Came for a work dinner in the bar area. We had 20-30 ppl and the staff was excellent! They made it easy for us as we were a group that hadn't seen each other IRL in over 2years. We could not focus on ordering so they cleared it with the boss but made the decisions easy for us and brought out family-style bests. What great thinking and so observant. Lunch time meal after Strong Museum on New Year's Eve! Seated quickly and our server was friendly and fun. She chatted with us, refilled quickly, and was just great overall. As always, I love Dinosaur's decor and overall theme-it's neat that the building is from 1905! Drinks were yummy, especially the little number with brandied fruit in it. Yum. Food came out surprisingly quickly and was phenomenal. I had a simpler meal, cheeseburger sliders, called "DINO SLIDERS" on the menu. Typically, I put mustard ONLY on my burgers. I didn't even need it, because the slightly spicy, creamy and delicious zip sauce was enough on its own. I'd go back to buy a tub of the zip sauce. Wings were excellent and came with a nice little array of sauces. I am not usually a fan of wings but enjoyed these little guys. Family did, too. Everyone must know that this place is amazing already, so I'm really writing a review to remember my favorite dishes... We got takeout this time (love sitting inside- great ambience and always worth the wait but we were in a rush...) The half rack of ribs - the meat basically just falls off the bone and has great flavor, even without all the fun tabletop sauces. The brisket, which normally I'd never even think to order, was soft and juicy with a great semi-spicy relish. The black beans and rice is okay but I'd skip it next time. Mac and cheese is solid, as is Cajun corn. Fries were mediocre, but what can you expect when you do takeout fries? Finally, yes to the cornbread. Always yes. I need to fine the pulled pork that they sell at wegmans and bring it back to Philly with us. Dino to go? Yes please. read more

Awesome BBQ in Rochester! We went at 11 am and had no problem getting a seat. There is outdoor seating available and they take reservations as well. All staff is wearing masks, sanitizer is readily available, and there is good distancing between tables with shield guards in between booths. The menu has a really nice selection of BBQ available. We chose the sweetheart deal, which is ~$34. It comes with a rack of ribs and 4 sides of your choice. I thought all of the portions sizes were generous and most important, the food was delicious! I don't know why I've never written a review on Dinosaur. Here we are now, in 2020, so here it is... I've been going to Dinosaur for a very long time. I don't eat 99.99% of the menu and that could be why I haven't written a review, but I will say that they make a mean portobello mushroom sandwich. My favorite sides include corn, Mac salad, Mac n cheese and the honey cornbread. The last three times I ordered a side of cornbread, it has been forgotten and only discovered once we got home. They seriously need to quality check before putting out orders. The food is good, just make sure you get it all before taking out. read more

On that outing, my date and i had planned to eat light, so we had a couple of beers and the brisket nachos. Fast forward to my birthday this past June, and 4 of us decided to celebrate it at Dinosaur. it was mid-day and the restaurant was not too busy. We were greeted with a smile, seated immediately and we all ordered drinks. I ordered the slab of their "famous" ribs, with the extra 3 rib option. To my surprise the ribs I was served were over-cooked, dried out and the meat was difficult to eat. (I lived in Kansas City for years so knew their BBQ well, and had traveled to Dallas for business many times, and had BBQ down there many times.) At our table, two others in our party were very disappointed with their meals as well. In fairness, the waitress was pleasant but not offering any solution to the dilemma. We were so excited to try Dinosaur Bbq. We drove around the area for about 10 minutes to find a parking spot. We found a spot with a parking meter within 5 minutes of walking distance. Our waitress greeted us and told us she'd be right with us. While we waited, we had enough time to look over the menu and decided on what we wanted to order. When she returned she was very nice, we ordered our pops and dinner. Our food came out within 10 minutes. However, once we received our food, our waitress did not return until we were done eating. That's just something we are not used to. The food portions are large. I wasn't impressed with my ribs. I thought they were dry and a little tough. I couldn't chew a few pieces. The handcut fries were good. We did not try dessert. Actually, we weren't asked. The ladies' room had no toilet paper in two of the three stalls. I really liked the vibe of the place, but it lacked in its service. It was good, but also covered in sauce and pickles. The sauces were not necessary, in my opinion. I ordered the Mac and cheese and chili for sides. The chili was delicious! Their eggs are always delicious. I also ordered the ribs combo. I gave the ribs to my husband. I ate the collard greens with smoked turkey, and Mac and cheese. The corn bread was delicious. My son had the same as I did but he ordered baked beans. My husband had the 3 meat plate. He selected Ribs, chicken and pulled pork. We were served a lot of food. Im a picky eater, but my food was great. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't order the rib plate. I didn't eat any, so I would just order the deviled eggs and sides only. read more

