I worked at Dish 20 years ago, when it was owned by Nader and then later by Monica. It was an incredible place to work as someone in there 20s. Fast forward to 20 years later when I'm visiting my aging parents and I want to go there for brunch. The place has only gotten better. My dad called it one of the best meals he has ever had in Nebraska. Our server was fantastic. Also, reminder, Nebraskans, you haven't raised the tipped minimum wage in 20 years; it's still $2.13 an hour, that is a travesty. The food was incredibly fresh and delicious. The service was top notch. Professional, appropriate, everything you would want. If you are in Nebraska or ever visiting, this is one of the best meals you can have in Nebraska. Very good option if you are in Lincoln. It is an spacious restaurant, with distanced tables and a cool atmosphere overall. Food is great. Nicely cooked vegetable and short option of good entrees. Great basil vodka cocktail, I had duck. All really good. Service was fast and nice. We went in a Monday evening prior to New Year's Eve. We had reservations for 6:30. We ordered an appetizer of bacon wrapped dates which were great. Ordered a bottle of cab but can't remember which one! The four of us had various entrées of beef, salmon, and pasta. All great flavor and cooked to our liking. Forgot to take photos too. I've been dying to try this place and a few weeks ago a couple friends recommended we do dinner here as it's one of their favorites. The atmosphere has a simple elegance feel. The tables are spacious and chairs comfortable. We were quickly greeted and didn't wait at all for a table. Our server was very pleasant and our order was taken quickly. You can bring your own bottle of wine, but there is a bottle opening fee (15.00), so not sure how much it ends up being worth it but it is an option. There are a lot of gf options already labeled on the menu and then the server informed me that some items can be easily made gluten free if I really wanted them. I had the pan seared scallops and risotto which was amazing. The scallops were huge and perfectly cooked and the risotto was delicious. I also had the creme brûlée for dessert which was pretty good. One of my friends also had the scallops and the other had the steak salad and both were happy with their choices. Portion sizes were pretty much perfect and cost is slightly pricey but well worth it for the quality, flavor, and portion size. I made a reservation on Open Table for 7:30, arriving a few minutes early and was still promptly seated. However, I can't review the food since my husband and I sat there for 20 minutes without even a drink order being taken or any servers approaching the table or making eye contact. There were other people seated right after and and next us who had drinks right away along with their food orders. I let management know my displeasure and promptly walked out. I tried to leave a review on Open Table but they deleted my reservation. I don't recommend a restaurant with poor attention to detail, poor service, and a limited and slightly pretentious menu. My triumphant return to Dish for dinner tool place last weekend before a show at the Haymarket Theater. I had the duck (refined fat). Bill had the Korean burger (delicious mess). And we started with the spicy hummus (blue cheese spice city). Maybe those aren't the best adjectives to use but they're all true and meant to be complimentary. This time I enjoyed the hummus a lot more, apparently. And our meals were solid. We had a nice server and good drinks as well, and I would for sure dine at Dish again. read more

Did Sunday brunch here. I appreciate the creativity of the chef to make their dishes unique and interesting. However, they are way too salty. This problem becomes very apparent after you take a few bites. We ordered French toast and breakfast burrito. Both are very very very salty, and I could not finish any of the dishes for this reason. Attended brunch on Sunday A.M. with family. Had high expectations as this was supposed to be higher end dining. The facility was good, expect renovated loft type atmosphere. Service was attentive and friendly. Food service was rather slow but didn't bother us as we were visiting. Even if you label your food as "fine" dining and you utilize many unusual additions, you must back this up with excellent tasting food. The pastry basket ($25) was hugely disappointing. They have a pastry chef listed on limited menu. It appeared they did not work Sundays as the item tasted and appeared to be day old, The cinnamon rolls and scones were hard and dry. Even the delicious butters with the scones could not rescue them. Taste good but when you went to cut item they shattered into crumbs. Like a dry cookie. Our table ordered 8 different entrees and while not bad---very disappointing. Expect more at this price point. Everyone's food was just OK with dryness cited as major complaint. I've had better tasting food at chain breakfast sites at a fraction of the price (Village Inn, Perkins). By the way, please don't put kale in every item because it's in style and vogue. Overall---very disappointed. Didn't live up to the hype for a $260 bill. Sorry but fine tuning the operation is in order. read more

Everything we ate at Dish was spectacular - from the brioche with warm butter to the smoked pork shoulder with cornbread and kale. We especially liked a small plate with cherries, beets, a blue cheese, and fresh mint. Service was warm and attentive. We visited on our way from Denver to Chicago to visit our elderly parents so we really appreciated how every staff member was well masked and they cleaned the tables thoroughly after each guest - made us feel at ease. Overall I enjoyed this restaurant. I started with an Apricot Old Fashioned, the process was pretty cool they used a smoke machine to add smoke to the drink which was served in a small mason jar type glass and the smoke was sealed in with a twist top. When I opened the glass the aroma of a bonfire (in a good way) came to my nose and the drink was not overpowered by the smoke. Next I went for the Oyster Mushroom Confit and Thai-Spiced Duck. The mushrooms were really good with great flavor and balance. The duck was also pretty good, but was overly salty. I love salt and don't think I have ever complained that a dish is overly-salty, but this one was. The duck was cooked perfectly and the dish was good, just a little salty. Also, the Yelp site said there was a TV and there was not. I travel for business so it can get boring sitting at the bar alone, the restaurant was pretty empty (I was the only person at the bar), so I wished that there actually was a TV - A small reason as to why I picked this restaurant, the main one being the reviews and type of food served. read more

