We heard glowing things about this pizza place so we decided to finally give it a try. We ordered one of our favourite pizzas a donair pizza. The toppings were fresh but maybe because we ordered delivery it just didn't have the as much pizazz as I expected. It was still a tasty pizza. For the kids we ordered the cheese pizza. The combination of orange and white cheese was nice, and it was very saucy. The slices were too big for my littles who had to fold the pizza to eat it. And once it got to us that chewy textured dough has just too difficult for them to chew. The beingets were delightful, same chewy texture. Liked the icing and Carmel to dip. I think this pizza place would have been more enjoyable eating at the location and getting the pizza hot and fresh. read more

Did you know that Edmonton has a vegan pizzeria? Did you also know that it's Alberta's first plant-based pizzeria that has been blazing trails since 2017? They've been on quite a turbulent journey to say the least. Die Pie first opened their doors downtown on Jasper Ave in 2017. Then the pandemic hit and threw everything into question and they ended up moving to 97th in the Boyle Street area in 2020. Then, sadly, later in 2020 they announced that Die Pie would be closing it's doors for good. It seemed that everything had come to an unfortunate and heart breaking end. But there was some hope when the pizzas became available at their sister business Seitans in the 5th Street Food Hall in 2021. ...And then in 2023, rising from the ashes, Die Pie opened once again, this time on 105th Street in Queen Mary Park. Nothing short of a roller coaster, I'm not sure how they've done it. However, their legion of devoted fans certainly wants their plant-based pizza revolution to continue. VUE Weekly named Die Pie # 1 Pizza (Classic) 2018 and # 1 Best Pizza (Thin Crust) 2018. Yes, the pizza is meatless but this is a place that can compete with all of the rest. You need to try it for yourself to believe it! I was so pleased to visit for the first time on a Saturday evening and I would totally describe the restaurant and location as "industrial-chic." They've got plenty of space with a fun tropical vibe from the pink-sided bar area to the pink-and-green frond print on the chairs. The best decor item of all, without a question, is the huge original Jasper Ave restaurant sign that now hangs inside. What a testament to their resiliency. There's a little stage area that must be great for live music and other such performances. Speaking of music, the tunes at Die Pie are absolute perfection and I found myself dancing and singing in my seat for the majority of my visit - we must have very similar taste in music. Our server was helpful and friendly, happy to give us the time that we needed to make our way through the extensive menu. There's quite a lot more than just pizza! I'm not much of a pop-drinker but I do enjoy a soda with pizza from time to time. I really like that Die Pie doesn't serve the mainstream brands and instead opts for Jarritos (which I love), Wild Brewing Kombucha, and Phillips Soda Works from Victoria. We chose a Speed King Craft Cola ($5.00) and an Intergalactic Root Beer ($5.00), both from Phillips. The art on the can alone is worth it. I really like a craft cola made with cane sugar a lot. You've probably heard people talk about Mexican cola and how it's a far superior product - and the cane sugar is why. Using cane sugar makes the flavour so much better. Speed King is made with actual kola nut as well as cane sugar, has a rich flavour, and somehow isn't too sweet. The Intergalactic was interesting because it actually tasted like real root beer. The amber colour is not typically expected and the flavour of licorice root, cloves, and cane sugar creates a beverage that tastes much more authentic. They both paired wonderfully with the pizza. The food menu involves a lot! You'll find a whole host of starters, fried chickun (which I believe is Seitans main thing, now available at Die Pie), pasta, and burgers. And of course there is pizza. A lot of pizza. I was excited to start my meal with some Bites (there are four types) which I remember very well from my 5th Street Food Hall visits. This time I chose the Kimchi Bites (Sourdough bites stuffed with chedda, extra virgin olive oil, sunflower parmesan, and housemade kimchi - $16.00) because they sound so unique. However, the chedda, donair, and pickle versions are excellent options as well. These little tender and twirly dough balls are served with two dips of your choice and they've got twelve to select