My wife and I enjoyed a nice Italian dinner here. The penne allá vodka was the best dish. We also had a fantastic appetizer with figs, prosciutto and goat cheese. We were lucky that we were able to grab a table during dinner time on a busy Friday night without a reservation. The team was super welcoming and moved things around to fit us in which is always appreciated. Service was friendly and efficient, we shared the caprese salad, angel hair pasta and grilled calamari. I came here for a friend's birthday dinner with about 30 people in their private room, and the experience was great overall. I had the pizza, which was well done, though I would've preferred if it came with a sauce on the side. Service was good given we were a large group. The pasta and pizza was very good and tasty. In general the service was quite good but in my mind they dropped the ball when the server did not comment on our not eaten Nutella cheesecake (two little nibbles). It was way too sweet and hence we did not eat it at all-the server just took it and tossed it without commenting. Of course we did not make a fuss about it but we have been to many places and servers will notice these things-oh well. Came here to try our luck after having been told there were no seats left at The Oxley, and one of the servers were able to find us a table given that we can finish in an hour's time. We shared the charcuterie plate and the Cosimo pizza, which was just the right amount of food. My friend had a glass of red, the Primitivo I Muri, while I decided to try one of their Italian beers. I definitely will get the red wine next time - the beer selection was scarce and the lager I ordered had a grassy taste to it. Not very befitting with pizza and deli meats and cheeses. The Cosimo pizza was definitely the highlight of the meal, but the table bread and their infused olive oil really blew me away till the end of our meal. First, the pizza. It was light, it was airy, like chewying a cloud, and the crust melted in my mouth without me having to chew for long. The truffle oil complemented and was not overpowering, and the soppressata was like a smoky chorizo paste that wasnt salty at all. Now onto the olive oil! I think it had dried hot peppers, bay leaves, whole peppercorns, and rosemary sprigs. I poured a more than generous amount in my plate and used the bread to eat it like soup. The scent of fresh bread with aromatic olive oil really opened up my palate...which was why I looked up with confusion and disappointment when my olive oil plate was whisked away from under my air suspended bread, ready for continous dipping. The server explained that they were making room for the pizza, and that they will bring the olive oil and bread basket back again later. But they didn't!! Even though my palate fully enjoyed the pizza, my mind was thinking about when they could bring back the bread and the olive oil. Update - Aug 9th 2023: I visited Dimmi's three more times since my first review, and each time the bread/olive oil and the Cosmo pizza continued to amaze me. For a restaurant at Yorkville, the prices were not bad at all! The service was great though a bit hectic as it was busy. They serve you bread with EVOO, chilli oil, and balsamic vinegar which is always a plus for me when coming to a restaurant! I love when they serve bread on the house The calamari was amazing, definitely how I like it and not the way other chain restaurants make it. The pasta was soooo good and they definitely didn't hold out on the seafood. We came with a party of 6 and didn't allow splitting the bill, however if you do the math yourself and break down the bill... the server can charge you accordingly on the machine. Haha. Overall a solid spot, and reasonably casual compared to most of the surrounding restaurants. We came here for dinner, and the waitress was very helpful and did a great job. Food was solid, everything was good but probably not going to blow you away. For the price, it was fine. I got the gnocchi which was good, especially the rose sauce, and the rigatoni in vodka sauce was the table favourite. The tiramisu was solid too; only thing I didn't love was that the bread was served cold. The service didn't feel particularly rushed, but the servers were a bit too eager to take our plates away, continually coming back before we were done, which was a bit much. Otherwise it was a solid Italian spot with a good menu, especially the half bottles of wine. Not sure I would be too eager to come back, but it's a solid backup spot if everything else around is booked up and you need to get your pasta fix. read more

