After getting ridiculous quotes from a few companies, some who said we had to replace the entire window, Joe's came in with an extremely reasonable estimate. They were seamless to communicate with, very prompt and informative. After initial appointment, the replacement took about 15 minutes! It's been maddeningly difficult to find a company willing to replace a single broken window pane, without replacing the entire window (frame, glass and all). It seems like every "window replacement" company out there refuses to just cut and install a new pane, even though doing so is one step in the process of total window replacement. Thankfully, Joe's Glass offers this service, and at a reasonable price. It took a couple weeks to get someone out to get me a quote, but once he arrived, the assessment was quick and pane-less. Afterward, a new window was ordered, cut and installed within two weeks. We were fortunate that this incident happened in the summer, as we've had virtually no rain for the month and a half it took to locate, schedule and execute a solution to our pane-ful problem. If it had been any other season, I probably would have been significantly more irritated and impatient. In regards to professionalism, price, promptness, and quality of work, Joe's Glass excels in all of these things. If all you need is some replacement glass, they're one of the few companies in the Portland area who will take on the job, and for that, I am eminently grateful. Joe's Glass is nice to work with and easy to communicate with, but if you're dealing with non-standard windows, be prepared for potential issues. While the installation team was polite and acknowledged challenges with arch windows, multiple visits were required due to measurement errors and unexpected complications. The most frustrating issue was discovering--midway through the project--that drywall around a large arch window needed to be removed. This was not mentioned during initial measurements, and only after returning with an incorrectly sized window did they inform me that the drywall had to come out for them to remeasure and proceed. I removed the drywall myself (carefully), and they did install a nice-looking window, but I had to pay $1,200 for drywall replacement. When I asked for a discount, considering the drawn-out timeline and additional costs, they refused any compensation, stating it was an unforeseen condition. After escalating via email, I received a call where I asked to split the cost--but the person on the phone (who later claimed to be a co-owner) flatly refused, which felt dismissive and a bit sketchy. Completely satisfied with my experience with Joe's Glass Company. During the wind storm a few weeks ago, one of my huge windows was broken and completely shattered. I had multiple quotes for the replacement. Joe's Glass was not only one of the quicker installation times, but also more affordable. I was given a month minimum for installation timeframe for my window replacement. Can you imagine having a board up in your living/kitchen nook area for that long?! Last summer, I requested a quote, signed a contract and put down a deposit. Joe Glass did not honor this contract. I asked repeatedly for them to do a new estimate if their previous quote was too low. But they just ghosted me and would not have anything to do with me. As a property manager, I've used Joe's Glass on a few occasions throughout the years. But I won't any longer. Here's why; I sent Joe's Glass to a rental property to replace two broken panes of glass in an overhead garage door. They did so...and when I went to assess their work, I opened the garage door...and to my dismay, the two panes of glass broke as the door opened. I called them asking them why they replaced the panes of glass when it was obvious to them that the door was not working properly. The technician told me himself that he knew that the door wasn't working properly, as the top panel 'flopped about and the door wasn't opening smoothly'. I asked him why he didn't report this to me. He said that people have them frequently replace glass panes all the while knowing that the door doesn't work properly. Well, if he had relayed this to me, I certainly would've halted his replacement. And instead of calling/texting me to give me the opportunity to say halt on the job, he turned on me stating that I should've already known that the door was broken. Then, he tried to make amends, offering to go back and do it for $275, but that he'd have to get permission to do so first. I waited on line to talk with the boss. He came back to say that they will NOT do any such thing. Hmmm, poor customer service to say the least! And goes to show you that even with a history, no consideration is given by this company. We were subjected to this company through our apartment management. They were sent to repair a crank window in our 6th floor apartment that stopped cranking shut. They came out once and said they could do the work but needed to get parts. Then they called and said they needed to come back again for serial numbers on the window. When I called to schedule a time for their return the guy thought he was speaking to the apartment manager and said " Is your tenant whining about the window." I was shocked. They also scheduled and cancelled several visits with no regard for the inconvenience this caused. They eventually sent out two young guys who couldn't seem to make heads or tails of the repair needed but they still claimed they could do the work. Weeks went by and we heard nothing back from them so, our apartment manager called to inquire where they were at in the process...They called her back and said the repair was outside their scope. I did not have work done, so I don't know their quality of work. However, I scheduled an appointment & had it confirmed about a week before the date (last Friday). I received an email (not a phone call) about 20 minutes before they were supposed to be arriving for my scheduled appointment (Thursday), stating that they could not come out for the appointment as they don't work on homes pre-1978 because of lead. This is a legitimate reason, obviously. However, it was incredibly rude for them to not take the time to read my clear first email, which stated that my home was built in 1947. The 2 stars is because he is friendly and was on time. So we are looking at getting windows and called Joes. Joe came out the same week, and was very friendly. He went through the house taking measurements. Even said we could possibly save some money if we just replaced the glass instead of