from! Gochujang Dip seemed like an obvious pick and we also got Garlic Aioli Dip for a more cooling option. If you love Die Pie's soft and fluffy pizza dough (and you do) this is just another way to get more of it. Pungent, acidic kimchi is wrapped within the dough like a soft blanket. These bites had some spicy kick! Dip them in the gochujang for an even bigger punch! These are fun and easy to eat. However, if you're also ordering pizza it does mean that your meal will contain a lot of dough (which is not necessarily a bad thing). The main event is absolutely the California style pizza and with 18 different pies you certainly won't be wanting for choice. Each one is made from scratch using their signature hand-tossed sourdough crust which they make with local flour. And let me tell you: IT'S THE CRUST. I'm the type of person who doesn't always eat my crust - in most cases I have no desire to eat additional plain, tough bread. But once in a while there's the odd case when the dough itself is something special. Die Pie makes a dough so pillowy that you will find it in your dreams. But that's not all. Decided to come here since they have moved into thier new digs. It was a beauiful day and we sat out on the patio. Nice ambiance and a great patio. Inside is interesteding too. What I don't like is that you have to go up and order. Which I forgot about and so I was wondering why no one was coming outside. These types of restauarants baffle me. If you are are already coming around to fill up water, check on food etc. how much more effort would it be to hand out the menus and take the order? I went with a friend who had the Kale salad while I went with Korean Hawaiian. It was fantastic. Crust was nice and chewy and housemade kimchi gave it a kick. Wow what difference. Die pie is a must for all vegans. They moved to a bigger and nicer location. They have changed their ordering where you order and pay at the front and have it taken to your table. The pizza bites were delicious and the dips that comes with them were so tasty. The spinach dip was extraordinary, I love when a dip is centered on the creaminess but rather the spinach. The black garlic truffle pizza was amazing so tasty and unique. The pierogi pizza was good just not as good as the other pizza. Overall the dinner was delicious, service was great and ambiance was very chill. I would have to say, this is possibly my favorite place to eat at, in the city of Edmonton! The food here is unique and delicious! It is all vegan food, but if you are meat eater, you may not be able to tell that the "meat" they offer on the menu is all plant based. The textures and flavors are perfected! There are many gluten free options on the menu. The service is super friendly and kind. The patio is spacious and somewhat surprisingly quiet for being so close to downtown. The restaurant, and washrooms, are kept clean! I have been to the old Die Pie that use to be on Jasper, and it was good; but the new Die Pie is a nicer location... and did Iention the food is really great!? ... because it really is! There are tons of vegan options from appetizers to desserts. You have to place your own orders up at the till but food is brought to your table. No big deal for us. I'm not a vegan. I tried it for one year and I couldn't keep up my hemoglobin. However, I like eating at vegan restaurants. The dishes are very inventive, fresh and beautifully presented. My friend invited me to go for a 4-20 burger. One day of the year, this feature burger eclipses all others. It is a deliciously seasoned burger made of unknowns, and a slight whiskey taste? The texture was fabulous. The bun was a doughnut from "Party Doughnuts". Lots of nice fixings and a pickle spear that came later because the chef forgot. Nom! A bowl of potato chips served on the side. We devoured those burgers and left no survivors. $20.00 for this bad boy. We didn't have any of the beverages as we were satisfied with water. Die Pie has been getting a lot of hype as Alberta's first plant based pizzeria. They're located right beside An Chay and across the street from Soy & Pepper. We both agreed DP's outdoor sign was well thought out. The style reminded me a bit of Cleaver (in Calgary). We dropped in for a quick, light meal Wednesday after work to see what all the hype was about. The inside has a nice modern flare. Menu is up along one wall while a mural of mountains/skyline up on the other. - Kale caesar ($12.00) - for $12.00, you'd expect a full size portion. Not here. The portion is incredulously small. It would be bearable if it was