Discount Tire may have good prices, but their unscrupulous tactics may have you paying even more than if you hadn't shopped around. I got overcharged by $75 today when I bought a set of tires and my sales guy secretly tacked on a "road hazard certificate" (basically an extended warranty) without even offering it to me as an option. I realized what had happened only after I'd left, and had to have them run my card again to take off the unauthorized $75 charge. Not cool. Given that they do have great prices, and reportedly good customer service in a lot of situations, if you know which tires you want I'd advise pre-paying on their website before you go in for the installation. That way you can see all of the fees up front. I don't doubt that the B.S. secret fee they charged me has been charged to many unsuspecting customers, but it made me extra upset to think that it may have had something to do with the fact that I'm female, and thus presumably more gullible when it comes to auto parts. Usually these guys are great. They are helpful, friendly and fast. And, I like that they rotate your tires for free and send you an email reminder (when they have your email address correct). But, this last experience prompted me to share my dissatisfaction. I dropped by to get a flat tire fixed, which they do for free. I purchased the tires from them. Unfortunately, I did drive on the tire before I knew it was flat. And, drove it again to their store location after my husband pumped it with air (he has an air compressor). They said it would take 30 minutes. After about 45 minutes I asked if my car was ready. The guy I spoke to said "it should be" and went to look. He came back and said it was ready and had been ready for a while. He then proceeded to ring me up and charge me for a new tire. What? No one had said anything about me needing a new tire. They should have consulted me first. He said because I drove on the flat tire the sidewall was ruined and required a new tire. Well, I'm sure I would have consented to a new tire, but at least give me a chance to decide and show me the unusable tire so I can see it with my own eyes. I was quite disappointed and a little angry. I felt ripped off. Not good. I'm not sure what happened there, but I'm hoping this isn't standard operating procedure. First of all, when I went to this Northgate store, I was surprised to see that there are many workers working on the cars & they all seems very energized and cheerful - it just looks like they were happy doing the works there, and OMG! many of those workers are very handsome and attractive. I had 4 new tires installed at the Shoreline store 1 year ago, and I currently had 4 tires rotated at the Northgate store. Both times I am happy with this company. The guys in the office are friendly, professional, and fast. When I went back to get my car, a guy there thoroughly remind me to bring the car back for another tires rotation in another 6000 miles. I took my wife's Prius in to get a flat fixed knowing that with over 40k miles I might be buying a new set of tires. I got there 15 minutes after they opened and was the sixth person in line. I figured it would take hours but needed to get it handled today. The line moved quickly and they had four people working the counter. When I got helped the young man assessed the tires on the vehicle and said they were still well within safe tread life so that once they looked at the flat the worst case scenario would be a single replacement. He gave me a potential wait time of under two hours and told me I could follow it on my phone. I went and had breakfast for an hour. By the time I walked back and sat down I got a text the car was ready. They fixed the flat in under 90 minutes. They didn't try to sell me an unnecessary new set of tires. Found out today that the same tire I have had replaced at University VW twice for $191 is only $147 at Discount Tire. Plus, Pirelli offers a discount if the replacement is within a certain range of tire wear. So I saved an additional $36. That's right. The same tire I would have had to pay another $191 to have replaced again at University VW -- was only $111 at Discount Tire. And I haven't got to the good part yet. Insurance for the tire is only $20 and it covers the life of the tire. That means the next time a bubble pops up on the wall of my tire (August 2013, February 2014), or I drive over a nail (December 2013) -- I am covered -- except for vandalism. I'm going to insure all four tires in case I come across another bubble or nail. $20 per tire is a bargain considering that I have such bad tire karma. (Today makes 3 replacements since July 2013). If I had known this back in July, I could have saved over $600. P.S. You don't have to have bought your tires at Discount Tire to insure them. i got a flat tire yesterday driving on 99. Went in today expecting to buy a new tire and after they looked at the tire I just needed valve work. In 20 minutes I drove off with my fixed tire. supper friendly, amazing customer service... oh yeah... and it was FREE! They even put my spare and jack away. For some reason, auto repair workers in general have a reputation of being shady, unprofessional people always trying to gouge customers out of extra money, taking advantage of a customer during a difficult time. Also they have a reputation for taking as long as they damn well please to fix a problem, and there is often nothing a customer can do but wait in an uninviting waiting room drinking really bad coffee. Luckily, this situation does not exist at Discount Tire (or at least this particular location). I had 3 damaged run flat tires as a result of one nail and 2 potholes. I was obviously stressed about driving around with 3 defective tires which could blow out at any moment and about having to put down a lot of money all at once to get the tires replaced. Discount tire made my situation as good as it could have been. I was actually happy and relieved after coming to Discount tire. First of all, I called around and found that Discount tire was cheaper than Costco and had these specialty tires (run flats for BMW cars) in stock, whereas Costco, and even the dealer, had to special order them. I was also pleasantly surprised that they were willing to install my tires same day on extremely short notice (less than 2 hours). They were even willing to install them when I arrived 1 minute before they were scheduled to close (6PM). It took a few minutes for them to look the tires over, a few minutes to discuss my options, and a few minutes to install. I was on the road in about 30 minutes after I arrived. Everyone was courteous, professional, and efficient. The only negative I would say is that they are tire installation specialists only, and don't do alignments which I also needed done. read more

