I placed an order online through DoorDash for pickup ASAP and it said it would be ready by 12:55 PM. This happened last sunday and there were no customers inside. Since we had a little time, we decided to stop at Walmart first to grab a few things before picking up the order. When we finally arrived, we let them know we were there to pick up. The two girls at the register looked at me and my friend like they had no idea where our order was. After I showed them the order confirmation, they suddenly realized and said, "Oh, it's the big order." Then, instead of resolving it right away, they told us that someone else had already taken our order because they gave it to the wrong person. What really frustrated me was their reaction; they just stood there looking at us like, "Okay... what do you want us to do?" Eventually, they asked if we wanted them to remake it. Of course I said yes, we had already paid for it. We ended up waiting even longer while they remade the entire order, which completely defeated the purpose of ordering ahead. What's worse is that they never called or gave us any kind of heads-up about the mistake. If they knew the order had been given away, why not contact us right away? That way, we would have known when to come, or at least they could have started remaking it immediately. On top of all that, we were not compensated in any way; no apology beyond the bare minimum, no discount, nothing for the inconvenience and extra time we had to wait due to their mistake. It just doesn't make sense that they waited until we showed up, confused and looking for our food, before deciding to fix their mistake. The lack of communication, urgency, and accountability made an already frustrating situation even worse. read more

Prices are insane, and the bread is too much. Tastes the same as a hoagie in Shoprite. The sandwich was bland. Honestly Jersey Mikes is 100 times better tasting and being $3.75 less for a sandwich makes it a no brainer. If you order a turkey Hoagie they charge more for cheese, give me a break. When we make our trips back home to Jersey, there are essential food stops we always make: pizza, pork roll, bagels, and seafood. These things are just indisputably better on the East Coast. Another thing that is impossible to get right in the Midwest are sub sandwiches. Usually, these aren't on our "must have" list because we have a Jersey Mike's out here in Ohio that is decent; however, lately, it doesn't feel like Mike's is even upholding the standards of a Jersey sub. Diesel's was highly recommended to us and now we have another food stop added to our "must haves" list. We stopped in on a Sunday and ordered two half subs: a pepperoni and provolone (not sure of the number) and a roast beef and turkey sub. I added pickles to the club and it was heaven. Additionally, every detail of the sub was spot on, including their use of ripe tomatoes. These sandwiches are huge and well worth the price tag (I believe they were each $9.99). I could only eat a quarter (at Mike's I can eat half no problem). I cannot wait to go back. I ate the other piece two days later and it was still amazing. read more

I love their subs. Sadly I'm giving them only 3 stars because of how they are handling the COVID social distancing within the business! I ordered over the phone but I was told I could come in to order. When I got there 2 other customers where all ready in line to pay and there where 5 young kids working behind the the counter. The kids where literally standing on top of each other. Even though everyone had masks on your still supposed to maintain 6 ft between employees and customers. Plus the kids where not wearing the masks properly. They seem to be working like business as usual. This is one of the better (if not best) sub places in the area, IMO, top three in the area the other two are the lunch box, Rich's sub world . At Diesels I have gotten the 10" Italian , chicken cheese steak and Turkey subs . All have been outstanding. The amount of meat on the subs is twice what you would expect. They use Thurman deli meats (I'd prefer boarheads but still high quality) The pickle sub is something I want to try as many have raved about. So why am I now posting a review after all this time? Earlier this week, we ordered lunch, and waited so long that we actually had to call and check in on where the driver was with our food. They said it would be there momentarily, and within ten minutes, our doorbell rang. A few days later, we found a letter in the mail from them, with a hand written note apologizing, and a gift certificate, without us prompting them for anything like that. They load it up. Think $12 is expensive for a BLT sub? Think again when they put like an entire pack of bacon on your sandwich and it feeds 2 people easy. Also really great pickles, trust me when you go add a whole pickle they're like a buck 25 and so good. They have big bags of chips, big bins of cut pickles, drinks, everything you need to pack a great lunch to go for your day of fun in the sun. Great friendly staff, never had a problem. I ordered a club sub for pick up, which should consist of ham, turkey, cheese and bacon. When I returned home I opened the sub and found nothing but 2 slices of ham, 1 slice of cheese and what appeared to be turkey which had the consistency of dog food. Recently I tried a Jersey Mike's sub just to compare with Diesel's. It was decent, and might be outstanding in another market, but in Ocean County it was way outmatched. (Perhaps Mike's customers never heard of Diesel.) Sometimes, you feel the boss, Diesel, is around just to make sure his staff is putting ENOUGH meat and other ingredients in the sandwich or wrap, not the reverse. No one ever left there hungry! Speaking of hungry - following Superstorm Sandy I watched Diesel prepare dozens of subs which he sent to the local shelter. I would return for that reason alone. I've passed diesels sub shop for a couple years now and always wanted to try it. I finally decided that this weekend I was going to go. When I walked in the place seemed very dark and dreary, but besides the atmosphere, the sandwiches were good and the selections sounded delicious. When we were placing our order, the guy behind the counter was not writing anything down, but I was impressed that he was able to recall so many orders. The downside was that the sandwiches took a while to make and our order was messed up a little bit because one of the sandwiches were forgotten.
