Located within the Inn at the Opera, Dingles is a dark, cozy English pub with beautiful decor and a perfect spot for a night out. The street-side seating offers a great view of the Capitol Building. A traditional English pub is known for cheap drinks and large portions; this is the SF version with high-quality food at SF prices. The Guinness and Old Speckled Hen are both excellent pours. We started with the scotch egg and sausage roll, which were the highlights of the night. Well-seasoned and delicious, they are something I would order again without hesitation. For mains, we had the fish and chips and the Sunday roast. The fish and chips featured perfectly fried, thick-cut fries and local lingcod. The roast was excellent, served with Yorkshire pudding. Portions were on the smaller side compared to what you'd expect from a traditional pub, but everything was very good. Service was great throughout.

Came here for a fun Sunday roast lunch with a friend. Very cute inside (with that upscale English restaurant vibe), inside the lobby of the hotel. Service was great and friendly. Street parking around the area, but did have to circle a bit and ended up parking a bit further away (but easy walk). The breakfast martini, scotch egg, and sticky toffee pudding were delicious! The beef was good. Would come back if I were craving that old British vibe!

Dingles is a must! This is the without a doubt, the best English gastropub in SF. The service is top tier. The entire wait staff moves with grace, and cat like stealthiness. Your glasses are kept filled, the table cleared, and you will be impressed with the impeccable timing of food service. We opted for chips as an appetizer. It's listed under extras. They were crisp, lightly seasoned, and just what you want from a crisp. The ketchup is served cold ( bonus points), along with a Dijon/Mayo dipping sauce. Just perfection. We opted for the Sunday roast ( only available on Sundays ) It's 8oz of perfectly roasted beef, that is lightly seasoned. The sides are baby carrots, sautéed/braised cabbage in a reduced wine sauce, roasted potatoes, and a generous serving of Yorkshire pudding. The sides of creamy horseradish and gravy are delish. Yes, the gravy is a little saltier, but it blends out the light seasoning of the roast, which is exactly what you want. Poor little bit of this goodness over your roast, and a little over your Yorkshire pudding, it's a bite of heaven. We added a slice de of cauliflower cheese. THIS is AHMAZING!! It's like mac & cheese, but with cauliflower. It's cheesy, creamy, and one side is not enough to share. This is everything you want it to be, and exponentially better! What's a great dinner without dessert? While the menu is limited, you want the sticky toffee pudding. It's lighter than you'd expect, the sauce is delish, and the burnt butter ice cream is creamy, subtly sweet goodness. I love the interior. It's classic British with a beautiful dark green and floral interior, with mallard ducks here and there, including on the plates. Reservations are a must. It's definitely a must try!

Came here on a Sunday after booking through Tock specifically for the Sunday roast and fish and chips, and both completely delivered. The roast was super flavorful and tender, with rich gravy and all the comforting flavors you want from a proper British pub meal. The fish and chips were honestly some of the best I've had in America, the fish tasted incredibly fresh, the batter was crispy and light, and the fries were spot on. What surprised me the most though was the rarebit. That ended up being my favorite dish of the meal. It was insanely cheesy with so much depth of flavor and richness without feeling too heavy. Definitely not something I expected to stand out so much, but I'd come back just for that alone. The service was spectacular from start to finish everyone was warm, attentive, and made the whole experience feel welcoming without being overbearing. Combined with the cozy pub atmosphere and thoughtfully prepared food, this is definitely a spot I'd recommend if you're craving authentic British comfort food.

3.5 stars. The restaurant is quite dark when you walk in. I prefer to dine in restaurants with a bit more lighting even though the dimming is for ambiance. We specifically came for Sunday roast, which was fabulous when we had it at a London restaurant. There were 4 choices for entrees and one of them was vegetarian with cabbage. 2 of us ordered the pork belly, 2 slices of pork wax really crispy on the crust and good tasting. The other 2 ordered the roast beef. It came with a large Yorkshire pudding which tasted bland to me. The roast beef was OK. I couldn't finish it and took it home, that piece was chewy and I had to spit out several different pieces because I chewed and chewed and it either was too chewy or had firm muscle fibers in it and was too hard to chew. I ended up spitting them out. The roasted baby carrots were good but didn't like the other veggie as much. I did order a Scotch egg and it was cooked perfectly but the sauce served with it had too much spice. Service was nice. We didn't order dessert. There was no pot pie on the menu. We will have to return for the pot pie.

This was such a cute spot for date night!! The must-get dishes for me were the sausage roll and the fish and chips. The sausage roll was perfectly seasoned and had a nice flaky pastry exterior. The fish and chips were nice and crisp, and came out piping hot. Even the fish by itself was perfectly cooked. I do wish they warmed up their plates more though! Don't forget to save room for dessert for the sticky toffee pudding. A little too sweet for me but still hit the spot. Service was very attentive! They refilled our water often. I'll be back (not on Sunday roast day) to try more items.

