Let me contextualize this: Dig Inn is a 4/5 IN COMPARISON to all the other places in Morningside Heights. In NO WAY is it an actual 4/5 when comparing to every place I've ever eaten - more of a 2.5-3. But Dig Inn brings much needed healthy and fresh food to starving and sad college students. Nothing is better than Dig Inn after I've just woken up too late and need to study during finals week. I just grab some Dig Inn, instantly feel healthy, and immediately am feeling better about myself. Dig Inn's smalls are close in size to their large, and usually because of the sheer amount of fiber you consume, you are just as full. I usually get brown rice + chicken (usually very good and juicy, sometimes not salty enough or too charred or too dry) + kale/string beans (these ARE THE BEST)/broccoli/or kale salad. Just a really great place to get vegetables after you've been struggling. Not the best food I've eaten, not even close - but really brings quality, healthy food to Morningside Heights and is a welcome alternative to Mel's burgers or Amigo's quesadillas...or halal. read more

The place is A-OK :) The vegie meals that I got a couple of times were not tasty at all; there was something about the way they make them that gives a weird flavor to the food. I give this place 3 stars because I like the concept and taste of the food. However, I will give it a low rating because I do not like that so far the last 2 times I've attempted to eat here I see flies all over the establishment. Dig Inn offers a variety of options from which you can choose from and is also very open for the flies to land on. I ordered and ate once then saw the flies after I had already finished, I didn't go back for months. This last time I stepped in and saw flies again and just walked out. Gross very very gross. I'm gonna miss the farm fam when I move! Best staff in the world, plus the food is always great! I'd recommend going with a split side so you can get three flavors and more nutrients. I always get the farro base, split the beats and kale and broccoli with tofu. The concept of Dig Inn is very much like Chipotle. You pick your protein with sides and grains. Your options for proteins are Tofu, Steak, Chicken, Salmon, Meatball, etc. And your options for sides are mac n cheese, watermelon salad, grilled kale salad, brussels sprouts, roasted sweet potatoes, etc. They have both inside and outside seatings, and this place is very popular among college students. I have tried both the salmon and the steak, and they were both very disappointing. The steak was super rare (almost raw). I asked them to cook it a bit more for me; however, they recooked my already sliced steak. Which is a terrible idea. I asked for medium/medium rare. And since they just re-cooked the sliced meat, it obviously came out to be very well done. Anyway, the meat was bland and flavorless. The quality of it was not great either. The salmon also could have used a bit of seasoning. I feel like this place doesn't really like the concept of seasonings in general. For grains I got the brown rice; however, it was undercooked. It tasted lock tiny rocks in my mouth. Very hard to chew. For the price you pay, you get unfriendly service, low portions, and bland food. No I don't recommend this place, and no I won't be back. I honestly think Chipotle is better than this place. At least, they season their meats. read more

I love the food at Dig Inn (as evidenced by the fact that I keep returning, hoping for better service.) The brussel sprouts, cauliflower, and raw kale salad are absolutely delicious. That being said, it's a continually frustrating experience ordering. Everyone, with the exception of one person, seems disgruntled and is carrying on some separate conversation with someone far across the room (lots of shouting back and fourth.) When my large veggie plate was literally only half-filled, I requested an extra scoop of broccoli, and the woman literally took the tiniest scoop of a single extra broccoli to add to it. There is no consistency with portion size. I've never been to a place more stingy or picky about portions. Anywhere else, a request to have an extra scoop is cheerfully obliged. Yes, if every single person requested more and this became a problem, they would need to address it. But customers should not be leaving feeling that last time they were served a sizable amount more. If Dig Inn is so concerned with portion sizes, why not invest in a scale to weigh plates, and charge people accordingly? I would much prefer that. Also, whenever I order a sandwich, it usually ends up being forgotten, until I remind them I'm waiting. Their whole system of organization is chaotic and inefficient. I will continue to go back, because I really do like the food. But I will also continue to bring up these frustrations and discuss them with others. read more

