Probably one of the best Italian and pasta place I've been to so far in SF! I came for $1 happy hour oysters and stayed for the pasta and dessert. We got seated at the bar since we didn't have a reservation but it was perfect! We got the oysters, house white wine and tartare to share! Everything was perfect and fresh. Then, we got the braised short rib cappellacci and drunken mafaldine to share. The braised short rib was so soft and perfect. Then we got the tiramisu (5/5) and goat cheese yogurt (3/5 - just not to my preference. I will come back again to try more of the menu as the pasta dishes were amazing!

The pasta was the star of the show. The appetizer budino is also a must try. The service was good and Ambience was fun. I would totally go again!!!

Passed this place so many times finally checked it out. Oysters Drew us in for happy hour and they were lightly seasoned and so good! Then when with the lobster lasagna, budino, anchovy crostini, and tartare. The lasagna was different than your typical lasagna and it almost tasted like a crab texture inside. The budino was custardy, to be expected. My faves were actually the tartare and crostini. The drinks were also fabulous, the mezcal Paloma, and frantelli were both obviously mezcal and for a girl who loves mezcal..chefs kiss! Overall cute spot on Polk, def would come back for happy hour!

Wonderful spot on Polk. We enjoyed everything we ordered, and appreciated that the drinks came pretty strong (neither of us even finished). In particular the pasta dishes were strong - really fresh, flavorful, and clearly made well. Service was pretty good, relatively attentive. The overall experience was very pleasant and we will definitely be back.

I've only come for happy hour (at the bar only) but it's a great deal. 6 max 1$ oysters pre-seasoned with mignotte and the anchovy toast were so delicious. They have additional food items like croquettes and veal tartare too that looked good for next time. Friendly bartenders and there's wine, beer and cocktails on the happy hour list. We got 8$ house wine glasses - half off wine bottles too. Great ambience for an early happy hour!

We had a reservation that was ready for us when we arrived. Our server was really nice. My french 75 was not made well unfortunately. My friend's cocktails were a bit of a miss for them too but they ordered from the menu. The food was great! The focaccia, the brussels sprouts and all of our pastas. We cleared every plate! I really loved that it was a calm atmosphere so we could talk to each other at the table and hear well. It's also really cute aesthetic inside.

Fantastic food & cocktails with great service at the bar. Agnolotti del plin is not to be missed.

This is my third visit to Sorella, and I was so blown away I decided to write a second review! from the moment I stepped in the door, I was overwhelmed by a sense of sincere friendliness and care. The host was so sweet, and didn't hesitate to lay out our seating options for the night. We opted to sit at the bar, since we initially came for a glass of wine. Parker and Rochelle were the kindest bartenders ever. Despite feeling underdressed, they made us feel extremely welcomed. We ended up trying two pastas, both were fabulous. I can't wait to have their seasonal pumpkin caramelle again. It was so good, we had to order their housemade foccaia to soak up the sauce. The cocktails beautifully mirrored the newly strung christmas decorations. It truly felt like a break from reality. I plan on coming again soon. Shoutout to Fernanda, the talented head chef who we were lucky enough to meet, and Kelsey, the assistant manager who explained each pasta and helped us navigate the beverage selection.

Sorella continues to be one of our favorite modern Italian spots in the city. This was our second visit, and somehow it felt even better than the first. Huge thank you to Brandon and Chef Fernanda Baggio for the warm, exceptional hospitality. We started with fresh, briny oysters that had a clean, crisp finish and set the tone for the night. The meatballs were incredibly moist and flavorful, while the stuffed calamari was tender, beautifully seasoned, and one of the quiet highlights of the meal. The pastas are where Sorella really shines. The yellow sweet corn agnolotti was bright, silky, and naturally sweet. The kabocha and butternut squash pasta arrived glazed in brown butter and balsamic with Grana Padano that is rich, comforting, and wonderfully balanced. The potato gnocchi with duck bolognese was pure comfort food, with pillowy gnocchi soaking up every bit of the deep, savory sauce. And the lobster and prawn lasagna was simply outstanding, with delicate layers of sweet seafood and a finish that made it feel special. The cocktail program is equally thoughtful. Every drink was balanced, well-crafted, and added an elevated touch to the experience. Sorella blends the soul of fine dining with the warmth of a neighborhood restaurant. From the hospitality to the execution of every dish, everything feels intentional but never stiff or overly formal. We're already looking forward to our next visit for both our favorite staples and whatever new creations the team dreams up next.