They are known for their Southern Italian cuisine and comfortable atmosphere. The menu is quite large and they have anything you'd want for Italian food. Starting off with the appys, we tried: 1. Calamari Fritti 2. Burrata 3. Steamed Mussels We found the calamari to be lightly battered and fried. It came with a side of cocktail sauce, and was a good sharing dish. The Burrata was definitely our favourite appy, per usual. It came with arugula on the bottom, with balsamic, cherry tomatoes and olive oil on top. We are huge Burrata lovers, and this dish did not disappoint!! The steamed mussels were also quite delicious, and came marinated in a spicy marinara sauce. We enjoyed dipping our table bread into the sauce, and wish we could have more. Moving on to the entrees, we had: 1. Linguini with clams 2. Fusilli con pollo 3. Strozzapreti alla Ernesto The linguini with clams was a white sauce pasta made with white wine, garlic and olive oil. To be honest, we felt this dish lacked flavour and we weren't too impressed with it. The fusilli con pollo came with a pesto cream sauce, mixed with mushrooms and chicken. We liked this pasta the most out of the three, and thought it was a good balance of flavours. The strozzapreti alla Ernesto was a red sauce pasta with spicy nduja sausages, rapini, cherry tomatoes mixed in a garlic and olive oil. This dish was decent, and the flavouring was there, but we still felt like it missed something. For dessert we tried their tiramisu, and it was delicious!! Absolutely delicious place for lunch in the city. Service was friendly and knowledgeable, and the menu definitely has something for everyone. We started with a fresh, delicious, tomato and onion salad with some blue cheese sprinkled on top - a great, fresh way to start lunch. Next, we had the rigatoni alla vodka, which was a perfect portion, cooked al dente, lightly tossed in a delicious pink sauce. Scrumptious. The veal on a bun was also a generous portion of breaded veal, done almost like a street sandwich, with grilled or sautéed onions and peppers on top and shoved in a soft hoagie roll. Delish! What's for lunch? I didn't feel like having what was prepared at work so I went for a walk, hoping to be inspired. My wandering took me through nearby Yorkville, where there are many restaurants. Surely, I can find something there. I came across Dimmi Bar & Trattoria and it looked interesting, with a patio in a pedestrian walkway. There were a few tables available so why not? I like Italian food. I was greeted and seated quickly and I ordered Spaghetti with Meatballs. Simple. It arrived fairly quickly and tasted pretty good, especially with freshly grated cheese on it. The meatballs were a bit on the smaller side but they tasted good. The pasta was cooked properly and the sauce was also very good. This was a good meal! Unfortunately, I won't be working in this area much longer but I'll try to drop in again for a meal before I leave. It was good. read more

This place is so big with lots of floors, lots of patio and rooms, the service is impeccable, and the food is absolutely amazing, cooked with live and passion. The chef was extremely gracious and came to the table, offering a variety of dishes. The atmosphere is unmatched with its beautiful lighting, and the surroundings are amazing. The food is all authentic, obviously home made and literally melts in your mouth. You can take family or a group of people and have a wonderful time. I I ordered a Pizza with double cheese and mushroom. It came with single, if your lucky, cheese and very uninspiring. The manager came by and noticed my dissatisfaction and immediately offered to replace it. It came back as ordered and I was very satisfied. Did not apologize, or make any amends. Looks a lot like a fingernail, though he didn't even inspect it. Also, the staff here don't wear masks, only the little plastic mouth shields. If you're too broke to go to Italy, you can pretend and come here INSTEAD! This place is snuggled in the boujee life that is Yorkville and my oh my does the decor show it. First off they have a beautiful patio surrounded by the stunning views, so I would highly suggest you call ahead for a reservation on the patio. (Unlike me, who only did a reservation). ordered the FUSILLI CON POLLO and it was so good. The only thing I would say is this dish they do pack on the pesto. So I would avoid this guy if you're looking at your calories! The portions are actually pretty big as well. From first glance it doesn't look like a lot but the fact that I turned down my friend's pizza slice, told me A LOT of my portion size. The only thing I would say was that I showed up for my reservation but my friends were half an hour late. During the 30 minutes, I was probably asked around 10 times if my friends were coming. Like lady please I have friends (albeit, not punctual ones). Granted definitely our fault for coming in late during a busy dinner period, but definitely felt a bit rushed from this perspective. All in all really good vibes. I would suggest coming here if you want to impress your date and pretend to be Italian. read more

