My MacBook Air was 2011, basically bought from a friend for light work. It had a faulty battery and was reliant on just the electrical plug. Plus, it didn't close and how some other issues. I went to Apple on Michigan Ave for repair but there was going to be a long wait, so I Googled and found Direct Repair which was close. They were polite on phone and sd they could look at it right away so I hopped a bus. Found it easily-good neighborhood and very clean small waiting area with sofa and upscale mags. The guy on the phone welcomed me warmly, gave the laptop to the tech guy. They're efficient and quick! This guy confirmed the problem, removed the battery (since I didn't care), bolted it back together while I waited, fixed the other things.I barely had time to read the magazine. I liked that the tech guy explained and showed me EVERYTHING in clear English. Definitely not one of those snooty tech people who want to show how smart they are by talking over your head. In and out in under 7 minutes. I'd recommend this place highly. Quick, efficient, clearly tell you what they've done, and exceptionally inexpensive. Perfect. This place is a life saver!!! I can't say enough how grateful I am for this establishment and their miracle workers. I'm a pretty regular customer. I have gotten my iphone6, that I've had for a little over a year, fixed 6 times here...no, I'm not exaggerating on the number. Some people might say that I'm clumsy... I like to think that I just have bad luck. My most recent predicament wasn't even my fault! (Disclaimer: I had just gotten it fixed 2 weeks prior) A friend dropped a cooler of cocktails on my phone, bending the metal and completely ruining the LCD screen. I went into Direct Repair expecting to be told I needed a new laptop after continuous problems charging it and resetting the SCM. The tech solved the problem in 2 minutes - neither of my chargers were working (one frayed and the other not fitting my Mac). "Eek! Methinks not." is a damn understatement. I'm writing this fresh after my latest experience with Direct Repair. I apologize ahead of time for length and any profanity, but I MUST vent. I have an iPhone 5 that is experiencing issues charging. I researched around and decided DR was worth my while. I took a train and a bus to the shop, where the charging port replacement took no more than 20 minutes, pretty smooth, or so I thought. Upon leaving the downtown Chicago area, I started to realize my once great signal reception was now very poor. I used to pretty much get strong LTE signal anywhere I go (I've even gone hiking in the mountains in Colorado and even had decent signal there.) No biggie I thought, maybe just a loose connection or something minor. I went in for the repair Jan 7th, 2014 (Friday), went back Monday (2/10/14) and explained the issue. They promptly took the phone to the back and ensured everything was hooked up nicely, returned it to me and sent me on my way. LTE was looking good for about 15 minutes (just in time to have me on the train) when the signal started to get worse. After a long walk to the train, bus, and to the shop, I return on Wednesday (2/12/14) where this time they replace the lightening port they had installed, then sent me on my way. I was feeling lucky, but no. By then, I had already tried every troubleshooting step I could take short of opening the damn phone myself. Restored from backup, restore as new phone, new SIM card, 1 hour of tech support with my carrier (who states an LTE tower is 1.8 miles away) I return yet another time that Friday (2/14/14) and ask for another attempt to fix. They discover a very thin ribbon cable was loose and had been slightly cracked. They replaced that ribbon and sent me on my way. By this time, the staff turned from happy to rude. I was hoping that would solve my issue but this was not the case. After yet another frustrating weekend of little-to-no signal, I returned there yet again today, Monday (2/17/14) where one of the staff told me he would return the phone to it's original state with my original parts plus a refund. All while being very rude. You broke my phone, not me. I said that's fine and got my phone back 15 minutes later. Once I'm half way home, I realize my microphone isn't working. My voice sounded like I was very far from my mic. I return to the shop and tell them my microphone isn't working. The guy comes from the back and argues with me that I should take the phone to Apple. I state that I will but I at least want my microphone to work. The guy scoffs, rolls his eyes at me, and goes to the back where I can see him pretty much throw my phone on their work bench. After 15 minutes, the nicer of the 3 guys comes out and returns my phone to me. I test it and the microphone works. So now I'm sitting here with a phone that doesn't charge and gets horrible signal now. On top of that, since the phone was opened by a 3rd party technician, Apple won't even look at the phone. So what turned out to be a simple $60 repair has resulted in me needing to buy a new phone. My experience with Direct Repair was AWFUL. 1.5 hours of my life wasted each trip I had to make there. The only helpful lesson that I learned from DR is to definitely get insurance instead of having to deal with this shit in the future. I was polite and understanding each time I returned to the shop, there was zero need to become rude and annoyed with me. I personally work in IT where the bulk of my work is supporting and maintaining solutions with end users. I understand tech problems aren't always fixed on the first try and sometimes it becomes a trial-and-error route. But they pretty much just gave up on me... Direct Repair can go Directly Fuck Themselves. read more

I am so disappointed with this place. Perhaps they are great for iPhones, but my HTC seemed to cause them a lot of problems. I have had the worst experience with Direct Repair, which is still not remedied. Like a lot of people, I went here because of the great reviews and the Yelp coupon (and given what I've found out about the price of the parts, seems like part of the scam). I have gone to the store three times now in the past three weeks. I originally came in for a cracked screen. They replaced the screen pretty quickly, but as I noted to them before I even walked out, the screen was misaligned, meaning there were gaps between the screen and the frame evident by the fact that light was coming out of the bottom of the screen. The guy fiddled with it, told me it was fine and handed it back to me. Inevitably I had to return to have it fixed. Because of the misalignment half the time I couldn't get the screen to even turn on. When I brought it back, I was initially told it would be fixed in one hour. I returned only to be told that they had to replace their own replacement screen and that it would be another several hours. No more than 76 hours later and the top half of my screen stopped responding altogether to touch, meaning I'm locked out of my phone. I rushed out of work a third time on a weekday evening to make it to the store in time for it to be fixed before close, and when I returned after the requested half hour, I was told that they had to replace the screen...AGAIN. What's more, they didn't have the screen to fix it, and expected me to once again come for them to put in a THIRD screen. Was I paying for them to put in a refurbished screen!?!? Not what I signed up for. I obviously declined to continue to waste my time and money at this place since they were not able to properly procure and fit the screen. I've reached out to them two times now to request a partial refund, and have received no response. There seem to be better options in the city. read more

After the verizon store told me I should replace it for $150 I decided to get a second opinion from these guys. They fixed the phone perfectly in one hour for $75. I dropped my iPad 2 on Friday. It hit a wall then landed flat on its glass face on the floor cracking the glass around the home button. I searched Yelp for a place to repair my iPad 2 while I waited. I am positively thrilled at the service I received at Direct Repair. My cell phone (a Samsung Juke...yes...the one from like 10 years ago) was having problems with the center button and every repair shop I have used over the previous decade has not been able to repair it. I ended up having to order new phones every time that button failed. Direct Repair was the first shop that said they could swap out buttons from my old phone to make my current phone continue to work. That combined with their Yelp Coupon and their quick service (one hour!) has made me lifetime customers of them. Their price was reasonable given how complex my problem was and how much I love my phone. I have been to a lot of repair shops for phones and this one simply has more capability than others.
