As my boyfriend and I were driving up to DC on a Saturday, we were lucky to be able to secure a reservation at Dirty Habit for that evening. We had been to Dirty Habit before for drinks for a wedding reception but hadn't had a chance to enjoy the food. Luckily Open Table made it very easy for us to make last minute date night plans. We started out with a couple cocktails. My boyfriend got the Tease & Tingles, and I ordered the Flying Nimbus. The Tease & Tingles was unexpectedly presented in a very theatrical way. It was served inside of a lantern with string lights. It was a little on the sweet side with all the fruity components, but not a bad cocktail to just have one of. If there's an egg white cocktail on the menu, chances are I'm going to order it. I was a little hesitant when I saw there was passion fruit in it, but I still ended up going for it. I was pleasantly surprised that the passionfruit wasn't too pungent and it was overall a delightful cocktail. I appreciated the nod to Harry Potter, too.  Next we ordered an appetizer to share. After some deliberation we opted for the Dye-Aged Steak Tartare. I'm not sure I love it presented this way with the teff waffle on top. In my opinion, it makes it unnecessarily difficult to eat. However, the steak tartare was very nice and tender.  For our main entrees I ordered the duck and my boyfriend ordered the sea bass. We also shared some crispy brussel sprouts. The duck was cooked so perfectly. The meat was so tender and complimented well by the other sweet and salty components of the dish. I'm a big fan of olives, so I was very happy to have an abundance of them on the plate. The sauce that accompanied the sea bass had a kick to it. It was very similar to mole sauce. He enjoyed it thoroughly and cleaned his plate. We also enjoyed the brussel sprouts. They were just the right level of crispy. We enjoyed our date night at Dirty Habit, and I would recommend it if you're looking for something on the nicer end. read more

Went to the brunch on a Sunday! I will say it's def grown and sexy. Fun to put on your Sunday best and actually be able to hear the people across the table from you unlike some other dc brunches I've attended. Beautiful decor and comfortable accommodations. I personally had a light meal and found it delicious. The bacon was crispy, not too oily and eggs and potatoes well cooked. The reason for my star removal was service was a little distracted seemingly just for my table in the middle and my friend got some undercooked salmon which they did quickly rectify and replace her meal with another of her choice ! read more

And the Friends with benefits was a wonderful treat with a salty snack and a punch of a sweet alcoholic drink. Sides Charred Broccolini $12 Sunchoke Bisque $22.00 lobster | brown butter | fines herbs | sunchoke chip The side were good but the bisque was phenomenally delicious. Dirty Habit is a hidden spot in the Kimpton Hotel right near Gallery Place. The interior decor is really nice and the sky light provides nice lighting when you head inside. I came in around 1 pm got lunch with a party of 7 and they placed us in their private room area. A great little space if you're looking to get together with friends for a happy hour or dinner. Our waitress was very funny and friendly. My only reservation about this place is the food. Maybe other items are better than what I got but the burger .... Was not it. Their burger included a sunny side egg and charcoal bread? The meat tasted ok. The bun was unfortunately a weird texture and hard in certain areas of the bun. I wonder if the bun got like this in the process of it turning black or if it was just old. Either way if I return I will not be ordering that again. read more

A prix fixe 4 course menu for $56 is a great deal, especially if you're looking for a nicer dining experience. We really enjoyed the griled tiger prawns, suya short rib, roasted honeynut squash, and creme caramel. I was very shocked I liked the roasted honeynut squash just because squash is not my favorite, but it had a nice smokey taste to it that brought great flavor to it. To drink, we got the strawberries & cream, booty call, mandarin cobbler, and old fashioned habits. My favorite part of the strawberries and cream was the cream on top but I wish the actual cocktail was sweeter. I can't put my finger on it but actually both the strawberries & cream and booty call were missing a little something that would have made them excellent drinks but not sure what I would have liked added (maybe a dash of simple syrup). Definitely a personal preference because I have a huge sweet tooth. We received great service from our waitress whose name is Parandis. I highly recommend requesting to sit in her section. She was very kind and knowledgeable about the menu. And the restaurant is beautiful! read more

