Came here after hearing a couple folks talk about this place. So first, it's inside of the Monaco Hotel. It was a little difficult to find without doing a little extra looking but it's a block away from the capital one arena/gallery place metro. Because it's in a hotel, the restaurant shares a restroom with the hotel on the floor above the restaurant. Happy Hour is only at the bar just in case you decide to come for that! We didn't come for happy hour and had the regular menu for a late lunch/early dinner. L I had the braised short rib which came with a plantain purée and carrots. The braised rib was really good, not the best I've ever had but definitely a top 5. My friend ordered the steak frites which our waiter said was the most popular dish on the menu and i could definitely see why. The steak was seasoned very well and the chimichurri set it off. She had truffle fries instead of regular fries and those were good as well! We ordered brussels to share (sides are $12 each) and they had pumpkin seeds in it which was really good for texture. It's inside a hotel (so it took a second to find but if you know to look for the Monaco, it's easy to find). The menu is thoughtfully crafted with unique options with a variety of flavor options (even with all the fun options, the mashed potatoes were definitely my favorite haha!!!). I can't say I've ever seen so many unique plates! The service was amazing. We went for a special occasion (birthday) and everyone was super nice and we got churros to celebrate! So yummy! There was one strange moment when someone (not our server) brought our check before we got to look at the dessert menu, but that seemed like a miscommunication. Also, there is no bathroom, you have to take the elevator up to the next floor to use the hotel bathroom - which is a bit of a trek... but it is a nice bathroom! Haha! This restaurant is conveniently connected to the Kimpton Hotel Monaco. After a long day of travel, this restaurant was a great alternative to walking around the District. There is a shared plates style menu which is fine, and the portions very good size and tasty. The staff, all very kind. They include a 20% serving charge regardless. read more

What a wonderful experience we had at the Dirty Habit. We started off with some wonderful cocktails - I had the friend with benefits (a type of old fashion in my opinion), we then switched to wine of course. We had some very tasty starters of Buratta and Brussels Sprouts. I had the salmon which melted in my mouth. Dirty Habit is located inside Hotel Monaco and is great spot to catch a drink or meet friends! Each time I've been here I feel like I'm grabbing drinks in a hidden gem that reminds me of Europe. The winter experience here is fantastic; they've got all kinds of fire pits, towers, and tables. Not to mention there are blankets everywhere, being cold will be the last thing on your mind. This place was such a let down unfortunately. It's been so hyped up on tiktok and Instagram! The reasons I feel this was were based on my experience but who knows if it was just a bad day. -They were "no tables" on a Saturday night at 5:30pm luckily I caught a spot at the bar. Meanwhile we could see 75% availability when we arrived and by the time we left it was closer to 70% -It smelled like sewage. Not sure if it was just dirty or something happened in the neighborhood -They didn't have ingredients for the two drinks I wanted. Bartender recommended a drink and tbh it was straight up ice & topped with a lot of soda water -Pricey & auto includes a 20% gratuity I didn't feel that my service was great. We went to brunch on a Sunday. The ambiance was very nice and gave an upscale type of vibe. The food seemed ok but I can't really say much as I had an omelette with potatoes and toast. However my friends ordered the shrimp and grits and didn't like it at all. They said the sauce (which seemed like a tomato base ) messed it up. Two of my other friends had chicken & waffles. They didn't like the chicken too much as they both said they got a fatty part of the chicken and it didn't taste too good. We had a party of 7 so we were seated in "The Black Room". There was a DJ there who played good music that started off at an okay volume but increased in volume the longer we were there. Luckily we were in the black room so we could hear each other speak. Visited Dirty Habit for restaurant week and to cash in on the by one get one free drink deal offered through Guide to Imbibe and it was great! I got the hamachi crudo, the oxtail, and the churros and was extremely happy with all of my choices. The portions for all 3 were substantial but not so much that I was uncomfortably full by the end of the meal. The ambiance here is really cool and we happened to go while it was snowing which made it even better! Sunday brunch is always my favorite with bottomless mimosa. We chose Dirty Habit this Sunday and was not disappointed at all. The place is a bit pricy, and of course, parking is always a challenge in D.C. However, everything was absolutely . We arrived at our scheduled time and were quickly seated. The waitress was pleasant and checked in frequently to address our needs. The food arrived quickly, we'll plated and absolutely hot off the grill. The restaurant is part of the hotel as a result there was a steady flow of people. Yet the atmosphere was comfortable with music playing in the background. I was surprised there was no bathroom on the level of the restaurant. To reach the restroom, you have to leave the restaurant and take an elevator one flight up. As far as parking there is on street parking as well as an underground garage directly across from the restaurant - pricy. Overall, it was a great experience coupled with great food. In closing, as stated previously, in addition to the food being a bit pricey. In DC, an additional 22% is automatically added to your final bill. read more

