My iPhone 4s power button was broken and I brought it into the AT&T store to see about any solutions, they immediately asked how long i've had the phone (over a year) so I was out of warranty, asked if I had insurance (I did), they recommended going through insurance because they couldn't replace the specific part or bring it to the apple store...So I brought it to the apple store. Much to my chagrin, Apple gave me the EXACT same spiel. It wasn't until about a couple months more that the issue started to become a problem, I started noticing my phones performance was suffering a little (imagine never turning off your computer). So I went into another AT&T store and one of the associates recommended the most sensible solution I have ever been given, a third party repair company. While the one that was recommended was not Direct Repair, based on scrutinous comparison Direct Repair was the service I ended up going with. I took my phone in after work, and dropped it off. Originally I had only intended on getting the power button replaced but upon seeing the menu of pricing I had them replace my battery for my phone as well. It took no more than 45 minutes and my phone is now performing almost as if it was brand new. I highly recommend Direct Repair for any iPhone related repairs if you're out of warranty and dont want to pay the ridiculous insurance deductible to replace your phone. Moving forward I will look to them for any of my future repairs for iPhone and Mac products. read more

Stopped by after work to get the screen on my 5s fixed. They told me it typically takes 30-40 minutes, but through reading previous reviews i figured that was generous. They were done in about 15 minutes and everything continues to work like new. Through the yelp deal I saved $15. Very easy and convenient. Unfortunately the screen prices are ridiculously overpriced on the 5s...they claimed it was simply because they were new. Or I simply got ripped off :) Expect to pay about $165. read more

The guys at Direct Repair are no nonsense. They're quick and straight to the point, which I'm sure they've become after dealing with hundreds of people coming in with cracked screens. Either way, I'm a fan. They had better prices than another shop of this type on North ave and they had all the parts in stock to replace my HTC One screen. The Yelp Deal was a plus, but I probably would have still used them anyway. My only grip is when I arrived to pick up my phone at 7:04pm (they close at 7:00pm) it was a ghost town and the door was locked. Definitely understandable because I was late, but I expected them to still be around. Definitely my fault. Also, there was a slight nick on the replacement screen so he knocked off the price a little and gave me some form of warranty so I could bring it back if I had future problems. The process was super simple. I walked in, handed over my phone with shattered glass and took a seat at the front waiting area. In about 15 mins I got my phone back looking as good as new. I can't believe this after all the positive reviews...let me tell you about the SIX visits I made. I'm done with them!! I made so many visits right after work and sometimes I have to spend at least an hour in there. Moreover, I had two phone interviews these few weeks, and I'm in total panic mode because my phone hasn't been f*** working...they're absolutely ridiculously. 1st - Drop off my phone to replace the charging port. Then, they said I needed to replace the battery also. 2nd - Went to pick up my phone, but it wasn't ready even after a week. 3rd - Picked up phone finally. 4th - Brought it back it. Microphone wasn't working properly when making calls. They told me to come back again because they were busy! 5th - Went back again for them to fix the microphone. They said they needed to replace the master board BECAUSE they messed it up when they fixed my charging port. 6th - They replaced master board, somehow my original SIM card doesn't work. They gave me two new SIM cards, but I called T-mobile and they said the SIM cards were invalid. Seriously?!? Sidenote 1 - I asked for my old master board back and they were really reluctant to give it back to me..I don't know why because it's mine. I think they're trying to reuse my old master board.. Sidenote 2 - When they checked my phone, they pulled out the battery without turning off the phone first which I don't think is good for the phone. **Don't come here if you want your phone to be fixed properly and people to care about how they treat your phone!!! I messaged Direct Repair a little after midnight and got an immediate response from the owner, Andrii, that was swifter than responses I get from text messages. I told him the problem and informed him I would be there when they opened. I met with Alex who not only was very friendly and professional but, was able to fix my daughter's laptop by the time I got home. I thought it would take much longer considering the issue she had. When I went right back to pick it up, the owner was there and I let him know how extremely pleased I was with their service and expertise. This is the 3rd time in the last several years that I've used Direct Repair to fix my various iPhones, this time for a broken screen. I don't understand the recent negative reviews I've just read, as my experience is more in line with the 380+ other positive reviews. The staff at Direct Repair were very quick, looked at my phone's broken screen, and let me know the price to replace the screen on my phone. The price they quoted me, as usual, was slightly cheaper ($10 this time) than other places downtown. I went to the starbucks at the Barnes and Nobles next door for 30 minutes to work on my computer, and when I came back, my phone was already waiting for me. The whole process was very smooth and efficient. Also, the 2 staff members I met there were both phenomenally helpful and polite, and didn't waste any time. I asked a few questions about the phone, and they were very quick with the answers. The reason for my broken phone this time was due to a CTA bus accident, which in order for CTA reimbursement, the CTA requests written notes/invoices (from 2 businesses) for the damages prior to repair. The owner of Direct Repair quickly pulled up an invoice on his computer, I input my name and information, printed it, and signed the document for me. Was walking from the Public hotel to the Apple store downtown and saw this place as we passed. Laptop repair. The service was excellent. They were fast, honest, and provided upfront pricing for a same day turn around. Ever get the bright idea to take apart your laptop? Yeah... I did. My battery charger had shot craps, and I thought there may be larger problems that I could have a go at. (Mind you I have literally zero computer/IT/engineering experience. This place is the business, and they know their business. Going above and beyond is just routine for them, it would seem! Yelp recommends them, as well as friends and colleagues. The choice to visit them was simple, but they still knocked my socks off. I took my newly purchased used iPhone 4 into them with several problems (cracked back, broken power button, and broken vibrate toggle). They quoted me fair prices for each repair, but some of them were not essential to me, so I just opted to get the power button replaced this time. He said 45 minutes for the repair, but since I was on my lunch break, I left it to pick up after work. When I returned, I found that the power button had indeed been fixed, and he said that he had found an extra back panel in his shop, so he installed it for me. NO EXTRA CHARGE! The story doesn't end there, because when I got home, I noticed that the vibrate toggle had resumed it's normal working functions again. Coincidence? I think not. Broke LCD on brand new LG G2 within 24hrs of owning it rendering 3/4 of the touch screen non-functional. That's not good. Resorted to T-Mobile's Premium Handset Protection who, though they certainly charged me to cover my device, told me they had no record of my being covered. Not so nice. Dropped off G2 with the gents at Direct Repair, who told me they could fix it in two hours. Got a call in 30 minutes to inform me that it was ready. Looks just as good and works just as well as it did before the drop. With the Yelp deal I purchased, I spent less than I would have on the deductible had the deadbeat insurance (which I'll be canceling promptly) kicked in. This is, all told, good. Also, they are patient and kind and keep things uncomplicated. So, five stars. Go to them! read more