This is a great date night spot! It's dimly light, romantic, and has an overall nice vibe for dinner. We got the burrata appetizer which was unique and delicious, it could've come with an extra piece or two of bread. For entrees, I got the pan roasted salmon which was delicious and I loved the pumpkin. My favorite thing ever was the side of whipped garlic potatoes, it was so smooth and delicious, the kind of item that I know i'll crave in the future. My partner got the steak frites and enjoyed it, particularly the chimichurri sauce. For drinks, we tried the clarified banana daiquiri (doesn't come frozen) and the tease and tingle. Out of the two, I preferred the tease and tingle. For $20 a cocktail, the clarified banana daquiri was very small. I was slightly disappointed that we couldn't order the winter chalet speciality drinks because we were dining indoors and those are only available in the outdoor area. I'm sure that's made clear on their website, but those drinks were something that drew me to the restaurant and I really wish I could've tried one. Had a great time at Dirty Habit, though I wasn't a fan of the far-off bathroom. The scallops were definitely the highlight--easily the best part of the night! The oxtail pasta was fine, but it could've used more seasoning to elevate the dish. The salmon was cooked perfectly, with crispy skin and a moist inside--just how I love it. My boyfriend and I visited Dirty Habit for Valentine's Day. Before I get into my review, it's important to recognize that yes, it is incredibly busy on that day and it was taken into consideration for this review. If you are planning on visiting for a holiday I strongly advise against it. We arrived around 5 minutes before our reservation time, and were told to wait in the lobby until our reservation was ready. We were not seated until 15 minutes after our scheduled time. After seated we could immediately sense the staff was being overworked and very unorganized. We were told that by our own waiter when we were rushed ordering and he said it would likely take a very long time due to how backed up the kitchen was. We ordered one each of the specialty drinks and ordered the fixed Valentine's Menu. We got the first couple courses, and when the main entree arrived, it was the wrong food. We kindly told the food runner that it was the wrong meal and we did not touch the food even when it was left at our table. When our waiter came back 5 minutes later to the table, we told them it was the wrong meal and they walked away with it for maybe 2 minutes and returned with the exact same plates for the table next to us (who also received their dessert before their entree). I have worked in multiple fine dining establishments and it is NOT normal to serve food that has already arrived and sat at another table for any amount of time. Our food eventually arrived and was as expected for the rest of the meal. Our waters were empty nearly the entire time. The server was not there for the majority of our visit and most of our food was delivered by food runners. It makes sense there is a built in 20% gratuity as I am sure many tables would not tip that much considering the service. TLDR: Don't come on a holiday. Mid service. Not worth the price. Dirty Habit is a whole vibe. They have the DJ playing some great music and you have to go bottomless on the drinks. I'd recommend ordering the chicken & waffles, French toast, poke bowl, Dirty Habit burger, and the Birria Shakshouka. The chicken and waffles were the best I've had in the area. Each of the dishes were cooked perfectly. French toast was airy, shakshouka marinated well and the fried chicken was super crispy. My friends and I were here for almost 3 hours. The staff was so accommodating. Our drinks were constantly being refilled. We had a private room by the bar and with the sliding doors it adds some nice privacy. Don't forgot to take a pics at the lobby of the hotel. Highly recommend DH if you want a fun experience celebrating any occasion. Two friends and I were staying at the Kimpton and wanted to grab a quick dinner so we headed into Dirty Habit. We sat at the bar area to eat- you have to order at the bar and most of the time your food is brought to your table. I decided to enjoy the Burrata appetizer- summer squash chutney, pickled blueberries, toasted sourdough, pepita seed dukkah. Holy smokes it was fantastic!!!! I honestly wished there was twice as much in the portion size because it was so tasty! One friend got the dirty habit burger with the charcoal bun. My only complaint would be the birria shakshuka that I ordered lacked the depth of flavor that typical birria has. Prior to coming, I was set on getting the French toast cause it looked so good but when I got the menu and saw the birria poached eggs my mind changed very quickly! The birria poached eggs were soooooo good. I didn't know what I was expecting but either way my expectations were met. It was your typical brothy birria soup with two poached eggs on top. It came with a side of breakfast potatoes that were perfect for eating alone or dipping into the sauce. I still wanted a sweet component for breakfast so I ordered some churros with it. In between a dazzling performance at the Kennedy Center and dinner with friends, we stopped for cocktails at Dirty Habit, and so glad we did! First, the decor/vibe is super cool. Lots of dark woods, creative lighting, and out-of-the-box art like steampunk animals (say hi to the lion on your way in). We started out with the Tease & Tingle (Tapatio Blanco Infused Timut Pepper, Ancho Poblano, Watermelon & Red Dragon Fruit) for me and the Jinn & Juice (Wilde Irish Gin, Ford's Gin, Strawberry Rhubarb Shrub & Tonic) for him. My drink was fabulous: the watermelon was subtle and there was a lovely heat--the kind of thing that gets you at the back-end--and not too sweet. Lovely! The BF's cocktail was also terrific; the Irish gin was just a little peppery and a great combination with the rhubarb. As we sat and chatted, we took stock of the bottles behind the bar and noted that they were, in fact, WELL-stocked. So we had the bartender make a Corpse Reviver #2 (the BF's fave) and a Last Word for me. Both were beautifully made. Finally, we all know that service can make or break an experience. So let's talk about Walter, the absolutely kick-a** man behind the drinks described above. He. Is. Awesome. Not only does he mix a great cocktail, he's knowledgeable, funny, and a great conversationalist. We so enjoyed talking to him and he put what was already a superior evening right over the top. Idk why this places has bad reviews here and there b/c this place was such a good experience when I visited D.C. I don't know what the name of these drinks were but they were non-alcoholic but SO.. just SO good. The best that we ever drank. We went for brunch and they were on the bottom left of the menu so do check it out when you go!! There were like white grape and jasmine tea.. flavors as some of the options. Both dishes were so good as they were prepared so well and the ingredients meshed well together. Each bite was so flavorful and satisfying. The fries were also so good; we gobbled them up so fast! Lastly, the ambiance was the typical hotel restaurant/bar so it was a bit upscale and the service of course was absolutely phenomenal. You can never go wrong with any meal at Dirty Habit, but during this particular visit I was there for a late dinner. As always the service and menu options were top tier, but I felt as if the prices of some menu items were much higher than expected/necessary. I wanted to have an espresso martini with mezcal, and I was brought the menu and told I would have to pay the difference for the mezcal & asked to choose which one - and the menu options started at $25 for a shot!! Overall the food was great - especially for an Asian fusion restaurant. The menu is quite daring with a few of the selections which I love, but the popcorn on the ceviche was stale and unfortunately meant it wasn't such a great complement to the fish. The burger and truffle fries overall were tasty. My absolute favourite course was the Tuna not Tataki which was 10/10 with freshness and flavour. read more

