Updating to add that the check engine light came on AGAIN today and when my husband hooked his car up to his code reader it said the engine coils needed replaced which more than likely got damaged because someone at NICKS AUTO MECHANICS didn't properly secure his air intake hose and it caused his engine to run hotter. These guys need to be more careful! Don't take your car here unless you want more problems! read more

Sadly, all of their other services are just as high as anyone else and you may hear the old, "it's job for professionals" story a car dealership would tell you, when a YouTube video shows it isn't. Nick's saved the day for us. After going to another repair shop who was referred to us and them telling me my car was fine, the noise and vibration got worse and worse. I was afraid to drive the car, but found Nick's who is close by. I took the car in and they found the problem quickly. They sent several quotes via text and email (I did ask for a quote on some work that was due soon). The quotes were reasonable and I approved. The work ended up being pretty substantial, but they did a very good and professional job. The prices were as quoted and they finished on time. This place is unique in that, they really are honest and do not overcharge. First time in my life I have been to a mechanic and felt completely confident that I wouldn't be taken advantage of and the work would be done right. Talk about honest and reliable!!! Brought in my 2014 Ford Focus with an engine light on. My car is notorious for having an awful transmission, but I wasn't sure if that was the case. Ron did a diagnostic and labor to try and find the issue, but could not work on the transmission due to the TCM warranty on my transmission from Ford. Thank goodness he told me about it. I was able to get my car fixed at the dealer under the warranty. Ron was even nice enough to let me keep my car there for a few days until I could get it towed to the dealership. And they only charged me for the diagnostic. Definitely recommend this place! read more

I am happy to recommend this small business. Usually they handle my oil changes. But my mother's tire got a flat and Les Schwab wanted to charge her for all four tires being replaced instead of just fixing the one. The owner got on the phone and explained the law and gave me options to take care of this issue in great detail. He was knowledgeable and professional and guess what- they don't even do tires here. BEWARE. I do not know what happened to Nick's quality of repair but it is not like it used to be. I have brought Nick several of my vehicles in the past and if they didn't fix it right the first time, they always made it right at a fair price. This has changed. I brought my roommate's KIA SOL in for repair, like I have done for my truck and my car before, because the SOL was hesitating upon acceleration. Ron, at Nick's, said it needs a new oil pump that it will cost $2600. After I paid the $2600, within 2 weeks the engine light came on. We took the SOL back and Ron said the car will need a new engine and the work they did exacerbated the problem. Then Ron said Nick's can not do the work to replace the engine because Ron called Kia and gave Kia the VIN number and the engine is under warranty. So we took the car to Kia and they said the car is not under warranty and it will cost $9000 to fix it. I called Nick personally and I asked for my $2600 back that I had paid him to fix the car. Nick explained to me that this is 2 separate issues. Nick said the oil pump is like you heart and when Nick replaced the oil pump on the car, they gave the car a new heart. I understand that explanation to mean they gave the car a stroke, which Ron's statement confirms. I spoke to a separate independent mechanic and he explained Nick should never had worked on the car after inspecting it. I trusted Nick like I have trusted him before in the past. Instead, Nick surprisingly tried to cover his mistakes and pass the blame to Kia. I have had to take my roommates car back to Nick before for repair work they missed with the brakes and warped rotors. I feel Nick has taken advantage of me. Nick's quality of work has gone down hill and I will not be taking any of my vehicles back. read more

