This is, by far, the best spot I've been to for Mexican food. I've even driven 15 mins from the border to try and find the best Cali burrito and I can't believe the best one I've had is in La Jolla but I'm so glad it is. They ACTUALLY make the fries crispy!! Also, the mixed meat torta (it has asada and adobada) is definitely the best torta i've had and packs a punch in flavor. Definitely also get the chipotle crema and put in on EVERYTHING. The people working the restaurant are also super nice and welcoming! The lady working the front was so friendly and hooked it up with the salsas. 10/10 would highly recommend!

Stopped by for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. The tacos and burritos were both delicious, full of flavor, and made with generous portions. The prices are very reasonable. The only downside is that it's a pretty small restaurant, so seating is limited. If you don't mind a cozy space or grabbing your food to go, it's definitely worth checking out. I'll be back to try more of the menu.

The menu is extremely limited, so make sure you want one of the things they offer before you go! With that being said, my fiancee and I came here after seeing the Taco Fiends review. We really wanted to try the torta and I was hoping to get some beans (which they didn't have so that was my fault). We got parking right in front and got some seats! There is a long bar out front with some stools, which is all of their seating. This is more of a grab and go taco stand that a restaurant, so also keep that in mind! We ordered a taco, mixed torta, and a California burrito. The staff were also super nice and the woman at the register was amazing! Super helpful and very kind. Cannot say enough nice things. We got our food and immediately noticed the size was hefty and it smelled delicious. My California burrito was so juicy and tender with so much flavor packed into the carne asada, I was in heaven. That cooked over charcoal fresh taste. The torta was also delicious and the adobada was so tender and flavorful. I think it is probably the best California burrito I have had in a long long time. My only complaint is the limited menu, but that's a personal preference. I also wasn't a huge fan of the red salsa, but the foods so good it really doesn't need it! So no loss. Will be back here to try a few more things on the menu or anytime I have a burrito hankering after the beach! Really enjoyed!

Diego's Street Tacos has set up shop in the North PB neighborhood right next door to another taqueria that specializes in seafood. Because this place offers meat as the protein, the two businesses don't have overlapping menus. Inside seating was limited to a countertop with several stools. A shared railing served as a countertop outside the respective entrances of both spots. Parking was all curbside in this area which can be difficult to find an open space. The menu screen displayed two to four choices across the food categories of tacos, burritos, mulitas, vampiros, tortas, quesadillas, and fries. What caught my eye was the Cali Taco. This is the first taqueria I have encountered in the SD area that served such an item. It's basically the ingredients of a Cali Burrito but placed inside a corn tortilla. I purchased that along with an Adobada Taco, an Asada Taco, and a Horchata Agua Fresca. The meats in all three tacos were pretty juicy. The star was the Cali Taco which cost $5.95 compared to $3.50 each for the Adobada and Asada. French fries, sour cream, guacamole, and two types of shredded cheese completely covered up the carne asada base. It was like eating a mini version of the well-known local burrito yet not as filling which was fine because I needed room to consume the other two tacos. The agua fresca was okay as the taste was a bit watered down. I gave a 4.5 star rating for my visit to Diego's Street Tacos.

Listen, I haven't really gone out of my way to make Yelp reviews in a while, but this place I had to stop. Middle bite just to tell you guys how good the adobada is here. I don't know if the photos do it Justice, but just by the color. These were the best adobada tacos I've ever had in my Life. Literally just come. Oh, and can't forget the Lady working in. Front was so sweet. She even gave me a free, chipotle sauce.

YUM! Come prepared for a long wait for your food, but it's worth it. The adobada taco was delicious and the guac added a nice freshness, but the California Burrito was the star of the show. The carne asada was charred but still juicy and the fries inside kept their crisp which is so rare. Reasonable prices too.

Phenomenal. This is as good as tj and honestly the best mulita I have ever had. Incredible. If they opened at 11 I'm here twice a week every week. Not even a question

I was not a fan, neither me or my husband could finish our food and he eats anything! The flavor of the meat wasn't good! The service was amazing so if you want good conversation its a great place to go just bring food from the Taco stand i stead.

I've tried many places for mexican food in San Diego. This is my go to spot. Tacos are amazing. Highly recommend the california tacos. Their fries are always hot and crispy. Definitely recommend. Friend also said the place was one of the best. Service was nice and seating area was quiet. Will definitely be the spot to take my friends to. Shout out to the workers in the kitchen and Liliana in the front for working hard everyday!!!

We got a mixed torta and the carne asada vampiro. They were very generous with the portions considering the price. The torta was definitely the star of the show. I would make sure to check out the wait time sign by the cashier before ordering.

I stopped by here one evening and was happy to see they're open until 10 PM, which is always a plus. You order at the counter, and my food came out within just a few minutes. The tacos are very reasonably priced at around $3.50 each. Mine was loaded with protein and topped with a really tasty avocado sauce. It was good overall, though it could've used some seasoning. What really stood out was the staff. Everyone was so sweet and welcoming, and I genuinely enjoyed chatting with them. The service felt friendly and relaxed, not rushed. They also have seating options, with indoor tables and a small outdoor area with stools if you want to sit and eat. Overall, a solid stop with quick service, friendly staff, and great hours. I'd definitely come back.