What a cool spot!! The river front location gives you a great view of the city, and the picnic tables and upstairs provide plenty of seating options. It's like an enormous log cabin gastropub with great music to match As for the food, these were by far the best wings I've had. We had the honey bbq and k-pow and they were both phenomenally good. We've been coming here for years, and it's always a great time! I used to work nearby, and every morning you could smell the woodsmoke. You still can. There's something very authentic about this location, even, not like the other ones in this regional string of bbq joints, something that feels like love for the whole picture. A long time ago, in the Gilded Age, the railroad went right through the center of downtown. Right next to it was the Erie Canal, which went up about a block and crossed the river on the Aqueduct. At some point the canal was modified so that it bypassed downtown, and the railroad was ripped out. What eventually remained was the railway station over an abandoned subway line. That's where the Dino is now, overlooking one of the Genesee River flood control dams. Think on it as you nosh fall-off-the-bone ribs, perfectly-cooked brisket, dynamite deviled eggs, authentic shrimp po-boys, the best mac'n'cheese in town, killer bbq wings, or a pile of smokey pulled pork. Or perhaps gaze out the window at the river as you sip one of a dozen draft beers or a whiskey. A little pricey, considering what actually goes into making them, but maybe even tasty enough to justify the price. Now the bad news: the BBQ wings are -- I swear I'm not kidding -- warmed up, burnt leftovers from whenever (this morning? yesterday? last week?). The meat is dry and overcooked, and the sauce is thrown on just to meet the specifics of your order, long after the wings were originally set ablaze and burnt to a crisp. A friend and I came here around 1:00pm on a Saturday for lunch and, of course, had to hunt around for a spot to park, as the street parking in front was full! Thankfully we found a parking garage a block away and were able to park for free! Upon walking in, the place was bustling but somehow, we were able to get a table right away! The atmosphere in here is a lot of fun and a little loud without being overbearing. Our waitress was fantastic! She was easy-going, very friendly, and conscientious about letting us look over the menu and such. Both of us ordered a beer (the Dinosaur Ape Hanger was really good!) and perused the menu. For lunch, I ended up ordering their Original BBQ Brisket sandwich with their daily special side: rice, red beans, and brisket. This sandwich was topped with pickled onions, jalapeno relish, and horseradish mayo. This sandwich was delicious! The brisket was so tender and had a great smoky flavor. Definitely one of the better briskets I've had and I've been to Kansas City, Austin, and St. Louis! The roll it was on was incredibly soft. The specialty side was great too. It had a little spiciness to it and served as a great way to test out the various hot sauces and BBQ sauces. The portion was perfect for a late lunch as I walked away perfectly satiated. The price for the sandwich and one side was pretty reasonable too. Dinosaur BBQ knows how to do good BBQ, especially for here in Western NY. I thought the ribs were pretty good as were the greens. The sausage was adequate. I'd love to tell you more about the brisket, but for some reason they decided that my to-go 3 meat order should okay come with 2 meats. They still charged me for all 3, though. So, basically, with the tip I left, I spent around $40 bucks for a meal that just frustrated me. For $40 in Memphis or Texas--places renown for BBQ--you can walk out with solid pound of prime brisket and great sides. Ribs, sausage, and chicken are even cheaper. I don't get one star reviews, typically, and I'm sure this place is doing fine. But you have one job on a to-go order--get everything in the bag so the customer doesn't drive away and find out later they got shorted. read more

After a long fun filled day at the Strong Museum, we decided to eat at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que on Court St in Rochester. Street parking was impossible due to a wrestling event at the Arena down the block. We opted for the parking ramp on Court Street, a bargain at $2 per hour. The very friendly manager advised us of the 30 minute wait for a full service table and suggested the Take Out window and picnic table option. With two tired and hungry little kids, we jumped at the takeout window option. The place was "slamming" busy, but there was nobody waiting at the takeout window, so YAY for us. The staff was very helpful, two ladies helped us with our menu choices. We grabbed our water bottles and headed for the outdoor picnic tables. A few minutes later, they called me on my cell; my fried green tomatoes were ready for pickup. The three tomatoes were firm and flavorful under a crisp and crunchy Panko crust. The cayenne buttermilk ranch dressing and pecorino cheese was a perfect compliment. The remainder of our order was slow in coming, so I went back to the takeout area to wait. The order came up, but unfortunately one of our combination platters was missing, which was quickly remedied. Back at the table again, we had a Three Bears experience. One plate of ribs was blackened and charred, the next was fall off the bone perfect, and the last one was almost raw. The fries were a fail. I tend to remember when a restaurant has great fries, this is not that place. Limp as always; I'll make a mental note for next time and choose one of the other delicious side dishes. The cornbread is always amazing. As was the Mac-n-cheese. The chicken 1/2's and the smoked brisket were "the bomb". Flavorful, tender and juicy. The two little kids gobbled up the cheeseburger and the chicken tenders and gave a thumbs up. We enjoyed the assortment of sauces that came with our meals but the Wango Tango is my personal favorite. We'll definitely be back. Despite any minor missteps during our visit, the food will always draw me back. read more
