Over the course of the last 3 years I can confidently tell you what an amazing man and hidden gem he is. A crisis in our country is the state of the healthcare industry and the toll it takes on providers. Providers can become so overworked or burnt out that they forget to see their patient as a person or have so little time that spending any extra time advocating can seem daunting. Dr. Gburek found me at the lowest point in my life. By simply listening to me, treating me like a human being, and advocating for me; he made all the difference in the world. He carefully made care plans based on my life goals like having children and factors such as my age to refer me to specialists. I had a unique case where I became medically handicapped in terms of medication. Steroids and NSAIDs cause me to develop stomach issues I had never even heard of. Stomach issues that caused me to be unable to eat regularly for nearly an entire year. I was wasting away to nothing while I waited for Cigna or any doctor to help me. I had lost 20 pounds unintentionally in 365 days. He tried to send me to specialists that could find an answer for my symptoms, but to my dismay, those specialists had no answer for me or even any ideas of how to help me. If you've ever been in that position you know how lonely and desolate it can be. It was traumatic To even be brought to that point I spent years of my life arguing with Cigna that my life mattered but, naturally, they only want to hear what the doctor thinks. Even if that doctor has not throughly completed an assessment, offered any treatments aside from medication, or been inappropriate with your care. Dr. Gburek is not one of those providers. He takes your health and goals seriously and will advocate to give you your life back. He is the only provider who advocated for me with Cigna over the last 3 years. My health struggles robbed me of my identity and I believed there was no hope. Dr. Gburek did not leave me with no hope and he did not leave me without solution. Instead, he fought for me and saved my life. By giving me a life with manageable pain, I am able to pick back up the pieces of who I used to be and who I want to become while continuing to help others as he helped me. I want providers like Dr. Gburek to know how important their care is so they don't lose sight of why they do this and continue to help people. I want patients to see this and know that there is hope for your case. He deserves all the praise and I am incredibly thankful for my healthcare hero. The injections were quick and smooth (not going to say painless because that would be lying) but if you can't have it a little pain, they have the option for a local and aesthetic. If you are dealing with back or hip pain or pain in general your body, I would highly recommend scheduling a visit through your doctor.

Patients were never notified beforehand -- no call, message, letter, or any other communication. Finding out at an appointment that your physician had already left weeks earlier is unprofessional and unacceptable for continuity of care. The core issue is a lack of integrity in how this transition was handled toward patients in a pain clinic setting, where individuals are already dealing with significant ongoing suffering and dependence on consistent care. Abruptly leaving without proper notice shows a concerning lack of consideration and accountability toward those relying on treatment. If there was a reasonable explanation for the abrupt departure, it was never communicated to patients. Even in difficult or unfavorable situations, patients deserve a basic level of transparency and a diplomatically delivered explanation, particularly when ongoing care is involved. Even Ying appeared uncomfortable being left to explain the situation to surprised patients arriving expecting to see their physician. To be clear, the issue is not that a doctor changes practices or opens a new clinic -- that is understandable. The issue is how it was handled. Patients deserved honesty, transparency, professionalism, and integrity throughout that transition. UPDATE to previous review: Dr. Kim's response does not address the central concern raised in the original review -- the lack of communication and failure to notify established patients prior to his departure from the practice. It does not acknowledge the impact on patients who arrived for scheduled care and were only then informed he was no longer with the clinic. The response also does not include any apology to patients affected by the lack of notice and disruption in continuity of care. The use of the word "unfortunately" comes across as dismissive in context and does not address the underlying concerns regarding patient communication or continuity of care. Additionally, it references a "2024/2025" departure timeline, which is inconsistent with what patients were told by the practice (May 24, 2024) and does not align with what we experienced firsthand on June 4, when patients arrived for appointments and found he was already no longer there. Overall, the response does not engage with the communication failure or patient impact raised in the original review.

