Super helpful owner. I had been having lots of issues at Mazda since the local dealer switched ownership. My car battery kept dying every year and a half or two years. The dealer is so focused on selling, it's hard to know if I'm actually finding a solution or not. Dimitri was informative on the phone, listened to my issue and concerned, explained what he thought, and had me come in that day. He did end up swapping my battery in the end, but I didn't feel like I was being "sold" something they wouldn't address the issue. Based on online reviews, I was less skeptical than I might have been with another auto service place. And I'm glad they were accurate. read more

Always up front, easy going demeanor , uses high quality parts, very good diagnostic skills, and his attention to detail is unparalleled. Brought in my 92 Honda commuter due for a timing belt change out, but I noticed a whine coming from my water pump location. He confirmed it. Later during the work he discovered the previous shop had not used the correct parts and not properly reinstalled the gear assemblies. He saved the engine. The quality of his work and customer service is every bit worth it, I had an awesome experience with him, couldn't be more thrilled. Had an issue with the radiator hose coming off on my 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee and took it to Dimitri. He told me they were booked out for a couple of weeks but he did take a quick look and determined that the issue would be a simple fix for them to do that same day, and he charged me a very reasonable rate for the part and labor. Will definitely come back if I have future issues and will recommend him to friends and family for sure. read more

Took my 2006 Corvette to this shop after it was recommended by my neighbor, The car had been to 2 other shops that were unable to fix the problem of service charging system and starting issues. One shop charged me $191. and told me the car needed a starter and alternator and that the Body Control Module was drawing power killing the battery.. That shop refuse to even work on the car as they said the exhaust would need to be removed to do the job... Dimitri took the job and replaced the starter without removing the exhaust I might add, seems the starter was the problem all along, replacing it allowed the BCM to allow the alternator to function properly and so far no parasitic draw.. Apparently the BCM controls the action of the alternator and the alternator is connected to the starter and when the starter malfunctioned the BCM wouldn't let power go through to the starter or battery reducing the risk of a fire. Anyway big shout out to Dimitri's for a job well done at a very reasonable price, I highly recommend his shop as he is friendly and listens to his customer and provides the needed service without a bunch of boloney included. read more

We were in need of a new shop after some dissatisfaction with our old place. Dimitri had a very easy communication style, was very upfront, and positive when I called. My old shop would have never wanted to speculate over the phone or offer any quotes without seeing the vehicle. I was pretty sure we had an alternator issue so it wasn't very complicated and Dimitri gave me a very reasonable estimate. It was a flat-out, matter-of-fact, cost of the part and about how long the actual repair should take. Even though he was booked solid, he suggested I bring it down right away as he could usually get a straight forward repair done fairly quickly, either today/tomorrow. Really?!? I did just that, and BOOM, done the next afternoon. I realized I had gotten used to putting up with less than great service from our old guy. Dimitri answers his own phone, obviously stays SUPER busy doing repairs, and doesn't seem stressed, hurried, or bothered when dealing with customers. Preface: I am not a person who has strong reactions (positive or negative) to a lot of things but I am writing this because it can be scary to "try out" a new mechanic and because I had the best possible experience with Dimitri. I have a 2002 Mazda Protege5 that had not had any maintenance for 1.5-2 years and it had started to shake & stall every time I started from a stop position as well as stall if I kept it in Drive while idling at a red light. It was also screaming at me every time I turned it on and started driving but I knew that was a belt issue. What I was hoping to find was someone who would help me figure out the problems without charging me $150+ JUST for that, advise me on what was urgent/what could wait and then move forward on what *I* decided to do without making me feel guilty or pressured. Basically I didn't want every single thing that could be fixed/updated on my car to be fixed/updated just because. At that point in my life I couldn't afford it. Dimitri met every single one of my hopes. He was open & communicative right from the start. He had me come in for a basic assessment at no charge (just the diagnostic scanner) and when multiple indicator lights came on & he knew he would have to poke around my car a bit to get at the problems he let me know he wasn't going to charge me a bunch of money for something that likely wouldn't take him long (he threw out $30-50 dollar estimate to fully find out what was wrong but that's not an official price so mileage my vary). Once he had a clear view of the specific issues he KNEW were a problem he didn't just go forward with fixing it: he cleared the fixes with me and also suggested that we start with 1-2 things at a time as some of the bigger fixes may be responsible for the smaller problems. And he was right! He told me what to keep an eye on going forward and now my car runs great. I will 100% absolutely be taking all of my business to Dimitri from here on forward, including oil changes so he can do basic checkups/maintenance on my car. My total bill was around $600 over two stages of fixing (I had the choice to continue on with fixing a secondary issue otherwise it would have been just $300 to fix the main issue) but I know now that it would have been way less if I had kept up with basic maintenance on my car throughout the year instead of waiting until something bigger went wrong. Dimitri is fair, honest, experienced, easy-going, professional and friendly. He explained everything simply and took time to answer all my questions. If you need a mechanic, he is the one. Come in with a positive attitude and he will not disappoint. read more