Chef Rachel McGill and partner Mary Pat Heineman have done it again. After an amazing Fifth Anniversary celebration dinner, especially fitting after surviving as a business during the pandemic, they are out with a new menu (Sept '21). My husband and I went for dinner and again we're wow'd. Dish is simply one of the absolute top restaurants in Lincoln. Menu creativity, service and ambiance are unmatched. We started with Honey sesame Broiche rolls and Fried Chicken Lollipops with a Gorchujang Glaze. Wow. Then we shared a Sweet n Sour Duck Leg over a sushi rice pancake and pickled garlic with a cilantro aioli. Then came a Beet and Stone Fruit salad that blew us away. Beets with peach, nectarine, sweet dark cherry, blue cheese, hazelnut n sunflower seeds with a fennel and mint garnish. It was as beautiful as it tasted. We finished splitting a main course of Fried Chicken, coconut kale and a basil biscuit that was simply inspired. There is definitely an Asian twist to this seasonal menu but holy buckets it's a home run. Just GO! read more

Fantastic meal! I had the crispy mango duck, which was so tasty. Crisp (go figure) and flavorful skin, tender juicy meat, and a banging mango sauce! Just wish there had been more of the sauce...I could have bathed in it. The green beans were bright and tender but not mushy, crisp and delicious. I also asked for a different side, and the server easily accommodated me! Delish mashed sweet potatoes. We got there at 6, but they had to have us leave at 7:15 for a private party but I didn't feel rushed at all. I feel like I still got the full experience. Dish is, in Lincoln terms, *expensive.* Luckily, it's good enough that I didn't feel totally robbed. One of the very few places in town that I would consider upscale. I took my girlfriend here yesterday for a nice dinner. We got in around 5:30, and the place was hardly a third full. I really liked the interior; very modern and elegant, but with a dash of casual decor. It's dark and ambient, with good mood lighting. There are also various multicolored paintings lining the walls, giving it that swanky feel. The mirror behind the full bar has etched glass, with shapes that could either represent a city skyline, or couples holding hands. It was nice and upscale, without being over-the-top or pretentious. The menu is rather spendy, but it all looks appetizing. For drinks I got the Gin Fizz ($9), and she got the Rum Punch Martini (~$8). Mine was interesting, took a few sips to get used to. It was Bombay Sapphire gin, cream and a mint sprig, and was smooth and refreshing. The lady's drink came with a plastic skewer with three dum dum's, and she said it was good and fruity. And now for the actual food. I ordered the grilled duck breast ($24), and she ordered the braised short ribs ($24). While we waited, which was not long at all, the waitress brought out some rolls, butter, olive oil and vinegar. The rolls were pretty good. When our food finally came out, I was delighted at the presentation, even if the portions were a bit on the small side. The duck slices themselves seemed reasonable, and were very tender and delicious. The sauteed spinach and mashed sweet potatoes were somewhat lacking in quantity, although decent in quality. My girlfriend said her short ribs and broccoli were very good, as well. For desert, the waitress brought out a try of all the samples, and we selected the chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream (~$5). It came out on a nice blue glass dish, and not only looked amazing, but tasted amazing, too. My ladyfriend pointed out that the waitress did her job perfectly, and showed just the right amount of attention. She was attentive and friendly, but didn't hover unnecessarily. All in all, the damage came out to 76 bucks for the two of us. Definitely not cheap, but for a once-in-a-blue-moon outing, I didn't mind too much. It was a wonderful experience. read more

I hadn't been here in years and my boyfriend and I went this past weekend. It has gone downhill. First, they had no sweet white wine on the menu. Bizarre but fine. I ordered the salmon and my boyfriend got the lamb. The lamb was mostly fat and he only was able to actually eat a tiny bit of it. My salmon came out not fully cooked and I couldn't eat it. It was between normally cooked salmon and sushi - a gelatinous foul texture. I told the waitress and all she did was apologize. No offer to make it right or remake it or take something off our bill. If you're looking for a fine dining experience, go to Casa Bovina. More expensive but impeccable service, amazing food and just a better overall experience. We recently went there for lunch and the place was absolutely dead - sign number 1! Two, the menu had changed. Great place. We (party of 6) dined there on Wednesday April 29th and enjoyed it. Good food, great selection, speed of service was about right, personable server, and good atmosphere. We had heard a little about DISH from some others at the industry conference we were attending and I walked by it about 5:30pm heading to my hotel to look up a place for dinner for the six of us. When I walked by the delicious smells outside was enough to entice me into the restaurant to make a RSVP for 7:45pm. We arrived at 7:45pm and were immediately seated. We ordered scallop toast as well as crab cake appetizers. Both GREAT. For entrées I had the steak with chimichurri sauce, one person had the duck, another two the scallops, and the last two had the chicken and the risotto. Everyone thought the food was well presented, about right for the $$ spent, and ate every drop of it. We enjoyed the dinner very much. We didn't order any desserts but saw a couple of deserts that almost had us. Back to my hotel by 9pm, so service had to been about typical for such an establishment. Many years I come to Lincoln on business for a day or three. When I return, I will also return to DISH. read more