Stopped by after a busy day at work for a drink and dinner. I was really impressed with the overall ambiance- the restaurant is dark, moody, and mysterious, and I felt like being there was a little secret. It's probably not for everyone, because it's dark, but I really enjoyed it. I had a Wake and Bake Apple cocktail at the bar, which was beautifully presented but tasted mostly of alcohol. The bartender was hard at work the entire time, even though the bar was quiet, which was really impressive, and the bar was beautiful and clean as a result. My meal had some hits and misses- the candied butternut squash with the burrata was shockingly delicious, but the octopus in my entree wasn't well cooked. The highlight was the service- the server was quietly attentive- and the mushroom dessert, which looked very realistic and had a great set of fall flavors. This place gets 3 stars because the service was great but literally only for that reason. We got the steak and frites and it was covered with so much green onion you couldn't even find the steak . The place is over priced for what you get portion wise. Now the flavor was good but my spouse said it was over powered by onions. So he wasn't a fan at all. In total we spent $133 for 2 steaks. A great Sunday brunch spot when spending the weekend in Penn Quarter! Made a reservation for three at 10:30 several days prior & I think the timing was perfect! Two out of the three of us chose to do the bottomless drinks and since some of that is dependent on how frequently your server can get around to you, we were glad to have arrived when we did & the crowd was still relatively small. By the time we left around 12:30/1, Dirty Habit was absolutely bustling & we'd been searching for a drink refill for about 10 minutes. It's really a good deal. We ordered: 3*Beets four ways included creamed cheese, baby tomatoes, black cherries and vinaigrette. It was healthy and light, great presentation. 4*Burrata - Relish chutney, wild green quelites, toasted sourdough, black currants and mushroom dust: Burrata wasn't homemade or fresh. It was likely bought and imported. 5*Short rib Adobo - included artichoke and fennel purée, charred kimchi boo choy and glazed carrots: it was perfectly cooked, the short ribs were extremely tender and it fell apart with a gentle touch. it was very creative to add kimchi which added a welcoming dimension to the overall taste. Nice presentation, too. 4.5*Roasted Atlantic salmon - Crisp potato salad, red cabbage molasses, green apple, and sage: the potato salad was made from several layers of crispy potatoes. It was quite good and delicious. The salmon was cooked medium rare and tender. It is one of the best cooked salmon dishes in town. 5*The Golden Habit - 70% molten chocolate lava cake with lavender sorbet: the aroma filled the air as soon as it was brought to the table. This was a really dope place for a girls night out. Great ambiance and cool aesthetics. This is literally a hidden gem - took me a while to find it hidden in between buildings . We had the scallops for appetizers which turned out really good - I was a little skeptical about fruit being atop scallops and risotto but it was good! I got the steak frites and my friend got the scallops and we both got cocktails on two different ends of potency but both were very good ( we ordered more than one ). My wife and I love little courses so we each ordered our own French onion soup and then split the beets four ways, watermelon tartare, burrata, crudo and whipped butter potatoes. For dessert, they brought over the churros and an innovative banana split. All the food was excellent and well presented, but th watermelon tartate takes the cake. It's entirely vegan and the flavor combination is out of this world. 2) Drink: They have a full cocktails, beer and wine menu. If you don't have the wine, you can bring your own if you call ahead. (They'll charge a corkage fee.) Off the menu, they make mocktails if you tell them what flavors you like. My wife's citrus mocktail was well made. I ordered the Amazonian and it was excellent with the coconut whip. 3) Service: Our service was on point. We were seated the moment we arrived for our 8:30 p.m. reservation and our server was efficient, pleasant and knowledgeable on the menu. 4) Experience: From the service to the atmosphere to the food, it was a great dining experience. They follow all pandemic protocols. First things first, the General Manager is a TREASURE. We had a large group come in for my birthday celebration and she was more than accommodating, got us all seated together. Even brought out a slice of cake for us on the house. The wait staff was attentive and kept our drinks full. Which were lovely by the way. the mimosas were great, The brunch punch had a balance of flavors that I really enjoyed. They didn't skimp us on the alcohol either the bottomless drinks were definitely worth it. I came in for the first time during a networking event and was veryyyyy please with the environment. I've passed by the place for years and wish I hadn't waited this long to try it. The staff was very kind...from the time I walked in the door until I left. The drinks were very STRONG so you get your moneys worth. I love the sexy indoor/outdoor vibes. The only negative is that your have to go back through the hotel lobby and upstairs to the 2nd floor just to use the restroom. I was not a fan of going all the way near the rooms just to potty. He also knew exactly when to fade into the background so we could chat without inserting himself into our conversation. If you have a favorite flavor profile or adult beverage, he can make up a drink on the spot to suit your taste. The drinks we had were delicious (both on and off menu) the atmosphere and vibe are sophisticated/cool without being overly pretentious, and we had a blast talking to Ivan. We stopped in on a Saturday- no reservation. This place is inside a hotel and it has a lot of unique characteristics. We were told by the hostess that there were no tables available... We landed at the other bar which was fine. We ordered a beer and a mimosa. You can get individual mimosas btw if you're not interested in the bottomless. They don't have this on the menu but they are $12. I watched my first mimosa get crafted.... It was 80% Tropicana (yes the kind in a plastic jug) and 20% champagne. Now, that might be your thing but I prefer those ratios the other way around lol. I said something about it to a bartender (which I rarely do) and she graciously fixed my drink with a smile and a wink. The bar was a little hectic and disjointed overall. There were just too many people back there premaking drinks. I think this is what led to my mimosa being mostly just juice. We ordered a burger and eggs Benny. My wife's burger was OUTSTANDING. Not only was is pretty, it was cooked perfectly. My eggs Benny however was void of any salt and my eggs we're definitely under.