Nick was very pleasant, but it was a challenge, and took many phone calls, to get clear information from him on the diagnosis details of my car. At first they confused my car with someone else's. Then they said the job would be $2,000 and require my entire dashboard to be taken apart. And ultimately they landed on a price: Nick's estimate: $1,643.74 to fix my A/C Well I decided to do it myself, and my actual cost was far lower: * Refrigerant line: $21.40 * A/C recharge can: $31.95 * Serpentine belt: $35.99 * Desiccant cartridge: $8.14 * A few bike rides to work Actual total: $97.48 (1 hour of work, cold air again!) I imagine they were playing it safe to avoid being in a situation where they underestimated, but the diagnosis was clear with some thoughtful attention. I was very disappointed in their communication and lack of concern for my time. My dad had an 8 am appt to check an oil leak.... turned out to be bad threads on the oil plug. No biggie. Be ready by 4. I show up at 3:50, and am told "we're just waiting for delivery of the plug." At 4:15, the wrong plug gets delivered. Oops. At 4:30, I ask what's going on. "Apparently they don't have the right plug." At this point, I'm 30 minutes late and irritated. I tell Nick I'm late and I ask for a ride a mile away. Nope. Finally they decide to put in a temporary plug. So I'm watching the mechanic finish it up, and he's not moving very fast. I ask him to hurry, and he apologizes and says no one told him I was in a hurry. He did expedite once he knew I was in a rush, but Nick should have told him. And why were they just getting the plug at 4 when they had the car at 8? And why didn't they call when they knew it wouldn't be ready at 4? They may be good mechanics. I don't really know. And I won't find out either. read more

I was there for a P0130 error. I was told that it was an electrical wiring that needed to be replaced near the MAF sensor. The car had the same error code when I picked it up from them weeks later. I was then told that they fixed the problem, but because the ECU isnt communicating, I wont see that they fixed the trouble, which was some bull. Since the price had already reached nearly $700 for something they cant prove they did, I asked for my car. They took me to the garage where I can see my car with the back window down. They proceeded to tell me that the window problem was already there, even though I didn't have any window issues prior to me dropping the car off. I brought the car in for the error code. Now Im being told that I would have to pay an additional $248 to buy a part to roll my back window back up. I refused to pay that and told him that I wasnt paying for something they broke. They brought me back up front to call around for the part that he claim is the problem. The part was well over $300, but the owner didnt want to cover it. Instead, they chose to tell me they could fix it. By fixing the problem, they somehow, rigged the window back up. Since it was raining, I never checked behind them. I didnt realize until a few weeks later, when the sun finally came back out, that my window would not roll down. So not only did they rip me off for over $600, they broke something else, then lied to me about fixing everything. I would NOT trust them to do an oil change. You might leave with a non working AC. read more

