Cute place where you order at the counter and then pick a table. There are around 6-10 tables but not many tables for big groups, the tables are glued to floor so you can't move two together. They have regular burgers, chicken patty and an impossible patty on the menu along with fries, shakes and fried Oreos. I got the impossible burger. I forgot to ask for pickles and they were so nice to give them to me in a cup on the side. Also free water, and it's seltzer! Just ask for a water cup. There is cheese on the impossible burger, doesn't say it's vegan cheese so I suspect it's regular cheese, making this is a vegetarian burger rather than vegan The burger I know is vegan but tasted undercooked and soggy. We decided to visit this place for dinner as we were looking for a casual and quick bite to eat as it was past normal dinner time. We decided to get the Standard and the Smokeshow with fries on the menu. I'm not a fan of BBQ sauce but the onions rings got me. You order on the kiosk located on the counter. Service-wise, there isn't much, you pick up your food at the counter once it's ready/call your name. There is seating inside and outside. The burgers were fine, nothing noteworthy. A tiring weekend walk around downtown JC lead me to Diesel and Duke's (#1) after the hunger pangs and thirsty spells nearly did me in. I was happy to finally indulge after having this place on my bookmarks for more than a year. It was everything I had hoped it would be: delicious, fast, and food coma-inducing. The setup is pretty simple: find the large menu on the counter and order / pay first. They take credit cards and have a pretty awesome check-in offer (#2) Then find a seat either along their large communal tables that can sit 4 folks on each side or along the counter facing the window for some people watching action. The food part of the menu is simple, with roughly 6 burger types and some sides that mainly consist of fries and fried oreos. Bottled water is a $1 and fountain sodas are $2.39. The latter has unlimited refills, so go to town on the drinks. Burgerwise, we opted for the standard ($7.99), the SPBB ($8.49), and breakfast ($8.49), along with a side of poutine ($5.69) and oreos (free with Yelp check-in). Everything came out exactly as I expected. Nothing fancy here, just a slab of burger meats with toppings / condiments. The poutine was surprisingly the stand out, the gravy and curds were on point. I think the standard burger was a solid choice, though the breakfast burger was better, if not significantly greasier. The fried oreos would be a highlight for the average sweet tooth and I gather their other variations (cereal fried, fruity pebbles, etc.) would also be a crowd pleaser. Another surprise? The clean bathroom. I appreciate the fact things were orderly and there was plenty of paper towels and soap. It sounds crazy to be appreciative, but I think I've seen too many whack bathrooms over my time. Lastly, the guys at the counter are hilarious. They're working hard but blasting some fun 90s music while hamming it up with each other. They're quick to put out orders for the takeout folks and manning the register well. Diesel and Duke has somehow slipped into my life as an every two week thing, and I don't even know how. I think they were open for 2 or 3 years before I even tried it. As a pescatarian, I don't get very excited about burgers. Diesel and Duke is a four star operation for me just by having a good vegetarian option on the menu. But they don't just have a vegetarian option, they have a slamming option, the BEYOND BURGER (Vegetarian Beyond Patty, lettuce, tomato, aioli & ketchup). You can basically sub the beyond burger with the meat patty on all of the burgers on the menu, so inspired by the breakfast burger I add a fried egg and onion ring to the beyond burger and remove the ketchup. This is hands down my favorite veggie burger in town and I think I need one every 2 weeks just to survive. Service is always good. The only negative things I can say is sometimes I get ketchup on my burger which gives me a huge case of sads because I hate ketchup. And last time they forgot to add the egg to my burger. read more