half the price. CC said it needed more acidity and had to request a lemon wedge. - Pulled pork (jackfruit) ($18.00) - the pizza was decent but I thought the jackfruit was reminiscent of eating pulled pork. The cashew mozzarella also had a pleasant texture. Sadly, you barely get any of both. I'm not even exaggerating. The lack of toppings was highly disappointing. Why so little jackfruit and cashew mozzarella Die Pie? We get it, it's expensive, but when you barely get any ingredients, that's a major concern... Can't see us coming back anytime soon. This is my first time every trying Die Pie, which is so weird because I'm a vegetarian! I don't know why, but I just have never gotten around to it until now! I'm happy I did though because it was pretty delicious! I tried two different pizzas, the margarita and the pierogi! The Margarita was really delicious. I believe this is made with in-house cashew mozzarella and it was so good! I couldn't believe that it was vegan it was that good! The pierogi pizza was also good, but it was lacking in sauce and felt a bit dry to me. I would say out of the two pizzas, the margarita was my favourite. They do that good Neapolitan style thin crust, which I absolutely LOVE! So I was having a good time! I also love that this place is so accommodating to everyone! I can't believe it has taken me this long to review Die Pie! I've been coming here for pizza ever since they first opened at their previous location and they've made huge improvements since then. Everything is plant-based but this is still the kind of restaurant I could comfortably bring a meat eater to. They have a great variety of pizza flavours that are a bit out there without being too weird. My personal favourite is the Big Mack but I also get cravings for their Buffalo Chickun. Yum! Not in the mood for pizza? No problem! They have a great selection of pastas, salads, wings and burgers. They recently brought in the infamous Impossible Burger which I recently had with their mushroom melt. It costs an extra $3.50 which was worth a try but honestly, I really like Die Pie's original patty better so I'll probably go with that next time (but omg the mushroom melt is amazing)! While I'm sad they had to close their Peche Cafe location due to the pandemic, I'm glad they were able to move Die Pie into the space and integrate the menus. I don't know what I'd do without them! They've even added their own delivery service so you can skip the apps and make sure all of your money goes directly to the business. read more

Gotta say, this place surpassed my expectations. I'm not vegan. I basically eat anything... and pizza is my kryptonite. It destroys any kind of diet or healthy eating craze I try because I just canny resist it, ok! Die Pie has been on my Yelp bookmark list of places to try since it opened two months ago. Today, I met a vegan friend for lunch so it was the clear choice. It was surprisingly quiet but that was good because we got all the servers attentions and she knew her stuff. She explained that the full menu is vegan, so even though the menu says cheese and meat items they are all made from soy or nuts. Huzzah! My vegan dining partner was so excited and found my choice of restaurant very thoughtful. This place has a cool logo btw and the piles of pizza boxes stacked looks really awesome. The whole place is well designed with the forest mural along one wall, the fixtures are all made of natural wood and there are plants everywhere. I'm not as into the little ones but the big hanging plants look fab. They should just put cute tea lights along to replace the smaller plants. So what did we order? First off they had a special called Habareno Hell which came topped with cucumbers, tomatoes, olive tapenade, feta and basil. We ordered that straight away and we also ordered the pulled pork pizza. We were advised that lunch orders come with a small bowl of soup. Today's soup was potato and leek and it was so smooth and creamy and garnished with dill which gave it a lovely aftertaste. That was a great start. The pizzas arrived and I was expecting Habareno Hell to destroy me but it wasn't that spicy. It was a slow burning but maybe the cucumbers just counteracted it. I would like to see that come with a side of hot sauce for those who like to feel the burn. Despite this, Habareno Hell was my fave pizza and I tried three. The Pulled Pork pizza was really nice, the cheese was more mozzarella style and it tasted really nice for fake cheese. The pulled pork was nice, the only giveaway that it wasn't really pork was the texture. The