I was a customer here for many years in the past and decided to come back recently because my wife--who usually cuts my hair--wasn't available. Unfortunately, this visit was very disappointing. After paying for haircuts for both myself and my son, one of the barbers (the big one, 1-2 stations down from the Korean barber on the right) loudly called out as I was leaving that I had "forgotten to leave a tip." That's completely inappropriate. Tipping is optional, not mandatory, and calling out a customer publicly is unprofessional and uncomfortable. I ended up leaving a small tip just to avoid further awkwardness, which should never be the case. It's unfortunate, because experiences like this overshadow everything else. I have been going to Dinos since the 1970s. First Aspen Hill and now Olney. Dino is long since retired but there are still family members in the Olney location. I occasionally have visited other barber shops but I keep coming back to Dinos. Are they perfect? No but they are pretty darn good and the folks who work there are good people in my book. read more

I came in with the man because he wanted a haircut and beard trim. He's been here before but I've never waited inside for him. I was kind of disgusted by what I saw. The woman at the reception desk spent the whole of my time there cracking sunflower seeds (or something similar that she kept putting in her mouth and cracking down on). The floor was covered in the hair clippings of what looked like a combination of all of the morning's customers. As I type this, someone is walking around sweeping up under customers' feet while the barbers are cutting hair. Looking around, all of the customers are men; maybe there's a lower standard for barber shops for men than for women's salons, and this is typical. I'm not sure. I AM sure I would never get MY hair cut here. Three stars instead on one because the man really likes Sophia and he'll only see her. read more

Our favorite local barber! Since we moved to Olney, my husband and my 5-year-old son have come every two weeks for haircuts. At first, my son goes to whoever is available at that time. But my husband goes to Duc. So now, my son also waits for Duc whenever he's available. Duc does a good haircut, my husband and my son's like how he fades the sides and back. He takes his time to cut and make it nice. And he's open to suggestions when we think my son needs more cut than usual. My son always naps when Duc cuts his hair that's how good he is. Sometimes, we take my 6-year-old daughter to have trim with another lady hairstylist. My kids are excited after their haircuts because they get lollipops. The place isn't big but it's clean and bright. It has few chairs in the waiting area. They follow covid-19 protocols. Everyone wears a mask and provides hand sanitizer on the counter. Since the weather has been nice lately, they open the front door for air circulation. The prices for haircuts are reasonable. The only downfall is you have to bring cash for tips. But we are still happy we found a great barber in the area. We don't need to drive far anymore. read more

Dino's is great! And my stylist , Sophia has been doing my hair for years. Always personable and attentive.

Took my teenage so for a much needed haircut. He has great hair but definitely too long for his parents taste, and for his school. It's medium length and curly at the ends but it was getting unruly. He loves the curls. So I knew we needed an expert who could get the cut done without cutting off all the curls, thereby breaking my son's heart. We found our expert - Liza. She got the job done, she trimmed his hair and made it look more controlled. It definitely wasn't as short as mom and dad wanted, but she caught my drift when explaining that we needed the cut and wanted to keep my son tolerant of future haircuts. What Liza did was ensure that my son would trust her for future cuts and manage to help him keep his great hair but trimmed up. Next trip, which should be in about a month(only possible because of her great work on the first go around), we will ask to go a little shorter and still keep the style my son likes. This could be the beginning of something very beautiful. Thank you Liza. Looking forward to getting my own haircut w Duc. Not too busy for early on a Saturday morning and that was about the only positive or should have served as a warning. Immediately seated. Barber asked how I wanted my hair cut. I told him and he proceeds to cut my hair with flurry and flourish and when he's done, asks what I think and I point out the two sides are longer than the top and it makes my head look uneven. He proceeds to get upset with me and tell me I should've told him in the first place I wanted it shorter and then proceeds to shorten everything, including the top. When he says he's done, I just say it's fine so I can leave and he makes some remark about I must not get my hair cut very often because I don't communicate with barbers very well. Then, I notice my partner got the exact same haircut from a totally different barber, which begs the question why ask the customer what they want if all the barbers just cut everyone's hair the same.? Then, on top of that, it was like a $25 haircut, each. I'll go back to the base and pay $15 for a quick trimmer clip than ever go back to this place again. Unprofessional and overpriced. read more

