After taking two classes through Yelp, I was happy to purchase the starter three pack to try additional classes. I'd describe Barry's as a boutique fitness studio that offers a great workout with energetic and motivating instructors with fun curated playlists. Barry's follows a cadence for muscle group focus that I appreciate. There is also a fuel bar that serves nutritious and yummy smoothies. This class was super high energy. I had no idea what I was getting myself into but I survived with a smile!! Riti was our instructor for RUN X FULL BODY & she kept the upbeat vibes the entire time! It was honestly impressive & equally shocking how amazing her classroom management was haha but she kept us motivated for the whole 50 minutes. There were various sets where half the class was on the treadmill and the other half on the floor. The treadmillers were jogging, sprinting, & everything in between. The floor people were doing a lot of squats, bodyweight & weight lifting exercises. Then every few minutes the people on the treadmill would switch to the floor and vice versa. You really have to listen carefully and pay attention while the instructor is moving around shouting out what you're supposed to do. Parking is in a lot or on the street, both requires payment. There are lockers to store your belongings as well as showers in the bathrooms. They provide towels at eac station for the class as well. You be assigned a number for the treadmill & the floor section. This is definitely not meant for someone who gets overstimulated easily but if you like chaotic exercise classes, I highly recommend. I love working out, and workout classes are my jam. I've always wanted to try a class at Barry's--it seemed luxurious while promising a great workout. But... Parking was a pain. Why do we have to pay when there's a big open lot? The "30 minutes free" policy makes no sense when all classes are over 30 minutes--so why even advertise that? When I entered, I felt lost. It was my first time, and although the front desk staff explained where to go/what to do, I would have appreciated being walked there--especially since there were three people at the desk anyways. I started on the treadmills, and let me just say, if I wanted to run 9 mph for what felt like forever, I could do that on my own. The instructor yelling, "Faster, faster!" didn't add much value. If they had offered corrections or private feedback, it would have made a difference--but that wasn't the case. The strength portion of the workout wasn't much better. It was just someone shouting, "Harder! You got this!" the whole time. I'm here for guidance, corrections, and feedback, not generic yelling. Sure, Barry's is boujee and picture-perfect, but I'll stick to my Lifetime Fitness classes. At least there, I feel like I'm learning and improving--not just being pushed to exhaustion without direction. read more

My company offered us a couple of passes so that we could try Barry's so I jumped on the chance to try a new workout and quickly signed up for some early morning classes. Upon arrival, the front desk staff was very welcoming and quickly checked me in. I was shown where the lockers were and then told to wait until the doors opened up for class. When the doors open, I walked to my assigned treadmill and was ready to go. I was a bit surprised that there is not more of a walk through of the studio or an introduction to the class but I dove in with the rest of the attendees. The class itself was so much fun and the instructor, Riley, had the best energy. I liked that the room was dark with minimal red lighting as it set the mood for intensity and also that the workout was split between 20ish minutes on the treadmill and 20ish min doing the floor workout. As someone who works out daily, I was surprised with how sore I was after the class (for days) but pleased knowing it was doing me good. I wish Barry's wasn't as expensive as it is all around because I'd go more often but for now will settle for once per week just to target specific areas of my body. Additionally, I do think they should have a way to note if you have injuries and may need adjustments to certain workouts. Other than the few points I made, Barry's is really great and does provide an intense workout. read more

I've always wanted to take a HIIT class at Barry's, so when CGWWH offered members a class I immediately signed up. There was a miscommunication on the groups side so I arrived 30 minutes late. However the front desk ladies were super kind and offered me a free class to make up for it. Christina was such a great instructor. It was my first and I was late by 30 minutes but she made us feel comfortable and was very encouraging throughout the workout. I had a lot of fun! However, the downside of Barry's is the price. It's kinda expensive, but I will say the burn you feel after your workout is worth it - truly a challenging class! If I lived closer and I had the budget I would come here regularly. read more