all new windows. This was cool we thought. Someone finally not trying to sell us new windows only, just to make a buck. It took about an hour. When he left he said he would get back to us with 2 estimates, one for all new glass, and one for new windows, and it should only be a few days. This was a Wednesday. We had not heard anything by Friday, but also realized he did not take down our email to send the estimate. I called and left a message requesting he give me a call back if he needed the email, as we were not sure how he delivers the estimate. Well, we are now a month later, and still have heard no response. No call. Voicemail. Text. Letter. Nothing. We ended up going with another company. So while I can't say the work was good or bad, it was disappointing not to even get an estimate, as we were excited to probably work with someone who is local, was looking for ways to save us some money, and who was very friendly. Then, when I hired his firm, Sheila, the office manager, was always helpful and cheerful, and his employees were the best! Each one was friendly and polite, respected all the virus restrictions, and went the extra mile to make sure the job was done correctly. They truly went beyond the expected of just replacing the existing door, they replaced a new screen that had a scratch in the paint, adjusted everything over and over, and even created a border where there was a gap in the carpet from the previous door frame. Joe showed up as promised for an estimate and returned to fix about 12 window ballasts on my vinyl sliding windows, and replace a window pane that had lost it seal. They reused window trim that was meant to be replaced and in the process broke trim pieces leaving us to patch and then had the balls to send us to collections for withholding $100 due to the cracked trim. They charged over $1100 for about a 3'x4' kitchen window. Said it was an "odd size" so it more expensive. Told me it would be polarized and I wouldn't even need blinds (gets a great deal of light) bit it was just a standard window, no polarization. Later I had Millguard windows installed through my entire house and the contractor showed me how they installed it very crooked. They didn't use any insulation. Didn't replace the cedar shakes or paint the outside that they had to tear off. It was so poorly done I had to pay full price for an actua l professional to do it right. They really scammed me. After taking to others, the owner used to be more hands on wo th the installs but now just hired young kids to throw them in and doesn't care if their done right. Do some research and avoid these guys. I recommend a general contractor that also does windows so they'll do the WHOLE project. And do it right. This was a big learning experience for me. This place should not be in business anymore. I really think he should step up as a business owner and contact me and figure out a way to remedy this. It's been well over a year, he called me on Christmas Eve demanding even more money which I gave. Now after having a real contactor install the window level, insulated and properly done I have well over $2000 invested in this basic little 2'x3' kitchen window. I just wish in some perfect world this guy would contact me and admit he owes me a window at least. But I doubt that ever happen unfortunately. But I know plenty of homeowners that now know not to call them and fortunately there's places like Yelp to state my case and hopefully warn others not to let this happen. read more

I had an appointment today and the company was a no-show. I scheduled a week ago, had a phone call reminder, as well as an email reminder from the company stating the hour window that they would be at my home. I waited an additional hour beyond the window, and then I called the company to see what happened and cancel. The woman who answered the phone, Theresa, had zero customer service skills. I let her know that, unfortunately, they were a no show, to which she responded, "they are running behind". I can understand that happens, but when I said that it would have been nice for someone to call and let me know that, her only response was that my appointment was a two hour window, to which I responded no, I'm looking at the email you sent me and it clearly states the same one hour window that I placed on my calendar when I scheduled the walk through. She then told me, "Well your appointment is cancelled now." Honestly, had she just apologized for the inconvenience I would have waited longer for them to show up. There are many companies to choose from for windows, and I'm sure that this company may do a great job, but when you are treated poorly by the scheduling department, that's just unacceptable. read more

Time frame: end of summer 2016 to Oct 2016. I wanted to change out two aluminum frame sliding glass windows to picture windows to enhance the beautiful view. The son came out, did an assessment, said they couldn't get started for two weeks. Not a problem. I received and accepted the bid. Until I fired the company two months later, I never heard a word from Joe. I did all communications via email, just for the record. I owned my own dental practice for 30 years, same with my home. I've remodeled my home, new roof, repainted the exterior requiring 4 coats of paint for the faux texture, appliance repairs, etc. All superior work. Dental offices deal with all kinds of business: Cleaning, maintenance. repairs, plumbing, etc. Joe's Glass is truly the worst company I've ever dealt with. That's a fact. Nothing was getting done, no one was responding to my questions. Finally (past the two weeks) an installer came out to assess. He determined he would have to make custom frames at double the cost. Fine, great, let's get started. Nothing again. I started emailing: What's going on? Is Joe in jail? In the hospital? All of the workers quit? Are you going bankrupt? No responses. For information about the windows themselves I had to track down that company. Finally, I was given a scheduling date for installation. That morning the mystery man "Joe" called with a "the dog ate my homework" call. "The glass company broke the windows this morning, I'll have to call you back this afternoon.", and hung up. "What?" A company that makes a living putting two pieces of glass together breaks them, then doesn't know when they can put two more together before they call him with the bad news? I didn't believe him for one second. Joe didn't call me back as he said he would. Surprise, surprise. After two months of this, not two weeks, I sent an email firing Joe.
