I always perceived Drug Mart to be a lower tier convenience store. I'll never think that again after visiting this store. It's the best Drug Mart in the area - very spacious, tidy, well lit, welcoming, and looking brand new/renovated. The best way to describe it is a combination of convenience store (regular Drug Mart) and grocery store. Employees are very pleasant, have friendly small talk with the customers, and answer any questions. Exemplary customer service! This store has HUGE assortment: -Fresh and vibrant produce that looks like it could have been at the farmers market. Quite a variety of veggies! Yams were 99 cents which is very budget friendly! -Variety of books. No trending reads, but a decent selection of various genres -Windshield wipers! I have never seen windshield wipers at a convenience store and loved this find! -Seeds for all your spring gardening! -Enough grocery aisles to avoid going to the grocery store! They have poultry, meats, and many aisles of food. There's even a decent global foods aisle! -Dollar aisle! It's more like discounts aisle, but still very useful! -OSU merch! Shirts and Championship Coke. No glass bottles yet, but for $1.99 I wouldn't mind owning this memorabilia! -Cough drops galore. I stopped in for cough drops and wasn't prepared to see so many choices. That was a pleasant surprise. My only criticism is that the store is not very logically organized. Plan for extra time to wander around and check off your shopping list. For instance, it took me several circles around the store to find baby wash that wasn't located by the diapers. Same with the bakery aisle. I was hoping to find famous Mama Jo's pies found at this location but it took me awhile to find baked goods at the back of the store. Wow! Just wow! This place is freaking amazing. I have never seen a Drug Mart like this in my entire life. This place is a basically a freaking grocery store. It is enormous for a Drug Mart. Folks at my work talk about this place all the time and tell me how amazing it is but I never actually believe them. Today I didn't have anything for lunch so I thought I would swing by and see what I could pick up. I would've taken more pictures but I was kind of in a hurry. The first picture I took was of Randy's Pickles. This is a local company that is run by some guys I went to high school with. Their pickles are awesome and delicious and it's really neat when you can find them in stores. The selection of items they have in the store is amazing they have fresh fruit and vegetables, frozen section, a refrigerated section, a very large dairy section, they have a deli, they have a bakery, and then they have all the other kinds of things you can find at traditional Drug Mart. I did decide to share an old picture of a donut that I had once that came from there. Somebody from work had gotten a dozen donuts to share and they are freaking delicious! If you love good classic donuts and you're in the area this is a great place. The only reason I gave them four stars is because even though they had a bunch of things they didn't have what I was looking for initially and it's something that you can find any gas station so I was kind of annoyed. After having an awful experience at the Brunswick Discount Drug Mart, I had my prescriptions transferred to their Medina location. Only to be let way down again. Last Wednesday I called the pharmacy to have two prescriptions filled. The woman I spoke to on the phone told me that both of them went through the system. When I went to pick them up on Friday, only one was available. i was informed that I needed to wait until next Tuesday for insurance reasons. Then why was I told on the phone that everything was, ok? If I was told the right thing I would have had time to call my doctor to fix the problem. Now I had to wait over the weekend for a medication I was not supposed to stop taking. I have had it with Discount Drug Mart's inadequate staff. All of my meds were transferred to Meijer. Done with Discount Drugmart!!! read more