I literally cried when I first dropped my iphone 5c on the ground, shattering the glass. Glass pieces were beginning to chip off terribly when I remembered about a year ago a coworker told me about a place that fixes phones right next to our job. Another great experience from Direct Repair. I went in this time for a repair of the backlighting on my iPhone 6PLUS. Others around town quoted me a price for the repair before looking at the phone. Direct Repair couldn't quote me a price but they say they would look at it for free, part of their regular process. I left it with them, went to get a coffee and wala, phone fixed. You can't make this stuff up. We were peacefully meandering through the garden section of Lowe's on a hot and humid Sunday afternoon. I needed a few bags of soil amendments for a new garden bed... some compost, some topsoil, etc. I was reading the "recipe" off of my fancy Nexus 5, my beloved new toy from Christmas last year. I baby this thing... nary a scratch in six months! I was gently cradling it in my palm as I leaned on the huge flatbed cart that we were filling with bags of mulch and discount plants. My sweet and helpful husband (who had given me the phone, bless his heart) on my request manfully lifted three cubic feet of peat moss and heroically tossed it onto the end of the aforementioned cart with a thud. You are familiar with these carts, perhaps? You are aware that they feature six wheels, but the two in the center are a little taller than the four on the ends, so they can take all the extra weight of the bricks and birdbaths we gather on our shopping sorties? Those two higher wheels form an excellent fulcrum, which, if you are not up on your Archimedes, makes a nifty kind of teeter-totter with which you can move the world. In this case, 65 pounds of prime organic peat moss turned out to be enough to launch a teeny little Nexus 5 phone about 20 feet into the air with astonishing speed. To me, it just felt like a whack on the arm, after which I noticed my phone had utterly vanished into thin air. I looked left and then right, which allowed the inexorable pull of gravity time enough to return my phone briskly to terra firma... or rather, the smooth concrete floor of Lowe's immaculate garden center. And so, this lovely Monday morning, I found myself taking the Red Line downtown and handing over my beloved device, enclosed in a plastic baggie to contain the shards, to a kid probably younger than most of my clothes. He was polite, though, and seemed sympathetic to my situation. He tenderly carried my wounded object away, and I went to console myself with an iced decaf mocha down at the nearby Barnes & Noble. By the time I finished sipping my breakfast, the hour had passed and I returned, imagining all sorts of hideous scenarios. But look! He pulled off a few plastic spring clamps off my gleaming phone, returned to its former glory, and handed it back into my clutches. Unsurprisingly, he also had a brand new protective case at his fingertips, and soon my darling was wearing a shiny clear case. All signs of damage were gone, and my gratitude welled up in my throat. $175 later, I had triumphed over physics! TL;DR: These guys ROCK. Another very happy customer! read more
