They allow you the option to drop your car off or wait for it... although the space for waiting is small. If you request it, they will order you a taxi ride to another destination in a certain radius from the shop. If you are looking for quality, honest repair work, then this is the place! He then went on to tell me that if I were to get into an accident, the dog hair in my car would somehow "decrease the value of the vehicle," which he followed with, "some people have allergies." For context: I have a dog kennel in the back of my car and all of the seats are fully covered. This is not a trashed vehicle. And even if it were? It's my car. I'd hate to see his reaction to a vehicle that's actually been trashed by dogs, which, by the way, would still be entirely the owner's right. It is their vehicle, not his. The irony of all of this is that their "lobby" is dirty, grungy, and generally disgusting, visibly in disrepair, yet he felt perfectly comfortable criticizing the cleanliness and value of my vehicle. What makes this even more bizarre is that our interaction had been perfectly normal up until that point. I spent over $500 at this business (more than I would have paid at the dealership, mind you), and there was absolutely no reason for him to suddenly turn nasty other than his obvious disdain for dogs. If dog hair offends you this much, maybe servicing Subarus isn't the right line of work for you. It is an absurd and wildly inappropriate thing to say to a paying customer about their personal vehicle simply because you don't like animals. Based on my experience and after reading other reviews, this doesn't just seem like a dislike of dogs, but a pattern of disrespect toward women. I will gladly support the dealership over ever giving this man my business again.

I took it to Valvoline for a simple service, and they completely destroyed it. They topped off fluids without warning me about a massive leak, and I barely made it down the road before the car started smoking and overheating. I thought the engine was done. ​I had it towed to Superior Import Repair, and they are miracle workers. They looked past the rust and the mess Valvoline left and basically built me a brand new engine. They replaced the head gaskets (using high-quality Six Star ones), the radiator, timing belt, water pump, and even fixed a broken window. They pressured washed the engine bay so well you can't even tell it was a 'beach car' anymore. ​It was a huge repair, but they took a car that was left for dead and made it drive like it's fresh off the lot. If you want a shop that can actually FIX major problems, go here. The value here is incredible. Since my car only has 87k miles, they used upgraded 'Six Star' gaskets and bundled the timing belt service to essentially reset my engine to zero. I basically got a brand-new car for a fraction of the cost of buying a replacement

Went to pick up and it wouldn't start. They were entirely incapable of the diagnosis, my wife got online and found forums that the neutral safety switch (in transmission) was a known issue. Paid nearly$1000. Drove home car wouldn't shift. They forgot to put fluid in it. When I asked for that to be in writing, the owner told me that if he needs to replace the tranny, he would but then would blackball us from the shop. A few months later, the no start issue came back. We took it in several times for warranty. Was told that they once again couldn't duplicate the issue. Once it finally failed for good, I called for warranty the owner literally told me that we missed warranty by a week. The part is like $50 and the majority was labor. They don't stand behind their work and are not competent enough to do it correctly. Took it to another shop and had it repaired correctly. The only reason that I'm leaving 1 star is that the star rating doesn't allow me to go any lower. I'm hoping that a healthy dose of karma comes Jim's way.

Unfortunately that ends now, because the owner Tom failed the test of how a business responds when it fails its duties to its customer. Days after getting a fuel injector replaced by Halsey Automotive, my car broke down hundreds of miles away on Father's Day evening outside Chelan, WA. Thankfully, some extraordinarily kind local mechanics opened their shop (missing a family Father's Day dinner) to provide emergency repair services. The culprit was the fuel injector that Halsey Automotive had installed. I drove all night until 3:00 AM to make it home to my dogs that night. Then first thing in the morning I brought the vehicle into Halsey Automotive. Tom immediately became defensive. He refused to have my vehicle towed, telling me that it was my fault I don't have AAA like he does. Then, the vehicle stayed with him for several days during which he repeatedly failed to call to update me. Finally, on picking up the vehicle, I was told that he was disclaiming responsibility for any of the towing or repair costs that I incurred. While yelling at me, he repeated over and over his position that he isn't responsible for towing costs and that instead of the emergency repair, I should have just had the car towed from Chelan to Portland (which would have cost significantly more) so his shop could have fixed it. He blamed VW for the faulty part, and his position basically boiled down to: you chose to drive your car out of state after we repaired it, so we aren't responsible for the damages our faulty repair caused to you. Of course, he felt it was unreasonable for the kind and qualified mechanics in Chelan to charge a modest fee for the outside-hours emergency services, and he felt that it was my own responsibility to have AAA to provide towing in the event his shop's repairs failed (mind you, AAA wouldn't have covered a tow from Chelan to Portland, anyway). When things go right, Halsey Automotive and Tom are wonderful to deal with. But beware, if anything goes wrong at all, he will dig his heels in at the first suggestion of any accountability and defend his own perfection before he gives us a penny of his profit. Can't recommend them in good conscience.

Since the Air-cooled era is past, their business is centered on water-cooled engines, primarily the 4-cylinder 2.1 liter "water-boxer", in VW Vanagons. The mechanics in the shop are all VW Professionals and can handle any kind of repair your Vanagon may require. They can do all the usual "upgrades" you may want and at very reasonable costs. Tom is a straight-ahead, no BS, VW owner, who has driven these cars for decades. He knows the proper "fix" and sees that it is done right. They are honest and fair. You will not find a better Vanagon-specific shop in Oregon or Washington. Don't go anywhere else. On this review site there are posts by several unhappy VW owners, who have not received the courtesy and respect they demand. This is very likely possible and unfortunate. Customers are fickle in how they want to be treated by automotive service shop owners and the front-office staff of these businesses. When a person has as much experience as Tom, sometimes patience is thin in dealing with whining customers. Keep in-mind he has earned the right to be a true curmudgeon (70 years of repairing VW's) and couple this with numerous health issues that keep him home-bound make for good days and not-so-good days. Halsey Automotive Repair may choose not to work on your VW, due to a shortage of technicians or no parts for your 40 year-old car. It is what it-is, but still the best for what they do.

I had it towed to Metro Metric based on a friend's recommendation and prayed it was a good choice, and they really came through. I dropped the car off at 2:00 pm and Ron told me he probably wouldn't be able to get to it until the next day, which I said was totally fine. To my surprise, they called me to say everything was fixed and done at 8:30 the next morning. They even stayed late to finish the repairs! Their prices are also the best I've found anywhere. I went to another place first that quoted me $1700 (before tax because this was in Washington). Metro Metric only charged me $797, which was actually less than they quoted me for when I dropped it off and told them what the other mechanic said was wrong. Where else can you find a second opinion that charges you $900 less than the first guys? I will definitely be coming back here for any future car troubles! Probably even oil changes from time to time.

You may have to wait several days or weeks for your appointment, but it's worth the wait. Metro Metric will diagnose the problem with ease, and the repair price will be very reasonable. In some cases, they'll tell you that you don't even need to fix the problem at all. My husband and I have been using Metro Metric for several years, and they've been able to solve a bunch of issues on our Honda Element and Scion XB: starter issues, coolant issues, various error codes, etc. We also use Metro Metric for oil changes and routine maintenance. We can't imagine going anywhere else.
