I had the Tom Yum Noodle soup for lunch the other day and it was fantastic! Fresh fish, tender-crisp vegetables, hot & spicy just to my taste, delicious broth. I was in heaven. The only truly edible things are the dim sum ... which I'm pretty sure are not made on site but heated up on site from frozen. And it is very pricy. The fried rice is mushy and overcooked, the hot and sour soup is not hot nor sour ... in fact it didn't even have salt. The sweet and sour pork was overcooked and hard. The shrimp and chicken were mostly cooked properly if utterly unflavored. The squid was so hard you could not even cut Into it with a knife... i had to discard all pieces with squid or calamari. The vegetables have little to no flavor at all. Egg rolls were under cooked so the insides of the egg rolls were chilly and mushy. The sauces they send with the dim sum are non existent or so minuscule that one person may could dip two pieces (that's being generous). I think this last food order will be my last... i kept going back after some time thinking it would be better ... but after eating food from here seven times in past five years. The cost of eating out is just too dear these days to keep hoping for something better from a place that has a proven record of only becoming worse. read more

Normally come here about once a year and I'm always very satisfied. This time we were able to get some of the dim sum, some seafood soup, fried rice and beef/broccoli. The food was very delicious and the portions are even better! The fried rice stood out as we got the combination and can completely eat that solo. Good place to stop and eat when shopping at Gilroy outlets. The place is very spacious and clean. I got the lunch special fried tofu with egg fried rice and dinner mango chicken. I had a large delivery order from Ginger Cafe a few weeks ago and was highly impressed. Everything was packed perfectly, the food was great, and I'm still thinking about that yummy Chinese food dinner. Favorites included the Kung Pao Chicken (4 1/2 stars) Orange flavored chicken (4 1/2 stars) Orange Flavored Vegan Option (5 Stars -- for being vegan, this was phenomenal), fried rice (5 stars) and quite a few other dishes that were all excellent! I would gladly order from here again next time I'm up in Gilroy, this place was awesome!! read more

The restaurant was very empty. There was only one other couple here. It was very nice to have the space but makes you worry about why there aren't more people eating here. We ordered basic egg roll, the dim sum sampler, combination chow mein, and Shanghai Noodle Three delight. The egg roll came with 2 rolls. They were the perfect amount of crispy and flavor. The dim sum sampler was mostly average. The only piece we could not eat because we found it disgusting was the chicken mochi. My partner said the chow mein was something he would come back for. If that was the only thing he ate it would be 5 stars. I ate the Shanghai Noodle Three delight. It was not a delight. It advertised having items like noodles, bean sprouts, onions, chicken, egg, shrimp, and calamari. After ordering I found it is supposed to come with 3 pieces of shrimp and 3 pieces of calamari. My plate only had two pieces of calamari. At first I was disappointed there wasn't more calamari, but then I tasted it. The calamari tasted rubbery, tough, and no good flavor. When I brought the problem of only having 2 pieces of calamari and they only said it usually tastes like that and I should have gotten three pieces. (So no solution.) My advice to the restaurant, if you know the majority of your customers think the calamari is disappointing, don't serve calamari. The dish would have been much better if you put more shrimp and deleted the calamari. (Without up charging customers.) The servers were kind and friendly. It did seem weird how busy they were when there were only two tables eating at the place. We barely saw them but they did fill up our drinks before we thought to ask. read more

