The only think that sucked was that I thought it was going to be $60 from what a friend told me, but apparently that price is only for 4/4S iPhones, and I have a 5 (first world problems, eh?). Went in today with my iPhone 5s's battery always running out quickly and my girlfriend's iphone 7's home button and power button not working well after slight water damage. She had given up on the home button working since the internet says it can't be replaced, but was hoping to get the power button back. The guys very quickly replaced my battery, and even though they had just suggested cleaning the motherboard, did a little more work and checked if replacing the screen would fix the home button too and sure enough it did! My brother had a broken 3GS glass. He had already taken apart the phone but he had one stripped screw that he couldn't remove. We brought the piece in and they not only removed the stripped screw for us, they also helped us put the phone back together at NO CHARGE (we already had our own glass ordered online). Magic hands!! my third visit to use their service. 2x for my lPhone 4 for screen replacement after it broke, and yesterday for my Iphone 5 water damage. Let me tell you they did a great job both times. So, "water damage" story...I dropped my iPhone 5 in the water and by the time I retrieved it, the phone went dead. I know, those successful stories about "putting phone in a rice bag" do work. Unfortunately, I had no luck and my phone was dead for three days. I took it to Direct repair and it was the best decision! I had no idea if my was going to work, but their magic hands made it come back to life. It took the guy 5 minutes to know what the problem is, and by the time he came out of his office he said its alive. We tested it and made calls and tried camera pictures, they all operated well! I was happy that I was in and out of there in 15 minutes. There prices are reasonable and know their phones very well. I am thankful that my phone works and will never go to apple because they charge an arm and a leg. Trust me, any issue you have, just take it there, chances are they will fix it!! These guys are honest and very nice. While I waited there within 15 minutes so many customers walked in and they were all treated with great service. That is a place where I trust someone with my phone and even if I have to drive 45 minutes to have them fix my phone, I will without a second thought! I needed the power/sleep button on my aging iPhone fixed. I picked Direct Repair because of the convenient location, the good reviews, the reasonable prices, and the Yelp deal. The technician did some preliminary diagnosis, and it turned out I also needed the charging port replaced. He walked me through the diagnostic process to prove why this was the case, and I felt more than comfortable with his justification for the additional work. Each repair was about $45, for a total of $90. He discounted it to $80, and with the Yelp deal ($35 for $50), my actual expense was only $65--this was for repairs that would typically total $100 elsewhere. This was great, because I really didn't want to spend too much money fixing an old iPhone 4. (I'm currently using it off-contract, and a new phone would be unsubsidized. I'm also trying to decide if I want to go Android now, so this buys me some time). As for the quality of the repairs, it's a bit early to assess this, but looks solid so far. I certainly don't have to jam the power button multiple times to get it to work, and/or gingerly wiggle the adapter in order for my phone to pick up a charge. For all practical purposes, hardware-wise at least, my phone feels good as new. read more

Wow. I am not from Chicago (from California) but I found these guys online after another major online cellphone repairer would not even touch my water damaged phone. Anyway, a year ago I had my HTC One in a supposedly waterproof pouch and went into the Jacuzzi only to realize the temperature made some water seep in. The phone worked but did not charge and eventually died. I left it as a brick paperweight in my room until I was fedup because I had all my photos from an epic 3 week euro trip I took just a month before the phone died. I searched and realized these guys had experience with the HTC One which is one of the hardest phones to dismantle. I paid the 99 cents to get a free estimate. Andrew was quick to call me and mention what was wrong with it. I am pretty tech savvy myself so I told him I'm sure the battery itself was water damaged. upon inspection, he agreed the battery was damaged. After getting a new battery, turns out the LCD was also damaged from corrosion. All I really cared about was making sure the storage was safe and that my files were still there. They ordered a new LCD and gave me a final quote. I was surprised at how cheap it was to replace and repair all that he did. New battery, new casing (I messed up the previous casing trying to open myself), new daughterboard, and new LCD. It was definitely a bargain. It's almost like he just charged me to change the LCD but in fact changed a whole bunch of other parts. He always kept me in the loop over the past 2-3 weeks. I am very grateful at this repair shop for really doing an honest thorough repair and salvaging my priceless memories. I will be in Chicago at the end of the month and hope to pay these guys a visit to personally thank them for a job well done. read more