Deli The Independence Discount Drug Mart has a great deli with all kinds of lunch foods such as soup, fried chicken, side dishes, jo jo potatoes, salads, sandwiches and other foods and drinks great for lunch. Plus tables and chairs. I have been going there to eat lunch 2-3 days per week for over 15 years. Their fried chicken is the best in all of northeast Ohio. A month ago the ownership decided to "STOP SELLING" its award winning fried chicken by the piece. So now lunch goers MUST BUY either pre-set containers in 4 piece or 8 piece selections. This is STUPID!! Lunch customers cannot buy what they want to eat and can only buy WHAT DRUG MART WANTS to sell them. Ever since the deli has opened customers could buy 1, 2, 3, or any type or number of pieces (leg, thigh, breast, or wing) but now customers are FORCED to buy a MINIMUM of 4 pieces (1 of each piece that DRUG MART SELECTS). What if want just 2 legs......nope. What if I want 4 wings.....nope. What if I want 2 legs and 2 wings....nope. I MUST BUY 4 (1 of each) or 8 (2 of each). Whose wise idea was that? What other area grocery deli does that?? NONE!!!! Drug Mart has decided not to service their lunch crowd any longer with the customer's choices of deli chicken. I must say the deli employee and the store manager completely understood my complaint. They were both sincerely empathetic. They have heard it before from others and do not agree with senior Mangement or owners in this situation. But their hands are tied. Way to go senior managers. Don't listen to what your customers and employees are trying to tell you. Refuse to be customer focused. If you keep up this attitude your bad management will spread to other areas of your store and pretty soon you will realize that customers have choices and this is still the America that offers freedom to choose. You'r e not the only grocery deli with chicken. Wake up boys!!! Unless and until they change their customer service attitude to servicing THE CUSTOMER INSTEAD OF SERVING THEIR OWN INTERESTS, I am done using them as a lunch source. And that is too bad because after lunch I would always shop the store. Well no more. I can go to ANY AREA GROCERY STORE deli ie Heinens, Giant Eagle, Acme, and get lunch with any number of pieces of chicken THAT "I" CHOOSE. And then shop there afterwards. This is the only grocery store in Independence. It may not have every gourmet ingredient you need, but this is a grocery store deluxe (pharmacy, walk in clinic, hot prepared foods, DVD rentals and very large beer selection). Plus if you're a fan of Independence Blue Devils, they always sell kind of T-shirt/sweater swag to represent your city. I love that this place is so close to my house for all my eclectic needs (happened to find a can of spray paint for a project for only $1.99). There's usually 5 or 6 cashiers and I've never had to wait long in line either. read more

I grew up in Lakewood and it seemed like my mom would be saying "I am going to Drug Mart" once a day. The Drug Mart I am used to seems like such a dump compared to this one. In this one, the ceilings are high, they have a grocery, prepared foods and extensive beer selection. This is almost like a "Super" Drug Mart. I have been there a bunch of times when I go on my little 15 minute breaks from the office and stumble around town. I always end up walking out with toothpaste and Monster Energy drinks. The ladies who work there are pleasant. I said how nice this is compared to the Lakewood one during checkout today. She was talking about the other one in Cleveland and how she was nervous when she went in. I joked and said "I am pretty nervous right now being in here!". Discount Drug Mart is my one-stop shopping place. I could probably get away with never stepping inside a grocery store again. While there is a small section of produce, it's still fresh produce within a short distance of my house. Plus they have a deli section. Also - there is a lunch counter. I've only ever gotten coffee from the lunch counter, but it's cute (how many other places can you get your prescription, flowers, some blueberries, and warm lasagna?). The store selection and general staff is what knocks a star off of my review - the pharmacy is what keeps the stars there. It's also worth noting that the store recently underwent a face lift and was expanded. I feel that the store and staff are still getting used to it - things have been moved around quite a bit. While the store was expanded, I'm not really sure how many things have been added, but it feels like some of the aisles have more room I guess. As usual, there is a decent beer selection (I'm used to smaller stores having Bud and Bud Light as your options, so I'm pleasantly surprised to see Stone IPA, Breckenridge Vanilla Stout, Smutty Nose seasonal, amongst others). Depending on the time you show up, the store seems to either have more than enough check out lanes open or not nearly enough. On a recent stop, I had two items to purchase and spent almost ten minutes in line - there were two lanes open (and I could easily see two employees in a closed lane gossiping) and things got worse when one lane needed a price check. Despite plenty of employees putting items away, the check out girl realized it would take less time for her to physically go check on the price herself than wait for someone. I felt bad for the old guy in front of me who only had a box of donuts. He was pretty