I planned a date day for my Wife and I and stumbled on Dirty Habit on Instagram bc my Wife saw their pot roast, or something and decided she needed to have it. I'm never in DC but I'm always down for an adventure. Dirty Habit it is. I was expecting more of a restaurant vibe but felt more like it was a bar, and that's on me. That said, for what it was, we had a good time. I would be super disrespectful, and doing Dirty Habit a major disservice if I went any further without addressing the elephant in the room. Their French Onion soup is the best I've ever had - the end. It has beef in it, noodles, delicious cheese and broth. It was the perfect food. My risotto was good but underwhelming after the experience I had with my soup. My Wife enjoyed her Streak Fritz. All in all I enjoyed myself. There's a parking garage directly across the restaurant but also some street parking around. This was a little overhyped on social media and it was a little underwhelming. We had a reservation and it wasn't too busy but they don't do walk ins during the weekend from what we overheard. It is quite pricey here and not sure if it's actually worth it. The drinks were pretty good but each cocktail was $20. I ordered the Matcha Pisco which was good but small. We ordered the Set the Mood oysters for our appetizers which was $34 for 6 oysters. They were pretty good. For dinner, I ordered the Loup de Mer [whole Branzino] and my fiance ordered the Ragu Part Deux. The entrees were definitely the star of the evening. It was absolutely delicious. After our entrees came out, it took the server some time to circle back to us for me to order a glass of wine. I ordered a pinot grigio but she came out and started pouring me a pinot noir. I mentioned I had ordered a pinot grigio and she kept pouring so I had to mention it was a white wine. Before our dinner and during, we did have some managers walk around checking in frequently. After dinner, however, it took about another 20 or so minutes after we finished eating to get a dessert menu. We ordered the churros and The Golden Habit which was a gluten free Lava cake and some decaf coffee. I was a little disappointed with the dessert. The Lava cake was kind of a little grainy and had fallen apart when we got it. The middle had a really sweet piece of white chocolate which I wasnt sure if it was supposed to melt. The Lavender sorbet was okay but not bad. The churros were pretty good. They also have a 20% service charge which they do mention on the menu. It came out to $280 not including the tip. I think we would come back for just the entree and maybe a drink but I was a little disappointed with the service and everything else. read more