Short and Sweet: The food was delicious, but the service was lacking. Long Story... Long: My friend and I both got the grilled calamari. It was delicious and well made. The calamari was a generous portion that fit the price. The service, however, ruined my visit a bit. We had multiple different waiters, which was confusing. The one towards the end, who had given us our bill was kind and attentive, but the others were rushed, asked the same questions/clarifications multiple times, and generally felt uncomfortable. I had asked for a balsamic reduction sauce for my order, if possible. I was told that it was, and the waiter came back with what looked like olive oil and balsamic vinegar together in a small container, which can actually be found on our table. I thought, "this is not what I meant, but no problem." I got charged 3 extra dollars for this, which I was both unaware of and unhappy about. Apparently they had added truffle oil, which in my experience is distinct and I can normally tell, but I could not in this instance. This is also where the added price came from. I would have preferred being warned that there would be an extra charge and that they couldn't do the balsamic reduction sauce in the first place. Otherwise, I did really like the dish, but the overall experience makes me want to pick another restaurant in the Yorkville area. read more

My personal favourite Italian restaurant in Toronto. Incredible food and just as importantly, great people. The owner and core people of this restaurant are amazing and so accommodating. The pastas are all incredible and considering the quality of the food, everything is very reasonably priced. The pizzas are great and light, easily can be split between 2 people along with 2 pastas. The cocktails (just like everything else here) are amazing. Definitely recommend trying out the summer specials! Pushin' P is so good and you can also get the summer cocktails bottled to go. Although the surroundings of a cellar-like space was nice, the overall pricey but subpar food, elementary plating/plates, and clumsy service was a let down especially in the Yorkville area. I ordered their fish special of the night: Swordfish with a Side Salad. It was expensive, but the portion was great and the fish cooked & seasoned well! The side salad was very basic but fresh, thankfully I had asked for the dressing on the side...especially since we previously ordered the Fried Calamari appetizer that came with some VERY greasy side salads. We ended our meal with some desserts, I tried their creme brûlée, but for $9.95 it was a rip off since the ramekin wasn't fully filled and the custard texture felt a little too whipped. If you're on a diet, you shouldn't even be looking at this place. You can have a water. This is a cute authentic Italian joint in Yorkville. It's small, dim and cute - giving it a really intimate and date-night worthy effect. The staff are very nice and service is perfect. The menu is the perfect size with your typical pizzas, pastas and hot sandwiches. I had the dimmi pizza, topped with grilled chicken+spinach+mozz. It's thin crust and cooked perfectly, you actually don't feel stuffed or sick eating it. The other pizzas looked soooo good too- the funghi one had truffle oil...DROOL! The pastas all looked good but none of them really came with any protein, so we didn't really bother with them. The salads also looked pretty plain for around the same price as a pizza, so I'd recommend just going for the pizza and being happier. It's pretty pricey for a regular night but honestly not too bad for Yorkville. I'd definitely come here again for some yums - it's such a sweet place to be spoiled. read more

Came here today for lunch with co-workers for a work event. One my co-worker who is Italian picked the place and she highly recommended gnocchi and risotto. I wasn't feeling very adventurous today so stuck with what I usually get Italian restaurants, the seafood fettuccine (Fettucine Alla Riviera). The noodles must have been house made, it was delicious and the sauce was so tasty. It also had lots of seafood including clams, mussels, scallops, squid and shrimp. The location is very central in Yorkville and a great place for friends get together and it also has a nice patio. I will definitely be coming back if I'm in the area. read more

