I went to dish last year in October for our anniversary. The staff were wonderful and very helpful. For the price I was expecting a much smaller meal but their portions are quite generous! We started out with their cheese plate which was really good. I got the salmon and the hubby got the scallops both entrees were wonderful. I remember loving the kale they had with my salmon. Their wine selection was really nice they were very helpful when it came to choosing one to pair with our meals. I dont remember what we got for dessert but they were both wonderful and neither of us shared with each other. Dish has a nice atmosphere and excellent food I would highly recommend this restaurant for a nice dinner/date. read more

And please don't cut my steak up for me, it gets cold and the juices escape. Their cocktails and food have become increasingly expensive for what one gets. It's hard to justify the expense when a short drive to Omaha provides much higher quality options for a similar price point. I'll say that their cocktail flavors are winning lately. read more

This place is awful. It came highly recommended from a few people in town, however, this is before they recently changed the menu. The menu is basically tapas. There's obviously a turnover in management as well. I would not recommend this place it definitely does not even meet your basic expectations. There are plenty of great restaurants in this town! This was not only the best restaurant I have been to in Lincoln, but one of the best I have been to in America. My dinner started with the Grapes on Grapes on Grapes cocktail, which was an autumn version of a champagne cocktail. I loved it! And the presentation, with a clove stuck through the lemon peel, was a nice touch. Then came the cauliflower and chorizo appetizer. Sooooooo good. And the main - a petit filet with coffee and porcini mushrooms, plus parsnips, broccolini and sweet potato spheres - was seriously one of the best dishes I have ever had in my life. To top it off, I had the "first snow" dessert, which was absolutely delightful. Choosing that desert was a challenge as you can tell from the photo. Ultimately, the food and cocktails at DISH are Michelin-star worthy. And to top it off, the wine list was great and not overpriced like so many restaurants. She was named a semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation's: Best Chef Midwest in 2022, and she appeared on Chopped in the episode that aired August 15th, 2023. In the past, I have always gone to DISH for dinner; on this occasion, I decided to try something new and go to brunch. DISH serves brunch only on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. I took a friend with me for brunch, and we arrived shortly before they opened as we had a reservation right at 10:00. We knew we were a few minutes early and didn't mind waiting outside. However, the staff was friendly right from the beginning, coming out to let us in. Once we got in the door, the host and servers continued to be warm and welcoming. We had made a reservation for the patio, but as it was cooler and windier than the weather had called for, they asked if we would prefer to eat inside, which we did. Upon arriving at the restaurant, it was immediately apparent that the atmosphere was different for brunch than dinner. When going to DISH for Dinner, the servers wear dress clothes, there is softer music playing, and the lights are dim; as you would expect for a nice dinner. Brunch has a less serious, more laid-back atmosphere. The servers all have matching T-shirts that say "Hot Mess" across the front. Adding to the change in atmosphere is that the music is 90's and early 2000s throwbacks turned up to a louder volume, a significant contrast to the usual soft dinner music. Overall, I found these changes to be a fun and refreshing twist on their brunch service. As we got settled, our server was friendly and helpful, getting our drink orders and asking if we wanted suggestions. We both got a cocktail, the breakfast wine spritz, including white wine, grapefruit, elderflower, and soda. This cocktail struck a balance between sweet, fresh, and a little bitter with carbonation from the soda water that tickles your nose as you go to take the first drink. Once we had a chance to review the menu, we ordered a pastry and French press coffee before the entrees. I was curious about the pastries as I have heard positive reviews of DISH's talented pastry chef Mary. The pastry we chose to split was a chocolate, salted caramel babka. I always get a bit nervous ordering breakfast pastries, as they often end up tougher or drier than I would prefer. However, neither of those terms could be applied to this tender, flavorful babka. The rich swirls of chocolate and caramel are kept from being too sweet by the twinge of salt in the salted caramel that helps provide balance. While we ate our babka, we also sipped our French-pressed coffee, served by bringing the French press to the table. This was a nice touch as you could smell the coffee when they set it down, and your mouth waters and anticipation builds as you wait to press down the plunger on the French press and enjoy fresh, bold coffee. As we got to the entrees, it wasn't easy to choose. Our server helpfully suggested that if we planned to share the entrees, we get one savory and one sweet. We decided on this, ordering the lemon ricotta pancakes with lemon curd and blueberry syrup and the breakfast burrito with steak, eggs, hashbrowns, and cheese. Upon reading the descriptions of these items, they both sound like standard brunch dishes. However, one of the many things that DISH does well is their attention to detail and how they execute their dishes. The lemon ricotta pancakes were pillowy and sweet, with just a little bit of a crust on the outside while being fluffy on the inside. The sweet blueberry sauce paired with the lemon curd balanced the sweetness by adding tart and fresh flavors. The attention to detail got me again with the breakfast burrito as everything in it was perfectly layered and wrapped so that it had one perfect, sharp cut, splitting the burrito in half. Meanwhile, each half held up perfectly without even a crumb of the filling falling out until you took the first bite. As you raise the burrito to take the first bite, the smell of smoked meat wafts up to your nose before the burrito reaches your mouth. When you take that first bite the flavors and textures explode. The soft eggs, crispy meat and potatoes, crunchy pickled onions, and kale provide a rainbow of textures and flavors. The meat and potatoes are salty, while the pickled red onion adds a briney note, and the kale gives a slight earthiness. The price per person to eat at a DISH can vary quite a bit depending on whether you plan to eat brunch or dinner and what you order; the average would be about $60-85 a person for dinner, and $25-45 a person for brunch. I have always stated that if God wanted us to be vegetarians he would of have veggies come from cows. The steak dinner is the manliest of all meals and dish can make the "girliest" of guys be a man for a few hours. This place is OUTSTANDING, yes I gave it an OUTSTANDING. Yes! I was in town with family for an event and this was the one meal we had to ourselves and I am so happy we had it at Dish! The staff was wonderful from the start. We were extremely late for our reservation and were trying to work around a work phone for one person for the first third of the meal. Everyone was completely friendly and asked how we wanted to handle the person on the phone and then stuck with the plan. We were recommended a delicious bottle of wine and my mom and I enjoyed our cocktails as well. Our meals were all delicious. The appetizers stood out to me as relatively generous, there were six scallop bruschetta servings in one order! Our entrees were two steaks, a pork chop special and scallops and we were all very very happy. I was especially impressed with my pork chops, sometimes they become boring after the first few bites, but I loved all of this. The desserts were all a little abstract which was interesting. We were hoping for a few traditional options, but enjoyed the chocolate cheesecake we ordered. On another night we would have been more excited about deconstructed apple pie, but I'm not about to complain about someone putting extra thought and effort into the dessert menu. read more

