One of my favorite Chinese food spots. My boyfriend and I have tried various items on their menu and have not been disappointed. Dan Dan noodle soup is great when you're wanting something to warm you up. Very filling. They're portions are super generous and they don't skimp on the proteins. If you get a dish with shrimp, you actually get a good portion of shrimp, unlike other places where you get a shrimp. Great customer service. My boyfriend and I love this place and I am happy to see they've remained opened. Support local businesses and order take out. The restaurant is always clean. We've never had a bad experience here. We moved here from the bay area, where we have many exceptional Chinese & Dim Sum restaurants. We have been coming to Dim Sum Inn since it opened & find the quality and taste of the Dim Sum & assortment to be excellent, similar to the bay area. The Chefs are from San Francisco. As many times I have been here they couldn't give a price break on pork dumplings. I wanted 4 dozen pork dumplings and they wanted 72.10 cents. No price break at all. Surprisingly good Chinese restaurant in Salinas. The dim sum is good, similar to what you would get from SF. I had the shrimp dumplings, pork hash, sticky rice in lotus leaf, beef balls, char siu buns. The sticky rice, shrimp dumplings and the beef balls were great. The other two was average. This for the adventurous the food is kind of like Chinese but different you get little plates of a bun type outside with a filling inside. They also have noodle and rice dishes I liked it it the restaurant is clean and the waiters are attentive and the Dad is tasty It's definitely worth a try. read more

I wanted to try this place primarily for the dim sum. When we got there the place was empty and cold, but It was nice and clean and the service was good enough. I ordered the Shrimp dumplings and the Shumai. I was expecting it to be small, sorta like the size of a sushi roll that has been cut small enough to fit it in your mouth. I was wrong. The shirmp dumpings were pretty big. It did not have that much flavor to it and the only thing that was inside the dumpling was shirmp! Probably would be best to dip it in soy sauce. The Shumai tasted better then the Shirmp Dumplings. Its a cool spot! Im pretty sure that there are a lot more items on the dim sum list that would not disappoint. I would definately go there again. We have been coming here for many years. The waitstaff was always friendly. However after my experience, I will not be coming back. The cashier/waiter was rude, and lazy. Placed an order to go. Went to pick it up. We had ordered 3 entrees with 3 sides of rice since he said entrees don't include rice. I get there and its $48.00. I looked at the receipt. He charged me $12.00 for 3 sides of rice. I said no thank you. We won't be having $12 dollars of rice. He was perturbed having to rering my bill. Next as usual, I asked for hot mustard. He said, We don't have any. I said we usually get the one they make in the back. He said, Well I can't make it. I dont know how. I said well what about the people who cooked my food can they make it? He said, No. I said So you're saying that the cooks in the back do not know how to make hot mustard? He said, yeah. I was disgusted at how he was talking to us. $12.00 for 3 sides of rice? And the hot mustard laziness? I will take my hard earned money somewhere else. read more

What a great place. I had no idea we had dim sum in the area. The restaurant was very accommodating. We had reservations for 6 but asked for two more seats, and it was no big deal. We ordered family style and shared everything. We must have ordered over 20 different dishes. My favorites were the eggplant dim sum, shrimp dumplings, chicken wings and the Singapore noodles. A few disappointments: the mushrooms were not cooked. The filling was, but the mushroom caps were essentially raw. The roast duck was pretty fatty and they were out of BBQ pork dumplings at 6:30pm on a Saturday. The vegetables and one of the soups came out over 30 minutes after the first item came out, which was a bit surprising. It was a great value for the money - everyone was stuffed. Super tasty shrimp dumplings. Shrimp balls are ok, lacking a little flavor and spongy. The fried mushrooms look good in the menu and look like they are the long oyster mushrooms but once I got the order they were plain white button fried mushrooms that tasted nasty. This place is so delicious ! I recommend the wonton soup the pork and shrimp dumplings. I also ordered the mushroom chicken which I thought needed more flavor but I just added a bit of soy sauce and it was good. The pork buns we didn't like but I think that was our personal preference. The bbq pork inside was sweet and the outside didn't have much flavor. Even though we didn't like some dishes I still think they deserve five stars. My husband and I decided to try this place out. My husband was sick and he was craving congee (rice porridge) but Chinese version versus Filipino version. Dim Sum Inn offered rice porridge so we decided to give it a try. Here is what we ordered chicken rice porridge beef rice noodle roll sesame ball walnut shrimp Hong Kong style combo crispy noodle tea The food over all is good except the fact that it was too salty. This won't hinder us from coming back but perhaps they can cut back on the salt a bit. We eat dim sum often when we go to the bay area and we would need to come back to try the other options and see if it is decent. With regards to service, it was ok. We only saw 2 men working the floor and there were 2 large parties celebrating a graduation. It seemed like more attention was with them since there would be a bigger tip. The gentlemen forgot our order of the rice porridge which was the whole reason why we went in the first place. He asked if we still wanted it and we said yes. Our favorite Chinese place is closed due to the holidays we were craving Soup so we came here and first of all they give u the choice of where to sit which is cool. We sat down at a booth and it is private no one can see you. Our food was out pretty quick and looks fresh and yummy it was very tasty I got the sizzling rice soup and my boyfriend the war wonton soup can't complain it is almost as good as our favorite Chinese place. The place also looks tidy and cleaned up which comforts me the waiter was on point with our drinks also. We will be coming back for sure. The price is a little expensive but the food is good. Came in just for a dim sum snack so only 4 stars until I come back to try the rest of the menu. I got the Shanghai style pork dumplings and the veggie spring rolls. Both were delicious. The meat in the pork dumplings was surprisingly flavorful with a hint of ginger and pepper. The spring rolls had fresh veggies and were fried perfectly and not greasy at all. Can't wait to come back and try other things. Yes they are a little pricey but I'll pay extra for excellent food. read more

I cannot tell you how excited I was to hear about this place. Dim Sum without the drive North, or even further South (think L.A., Orange County) this could literally rock my world. And now having tried the place I'm reeling my enthusiasm in just a bit. I give it many kudos, the place is clean, bright, extremely welcoming and the staff in their denim shirt uniforms were attentive without being overbearing. The menu is not extensive but what we tried came out hot (pet peeve of mine is cold or lukewarm dim sum) and very tasty. Not quite the refined dim sum of Hong Kong, Shanghai or Taipei but solid in authenticity. I wish they had turnip cake (my absolute favorite dim sum dish) but I get you can't have everything. The reason I can only give this place 3 stars is the pricing. I'm not sure why everything is one price and on the high side at that $5.50/dish. I think a tiered system is better, shrimp, meat dishes may be more but simple items should be less. Pricing threw us because on the regular/dinner menu it's marked $6.50 and we didn't even noticed the $5.50 on the dim sum menu until we got our check. We didn't order anything but dim sum but noticed that other items were pretty pricey too, $10.99 for fried rice? I'm glad they're here, I wish them much success but I don't think I'll be a regular unless prices come down. read more