i'll freely admit that i chose Discount Tires over Les Schwab because of the website, Discount actually had info, so i just said eff it and went to Discount. i went in on a monday morning, and it was pretty damn busy, if i didn't make an appoint to get my tires replaced, it would have been a 2 hour wait, so DEFINITELY call in to make an appointment, took less than 45 minutes to get all 4 tires replaced :) i went in not knowing anything about tires, and i still don't, the guy took a look at my tires, and wanted know if i wanted something similar...sure! right? so then he went down a list of similar tires and he was quick to recommend similar tires at a much cheaper cost, it's like he read my mind! i only wish that he made a little more time to explain the differences in the tires, it felt like he was in a hurry and wanted to rush me out of there, but either way, i'm happy with my tires read more

I purchased my tires from another Discount Tire on the other side of the country. When I came in after a bad flat they said "hey, you bought these from us." Then they looked up the sale: "and you bought the replacement certificate." I had no recollection of doing any such thing - but I must have done so. And rather than roping me for another sale (which they easily could have tried to do) they sent me on my way with a brand-new tire, plus another twenty bucks to renew the replacement certificate. After 8+(!) years and 46k miles, new tires were finally needed for my Honda Civic. After weeks of shopping around, comparing prices, rebate offers, and brands, I placed an order online one evening after the store had closed; Brett called me first thing the next morning because the set I chose had been discontinued. Thankfully, he was able to recommend a set available in-store (with a much better warranty). I stopped in that afternoon and they were installed within 45 minutes! The waiting area is plenty big for those that choose to wait and not go elsewhere while work is being completed. I've been a customer for years. No doubt the people who work there hustle and work very quickly and efficiently. I continue to return for a change over of my winter/all seasons. When I have gone to their competitor for this service it pulls left as if it is out of line. No issues ever with this when I use their services. But oh my gerd, bring your tire gauge and check the tire pressures before you leave. I am consistently given my car back with low tire pressure or widely varying pressures amongst tires. Not cool to leave the service bay and need to drive over to the free air bay for service. When I approached an employee and told them they said to pull up in the free air check and wait behind the car that was already there.He then thought beter of it and said pull up to a bay. Yes, let's correct the mistake and get me on my way. Also the tire was super noisy on the pavement due to the low pressure and the guy looked at me like I was crazy bc duh that's the sound of tire on pavement. Miraculously the sound disappeared after putting in more air. Next Brandon helped me and was apologetic and really seemed to care about customer service. I specifically told the person checking me in that this has been an issue and to please help me. Last time that worked like a charm. This time not so much. I'm paying to switch over to my winter tires for safety. It's 80 something bucks for the switch over, you would think properly inflated tires would be included. read more

This place is great. I don't know why people would ever go to Les Shwab. They offer the same deals, and had more tire options and better prices. Everyone was really helpful and I was out in less then 45 minutes. I paid $641 for tires with insurance, that I would have paid $750 for without insurance at Les Shwab. I got 6 months same as cash financing and didn't have to pay anything up front. On top of it, I ran over a nail with all this Seattle construction and they fixed my new tire, and pushed my car in between people to get me out within 20 min so I wouldn't be late to class. read more