I go to Barry's Austin regularly but popped in here while visiting for work and I'm so glad I did! Thank you Lacy for a fantastic class and the perfect playlist. Her class was by far one of the hardest I've ever done and that's most definitely a good thing. Barry's is the only gym I've been able to consistently commit to and want to show up at. Is it expensive? Yes, but you get what you pay for. Ask anyone who comes to class consistently and they will tell you: it's worth it. The classes not only burn calories but help you actually build muscle. Pay attention and ask for what you need. This is a trainer led class - but it's still YOUR workout. The first one is always a bit of a learning curve but stick it out and you'll get it down after the first two rounds. The amenities are exactly what you need (this isn't a spa people - it's a gym). They have Ouai products, Dyson hair dryers, hair/body products, fresh towels. You can order a protein shake before class and it'll be ready right when you pop out. read more

I've been in the strip where Barry's is located many, many times before but I never realized what this place is. My boyfriend and I signed up for a class here via ClassPass as he's heard a lot about Barry's and wanted to give it a try. From the moment we walked in, the staff was very friendly, welcoming and helpful! They got us registered in their system and gave us the run-down of how the class would go. What's more, they have a protein shake bar in the studio in which they will take your order before class begins and have it ready for you right before the class ends! This was super convenient and something we've never experienced in a gym before. The class we took was in the Red Room and it was called RUN X LIFT, which focused on both treadmill running and upper body weightlifting. This is DEFINITELY not a class for beginners (just pointing out that we are not beginners, but we workout regularly with a different program that is all-levels-friendly. This was not that). If you're coming here for the first time, be prepared to LISTEN closely to what the instructor says as he was constantly changing things up. My boyfriend wasn't listening too well so he grabbed the wrong set of weights at one point. I also wasn't listening well and was doing the treadmill portion wrong for the whole first half of it. So if this happens to you, just laugh it off and keep moving! Lol Also, I think it's really cool that they have locations all over the world. If chaos was a gym... parading as a luxury in River oaks this location will not be seeing me again. I came for the first time for an event. I pre registered as requested/required from 3 separate emails sent prior to the class. After parking another patron pointed out that the parking is for a fee... in an open lot... in a plaza... not downtown... on a Sunday. So I asked at the front if they validate and they said no it's free for 30 minutes or you can park at the Kroger across the street which also sounds like a sure fire way to get your car towed since the class is an hour. Perhaps in all those please register emails they should have mentioned the parking. I then told them my name and they had me sign up again... after this they had me wait with the people behind me so they could explain everything at once. I was trying to register for the parking at the same time and she was explaining how ordering a smoothie works. We didn't get into the class until after it started despite arriving early. There was one instructor for 30ish people who were split into running on a treadmill or doing weighted floor exercises. Both newbies and vets looked equally confused throughout the class trying to tune into which cues were for them. Confusion= dangerous = ineffective workout. I do F45, Pilates, barre regularly and have had a personal trainer so I know a good workout and a good instructor when I see one and this wasn't it. I will say I burned a lot of calories so that's the one positive. At least I can say I tried it. read more

I've been attending Lacy's classes for years now, and they're always the best! I live in The Woodlands, so the drive for me ranges from 45 minutes to an hour and 45 minutes, but it's always worth it. She pushes me to work hard throughout the entire class, keeps me going, and helps me believe in myself. Awesome facilities, awesome people, and awesome classes! Similar to Orange Theory, Barry's offers high intensity workout with alternating treadmill and floor workouts with various instructors. I like taking the occasional class to switch things up from my usual workout routine. The LIFT class in the smaller room is focused mostly on weights and strength (read: SO SORE). You'll have some trainers that sort of yell at you for encouragement and others that talk to you in a yoga-calming sort of way over blood-pumping, rocking music. If you're sensitive to loud music or sounds, I suggest you pick up a free pair of ear plugs at the front desk before you start a class-- you can always just take them out if you can handle the beat! I really like how the locker rooms are so bright and bougie :D With free lockers, ample body and facial towels, Q-tips, high-tech Dyson hair dryers, and fancy toiletries in their clean showers, it's hard not to love visiting! And there's also a smoothie bar, which I've only heard good things about ^^ They seem to always have special sales for class packages, so check them out! read more