pizza base on both were crispy, with just the right amount of chew. We were so impressed, I bought a pizza to go to take to my friend who is lactose intolerant. We reheated the Buffalo Chicken pizza on a pizza stone to keep that crisp base and avoid it getting a soggybottom. And friends.. it worked! Now this pizza was much spicier than the Habareno Hell btw. I popped over for lunch with a crowd of about 8 people, initially we were told the wait may be half an hour which is basically our lunch hour, so a couple people left. However, the head chef came out to greet us & we were able to get immediate seating at their bar. It's a small venue, and better suited for intimate lunches. I do like the decor though, simple with a rustic feel. They did have a highchair available if you gave a little one, but I didn't see a change table in the washroom...the washroom uses hand towels too, similar to hotels or upscale restaurants. Service is friendly & quick. It was good to hear the head chef talk about their food so it helped me to mentally justify the price. I personally have no issues with dairy or meat, but if you are a vegan, this place would totally be up your alley. Plus hearing him say that a standard Pizza Hut pizza serving is like 2000 cal compared to their clean pizza at about 500 cal, makes you feel less guilt for eating pizza for lunch. Size wise, it's like a personal individual pizza. Their dairy free cheese was good, in fact it made the food pretty comparable in taste to a regular Neapolitan pizza. I'd highly recommend the "pulled pork" pizza. Yes it says jackfruit, but don't be fooled. It tastes nothing like jackfruit and of the 3 pizzas I tried, that one had the best flavour punch. On this day the weather was my favorite, crisp autumn air with all the trees on 112 Street a golden yellow. I've been exicted about trying this place out for a week. Today was my opportunity. I walked over from my previous appointment. As I waited for my light to turn I took in the rusty Die Pie sign with a knife between the two words. It's in the old UPS store on Jasper. They seated me as soon as I arrived. At 1:30pm on a Sunday they had two wait staff and three kitchen. The waitress asked if I had eaten at Die Pie before. She went over the menu and explained the cashew cheese they make in house. The venue was small but made good use of it's space. It could seat around 30 to 40 people I'd guess. The tables were made out of 16 wooden 2x2's glued together and cut to make a unique and beautiful table top. The menus are small clip boards with think card stock for each category. It's simple and easy to change without a lot of cost or waste. They had a selection of 2 choices of each type of wine; Sparkling, Rose, White and Red. They kept the menu options to a reasonable amount of 1 to 4 items per category: insalate (salads), formaggie (vegan cheese), pizza, pasta, dolci (sweets). They also offer coffee, beers, wine and a special in house kombucha. Root Beer Kombucha was what was on tap this day. I ordered the Pulled "Pork" Jackfruit Pizza. It came with a savoury ginger, carrot, yam soup with drizzled cashew dill cream. It was mildly sweet with so much rich flavour. I also ordered the Jean Paul Brun Cote De Brouilly red wine. It was a sweeter red with a strong rich taste. The pizza was made with a light dough, crispy on the outside and nice and chewy on the inside. The Chipotle aioli was brushed on lightly and gave everything a mild spicy flavour. The jackfruit with fresh pea shoots and shredded cabbage brought it all together with the warm and gooey cashew mozzarella. It was easy to fold a slice and enjoy each bite. The staff informed me that they would be doing brunch starting this Sunday Oct 1 from 11am to 2pm. It's first come, first serve. I will check it out later this month. I enjoyed the view of Jasper avenue on this perfect autumn day and experienced something new and wonderful. I will be back, maybe for brunch or another me date. read more

It's no secret that cheese and I don't get along well. I don't like it's flavour, texture, or smell, and quite frankly, it doesn't sit with me very well. Enter Die Pie. Or, should I say, I entered Die Pie. I was a bit hesitant because i figured if I don't really like real cheese, would I like a vegan substitute any more? I sat down at one of the wooden tables and ordered a margherita, the most basic 10-inch pizza which uses cashew as a cheese substitute (hemp is available for those with nut allergies, as is a gluten-free crust). The pizza was amazing. The creamy dollops of "cheese" had a very mellow flavour, the thick sauce accounting for most of the pizza's flavour as well as the freshness of the basil. It was like bruschetta, but enhanced. I'll definitely be back to try another pizza. read more