Wooooow! That was my 1st thought as I bit into the adobada taco . I'm usually a carne taco girl but I decided to step out of my usual today and I am so glad I did . It was honestly the best taco I might have ever had . So much freaking flavor and the amount of meat they give you is great. They do not skimp on meats that's for sure . The guacamole they put on top has great flavor and is smooth, not chunky at all. I'm about to head there again today because I just can't stop thinking about that adobada taco . My daughter got the carne California burrito and she said it was the best one she's had . The fries were crispy and I loved that, some other places put in soggy fries and yuck, that's gross . Diego's did the damn thing . My wife got carne fries( small order) and she also loved every bite of it . I bet that adobada would be great in the fries . This place is legit , for all of your taco needs !!!!

Tacos are so good, decent service, seriously they load up your tacos, great service, workers are so nice!! With that photo, need I say more?

It's tight but it all makes sense once you've gone through it once. Walk in, read the signs of which meat you'd like to get, then stand in that line. Order what you want, then go to another meat line. You can either get your tacos to-go or eat in. Then, you make a U turn and stand in the pay line. Lol. Don't forget to pay for your drink if you're getting one. If you're eating in, go back toward the front door and turn left. Get your drink, then head on upstairs where there are lots of tables. If you get lost, there's a security guard to help direct you. Hahaha. Tacos were amazing!!!! They're all good. We had the adobada (or al pastor) on a rotating spit complete with a pineapple in the center. The asada was delicious. But our favorite, surprisingly, was the lengua. Tender and full of flavor.

If I remember correctly, there are three different lines: one for Adobada (pork), one for Carne Asada (beef), and one for all the other less popular meats like Cabeza (beef head), Lengua (beef tongue), etc. Usually, the lines for Asada and Adobada are really long. My favorite meat here is the Adobada, which kind of tastes like Hong Kong BBQ pork (Char Siu). Since the Adobada line is always so long, I usually just order the Adobada fries so I can bypass that line. You just need to go to the cashier, pay for the fries, and hand the receipt to the people all the way to the left of the Cabeza line. The taco lines work differently, you will need to pick up a tray, order the tacos, pick up the tacos, then pay for it after. I also like the Lengua and Cabeza tacos, so lucky for me, the line for those is usually short. Something I noticed this visit was that they removed all the outdoor seating, so we took all our food to go and ate at our hotel. They also have seating upstairs but its usually hot and muggy inside. They provide tiny Ziploc bags for you to pack the radishes and limes at the self-service station.

There were a couple of groups dining in and someone picking up a to-go order, but there was still plenty of seating available. The employee working the counter was friendly. They also serve alcohol, and during my visit drinks were 20% off. Options included Pacifico, Modelo, Blue Moon, hard seltzers, and a selection of canned craft beers. I ordered: * Mahi Mahi Taco: the fish tasted fresh, and I liked the crispy onions on top. There was quite a bit of sauce, which made it pretty messy to eat. While the fish was good, it felt like a very heavy taco overall. * Surf & Turf Taco: this was loaded with steak and topped with two flavorful shrimp. The shrimp had an amazing flavor, and this taco was much more enjoyable and balanced. Overall, the service was great, the prices were very reasonable, and the protein quality was excellent. My only critique is that the tacos felt a little overdone with toppings and sauces when the quality of the protein could easily stand on its own. Still, it's a solid spot for an affordable late-night bite. One thing to note: there are no restrooms available inside the restaurant.

Sometimes, there are nights when only tacos can fix me. It's no secret that San Diego has tacos in…read morespades and being so close to the border, you'd think that a quest to find the perfect taco would be as simple as rolling down to the nearest taqueria. Except, it's not quite that simple. Many beloved staples have gone downhill, while some newer spots that might boast things like a Michelin mention or multiple locations ranging from TJ to Vegas contain more hype and gristle than tender meat and substance. Enter Chula Tacos. Chula is, and always was, the type of place that makes you forget that you're not actually in Tijuana. While part of me misses their OG Market Street location, seeing them with brick-and-mortars feels hard-earned and well-deserved. This location on Palm in IB is relatively easy to access from the freeway, but parking can be tricky. You can safely assume that it will be busy and you will either have to be very lucky or be willing to find a spot on the street. Out of all the times I've been here, it's always been crowded enough that I've never been able to find a table inside, but I enjoy sitting out on the patio next to the ahumederos. The first thing that hits you walking through the door is how amazing everything smells. The queue to the cashier takes you near a window showing the kitchen where you can see the Chula Tacos team making fresh tortillas, slicing meat from the trompos, grilling up jalapenos, nopales, onions, labio, and tripa. For me, it's not so much a challenge to decide what I want, it's more a challenge to keep myself from ordering everything. My usual is four tacos: two asada, two al pastor (but I've heard that I should also try their world famous keka). The tacos though? Perfection. Every time, the asada is the juiciest and most tender I've ever eaten, the al pastor is succulent and flavorful, and no taco in front of me is long for the world. At $3.50 each, every one of them is absolutely loaded. Three would honestly fill me up, but I always want four. After getting burned by spots that ask around 75% more and deliver anywhere between 25-50% less, Chula Tacos feels like an absolute godsend of a Tijuana-style taqueria and I can't see any other contenders being my go-to. So, when I say "Tacos will fix me," what I mean nowadays is "Chula Tacos will fix me."