Barry's Bootcamp has FINALLY!!! opened its doors in Clutch City!! If you've never been to a Barry's workout before you are in for a killer treat and a new addiction. Located in River Oaks, Barry's Bootcamp took over the old Lukes Locker space on W. Gray Street and gave the building a much needed facelift. There are two entrances to Barry's, one entrance is facing the street and the second is facing the parking lot. As soon as you walk in you immediately see the front desk to your right or right in front of you. Just like most Barry's locations, you have a Fuel Bar where you can pre-order a smoothie/shake and have it ready for pickup when you walk out of class. There is a shopping boutique area with clothes for both men and women, some lululemon branded and others are in-house Barry's branded clothing. My favorite are the Barry's branded soft tanks! Grab the studio specific ones while they last. Now to where all the action takes place, THE RED ROOM! This red room is one of the bigger sized ones compared to other Barry's locations. As soon as you walk in you get all the fuzzy feels in your stomach! The music is hot! The red light is flowing down your soon to be glistened skin! A mirror that wraps around the entire room so you can check yourself out as you pump those arms and legs! Sounds hot huh! As for the actual workouts themselves - they are NOT EASY! When you book a class at Barry's you came to work, you came to sweat and most importantly you came to burn TF out of your muscles! So go cancel those toddler Orangetheory memberships because Barry's Bootcamp is NEXT LEVEL crazy, intense, and fun! Unlike places like Orangetheory, Barry's has a specific type of workout every day focusing on a specific part of your body which I love because thanks to that i know what day to skip if I'm not feeling like working out arms or legs. These change every once in a while but so you can get an idea on how it works: Monday: Arms & Abs Tuesday: Full Body w/ Lower body focus Wednesday: Chest, Back & Abs Thursday: Abs & Ass Friday: Total Body Saturday: Full Body / Upper Body Focus Sunday: Total Body Choose your poison wisely. The locker rooms are towards the back of the building separated of course between men and women. Inside the locker room you'll find large towels to take a shower there, the lockers to put your stuff while you're working out, and body rubs and soaps by Oribe. As far as the cost of Barry's Bootcamp goes: it's not cheap. Not cheap at all. More expensive than Equinox, Orangetheory Fitness, Life Time Fitness... honestly I think Barry's is now one of the most expensive gyms to workout at in Houston now. I took the class as a guest because the actual class is quite expensive I have heard. I've been at Orange Theory before and had heard it's just a better version of it and has better amenities like fresh and cold towels . I found the workout similar to orange theory where you switch between tread mills and floor exercises during sprints. The thing I'd have appreciated more was when the trainer was walking us through the floor exercise he could have showed it to us how to do it. It seemed more on the fly. The person would find a spot while everyone was already asked to do and then show what to do. So if you aren't much familiar with the floor exercises you might just sit there and wait for others to learn what to do. read more

Love Barry's - have visited studios in multiple states and always love the great workout and 10/10 experience. Wish I could say the same about this location. While the workout itself was great, the facility was disgusting. The floor material and weights rubbed off onto my skin/clothes, permanently staining and taking a ton of soap to get off of. The floor was so slick from a lack of cleaning and needs replacing. This was unacceptable and I unfortunately will not be returning to this location. read more

I tried this out on a Sunday, which is a Total Body workout day, which in my mind, is the best exercise routine. The staff was extremely nice and our trainer was super energetic and motivating. They split the group up into people on the treadmill, and then people on the workout floor. You run through 2 rounds of treadmill, floor, treadmill, floor. On the treadmill, they vary either your incline or your speed and really motivate you to step up your game. On the floor, you do various exercises from strength training, to HIIT, to abs. The music is great and the energy is fun. read more