Many years ago, there was a Master Barber by the name of Sam. He operated at the corner of Prince George's Avenue and Route 1 in Beltsville for over 40 years. When he retired, I searched for almost a year before finding George, who was also a Master Barber; he operated out of a shop in North Gate Plaza near Gates of Heaven Cemetery. He too eventually retired, and again I searched for a Master Barber. While doing a few errands in Olney, I stopped in Dino's, because I saw them from the other side of the parking lot. When I walked in, I breathed a sigh of relief when I met the people there. They understood that I wanted my hair cut by a Master Barber, and no one else. To my delight, this location has several on staff who are Licensed Master Barbers; so if you get there and Liza isn't available, you can still get a proper haircut that helps you look your best. They do all the little things, like shaving your neckline, trimming your moustache, and even clipping those unruly eyebrows! Most of the regulars have a favorite Master Barber, because these people quickly become your friends, and they know their regulars by name. That's old school on all fronts: 1. They know you by name, and treat you with respect and courtesy. 2. They know what you want, and take their time to make you look your best. 3. They try to keep the waiting to a minimum, and the store is kept clean. 4. They behave very professionally, and are like a big family working together. There was a time a while back when my one sister donated her hair in honor of my other sister (who had Stage IV small-cell carcinoma), and Sun handled the situation with great respect, and was very sweet to my sister. She understood what a sacrifice it was to lose her hair all at once. This is just one of many stories customers will tell you that illustrate what all I have written is meant to describe. Dino's is where you should be going for your haircut. Liza, you are my Master Barber (until you retire, which I hope is not for years); there is no higher compliment anyone can offer than to pledge future patronage. Dino's has been my go-to barbershop for the better part of 15 years. I've always been more than satisfied with their cuts, and apparently a lot of others have, too! I see the same stylists today that I did 15 years ago. It's common to find a cuttery with one or two barbers than have been in for the long haul, but to have 5 or 6?? Well organized amazing barber shop ! My Boyfriend came in for a shape up and we tried so many other places around aspen hill. He kept coming home cut up , uneven cuts from other places . Not Here ! Duc was amazing and attentive and gave him a great shape up. He even covered areas my boyfriend didn't want shown. Everyone was also polite in order , good mannerisms and fair while waiting in line. Dino's has been my barber ever since my dad first took me nearly 30 years ago. Most of their barbers have been their for years and recognize you by face and remember my haircut even if they weren't the last one to cut my hair. Jimmy, Ninh, Tanya, Tom and even Phil (when he's there) are the best. I moved to Frederick about a year ago and still make the trip down to Olney just to have them cut my hair. I've been to Dino's twice. The first time was a few years ago and then I tried again today when my usual place was closed. Both times I was with Liza and please be warned. She does not know how to cut hair. First time I asked for an all around trim, I ended up getting an uneven haircut that was completely crooked in the front. Today I gave her a picture to use and she cut my hair so short to the point where it looks like it was buzzed. Nothing like the picture. You may find success with the other barbers at that shop but I guarantee you if you have Liza cut your hair you'll be regretting it for the next several weeks. read more

I have never complained online before. But, I created this yelp account just because of this terrible experience. The directions were clear: "not too short" and she held the comb with the long hair in it at the brow line and we nodded in agreement that the hair would be cut to my son's brow line. My son had fairly long hair going in and just wanted a trim. I said he had interviews tomorrow so it should be a trim - not something that the hair would have to grow into. The hair was about 6 inches long before, and now is not even one inch. This is NOT my son's look, NOT what we agreed to. She cut it VERY SHORT as if we had said nothing!!!!! And, it is not even a good cut!!! We would have been better off not going at all. read more

Look, I really wanted to give this place a good review. I got my haircut here 12/26 and 3/13 and both times it's been a disaster I've had to get fixed elsewhere. Maybe I'm unlucky, but it's going to take a few weeks for this last experience to right itself. The dude faded my hair wayyyyyy too high without blending it AT ALL and then it was uneven on the combed over side. I went and got it fixed, and it honestly just the made the problem worse.