Of course all of the shopping made us hungry. We walked up and down the street to find something to eat. We finally decided on Dimmi. I had a taste for pasta and thought this would be a good choice. It was pretty busy but there was no wait. The staff was very nice and accommodating. When we first got there my husband and I ordered drinks. He got a Old-Fashioned and I got a Sangria. He enjoyed his drink. My drink started off good but then started to taste like medicine the more I drank it. Needless to say I didn't finish it. We started our dinner with ordering the Kale as an appetizer. Of course this was a side salad. It consisted of shaved kale with pinenuts and cranberries covered with pecorino cheese in a lemon and olive oil dressing. This salad was very good. The flavors were nice and most of all I enjoyed the pinenuts. They added a nice crunch to the dish. For our entrees I ordered the STRO ZZAPRETI ALLA ERNESTO and my husband ordered the Roasted Chicken Breast. My dish consisted of spicy nduja sausage, rapini and cherry tomatoes in garlic and olive oil. This was something different for me but good. The sausage added a nice hint of heat but not too spicy. The pasta was good. It also had cherry tomatoes and spinach. I could have done without the spinach. I like spinach in salads or creamed spinach but I don't like plain cooked down spinach. The texture is odd in my opinion. Other than that this dish was good. My husband's dish came with vegetables and roasted potatoes. The chicken was pretty tender but flavorless. The whole plate was flavorless for that matter. It was very bland and needed seasoning. My husband ate it but he wasn't thrilled. Last, we ended our meal with a dessert. We ordered the Apple Crumble. It came out in a slice but instead of pie crust topping it had a crumble topping. It came with a scoop of ice cream. This dish was decent. It was pretty tasty. Standard Italian restaurant menu so everyone would definitely find something that they enjoy.... 3 of us ended up sharing: Baby Spinach and Walnut Salad ($14.95) in a honey balsamic vinaigrette with roasted walnuts, blue cheese, and candied fruit was delightful. It is hard to believe but this was the best part of my lunch. Fettucine Alla Riviera ($19.95) With shrimps, scallops, mussels, clams and calamari with a really really light tomato sauce... a little too light maybe? Portion is really small...definitely not good for sharing! I can eat 2 of those..... Diavola ($14.95) Pizza with tomato sauce, mozzarella and spicy homemade Italian sausage... My Yelp friend who is a spice lover was draw to that when he said SPICY!... but definitely that's not too much heat but plenty of sodium.... now I am a feeling that I am going to stick with veggie or plain options for pizza toppings from now on... Service is lukewarm and rush as the staffs were busy serving the lunch crowds.... I think I would give Dimmi a pass... The servers were so rude and after waiting half an hour for hot sauce, she grabbed me 2 drops and when i asked to talk to manager, he was unbelievably rude. He started yelling and screaming at me and asked me to pay for my food and leave. Apparently, the manager has no idea how to treat customers. No idea at all WORST EVER. I was craving risotto so my boyfriend and I decided to try this place out. We sat on the covered patio, which gave a nice ambiance. I feel like this was luck too. We had called in advance to make a somewhat last minute reservation. We were told it would be no problem and provided our name. When we arrived, however, no reservation. Their reservation system is just names on a piece of paper that someone carries in their hand. A system I don't really like b/c it has happened before that my reservations have been lost at other restaurants when they have the same system. Fortunately, we were able to catch a spot on the covered patio and were lucky the rain had just stopped. We shared the shrimp risotto to start. It was a large portion, and we didn't want to fill up before the meal, so I took the rest home. For the mains we had pasta special - lobster fettucine in a red sauce. All in all, the service was good and the food was tasty, but there's nothing that really stood out as being off the charts. I would go back though and would recommend it to others. read more

Food was excellent!!! We ordered a margherita and capo pizza - the sauce was incredible and the crust was literal perfection!! We then ordered the gnocchi, agnolotti and pesto cream pasta. Let's just say that the table got real quiet because we were too busy eating!! We then finished with the tiramisu, creme brulee and a pecan pie for dessert. All three were super delicious. Tiramisu seemed to be made in house, super moist. Creme brulee had a hint of cinnamon with a perfect glassy surface of sugar. And the pecan pie was warm and decadent, almost resembling a brownie. Decided to try this place out on a Saturday evening and we had no regrets. This place was just great from its food to the service! We ordered the calamari fritti for an appetizer, the rigatoni al gargonzola and the fettuccine alla riviera. Portions were decent. The calamari was good, it also came with a little side salad on the plate. However if we didn't get an appetizer, we would have been still hungry after the entrees. The entrees were just so delicious, sauces were extra creamy and the pasta was cooked perfectly. Each dish was about $20+ which was a little bit expensive. If there was a little bit more on the plate, that would top it all off. The service was great as well. We noticed that though we had a server for our table, a lot of the other staff came to cater to us and check in. It was nice not having to rely on our own server, which is how it usually is at other restaurants. About 5-6 people checked in with us, helped us with our bill, delivered our food, gave us more water, etc. It was a team experience for them and we appreciated that. Overall, we had a pleasant experience. The only single reason why it wasn't a 5 star was because there were so many fruit flies flying around. It interrupted our meals many times and also for other people who were dining around us. It was really irritating to try to take a bite and having to swat a fruit fly from my face.