I bought some tires here for my BMW X5 for $1,800 two years ago. Since then I have been switching from winter tires to summer tires every six months. I have always been able to call and make an appointment for 1-3 weeks out when they first have availability. I called this past week and asked for an appointment on the coming Saturday. He said we are booked up 14 days out so I said ok no problem, please give me your first available appointment. I was told you can only book up to seven days in advance. I asked how could that be if you are booked up for 14 days.... just give me your first available appointment. He reiterated that he could only book seven days out and couldn't book me an appointment. I asked if I could drop by sometime to get this done and he said no. Anyways, I have a different tire shop now. read more

I don't know what I was expecting going to a discount tire near the university. Everyone was young and incompetent and I had a terrible experience. I got a flat tire on a Friday, they told me they ordered my new tire and it would be there the next day. That next day I get a call saying they ordered the wrong tire (?!) and it will get there next Wednesday. Wednesday rolls around and after I called them to confirm my tire was there and to book installation they tell me that it's at another location and they didn't communicate with that location to send the tire over. So now it's coming on Monday of the next week. I book an appointment and have everything set. Monday rolls around and I leave work early and drive through traffic to get there, I even call to tell them I will be 5 MINUTES late and they say no problem, only for me to get a call 2 minutes later that my tire isn't there yet! It'll get there the next day and it's fedex's fault. I asked why I didn't get a courtesy call that my tire was delayed and they said "someone should have but they didn't". Not exactly helpful when it's been almost 2 weeks since the initial incident and you thought you'd have a new tire the very next day. They simply don't care enough to try hard and I would not recommend anyone to come here. It's called discount tire for a reason. Learned that the hard way. read more

Bought new Toyota Venza December 2011. Came here for 20 inch Bridgestone Blizz Tech studless snow tires. (Tires recommended by lawyer and car nut friend.) Purchased set of tires and four new Mega Black rims. Rims enhance the profile of the car and the tires perform GREAT. Made it over Snoqualmie pass three times. Once I was only vehicle moving. No skids, great traction control. Have heard these tires are noisy...but not in my case. Really enjoy them. Have not noticed signifcant decrease in gas mileage. Achieve 22-25 mpg. For vehicle of this size and AWD feel that is great. Have other issues with car; but, not these tires. Tires removed, marked properly, lug nuts placed in heavy plastic bag. Tires placed in big bags to keep from damaging my car. Installer (Devan) could not see me watching him. I saw him carefully lift and place tires in back of car. Did not throw them in. Great job for that. Manager (Jason) took care of the paperwork, money and warranty and explained everything to me to my satisfaction. So why is this not five stars...had to wait a week for tires to arrive. Came from Ohio. Oh well cannot have everything. read more

Today I got my front tires replaced and they price matched the same model rear tires I bought from them a couple years ago (price went up because of recent oil crisis). I'm not one to write a ton of reviews. In fact, I think this might be my first one on Yelp despite years of visiting the site. This Discount Tire location deserves major props for going above and beyond on the customer service front, though. This morning, my truck got a flat tire down the street from Discount Tire. My truck is a hand me down, and apparently over the years the jack and crank for lowering my spare have gone missing. Since it's about a mile to the auto parts store on 99, and the tires were originally from Discount, I stopped in to see if they had a jack I could buy. They didn't, but they did one better: they had a guy bring one of their jacks and cranks down the street to help me out. I can't imagine any other tire place, even the ones that advertise exemplary customer service, doing that. The tire replacement itself was seamless and more than fair. The tire was irreparable, but I had the extended warranty (tires are the only thing I'll buy them on), so it just cost me labor plus a new warranty on the replacement. I've always been partial to Discount for their reasonable prices, but this experience has made a customer for life out of me. read more

I was very impressed with the quality of service I received yesterday when I took in my own tires to have them mounted and balanced. They were extremely courteous and helpful, and had my tires mounted and rotated in under 30 minutes! I do admit that they warned me they were busy, but to have to wait +2 hrs just to have them rotate and rebalance my tires is quite ridiculous. I was told that it would be 1-1.5 hrs. It only take 10 mins to rotate tires. read more

These guys are quick, and always give me the best deal possible. The only problem I have with this place is that it seems like whenever I get my tires changed they break one of my bolts...okay, they pay for it to go get fixed, cool, but, I have to take even more time out of my day or another day to go to Meineke and get it repaired. Other than that I've always had a great experience with them and they are super apologetic when they have broken a bolt (3 times now).