Dimitri's Rules. I have been taking my old (200k miles and still rolling) Toyota to Dimitri for 4 years, and the previous owner took it to him for a year prior to that. What you get: high quality, honest service at a reasonable and competitive price. Dimitri is trustworthy and doesn't tell you a bunch of crap to get you to spend money you don't have. I take my car to him exclusively for oil changes even though it costs me a few bucks more than the Jiffy places because he notices things and tells me if he sees anything whack going on. His familiarity with my vehicle and oil change "look-sees" have gone a long way toward keeping me on the road and not stuck somewhere in the dark waiting for a tow truck. I have found two great mechanics in my life, Sandpiper Auto in Eugene and now Dimitri. Prior to finding Dimitri though there was a 10 year gap in there filled with incompetent, rude, and sometimes just plain dishonest and cash gouging service providers. I'm almost scared to write this review as I love having him available when I need him - but he's saved my @ss too many times that I can't ignore how great and honest this guy is. So I've decided not to remain selfish in keeping him all to myself. This auto mechanic shop is hands down the most honest shop I've ever taken my vehicle to. I was convinced the issue was the starter and I even mentioned that. I had a clunking noise on my Mazda 5 that I had taken to other mechanics on multiple occasions and no one could diagnose the actual problem, even after having replaced many parts. I decided to try Dimitri's Auto. I brought the car in around 10:00 am, he did a quick test drive, heard the clunking, and by the end of day had the problem identified and fixed for a very reasonable fee. I was taking my Subaru Outback to a "Suby Specialist" in town who spent over a year trying to figure out my idling problem, unsuccessfully. Took Dimitri under 10 minutes to diagnose it and about a half a day to fix it. Brought it back two weeks later to replace blown head gaskets and he did the work on-time and for what he quoted me. I had no clue what was wrong with my car when I took it to Dimitri, just that the check engine light was on (and had been for a while) and I needed to get it passed DEQ. We've been going to Dimitri for about two and a half years. We first went for an oil change because he's only four blocks from our house in Oak Grove, but he's such a stand-up guy that since then, we've had him do a number of substantial repairs as well as one of our major mileage services. He clearly understands the value of repeat business, customer satisfaction, integrity, and good reputation, because he never tries to upsell us or invent problems to fix. In fact, he's counseled us against certain repairs that we've requested because they're super-expensive and not a safety issue. And as a major bonus, he's not condescending when explaining what needs to be done--I know a lot of women in particular who dread dealing with macho mechanics, contractors, etc., and that is not at all an issue here. A truly good mechanic is a rare and valuable find, and we're very happy to be able to continue supporting this local business. read more

It's so nice to know there is an honest auto mechanic right here in Milwaukie, Oregon! My "Check Engine Soon" light was on and I made up my mind I was NOT going to take my 2002 Trailblazer to the dealership to hear more lies about all the things that supposedly needed fixing. I took it to the dealer 2 years ago for an oil change and was informed then that I needed new brakes. HA! I'm still driving around with the same old brakes and had Dimitri check them 2 weeks ago when I took the car in to him. Guess what?
