They're both pretty shy and take a while to warm up to new people... but they don't hesitate or break stride when walking into Puppy Tale Lodge! They prance right in, which eases my mind and tells me just how kindly they are treated. And they have never ever gotten anything but fantastic haircuts. They even seem kind of proud when they leave! I tried to do business with Puppy Tail Lodge after hearing many positive recommendations. This review is not about their grooming services, but rather their customer communication. I called several times to schedule grooming for my dog and was told to check the website or that someone would get back to me. They took my phone number, but after three or four calls, I never received a response. In the meantime, I found another groomer who did an excellent job (you can read my review of them). Again, I can't speak to Puppy Tail Lodge's grooming quality, but their customer interaction and follow-up could use improvement. read more

Ellie gets the best haircuts here. Ellie recently had surgery and they are so sweet and gentle with her. As a poodle her hair gets matted pretty easily but they always do an amazing job at fluffing her out. read more

D. could be reactive, especially around other dogs. Bruno immediately came out to socialize with him to make him comfortable before taking him to the back. We love Puppy Tale Lodge! This place is a gem. The staff is unbelievably kind, caring, and patient. We love how they let our large dog roam around after his bath instead of keeping him crated up. He always smells fantastic after. They do a great job cleaning his ears and cutting his nails. You can tell they really care for the dogs and like what they do. Would recommend to all looking for any grooming service. We feel so comfortable leaving our dog here for a few hours. They offer optional payment through an app, and notify you when your dog needs to be picked up. Puppy Tale Lodge also ensures all vaccinations are up to date which we really appreciate. read more

I was a big fan of this place until recently. I brought my dog to be groomed and she was hurt. Had an actual hole near her neck. I was shocked and when I got home I texted several times asking for information so I could tell my vet what happened. They never responded! It was obvious that something slipped while she was being groomed. Luckily she is healing nicely and my vet feels she will be fine but told me to watch her. Accidents can happen but not owning up to them or not responding to my requests for a call, is inexcusable. When I picked my dog up she was traumatized and refused to walk. It took till the next day for her to act normally again. They are expensive, which I was willing to pay, but I will never set foot in that shop again. read more

It seems you took this as a bad review and it's not. It's intended as a good 4 star review with some commentary on things that seem like they could be different / better (in my opinion). However, none of the comments are even close to being detractors of coming back ... especially because the work you've done of the pup looks really, really good. As a matter of fact, I stated I'm looking forward to coming for a grooming that may be more difficult, which I know is bound to happen with a long haired dog, because based on the results that I've already seen it seems like you would do a great job and I can give you 5-stars and say this is the place everyone should come to (which is probably not a good thing for me since you're already always really booked which obviously means ). He dematted her and after i picked her up, i had to bring her to Vet Emergency Group (Animal Hospital) for wounds on her neck that he inflicted upon her! We used the Puppy Tale Lodge boarding service to travel back home for a weekend for a bridal shower. When we returned to pick up our dog, the first thing we noticed when we saw him were that both of his eyes were bloodshot red. The staff denied any events over the weekend and insisted that this is what they looked like when we had dropped him off on that Friday. However, we knew this was not true, because they had sent us a picture update of him with other dogs from that Saturday and in the picture you could see that his eyes were still white. We took him to the vet to be evaluated, and the veternarian concluded that the redness was not the result of irritation or an allergic reaction to products or another animal. Unprompted, she explained that this was from trauma and it something they seem often when dogs are yanked forcefully when wearing a collar or harness. When we reached out to them about this, they never responded to us or provided an explanation. We are extremely disappointed with their service, the lack of transparency on behalf of Puppy Tale Lodge, and will certainly never use their services again. read more

Unparalleled expertise for Bichon Frise grooming in NYC! My puppy, Bijou, is still young and she is getting used to the process of being groomed. Roger is patient, gentle, and clearly loves what he does. When Bijou became very matted from wearing a cone around her head after spay surgery, Roger took great care to demat her. He and his team kept me posted by text to let me know that she was tolerating the dematting ok and also how much it would cost. Bijou always leaves looking like a Bichon show dog, and the care and professionalism are top notch. I have seen several other breeds of dogs in there being groomed and all of them come out looking fabulous. If you want the best for your fur baby look no further! read more

Our very matted Portuguese water dog and our extraordinary knotted and matted Havanesse--my bad, not brushing regularly went in for haircuts and bathes--Roger couldn't begin to detangle and unmat so he had to shave them--after consulting--and he artfully trimmed their heads, ears, tails, and legs so they looked spectacular--at least according to everyone who complimented us and asked where they were groomed. Roger even recommended a soothing rinse so their skin wouldn't be irritated--it wasn't and a bath later in the cycle for a second rinse and pampering. These groomers are extraordinarily professional and careful--nails are trimmed, ear hair removed, hair between toe nails trimmed, glands squeezed, all the technical elements that are an expected part of a trim and so often overlooked in NYC. Unfortunately word of mouth travels fast and the only downside now is trying to schedule an appointment. The handsome dogs strutting around the East 60's have a source--and everyone is beginning to know who he is! read more

I have no reservations about recommending Roger to groom your pup, or as a person with whom to leave your dog for doggie daycare. My Ollie was having separation issues as we are settling into a new space. I took him early to Roger for daycare and he was shaking and incredibly nervous. Roger and Connie took their time with him and got him acclimated, and I came back to a dog who was reluctant to come!! It was like trying to get a child put of Disneyland. I received periodic updates and videos throughout the day and came to pick up an impeccably groomed and tuckered out pup! If you are anything like me in that you treat your pup better than yourself, I feel Roger is the perfect person to trust with your pup's grooming and dog sitting needs. read more

Roger and his incredible team do it all - daycare, grooming, boarding with joy, love and skill for my one-year-old Malti-poo. Lily literally starts running down the street with me gasping after her when we turn the corner onto 70th St. when she realizes we are going to "doggy day care" ; she can't wait to see them. I love to peek in the window when I come to pick her up. I can see my puppy playing happily or snuggling in the arms of the loving staff. I've boarded my dog with them when I travel. I feel my puppy is well taken care of and I love the videos they send during the day. I also love the expert cut she gets; people stop me on the street to comment on it. read more