We had a very good meal here! The food came out hot, fresh and fast. The staff were funny, friendly & charming! The ambiance was simple, modern and moody in a great way. The food was unique they put a lil twist on classics. The most amazing seasonal pasta we had in a long time! It a 4.5 /5 on the food and a 5/5 for everything else! Go try it out for yourself

I absolutely adore this spot. Initially the service wasn't amazing from the hostess, she gave us some attitude and seemed annoyed since we wanted to sit at the bar to enjoy a bit of happy hour before sitting down. But the rest of the staff, including the bartender were nice and very helpful. Cocktail menu - they have a delicious house spritz and their espresso martini is absolutely peak! I do notice from separate visits it tastes a bit different depending on who makes your drink. It would be nice to have some more consistency there. I'd advise against the risotto martini. Although I am in love with the concept, it doesn't give risotto at all. It tastes like a regular dry martini with some additional herbal notes. For HH you can get 50% off for wine, so definitely a recommended spot if you're looking for something cheaper! They also have the most incredible HH $1 oysters. You'll have to be quick though! It's until they sell out and their selection is limited. All the dishes are absolutely delicious AND stunning. The best lobster lasagna I've had. Their sauce was unctuous and had a perfect amount of acidity to match the richness. The pork was incredibly moist and flavorful, great for sharing with the table. The pasta dishes are all stellar, I'd recommend the beef cheeks and stuffed pasta. For dessert, the tiramisu was my favorite. The affogato is a good second if you haven't already had 1 too many espresso martinis. Another negative thing I'd note is that when the sun is lower if you're sitting facing the direction of it, you will be blinded by it. Their blinds are sheer.

Recommend to visit during happy hour. Oyster and house wine deal is great and pasta was a bit salty but overall experience was great. It's pretty full but service was great as bartender who took the order and make drinks was friendly and easy to talk to. Great vibe with italian food and full bar.

We had dinner here a few months back, and it was a great experience from start to finish. The space has a cool, modern vibe--stylish without trying too hard--and the atmosphere felt lively but not too loud. We ordered the tuna crudo, veal agnolotti, and lamb chop, along with a bottle of wine, and everything hit the mark. The crudo was super fresh and light--great way to start. The veal agnolotti was probably our favorite dish of the night--rich, comforting, and full of flavor. The lamb chop was cooked just right and had a really nice balance with whatever sauce they had going on. Service was easygoing and helpful, and the pacing of the meal was spot on. It felt like the kind of place you could go for a nice date night or a chill dinner with friends and still get quality food and wine without it being too formal.

    Is there a dress code?

There is no formal code AFAIK. The atmosphere is pretty informal, so a wide range of clothes can be seen. The medium of what I have observed is business casual.

    Are there vegetarian options?

Yes. You should be able to see some of the options in the Photos (Menu) section here.

Do you take walk ins or is it reservation only?

They take walk ins but don't be that arse that shows up at 7 on a Friday and expect to get seated.

While we were outside, we made friendly conversation with a bartender. I overheard another bartender come out for a cigarette and call him by name, so I jokingly used his name while asking if we could come in. At that point, the bartender became extremely aggressive, got in my face, and said, "Say his name one more f*cking time," repeatedly. I was genuinely confused and asked what she meant. Shortly after, a friend who was already inside came out simply to check on us and see why we were still outside. The bartender then told her to "get the f*ck out of my face" and instructed staff not to let her or us in, even though my friend hadn't done anything wrong. It was so confusing and extremely inappropriate. The behavior was unnecessarily hostile and disrespectful. It was founded by Anton "Tony" Nikitovich and quickly became a gathering place for the neighborhood's Italian and Croatian communities, where people came to swap stories, argue politics, and enjoy a stiff drink after a long day. And honestly, that tradition carried on well into the years when many of us became regulars. I hadn't been back for a few years until recently, when I decided to stop in again. The bar wasn't overly busy, but a handful of neighborhood folks were sitting at the counter, trading stories over their drinks. It felt instantly familiar. Not much has changed since the early 2000s when I used to come here regularly, and that's exactly what makes Tony Nik's special. Step inside, and it still feels like a mid-century film set: tufted leather seating, a long wooden bar that's seen nearly a century of San Francisco history, and that iconic neon sign glowing outside. While much of the city has reinvented itself again and again, Tony Nik's somehow held onto its soul. It's a grown-up bar without being stuffy, no loud club music, no trendy gimmicks, just well-made cocktails, a classic jukebox, and an atmosphere that feels earned rather than manufactured. The bar stayed in the Nikitovich family for decades, and the current owners were wise enough to preserve both the name and the vintage character Tony originally created. It's one of those rare places that reminds you what North Beach used to be, and, thankfully, still is.
