He literally grabbed my smelly foot and evaluated my foot as well as my posture. Coming into a Dick's Sporting Goods I was quite impressed with the nice layout of the store compared to a Big 5. That's pretty much where the quality experience ends. I was in the market to purchase a smoker for Father's Day and noticed a sale. I had one employee come up who was helpful at first but then said he had 2 other customers to deal with. That was okay. I went to the cashier to purchase the item but first had to check in stock. Cue in the manager of the store-Dylan who took an excessive amount of time to check and informed me they were out of stock. I asked about the El Cajon location which then took him about 15 min to call the other store which I was informed they were also out. Being a nice person I asked ok, let's either do an in-store transfer or I can pay ahead of time and receive it later. This guy-Dylan who clearly had checked out as it was closing time in about 30 min let me know that it was going to be a big deal and he didn't want to deal with it. He attempted to talk me out of the sale and said I could buy the online price (and lose $100 in savings which makes me question if he even got out of high school with the stupidity of that suggestion). Pretty much lost the store the sale of a big ticket item. I told him he had a one-star review coming and at that point he threatened me saying "Don't come back we will make sure of it!". To Dick's corporate, I've been in retail and this kind of customer service should never exist anywhere. read more

Rather horrendous customer service. I had called over the phone for an item and was told it was in stock. I drive down and the entire team has no idea what it is or cares to see if it is in stock in the back even after showing photos, since I went on my own throughout the entire store aisle by aisle to find it. I tell a couple employees I would not have driven down if the person on the phone had not told me it was in the store, which spurred some half-hearted apologies. I visited the store to return 2 Adidas climate shirts. After wearing the shirt, I did not like the fit. I didn't want to return the shirt dirty after wearing all day, so I washed it. When I returned back to the store with both shirts and receipt. The shirt I wore, I did not have tags, but other shirt did and attached. I had selected other merchandise plus more than my return amount. I approached associate Christopher and he told me he could not return the shirt because it is not resalable and Adidas will not take it back. Are you surious! Where is the customer service? Is Dick's more worried about the bottom line profit than making a customer happy. Big retailers have the upper hand with clothing manufacturers! What a joke! my last 3 visits it was impossible to find someone to help me locate an item. I went from the front counter to camping to guns to shoes and to bikes and not a single employee anywhere. This is an easy fix for management. 2 stars because I look at an item online and call store and they said it is in Stock so I drive over at 4 dollars a gallon for gas and they don't have the item in stock. I drive farther now for sports chalet, rei or big 5. Not impressed at all with this store. Let me know when you change management or staff and I'll visit again. read more

Went in looking for snowboarding gear and to my surprise they only had a tiny area for basic gear. No snowboards/skiis, helmets, goggles,or basic equipment. When I asked the person at the counter why they didn't cary much winter sport related items, I got a smart ass response: "well sir, we would but we're not near any mountains". My response: "well, we're nowhere near hunting grounds but you have isles of hunting equipment, gear, and a massive display of guns/rifles!" Just surprised that a massive chain like Dicks does not cater to to winter sports. Makes me really miss Sports Authority! I guess from now on REI is where I'm doing all my shopping. Would come back to Dicks for other sporting gear but not when their employees act like total dicks...pun intended! read more

I really miss Sports Chalet. This store is understaffed and rarely has the sporting items I need in the store. For a store in San Diego, they should always stock items for people who swim. My kids are on the swim team and it's a year round sport. As it is, they have one small section for swim gear in the summer that shrinks considerably for the rest of the year. I just stopped in to pick up some uneven bar grips for my gymnast and was told they don't carry anything for gymnastics in the store. If all you need are cleats or yoga pants, this is the place for you. Beyond that, it isn't much of a sporting goods store. read more

This review is strictly of my experience in the golf shop with Kevin. Dick ' s has a PGA Golf Pro in staff at all their stores who is capable of fitting you individually for your clubs based on his observations and experience and based on the data provided by your swing through the indoor driving range style machine they have. It was great to learn more about my swing through him and have him prove through this process things my golf pro was telling me during my lessons were not necessarily true like the fact I needed 1 inch over on my clubs or that I should be golfing with stiff clubs (my pro had recommended these settings but was shown otherwise) which I'm glad he did because I did notice the difference in the clubs and their performance, specially good to know things like that the stiff clubs are made for golfers that can generate a swing of more than 80mphs with the irons which I clearly was not reaching. Kevin was great in also informing me of the different brands and models of each club I had intended to try (I'm literally a few weeks into this golf thing so it is very intimidating trying to get into the purchasing process without some help). He let me swing the various sets ups and assisted with hints on how to swing each clubs to maximize it's features, we tried irons, wedges and drivers for almost two hours, all the meanwhile Kevin never seemed irritated with my questions or suggestions to try other clubs, you'd figure with the workload of all the other shoppers coming to the department and after two hours with me he'd get annoyed, not even a slight hint of it. That's when you know someone truly loves what they do, good for Dick's for finding Kevin, he made my day and my experience very memorable, I'll definitely be completing my entire set there and building my collection in the future. On a side note, I have had pretty good experience also shopping their Nike pro combat and Under Armour compression clothing there, I would buy more but Amazon usually has them slightly more competitive and they don't price match online retailers. Its pricey so it does help to know ahead of time what you're looking for so you can go in and get info and get out and make your purchase elsewhere for a better price. read more

Came here with my son who plays foot ball, baseball and basketball. We were amazed seeing all the sporting goods and accessories. Dick's is huge, colorful, organized, fresh modern marketing is flowing on the walls and hanging from the ceiling. They have about everything you can imagine for your sporting needs. The apparel is well picked and they have a discount section if you're on a budget and a rewards program for return customers. Very pleased with this venue. Also, the associates there are very helpful and kind. If you're a sports buff or trying to be this is a spot you need to check out if you already haven't! read more

I badly needed a pair of running shoes. The lady by the entrance directed me to the back where Veronica, the running shoe angel awaited. She helped me find some great shoes in my price range, that were better for my fat feet. Then she smiled and recommended a special socks with a little cushion on the back. Let me just say that Roger the Manager is one amazing person! He is very knowledgeable and took time to make sure we found exactly what we needed for my daughters softball season! Definitely made my daughters day! He also took the time to call another store and see if they had the item we needed since they were sold out. I definitely had a positive experience and will surely keep coming back to buy all my sport needs! Mason the cashier did a great job and was very polite and helpful too!
