Part II - My husband had a speck case, and the knock offs always break just above the area where you plug in. I had bought him a new Otterbox Defender for extra security, but he didn't have time to change out the case... and well, he dropped his phone and yes, another cracked screen. So my boyfriend's screen cracked, and I nagged and shamed him until he agreed to work together to fix it at home. Well, doing it at home was fun, but we definitely lost a bunch of screws, installed some things wrong, and the screen ended up not responding to his touch, so I took it to Direct Repair. We had been living in Chicago for almost a year without any computer problems. i had hoped, that when the time came, i could find a place like The Computer Place,Inc which served our needs superbly for many years while we lived in Lewiston, Maine. A few days ago the computer was on the blink. I called the Dell toll-free technician and was immediately informed that my warranty had "just' expired. But he, from whatever foreign land he resided, would perform a remote diagnostic exam of my computer. He did and informed me that my hard drive needed replacement. He could do that if a) i purchased a service contract for over $100.00, b) purchased a hard drive which would be mailed to me for over $100.00 and c) hired a dell technician to come to my house to install it for over $100.00. I thanked him and emailed our church's webmaster. While waiting for a response from him, I searched Yelp and found almost 300 reviews for Direct Repair which was just a few blocks away. So i called Direct Repair. Andrew answered and said he would need to see the computer to a) tell me what was wrong and b) tell me how much repairs would cost. I immediately liked his common sense approach. I liked him even more when he said that he could look at the computer right now, and b) that there was no charge for diagnosis. So i took the computer over and after an hour Andrew called and told me that the hard drive was fine, but that there had been an apparent virus attack which required a windows reinstallation which would cost $75.00. I thanked him and okayed the work. Four hours later I picked up the machine and it has been wonderful. Better than ever. Later my webmaster friend called and said the place he had heard the best about was-------Direct Repair. I told him of my wonderful experience. Andrew and Direct Repair is a customer's dream - friendly, prompt, intelligent, skilled, honest, fast, reliable and affordable. I will never go anywhere else. i sleep well knowing that should anything happen to my computer Andrew and Direct Repair are just around the corner. I cracked the glass and bought a replacement on ebay. Bad idea. I ended up breaking it worse. Direct Repair took it and 2 hours later it was perfect. I won't do it myself again. Direct Repair was quick, prompt and professional. I called ahead to check how long it would take to replace the glass on an iPhone 5s and if the price was as advertised on their website. The gentleman on the phone stated a 30 minute repair time and the price online was correct. I promptly took the phone over and when I arrived and they saw the phone (pretty straight forward crack, no damage to the touch aspect of the screen) they repriced $40 less and told me to come back in exactly 30 minutes. The phone was ready in 25 minutes and works like a charm. Hopefully, I will never need to replace or repair another phone. If I ever do, I am going straight to Direct Repair. I've never written a Yelp review before.. but hopefully I can save someone else a headache. I came here last week to fix my cracked iPhone 8 screen. They were nice, quick, it was an easy process for $100 ($50 less than the Apple store charges). I noticed right away that the new screen was less sensitive than the previous one (would not pick up some letters when I was typing, had to click things multiple times to select, would accidentally select things when I was trying to scroll, etc). But not the end of the world. Well... I dropped my phone yesterday for the first time since getting it back and immediately it cracked down the middle (even though I have a glass screen protector) which was my fault - but I dropped my previous (apple provided) screen dozens of times before the screen actually cracked. Anyway - it was working fine last night until I woke up this morning to it completely nonfunctional. The home button works and will light up the screen but there is 0 touch functionality on the screen itself... I can't even restart it. No matter how many times I dropped my previous screen it never lost touch sensitivity. I would HIGHLY suggest paying the extra $50 at the Apple store to have it done the right way - save yourself a headache. Will not be returning to this place or recommending it to anyone else read more
