The pulled pork I had was tender, but absolutely covered in barbecue sauce. For me, a little bit of barbecue sauce goes a long way. I also tried the jalapeño cheddar sausage. It was good, but also covered in sauce and pickles. The sauces were not necessary, in my opinion. I ordered the Mac and cheese and chili for sides. The chili was delicious! The Mac and cheese was too bland and soft. It lacked real cheese. My husband had the same things I did, along with the brisket and enjoyed all of it. What a cool spot!! The river front location gives you a great view of the city, and the picnic tables and upstairs provide plenty of seating options. It's like an enormous log cabin gastropub with great music to match As for the food, these were by far the best wings I've had. We had the honey bbq and k-pow and they were both phenomenally good. Same with the sliders. We also got a mojito and some kind of cherry limeade drink - brilliantly flavorful and very strong!! Our server and hostess were both patient and kind. We've been coming here for years, and it's always a great time! I used to work nearby, and every morning you could smell the woodsmoke. You still can. There's something very authentic about this location, even, not like the other ones in this regional string of bbq joints, something that feels like love for the whole picture. A long time ago, in the Gilded Age, the railroad went right through the center of downtown. Right next to it was the Erie Canal, which went up about a block and crossed the river on the Aqueduct. At some point the canal was modified so that it bypassed downtown, and the railroad was ripped out. What eventually remained was the railway station over an abandoned subway line. That's where the Dino is now, overlooking one of the Genesee River flood control dams. Think on it as you nosh fall-off-the-bone ribs, perfectly-cooked brisket, dynamite deviled eggs, authentic shrimp po-boys, the best mac'n'cheese in town, killer bbq wings, or a pile of smokey pulled pork. A friend and I came here around 1:00pm on a Saturday for lunch and, of course, had to hunt around for a spot to park, as the street parking in front was full! Thankfully we found a parking garage a block away and were able to park for free! Upon walking in, the place was bustling but somehow, we were able to get a table right away! The atmosphere in here is a lot of fun and a little loud without being overbearing. Our waitress was fantastic! She was easy-going, very friendly, and conscientious about letting us look over the menu and such. Both of us ordered a beer (the Dinosaur Ape Hanger was really good!) and perused the menu. For lunch, I ended up ordering their Original BBQ Brisket sandwich with their daily special side: rice, red beans, and brisket. This sandwich was topped with pickled onions, jalapeno relish, and horseradish mayo. This sandwich was delicious! The brisket was so tender and had a great smoky flavor. Definitely one of the better briskets I've had and I've been to Kansas City, Austin, and St. Louis! The roll it was on was incredibly soft. The specialty side was great too. It had a little spiciness to it and served as a great way to test out the various hot sauces and BBQ sauces. The portion was perfect for a late lunch as I walked away perfectly satiated. The price for the sandwich and one side was pretty reasonable too. Dinosaur BBQ knows how to do good BBQ, especially for here in Western NY. I'd love to tell you more about the brisket, but for some reason they decided that my to-go 3 meat order should okay come with 2 meats. They still charged me for all 3, though. For $40 in Memphis or Texas--places renown for BBQ--you can walk out with solid pound of prime brisket and great sides. Ribs, sausage, and chicken are even cheaper. I don't get one star reviews, typically, and I'm sure this place is doing fine. After a long fun filled day at the Strong Museum, we decided to eat at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que on Court St in Rochester. Street parking was impossible due to a wrestling event at the Arena down the block. We opted for the parking ramp on Court Street, a bargain at $2 per hour. The very friendly manager advised us of the 30 minute wait for a full service table and suggested the Take Out window and picnic table option. With two tired and hungry little kids, we jumped at the takeout window option. The place was "slamming" busy, but there was nobody waiting at the takeout window, so YAY for us. The staff was very helpful, two ladies helped us with our menu choices. We grabbed our water bottles and headed for the outdoor picnic tables. A few minutes later, they called me on my cell; my fried green tomatoes were ready for pickup. The three tomatoes were firm and flavorful under a crisp and crunchy Panko crust. The cayenne buttermilk ranch dressing and pecorino cheese was a perfect compliment. The remainder of our order was slow in coming, so I went back to the takeout area to wait. The order came up, but unfortunately one of our combination platters was missing, which was quickly remedied. Back at the table again, we had a Three Bears experience. One plate of ribs was blackened and charred, the next was fall off the bone perfect, and the last one was almost raw. The fries were a fail. I tend to remember when a restaurant has great fries, this is not that place. Limp as always; I'll make a mental note for next time and choose one of the other delicious side dishes. The cornbread is always amazing. As was the Mac-n-cheese. The chicken 1/2's and the smoked brisket were "the bomb". Flavorful, tender and juicy. The two little kids gobbled up the cheeseburger and the chicken tenders and gave a thumbs up. We enjoyed the assortment of sauces that came with our meals but the Wango Tango is my personal favorite. We'll definitely be back. Despite any minor missteps during our visit, the food will always draw me back. read more

Like many fellow reviewers here, I've been going to Dinosaur with my family for celebrations for about as long as I can remember! Watching the pit masters from the waiting area with my family as we eagerly awaited our table and chicken wings, using wet naps, and making strategic side choices so we got to try a lot of things are all memories I hold near and dear. As an adult, hitting up Dinosaur is nostalgic, but also a great reminder of this spot's legacy, commitment to excellence, and consistency. They have a great beer list featuring a lot of NYS gems. I recently went for lunch where they've debuted a new build-it BBQ style menu, which was a ton of fun. I loved the new variety of sauces/BBQ toppings being offered up. You can't go to dino and not do wings - wango tango is my go-to since it was my fam's go to and honestly so delicious. I can't do their mac & cheese or mac salad (too rich) but their chili is off the charts and their cajun corn is another fam favorite. We've also used them for catering, which can be a bit hit or miss (we once had very undercooked wings and sides that seemed like they had been out for a bit.) I always look forward to my next visit to Dino and am so grateful to have this spot for the best BBQ in town. read more

The ribs had been held for so long that the ends were dehydrated. The sauce couldn't save them. I had to search for the sausage, which had a greasy mouth feel and was hidden next to the ribs, under chopped jalapeño that was so old that it had lost what little punch it may have had.