My sister's boyfriend raves about this place all the time, so we finally rallied the family to make a trek out here to see what the hubbah was all about! Parking in the area around Hayes Valley can be competitive but not impossible. It's a block away from City Hall and located on the first floor of a hotel. Our server was very nice and walked us through the menu. My sister was interested in the lamb dish that they served the last time she was there - apparently that was a one time thing. Their main menu otherwise is pretty straight forward with 3-5 entrees. I tried the Sunday Roast (with Pork Belly), and got to try the Fish and Chips from my brother's plate. Everything was cooked to perfection - the fish and chips were crisp without being too heavy (on par with Hook in the outer sunset!) and their chips were nicely fried. The Sunday roast was also roasted very well, with the vegetables being very tender and the meat being juicy AND crispy. We also shared a sticky toffee pudding - the sister's boyfriend saying it's better than the one he tried in at Gordon Ramsey's in London! I was worried that I'd be too full to enjoy it, but on the contrary. The toffee pudding base is made with dates and although it is sweet (duh, toffee), it's not sickeningly-so.

Tucked behind velvet curtains in Civic Center, Dingles Public House feels like stepping into a polished London pub--moody lighting, deep green walls, and just enough theatrical charm to make a pint feel essential. It's a rare thing in San Francisco: a place fully committed to British comfort food, executed with care rather than gimmick. But the real reason to come? Two classics done right: fish & chips and the scotch egg. Fish & Chips This is the kind of plate that reminds you why the dish became iconic in the first place. The cod is flaky and moist, wrapped in a beer batter that strikes the right balance--crisp without feeling heavy or greasy. The chips lean properly British: thick-cut, soft-centered, and built for soaking up malt vinegar. What elevates it is the full spread--tartare, curry sauce, and mushy peas--giving you multiple ways to work through each bite. It may not reinvent the dish, but it doesn't need to--it's comforting, well-executed, and exactly what you want from a proper pub plate. I'm still dreaming of this dish and cannot wait to come back for more. Scotch Egg If there's a must-order here, it's this. The scotch egg arrives with a crisp, golden exterior giving way to a perfectly soft, just-set yolk--rich, savory, and deeply satisfying. The house-made sausage wrap adds a layer of spiced depth, while a touch of acidity (often from pickles or sauce) cuts through the richness beautifully. It's the kind of dish you instinctively order "for the table"... and then quietly wish you didn't have to share.

Moody restaurant right by Civic Center located inside of a hotel. Lighting and ambiance are perfect for a night out with a lover or a mellow night out with friends. Sticky toffee pudding: 9/10, warm and gooey with vanilla ice cream to temper the sweetness Chicken Kyiv: 9/10, served piping hot and bursting with flavor although was a bit small for the price! Meat Pie: 8/10, best part was the mashed potato tbh. Very standard meat pie

The wait for reservation is worth it. Now we only waited about two weeks after they dropped the new reservations. We had a late reservation which I prefer. Upon entering the restaurant the staff immediately greets you warm and welcoming. They set us down near the back right of the restaurant. The inside is very dim and moody. I love it. The dark colors and low lights give such a good vibe. Our server was very kind, super chill and really nice. We had a couple drinks and a few dishes. The food is delicious. A bit pricey but really good. Overall I would recommend waiting for a reservation. The food is great, the staff are really cool and the vibe is really nice inside.

First off, the food was amazing. I think these are the best fish and chips I've had and I've had a lot. The curry sauce, tartar sauces and smashed peas were great. The meat pie was tender flaky and packed with flavor. The burger was perfectly cooked and delicious- it sort of looked small but was filling. I loved the sausage roll and scotch egg - both elevated and authentic strangely enough. Strangely the dish I was most impressed with was the cabbage. It was wet savory uncutous and rich. The mustard sauce was complex without being overpowering- the natural sweetness of the cabbage really showed through. The service was mostly ok - big delay between our apps and entrees. Attentive and good otherwise. Would take off half star for that but the food was good enough to where I'm still rounding to a 5 Dingles is kind of hard to classify, the food said casual pub, but the prices and quality was definitely elevated. It is an excellent date spot, not too loud but not so quiet everyone can listen in to you. I'd definitely go back!