Because I'm moving and getting a new doctor I called for an appointment and said I am open to any new ideas, BUT, I said, in truth and real life, I am on medication and I will need help getting off of it - if that is possible. So...I need a doctor who is willing to work with me on new ideas and medication, at least for now. I was told when making the appointment that capital pain institute doctors did that, but there was no guarantee, etc., to which I said 'of course, totally understandable'. But, again, they Do Handle Pain Med Management. It says they do on their webpage, and there's a sign at the check-in desk that says medications will be submitted by 6 PM. And, I even spoke to the girl who checked my vitals and asked if she enjoyed working there. I asked if people sometimes got mad about mixups with their meds, because I had witnessed that in NV, and she talked about how patients have been really nice at that office so far. POINT IS, they obviously do medication management. BUT, for some reason, NOT FOR ME. I meet with the doctor and I tell her exactly what's going on. I talk to her about the medication and needing someone who can prescribe it at least until I can stop taking it because other options will hopefully be available! I talked to her about how I don't want to take the medication forever and I that my NV doctor and I spoken about it several times. But without options, I cannot work or live outside of pain without it, at least for NOW, but I am praying not forever. I NEVER ASKED FOR MEDS TODAY. I take my meds correctly and don't need any today. It never even crossed my mind. Sooooo, after all that, the doctor says that Capital Pain Institute does not provide pain medicine management so I am not a good fit. Seems strange that they don't provide it per this doctor, considering all the other signs that they do provide it. But for whatever reason I was referred to go find another doctor. I am a 60 year-old professional woman. I can think of no reason why I would be looked at or treated as somebody who is out pill searching. I did not ask for pills today. I made all of this clear when I made the appointment, and when I was at the appointment. My issue is either the doctor, for no apparent reason, did not want me to be a patient with them, or their advertisements are NOT TRUE. One way or another, this morning wasted 3 1/2 hours of my life. And I was ultimately belittled if they do offer med management but just not for me. I hope that whatever the answer is Capital Pain Institute chooses to handle their other patients a little better than this. I absolutely despise pain management and the stigma that comes with it and I know there are a lot of other people that feel like me. We don't enjoy spending our lives in pain. When Dr. Alan Silberberg walked into the consultation room, shook my hand, sat down and opened with, "I've studied your MRI images carefully, and you're in a real pickle here, buddy," I knew I'd met my doctor. He radiates intelligence the way my Dad did, and he's extremely blunt and direct and doesn't sugarcoat the facts--all the elements I need in a doctor for me to feel confident I'm in good hands. We've taken the approach of doing spinal epidurals (the same treatment that was very effective for me with the original injury), and I had my first session this week. I was face down on an operating table, so I can't visually describe what was done, but I can say that the needles weren't artlessly jammed into my lower back, they were slowly finessed into the damaged areas, and the steroid/pain killer mix was injected slowly and then with a more steady progression. The artful skill being utilized here was quite noticeable and greatly appreciated, and it clearly minimized the application pain (I chose no sedation). This doctor's impressive online CV most definitely matches his performance. Dr. Silberberg is surrounded by a top-notch staff of clinical professionals and front end office people, mostly an all-female crew. I've encountered nothing but friendly and polite helpfulness from everybody, both on the phone and in person. If they can maintain their level of excellence, friendliness and efficiency across the board, then I hope they corner the market here in Central Texas. My Dad often said, "The cream always rises to the top." Dr. Alan Silberberg and his crew have proven this to me. If you're a self-paying client like I am, this is the Go-To Team for you. I was given an amount much lower than my supposed total (which had included balance billing and significantly higher charges)-I paid cash to end it. THEN old claims previously processed as Out of Network (and part of my payment above) were resubmitted by "someone" as In Network, so this clinic collected double. NOT NICE. He ordered a MRI and prescribed Gabapentin. I filled the prescription but the list of possible side effects were terrifying. I called the office and informed them that I would not be taking that particular medication and would another alternative to relieve the terrible pain that I was in. I was informed he would not recommend or prescribed anything until after the MRI. There was zero concern for my pain nor any follow-up after I did the MRI which showed several issues. MY GP saw the MRI and stated that my pain must be intense and it was. Dr. Mancera obviously did not care about the pain due to his lack of follow-up or willingness to prescribe anything else but a medication that after research I did not feel safe taking. I felt unheard and uncared for. I would not recommend.

Although they seemed to know what they were doing, I didn't get very much relief. Billing was an absolute nightmare however. I got bills that didn't make any sense. Spent hours and hours trying to get it straightened out. After months of tremendous frustration, they got a woman who was actually able to help with it. They had made several BIG mistakes (billing twice for the same thing, etc.), that were always in THEIR favor. Eventually, got it squared away (I ended up owing over $2,000 less than they were trying to get from me). By then treatment was complete and their new "suggestions" weren't terribly helpful (for instance, a $2,500 back brace which wouldn't allow me to sit in my chair at work). Just not very good at what they do and terrible at billing. I'm very glad that I'm not dealing with them anymore. There are plenty of other really good Pain Management Practices around.