annoyed, but they were just Entemann's donuts (nothing special). I'm still not really sure why I didn't ditch my two items and just go to the Walgreen's across the street, with its empty parking lot - perhaps the Drug Mart jingle has subliminal messages and I was mentally unable to leave without handing over some cash. Now about the pharmacy. The majority of employees are fantastic - especially the pharmacist Jim. They've caught errors that doctors haven't (gee, and I wonder who makes more money?), which could have had some majorly negative consequences for your dear Yelper here. They've also handed me discount cards for prescriptions (even though I have insurance - but it still saves me some money, and I have no complaints about that). I have been shopping here for years and I love the store, however today I ACCIDENTALLY dropped a Drugmart shopping bag (from a rack) on the floor and did not realize it dropped. If I realized it dropped, I would have immediately picked it up. One of the Drugmart employees very rudely said: " Aren't you going to even pick it up?" and then he hastily picked up the bag and turned around. When I was dating my (now) husband, he told me he did most of his shopping here. Where I came from, Drug Mart was kind of a small, junky, dated place that didn't have a lot of stuff outside of pharmacy items. I couldn't imagine why anyone would do any, much less most of their shopping there. Then I came to Independence! Whoa! I mean seriously, you can go to the Metro Health civic, get your prescriptions filled, and get your weekly groceries while waiting. Need something to eat with that new medication? Hit up the Bluestone Cafe up front, next to the clinic. Fried chicken, wraps, sandwiches, rotisserie chicken, and salads?! Seriously, in a Drug Mart??! FREAKING AWESOME! Really, the food is fresh and will have you coming back for more. While you're there get your groceries and maybe housewares, cosmetics, jewelry, and some clothes. They have so much stuff there, yet it's not like a big box store where you feel like you're wandering aimlessly for hours, no hope of help. Pretty epic beer selection too, for a non-specialty store! There's always employees or management walking around and they're pretty much all very helpful; those that might not know where something is will find someone who does. Just don't forget to sign up for that frequent shopper card. You can get free items in store, or sports tickets. Drug Mart is the absolute best convienent store/grocery store in Independence. They have an excellent amount of quality food choices just like a traditional grocery store has, but they also have a pharmacy, movie rentals, office supplies, outdoor tools and equipment, some sporting goods items, car accessories, cleaning supplies, and many other assorted items. Many people use Drug Mart as a convienent store since there are no other good ones in Independence, but a large amounr of people also use it as their main grocery store and as their pharmacy. It's nice to have Drug Mart in town. It's the closest thing we have to an actual grocery store. It has a small selection of just about everything. I used to only come in once a year to pay for my dog license, but have recently noticed that they have competitive prices on a few of my regular grocery buys, so I might be in more often. This is my go to place when I need anything. I shop here at least once or twice a week. Today I had a Cashier named Kaylee S. She was such a breath of fresh air. She has a delightful smile and very helpful. I received a five dollar gift card for a purchase I made and she explained what it was for. When I was shopping she was making her way up front and I stopped her and asked her where is the honey. She took me right to it. The entire pharmacy department is fabulous. They're always pleasant, helpful, and on time. They've given me coupons, warned me that I may have a reaction to something based on similar medicine reactions (he was right BTW), and just gone out of their way to be helpful, especially to save me money on prescriptions. For the first time, I utilized the MetroHealth Clinic with the Nurse Practitioner today. This was PERFECT! Not only were the people at DrugMart super nice, the nurse and his receptionist took me immediately, figured out what the problem was, and I was out of there in about a half an hour tops! Try going to the doctors for an appointment and getting in and out in that kind of time - with results! If you haven't tried this medical option, I highly urge you to consider it next time you need to see the doctor. They accept insurance, are quick and courteous, and overall, couldn't have done a better job. I left DrugMart thinking, "good job guys!" read more