Made a reservation online a couple weeks out for a Sunday night dinner! The restaurant has a charming old school vibe with British pub charm. It has a dark and cozy atmosphere. They have a special menu on Sundays with most of the mains being a classic British Sunday roast dinner. Outside of that, they also serve fish & chips as an entree but they won't have their normal entrees like the burger, chicken kiev, or meat pie. We ordered a scotch egg to start. It came out pipping hot and freshly fried. The egg was perfectly soft boiled. Tasted just like the ones I've had in London! For the mains, we got the roast beef Sunday roast dinner and the fish & chips. They were both delicious. The roast beef was tender and came with some tasty vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. The gravy it came with was savory and brought everything together. The fish & chips were amazing! The fish was fresh and the batter was light and crisp. The chips/french fries were some of the best I've had. It also went great with the tartar sauce and curry sauce. For dessert, we had to get the sticky toffee pudding! It did not disappoint, it was served warm and was topped with ice cream. Great way to end the meal. The servers were very attentive and nice. It did take a while for the first dish to come out but the food was worth the wait. Overall it was a fun restaurant to try and I would come back!

Dingles was such a pleasant surprise. One of those places I would absolutely go out of my way for. The space is beautiful. Dimly lit, cozy, and really chic. It is tucked inside the hotel by the opera and feels perfect for a date night or a long dinner with friends before a show. We ordered a pretty insane spread and every single thing was good. The scotch eggs had that perfect jammy center and really flavorful sausage. The Welsh rarebit was rich and comforting with deep cheddar flavor. But the sausage roll completely stole the show. The pastry was insanely flaky and the filling was juicy and savory. One of those bites where everyone at the table pauses for a second. The mains were just as strong. The beef and Guinness pie was surprisingly delicious, especially with the bone marrow which added this amazing fatty richness and depth. The burger was exactly what you want from a great burger. Juicy, simple, and perfectly done. The fish and chips were excellent too, super crispy batter with malt vinegar on the side which made it even better. And the chicken Kyiv was fantastic. Really tender with garlic parsley butter running through it. We finished with both desserts and they were worth it. The sticky toffee pudding with brown butter ice cream was warm, rich, and exactly what you hope for. Also worth knowing they do a proper Sunday roast which I now very much want to come back for. I've also heard Wednesdays are their pie night, which honestly sounds like the perfect excuse to return. Definitely add this to your list.

I'm currently living in San Francisco for six weeks while caring for my father, who is recovering from a double lung transplant at UCSF. It's been an emotionally exhausting time, and I was excited to find a neighborhood bar within walking distance where I could occasionally relax and decompress. I first discovered this bar after a trip to Trader Joe's. During that visit, the bartenders, especially Chris, and the rest of the staff were welcoming, friendly, attentive, and wonderful. Based on that experience, I was looking forward to returning. Unfortunately, my interactions with the owner have been the complete opposite. On my second visit, the owner repeatedly ignored me while I was trying to order. When he noticed my service dog, who was leashed, quietly sitting beside me, and causing absolutely no disruption, he loudly yelled across a crowded bar, "Get your dog out of here." I calmly explained that he is a service dog. The owner immediately rolled his eyes and demanded to know what service my dog provides. Because I did not feel comfortable disclosing personal medical information to a room full of strangers, I asked if I could privately show documentation instead. He became increasingly hostile, telling me that he "knew his rights" and that I "didn't know anything," while continuing to demand an explanation. Feeling embarrassed and cornered, I reluctantly answered his question. He rolled his eyes again and asked, "What do you want?" When I ordered a Corona, he responded by pointing his finger in my face and saying, "You mean you want a Corona PLEASE." He refused to serve me unless I repeated the order exactly as he demanded. I was shocked, humiliated, and left the bar in tears. Several patrons nearby apologized to me and expressed how uncomfortable they were witnessing the interaction. A few days later, I decided to give the bar a second chance and brought my partner with me. My partner was seated with my service dog while I walked to the bar to order. The owner immediately recognized me and once again said, "Get your dog out." I calmly reminded him that we had already had this conversation and that I had previously explained my dog's service role. He responded by asking whether I was providing a service to the dog or whether the dog was providing a service to me. After I again explained the situation, he asked what I wanted to order. I ordered two dirty gin martinis, and before I could even finish speaking, he began walking away. When he returned with the check, I asked him to keep the tab open. He again corrected me and said I needed to say, "Keep it open PLEASE." At that point, I asked why he seemed to treat me this way every time I came in. His response was, "Piss off. Finish your martini and you're never allowed back here again. Get out." Once again, I left in tears. Once again, nearby patrons appeared shocked by the way I was being treated. I've worked in professional environments my entire career and strive to treat everyone with kindness, patience, and respect. I was never rude, disruptive, or confrontational. I simply wanted to enjoy a drink at a neighborhood bar while accompanied by my service dog. The bartenders and staff were wonderful. My experience with the owner, however, was one of the most humiliating and hostile customer service experiences I have ever had.