Disappointing Experience - Wouldn't Recommend We were visiting from the Bay Area, CA, and decided to try this place instead of Morton's or STK, since we have those back home. After seeing so many great reviews, we had high hopes, but unfortunately, we left entirely disappointed. The pan-seared scallops were delicious, and in hindsight, we wish we had just stuck to appetizers. For our mains, I ordered the truffle Amish chicken, which was not good at all. The bed of spinach it was served on was the only part I enjoyed, along with the sweet potato. The Suya short rib was decent, but the sorghum-glazed beets were a total miss--my sister literally said, "These taste like dirt; did they not wash them?" The charred baby carrots over goat cheese also didn't work for us, as the goat cheese threw everything off. We also tried the House Slytherian drink, which was just okay. Overall, this was not a good experience, and we wouldn't recommend it, especially when there are so many other great restaurants where we could have spent our money. We'll be back in a few months to visit DC, but we won't be returning here. read more

Came here with my boyfriend for Valentine's Day yesterday and it was okay. I have come here a handful of times, but it was always for a more celebratory reason (birthday celebration, NYE/NY celebration), so the vibrancy matched the energy of whatever was being celebrated. It was a PACKED house yesterday. Like overly packed. Like as if they didn't cap reservations packed lols it was too much. The waiters tried their best, and quality time with my hunny is always a win, but it was loud and a bit chaotic. If you're looking for a quiet intimate dinner with your significant other/date to be able to have conversation, I don't think this place is it. But if you're looking to catch a vibe with a fancy aesthetic, Dirty Habit is the place to be. read more

Friends and I had a wonderful brunch here last month. I especially enjoyed the biscuits and cinnamon rolls. They are on the menu separately with multiples of each one in an order, but the very lovely waitress let me order a mixed plate, which I shared with the table and everyone was very happy with both. Two of us had the eggs benedict and one had the ham and cheese omelet. I think this has beaten out a couple other places as our favorite brunch spot in this neighborhood. read more

I've heard good reviews about this restaurant, so I decided to check it out for dinner. When we first walked in, we did not see a host to check us in. We stood in the hallway for quite some time, and someone eventually showed up to checked us in. For drinks, we ordered a mocktail which was specially made for us by the bartender. I'm not quite sure what was in it, but our drinks came out so good. For food, we ordered the smoke beet salad to start, pan-seared scallops, crispy snapper, cardamom rice, amish chicken, and truffle fries. They all tasted so delicious and had flavor. The presentation of each meal looked amazing and tasted good too. We ordered a lot of food because it came in smaller portions. Now can we get into the desert? We ordered the Na' Nu dessert and let me just say I wanted seconds. So good! The vibe here was very grown and elegant. Definitely a great place for a date night. The service was also amazing. It had been a while since I've been to Dirty Habit and never visited for brunch so we decided to try it out on a Saturday afternoon. The space is huge and busy but we were able to be seated with out any issues. It's a beautiful restaurant with a great ambiance for a casual brunch or a date. Service The service was great. Our waiter was welcoming and made sure we had what we needed. Very attentive and accommodating through out our whole experience. Food and drinks came out really fast - we rarely had to wait for refills - it was great! Drinks For brunch they have bottomless mimosas and punch for $45. Food is not included. You can switch between the mimosas and punch but can't get both at the same time. They were both tasty and well worth the price for bottomless. Food We had plenty of it. We ordered the chicken and waffles, scrambled eggs w/ cheese, ham and cheese omelet, poke me poke you, donuts and churros. The presentation of all the food was great. The chicken and waffles were fine but I've had better, great scrambled eggs, my friends enjoyed the ham and cheese omelet and the poke me poke you. The churros were delicious but you can't go to wrong with churros and the donuts weren't our favorite although i saw rave reviews about them. Overall the food was fine. I would want to go back to try other things on the menu since they have a good selection of intriguing items. Overall really enjoyed the vibe and energy in the restaurant, very comfortable and a good time with friends. The food was pretty good and left me wanting to try other things on the menu.