First they rush you through the line like it's the Soup Nazi out of Seinfeld. If you've never been there and you don't know the deal and ask for a third side they don't warn you you're about to get charged for an extra side and you'll get ripped off for carrots. Before you know it what you thought was going to be a decently priced lunch turns into a $15 affair. I don't care if the food is good at this point, getting ripped off just sucks. Loved this cute little space that reminds me of the rest of NYC, that the few blocks of Columbia have thus far, refused to be apart of. Why are they charging more than competitors in prime real estate locations downtown? Insane and unsustainable. 2) Why is there a colorful display and set-aside area for special flavored ice teas when it neither taste like tea nor the flavors they claim to be, and at such a high price per cup. I might actually prefer McDonald's for once. But seriously, their homecooked-styled entrees and sides are pretty decent and most importantly, healthy. Dig Inn is the best option for healthy, quick, and tasty meals in the Columbia area. The chefs turn the produce from local farms into delicious side dishes, with several hot and cold choices that vary with the season. A typical meal is a "base" (a grain or greens), two sides, and a "protein" (tofu, fish, chicken, or beef). Sometimes I make a meal of just three sides (called a "farmers plate"), and my favorite "protein" is the always-succulent chicken breast. The dishes can be punched up a bit with various sauces. The price ($9-13, depending on the protein) is very reasonable given the satisfying quantity and quality of the food. I get my lunch there regularly, and I have always found the service to be friendly and remarkably efficient even at the busiest times. This is my favorite fast food place. Very good quality of the food and prices, fast and nutritional. The food taste delicious. I work near by and had lunch there almost every day. My daughter' s been here many times but this was my first and I loved it! They offer a meal with meat lover and vegan options and 2 sides that can also be purchased separately and salads and sandwiches. We split a small order for lunch she had the chicken and rice I had her sides and choose kale roasted with garlic and a wonderful lentil apple salad. We both had some of their fabulous iced tea and they let us my use our cups (to save waste.) Its great to spend money at places that are also aware of impacts; they use environmentally responsible packaging and provide recycling and other on-site waste reduction logistics. They are farm to table and as such support local food production. And as others have affirmed their staff is very customer service focused. I was feeling crappy about my carnivorous-ness for the wk so I came here on recommendation from a friend. The small veggie plate was cheap ($5) and tasty! Line was nuts but it moved very quickly during lunch time. I got rice with some chickpea couscous over it, spaghetti squash and beets with sunflower seeds. The beets were fried and very oily and reminded me of meat (weird), but still good. Couscous was yum, rice fine, spaghetti squash was well flavored. I had an iced tea, too -- half ginger/half passion. Was a little too sweet. Maybe half plain, half a flavor would have been a better choice. My friend and I came here after a long day of studying. We were both feeling really shitty and overwhelmed with our lives and despite my pestering about going to eat something unhealthy and bad to make ourselves feel better about being bad, he stuck true and fast to eating at Dig Inn. His rationale was that he would personally feel worse if he ate something super greasy and unhealthy at this time ... I guess he's not a fan of unhealthy comfort food. But anyway, since I've never been to Dig Inn and one of my other friends has been raving about this place, I figured, why not? I could probably do myself some good and eat something relatively healthy. Dig Inn Seasonal Market is a small place that serves a lot of locally sourced, non-GMO foodstuffs. You line up and get a tray filled with your choices. I ended up getting the whole grain with chicken, upstate macaroni and cheese, and the kale and granola salad. After awkwardly maneuvering my way into my seat with my giant student backpack, I was finally ready to eat my healthy meal. After a slight struggle ensued between me and the plastic cover, I was ready to ... Dig Inn. (Haha, get it? I'm so punny.) The chicken was very flavorful and mixing it with the whole grains was a good choice. I've been trying to explore other carbohydrate options and so the fact that I was able to choose whole grains was very satisfying. The macaroni and cheese was creamy and the macaroni was cooked to perfection. The kale and granola salad had a great flavor and whatever dressing was drizzled over this salad really blended the kale and granola together in a great way. The best part, in my opinion, was the fact that if you ate each of these things together (as in, chicken, whole grains, macaroni and cheese, and the kale salad [or a combination thereof] in one bite), it would still taste great. There are some foodstuffs that taste great by itself but awful when its combined with other things, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that all these flavors don't overpower each other when eaten together and that they actually go extremely well together. I'm not sure if anyone else eats like that (but I'm sure there's SOMEONE out there who does) so this little bit might sound gross - feel free to skip it or purge your brain of this image. Overall, I really like Dig Inn. I think its a little pricey, maybe, but when I'm trying to be healthy, I'll probably come here. read more

Noemi, Jackie, Shikeem, and Anna are amazing employees always greet me with a smile and I'm picky when it comes to ordering and they always deliver and never seem annoyed by my picky demands. Great food and pretty decent portions. Tight seating so trying to find a place during lunch is gonna be tough. They have fresh chicken, fish, and meat, as well as great vegetarian fare.