My vegetarian friend recommended this restaurant to me! It's a bit hard to find because the sign isn't very bright and it's tucked in (its right beside Aurora Yoga and across the street from 7 Eleven in Jasper Ave). Right when I walked in, the ambience made me instantly relax. It had a very earthy-chill vibe. The server was awesome, he was super informative about the whole menu and accommodating to my coconut allergy. We had limited choices for the pizzas because of my allergy but he gave us the option to have the BBQ Pizza without the coconut-based cheese. We ordered that along with the Kale Caesar Salad. The Quick and Dirty on the food: the Kale Caesar Salad was just meh, nothing special, barely any dressing (it was a Caesar vinaigrette), it wasn't worth the price. The BBQ Pizza on the other hand was AMAZING! The sauce wasn't your typical bbq sauce, it had a unique touch, it tasted rich and it was packed with flavour. The crust was thin and crispy. So when you think of pizza, you wouldn't normally think light. Especially not mac 'n' cheese pizza, but guess what? This vegan eatery features some of the lightest/most refreshing pizza and salad. We were intrigued by the concept of a vegan pizzeria and the name "Die Pie" with a clever in the middle of it. Not sure how the name fits other than pie = pizza but we were open and we were pleasantly surprised. Rodney was our server and he was very pleasant and checked on us regularly. He also explained the menu well and gave some suggestions. In addition to pizzas, they also serve salads, appetizers and some pasta dishes. For drinks they have wine and carry some craft beers. We ordered the Beet Salad to start. This salad was delicious with it's candied beets, basil and sour cream. The candied walnuts were a lovely touch that finished the salad off. Next I had the Margherita Pizza with cashew cheese, tomato and basil. The cashew cheese was great! You can barely tell it isn't real cheese. The pizza had a lot of flavour and it was filling. My brother had the Lobster Pene and it was ok. It didn't have as much flavour as the pizza and my brother really didn't care too much for the cashew cheese in it. It came with a side of the quinoa salad and that was fresh and tasty. All in all it is a quaint place serving some good vegan food. Went here with my lovely vegan friend. I'm not a vegan,but man can I appreciate the delicious food here. We shared the tomato bisque soup along with a burger and the buffalo chicken pizza. I was amazed at how delicious the cheese was as I was afraid it wouldn't be as satisfying as I am a cheese lover. The didn't miss the meat in the hamburger or the buffalo chicken pizza. It's pretty pricy but I guess you pay for what you get for and I feel it was definitely worth it. I also had a peach kombucha which was beyond tasty and I highly suggest if your a kombucha lover like me. Great place to go with your vegan friends or even just to check out. Even though we don't normally eat vegan or vegetarian diets, we decided to check this place out as I'm always curious to try new pizza places, especially if they have gluten free options as my partner cannot have gluten. We started with the Spinach and Artichoke Dip with gluten free bread on the side and were very impressed! The flavours in the dip were fabulous, very creamy and garlicky, the non gluten free bread was AMAZING, it made me excited for the pizza! My partner also said his gluten free toast was great, crisp and well seasoned. Then we both ordered pizzas. I got the Zuccine Carpaccio special (zucchini, red onion, garlic/rosemary sauce, feta, chives, sunflower parmesan and I added artichoke to mine) and my partner got the Buffalo Chicken pizza on gluten free crust. The gluten free crust was quite good as I also tried it, I think it's my favourite gluten-free crust that I've tried! For dessert we ordered the London Fog Creme Brûlée, we didn't really taste the London Fog taste but it was still very good, and the gingerbread (gluten free!) was a highlight. I have a new favourite vegan restaurant here in Edmonton!! Yes you heard me it's better than Padmanadi, Arcadia, Cafe Mosaics, and The Clever Rabbit. I know that statement might ruffle a few feathers but I stand by this. The food and cocktails at Die Pie are excellent. My GF has been a couple of times and we dined at Die Pie last night. We shared the beet salad and a couple of pizzas, Macaroni and Buffalo Chicken. Cocktails that you must try Whiskey Ginger Sour, French 75 and my fav Corpse Reviver #2. For some odd reason though every time I order a drink it always comes in this little stemmed cocktail glass. Kinda a running joke between my GF and I. I always order the the drink that looks to be the girly drink between the two of us. No offence to the ladies just kinda funny the dainty glass I always get. Anyways Die Pie is worth more than a try, head down meet the staff and enjoy a fabulous meal. read more