It never disappoints to satisfy my craving and I always find myself coming back. * The staff is always respectful and kind - they even know my order every time I go in! New generation 1970 Hong Kong or Taiwan food styles are different from first generation 1920 Mandarin or Cantonese like old SF Chinatown versus new style fusion. I drove up from Southern California and was feeling a little hungry, so I stopped at the Ginger Cafe for a light meal. The restaurant has good food, I've been here to eat many times over the years, it's near the Gilroy outlets, by the ATT store, and somewhat near the Reebok store, but a stone's throw away. You can come here for much or dinner, the food is very tasty. The wait staff were very nice, there is lots of parking. Saturday Afternoon for lunch, was not busy or packed at all, so we got seated right away & great customer service from the time you walk in, seated & ready to take your order. While we were having lunch, they were starting to get busy, so that meant this place must be good. They have a huge menu to choose from of different types of food & everything we order, had its own unique flavor & very flavorful. When our food came out, it also had great presentation, so that was a plus too. Lots of parking because it's located in a plaza & thats another win win. First time going there even when I lived in Gilroy for 3 years I never went. We went for a late lunch and still made it on time for the lunch Specials. We were very happy with the 2 lunch specials we ordered. They fried rice was a little on the simple side but still good. The beef was super hot and I absolutely loved it! The chicken and green beans were the star of our 3 dishes, the beans were tender and still had a light crunch to them. The chicken was flavorful, hot and juicy. The 1 thing I was a little disappointed in was the candied prawns. They were cooked perfectly with a lite and yet still crisp exterior given that they were tossed in the creamy sauce. The down fall to this tho was the sauce.....its was very very mayo forward and not to much sweetness to it at all. The service was really good and the restaurant was very clean and nice. Absolutely delicious. We got the shrimp and bamboo shoot dumplings, which were *chef's kiss* and then we had the basa fish with scallions. The fish was excellent and I loved the way it was cooked. We were attending a meet and greet two nights ago and a highly respected new friend shared that Ginger Cafe had the best Pad Thai in the area! Although we stopped going here due to our last experience 2 years ago, we thought we'd give it another opportunity. And we are so happy that we did. The greeter/hostess was upbeat and cheerful. The waitress was joyful and thorough. The food runners were enthusiastic. The Pad Thai was wonderful, not only as per our new friend's recommendation, but it was surprisingly great even two years ago in the midst of our negative experience at that time. The pork Potstickers were the best I've ever had, so much so that I ordered it twice tonight! The vegetable dumplings that are labeled pan fried were soggy and held an abundance of oil (did not look tall and firm like the photo in the menu (although the potstickers looked better on the table than in the photo!). This spot was recommended to us while we were shopping at the outlets. I must say... it's good but it's not great. The service was kind of slow and we had to ask to order. The restaurant itself was decent and there's good amount of seating. I like how their menu offers different options including a dim sum section! I really enjoyed the har gow shrimp dumplings and the pork buns were good too. We got the Tom yum noodle soup and it lacked flavor honestly... it wasn't really spicy like we had asked and it wasn't the best tasting soup. Perhaps we dined here on an off evening, but the food was quite disappointing compared to our many previous visits. Since 1978, Gilroy, California, has been celebrating its identity as the self-declared "Garlic Capital of the World"...yet, our Crispy Shrimp Garlic Noodles dish was missing a titled ingredient, garlic! Not even a hint of this aromatic ingredient. The shrimp tails had not been removed on the shrimp; perhaps this is why they call it crispy as the entire shrimp was encased in a coating, yet there was very little crispness except from the tails. After mentioning this to our waitress, she had no comment on the entree. The Lemongrass Lamb Chops were of very poor quality, and had an abundance of fat.They were served medium and had a distinct lemongrass flavor coming through each bite. The four small lamb chops were well-presented alone, so I ordered a small bowl of white rice to accompany them. The rice was extremely hard and dry, with no moisture within each grain - absolutely no fluffiness. Our waitress quickly advised us that 'the rice cooker was not working correctly this evening', as if she's heard other complaints. Our overworked waitress, Sara, was very pleasant, but the kitchen service was painstakingly slow. We left her a nice gratuity, but we're not sure if there will be a return visit to Ginger Cafe due to the disappointing changes in their food quality. read more

We started with a Dim Sum Platter that had two of everything: Siu Mau, Ha Gao, Squid Ink Lobster Dumpling, and another that was not memorable. Overall, it was a great starter! Very tasty!! My daughter and the other kids had Steamed Pork Bun. I didn't get to try it but they seemed very content and happy with their dish. I was content as well, so I didn't eat the Egg Custard a few hours later and shared it with my man. The bun oozed with sweet yummy custard. I like how it wasn't overly filled, like at some restaurants. It was enjoyable to eat since it wasn't messy at all. The service was outstanding, I don't have any complaints at all! Surprised I never reviewed this place. It's my go-to for a spot to eat in Gilroy and I've been here quite a few times. I like getting the dim sum sampler - though sometimes it's more delicious than other times. Recently I enjoyed the squid ink one with lobster a lot! I tried the fish that has basil and garlic and it was really exceptional. It was kind of crispy and delicious. Also really appreciated the prawns I got and the spicy coconut soup was great. I've found the service sometimes better than others - maybe depending on how busy they are and also if they are doing a lot of to go orders. The parking is super easy, right in front, and if you want a real lunch when going to Gilroy outlets, I really recommend Ginger Cafe! read more