Definitely worth a trial run at a minimum. Got a couple free classes through work and have to say, if you want to feel the burn you will get your butt kicked at these sessions. The full body works everything from upper-body to cardio you mix in a few sessions of each with their instructor encouraging you along the way. The facilities are in the old fleet feet location and they have transformed the space into a bit of a yoga/workout central. They have the post workout shake concept that I heard good things about but yet to try. Really welcoming overall though from the entry as a new trial member throughout the first workout it is all very intuitive. The price is high and if you already have another membership or active with anything else its hard to justify the price point. That is basically my only complaint about this place. Aside from that as a new member you can get the first four classes at a more reasonable 20 a session. Glad to have tried it but unless the price structure changes will enjoy the remaining classes and find another alternative. read more

This place isn't diverse at all, which is understanding considering the area so that was expected. The instructor made it a point to continuously pronounce my name wrong, and they're extremely fatphobic. The front desk staff gave insinuating and condescending glances (micro-aggressions seeing that I am both black and plus-sized). If you're not advanced in your fitness journey, a POC, or a "gym rat," I would avoid this place like a plague. They go so fast that you'd risk an injury because you have no time to focus on form (I have a PT, so I'm aware of several of the weight training positions we focused on during the class, but this wasn't at all best practice for training), nor do they provide modifications or accommodations. read more

Alright, I want to start by saying. I have always been an active, self-motivated person. However, when I hit my late 20s early 30s, my motivation decreased. I started to get depressed and gain weight. I went from a very fit person to an unfit career woman. I was over eating and having no time to work out. I've tried every gym. LA fitness (Which is ridiculous, crowded, and with people-hugging machines.), I tried the orange theory, but it didn't fit. I tried the Houstonian, 24-hour fitness, and personal trainers, etc... One day I was driving around and saw Barry's and wondered what it was. I've never been up at 4:30 AM for a 5:30 AM class In my life. But one thing, I will wake up for Barry's. I love the push, motivation, mental strength, the after-feeling of the workout, and seeing people in the class so fit which motivates you to push yourself to get to that level. After, taking 10 classes my body feels different. Now, I walk 2 miles after I eat lunch, which gives me more energy. I was worried about the cost but I think the classes are worth it. I've taken Thomas's classes (Houston Barry's) and the guy does not mess around! He pushes you and his words will keep you on your toes! I signed up for the two class trial for Rice University students. I was a little nervous to try out Barry's just because I heard that everyone is fit and athletic. But it wasn't the case at all! I did total body classes. You switch between floor (weights) and the treadmill 2-3 times in the 50 minute class, depending on the instructor. On the treadmill, the instructor gives you a range of speeds to run at at a certain time so you can set your own pace. The running was the most difficult for me because I am not a runner but the loud upbeat music really helps you get through it. You also see a lot of people struggling again. I think something you have to keep in mind is that this workout is meant to be difficult for everyone because you push yourself and set your own pace. The weights were mostly for upper body and core exercises. The instructors were very motivational and don't call you out if you're tired or underperforming like some other fitness studios. I really appreciate that. I'd love to come back! It's just a little pricey for college students. read more

I recently went to Barry's in Houston for my first Barry's bootcamp work out, and I was very impressed. Specifically, the staff at the Barry's Houston location was amazing to work with. I called the studio regarding pricing for a first time class, and because of a promotion currently running, I was able to take one class for free since it was my first time. The staff member set me up with the class easily over the phone, and I arrived 10 minutes early. When I arrived, the staff was incredibly friendly and showed me the lockers and walked me to the class, introducing me to the instructor. I took the Lift class (Arms and Abs), which is a lifting workout (unlike the typical treadmill / weights class that you usually think of with Barry's). The instructor, Pinij, was great and had amazing energy. He was super supportive throughout the class and I definitely left feeling like my arms and abs were sufficiently worked out. I've been to a number of fitness studios in Houston (via ClassPass), and I'd say this studio is well run, one of the prettiest I've seen in Houston, and one of the friendliest in terms of staff and trainers.