They fixed my Honda Element for 1/4 the cost that I was quoted from the Dealer. I had my axle repaired, headlight and oil leak. This shop location was ideal for me, because it's on the Max Orange Line. Having public transit nearby makes all the difference and saves having to coordinate rides. I've been a customer of Nick's for about a year now and they've done a multitude of work on my aging beast of a vehicle. From oil changes, brakes, to major engine repair, it seems they have worked on just about everything on my car. I have been very impressed with the professionalism and quality of the work done each and every time. If ever there has been any question or anything I didn't understand, they have taken the time to walk me through it and explain everything without any hesitation. It's very hard to find a reliable repair shop that is both close to your home, and can get you in and out quickly. Nick's has proven to me time and time again that I have found the right place and the several referrals I've given to others have been equally happy.. Once nice thing is that Nick's is located across the street from the Orange Line Max stop, so if you have to get back to town, or just want to take a one stop run to Milwaukie and grab coffee or lunch and wait for your oil change.......you couldn't ask for a simpler solution. There's also a great walking path behind the Max station to stretch your legs. Overall, Nick's has my full support. The absolute worst experience with a mechanics shop I have ever had. DO NOT GO HERE. YOU WILL BE RIPPED OFF. I AM SUING THEM IN SMALL CLAIMS COURT. Please see below: To whom it may concern, I am writing to dispute the charge of $300.00 paid to Nick's Auto Body using my on 4/30/2019. The reason for this continued dispute is that I did not receive the services I paid for. I had my truck towed to Nick's Auto Body on Sunday, April 28, 2019 fully aware that the starter was out; however, because it was not a business day, I had to use the key drop box. On the envelope that I enclosed my key in, I told them that the starter was out. I got a phone call the next day that they had received my truck and a call on Tuesday, April 30th that it was indeed the starter and an estimate of approximately $500 to replace the starter was given to me. On Wednesday, May 1, 2019, I was able to pick up my vehicle. I was charged $618.41, which is significantly more than the estimate I was given, but I paid the bill . However, a half-mile down the road, my truck began rattling and smoke was coming from under the hood. I immediately pulled over on McLoughlin Blvd. in Portland, OR (a busy 4 lane road during rush hour) and called Nick's Auto Body. They informed me that I needed to get my vehicle back to the shop for them to take a look, but refused to tow it. I used my own AAA membership to have my truck towed back to Nick's Auto Body, given that I had no other options at this point. Upon arrival, I spoke to the front desk about the latest issues. I also requested a refund on all or part of the amount I had just paid them, because not only did they not resolve the issue I brought it into the shop with, my truck now had additional maintenance problems that had not been present prior to it being serviced by Nick's Auto Body. Further, their failure to test run the vehicle following the repairs placed others and myself in danger as I broke down on a major road during the busiest time of day. I received a voicemail the next day that Nick's Auto Body would look at my truck and let me know what the new maintenance problems were. I called multiple times over the next week and was told every time that the person working on it would call me back, but this never happened. Finally, I had to take time off of work and take public transit to Nick's Auto Body in order to actually get a response from them. It took them over a week to finally repair my truck, and I never was told the maintenance issues or given any estimate during that time. I again tried to request a refund from Nick's Auto Body, but they refused. When I asked if my truck would actually drive out of here, the employee told me, "I took it for a test drive this time." The employees of Nick's Auto Body failed to ensure the services were performed correctly and refused to rectify this situation. As a result, I filed this claim. In response to my initial dispute of the charge with, Nick's Auto Care submitted a handwritten document stating that they "let customer know there was a coolant leak, customer decided to drive it away. Towed back in and had heater valve replaced." This never happened and nothing about a coolant leak was included in the initial diagnostic report. Furthermore, in the second diagnostic report dated 5/8/19, it states "checked out vehicle," when approximately two weeks later my vehicle broke down again, with a diagnostic report of cylinder #1 misfiring from a different auto care center merchant, as a direct result of both Nick's Auto Cares negligence and failure to provide services I paid for. Additionally, a different mechanics diagnostic report, they pressure tested the coolant system and found that the system holds pressure and there was no leak at all. This second opinion on company letterhead confirms this service was defective and did not match the description of the problem that Nick's Auto Care is claiming my truck had. Nick's Auto Care has made no attempt to correct the problem, even after multiple phone calls on my behalf to try and resolve this issue. Furthermore, I spoke with Nick directly via telephone and informed him that if they continue to refuse to resolve this issue I will be forced to file a small claims court case for the value of the vehicle in the county where the event happened and was told by the owner over the phone to "go ahead and do that." Therefore I would like to continue with this dispute. I appreciate your consideration on this matter. They send a handy inspection report where things are classified by green (good to go), yellow (needs work soon), red (immediate attention needed), which has helped me to plan ahead. We were charged 525$ for a fuse box to be fixed. We specifically asked to be called before any work was done to our truck so we had an idea of how much it was going to cost. The only call we got was that he pulled it in and THINKS it was the fuse box. 5 days later we get a call saying our truck is ready and it was going to cost 525$. Not only was there not 500$ worth of work done but they didn't even keep in touch with us, we would have been screwed had we not had the money. Wow! My Prius needed its 30,000 mile check up. I was already unhappy with Toyota of Gladstone (after they charged me $89 for an oil change and quoted over $400 for the 30,000 mile check up) and I quit going to Toyota of Portland when they had changed management from Broadway Toyota for several reasons. I called a few Toyota dealerships for quotes: Toyota of Gladstone was by far the highest and Ron Tonkin Toyota was over $200 lower but had horrible reviews. After researching I found that Nick's auto care had excellent reviews and we called and had an estimate for around $180 for the 30,000 mile check up. My husband stopped by to talk with them and liked them a lot and made an appointment, we dropped the car off, picked it up a few hours later and they only charged us $89 because they did what it needed and didn't charge for what it didn't need. I took my 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse to Nick's because it failed to pass DEQ. I was worried it was going to cost an arm and leg to fix but the bill was actually reasonable. They replaced the catalytic converter and a couple sensors for under $500. Besides being a good price the work was also done quickly.