I'll start off by stating, I'm no vegan, far from it in fact, I eat it all and my palate is, lets say "experienced". My overall experiences with vegan fare have been pretty disappointing to say the least. When it comes to Die Pie throw all your preconceived notions about vegan food away because Die Pie is fantastic. Service is always attentive, spot on and friendly. We have yet to make it in to try their apparently stellar lunchtime burger, but we have sampled their salads, pasta and pizzas and a few cocktails too, in fact everything but. Like I said, fantastic. Wonderful vegan pizza restaurant! I'm not even vegan but really enjoyed the food here! The place has a great atmosphere and was quite busy so we sat at the bar. We had the cheddar bites, kale ceaser, and buffalo chicken pizza. Everything is entirely vegan but the cheese and chicken tastes almost just like real meat and cheese (maybe even better!). I went last Saturday night for my birthday dinner and haven't had a meal that delicious in Edmonton before! The service was attentive and the food came out in a timely manner. Started with the cheese platter and please, for the love of anything holy - ORDER THE CHEESE PLATE!! Every combination of cheese and sweet or just the cheese on its own was unique and an explosion of flavour on the palate - mouth-gasm with every bite! Had the mac and cheese pizza which was a lovely flavour, but the feature buffalo chicken pizza (with dill!!) was a showstopper!! I was speechless many times through the meal because the food was so great! It wasn't cheap but it was worth every penny and I will be back again soon and often! read more

When I heard about a vegan pizzeria opening up on Jasper, I couldn't wait to try it out. I'm a firm believer that pizza should be its own mandatory food group and that each and every unique spin on pizza is always worth trying. Edmonton's veg*n food establishments are already fantastic across the board and Die Pie is a nice addition to a flourishing plant-based eatery scene. Die Pie's pizza menu is relatively small but has innovative flavours and ingredients that stray away from simulating "regular" pizzas as the restaurant fully embraces the unique combinations, flavours, and possibilites of vegan food. The "pulled pork" jackfruit pizza and black garlic and truffle pizza are perfect examples of this- utilizing different ingredients and flavours that are distincly vegan rather than simply trying to simulate meaty pizzas. While this ambitious and innovative menu impressed me, I was slightly less enthusiastic on the execution. The pizza's crust was slightly underwhelming, lacking the chewiness and flavour that defines a great pie. The jackfruit pulled pork was good but the pizza was slathered in more sauce than actual topping. The pizzas were relatively small for their price as well. Thankfully I was fortunate enough to try their seasonal thanksgiving pizza which had some amazing gravy-cooked soy curls and also got to try one of the better vegan caesars I've ever had. The drink menu is quite robust and their use of dashi in the caesar is a great way to simulate the fishy flavour of clamato. Overall the food and drinks were good but left me wanting more toppings and a chewier, more flavourful crust on the pies. The atmosphere of Die Pie was nice but a little disjointed, blending aspects of a brewery-like industrial space with more rustic aspects of fake plants, a painted mural, and wooden tabletops. Much like the menu, I admire the ambition but was lukewarm on the execution of the space itself. Die Pie is a great addition to Edmonton's veg*n food scene and I think it's right on the cusp of greatness (really this should be a 3.5 star rating) but it may take a little while longer for Die Pie to displace some of Edmonton's other great establishments in my list of favourite veggie restaurants. I'll be back again for sure and hope that as the business continues to grow it will continue to find ways to innovate and impress. read more