I've lived in several large American cities in my life and ate here while passing through on a road trip. Everything we tried was delicious, and I have zero reservations about giving it a full five stars. The appetizers we tried included the fried chicken lollipop, fennel and cherry salad, cannellini beans, paglia e fieno, mushroom main, and fried chicken main. Visited on a Saturday night around 8 PM. The place was only about half-full, though we were certainly not the last party to be seated. They did seem to do a good job catering to the later crowd. Our experience was far from perfect, however. Calling the service "standoffish" would be a compliment. Our server was rude to us from the moment I asked for another glass of water because the one she brought me had something floating in it. From that point forward, she did only the bare minimum to fulfill her job duties. Other servers there seemed much friendlier, and even she seemed to be more outgoing toward her other tables. We started with the crab dip, which was a greasy, broken mess. Honestly, it looked like cat food and didn't taste much better on the cold slices of garlic toast. The highlight of my meal was the vegetable beef soup, which, (unsurprisingly) our server did NOT point out, was made from smoked beef; it lended a nice roundness to the broth. Unfortunately, this was the point in the meal when our server brought some rock-hard bread and rancid olive oil over to the table. The act of setting down the bread basket knocked over the drink list, which she had forgotten to take. This, in turn, spilled over my half-full beer bottle. At this point, she took away the drink list and muttered, "I'll get you some seltzer." Great, another two items she'd forget to clear from the table all night. As for our main courses, my companion had the Asian Sea Grill. Everything on it was well-cooked and flavorful, especially the scallops. Unfortunately, the shrimp were poor-quality and grainy. I am not a vegetarian, but noticed they had three veg-friendly dishes on the main menu. I ordered the Curried Tofu out of curiosity, and it was actually quite good - both complex and satisfying enough that I did not miss the meat in my main course. For dessert, we shared a Baked Alaska, which was good but not great - heavy on the orange sherbet and light on the spongecake around the edges. Still, points for bringing vintage desserts back into fashion. With all of this costing about $50/person (with a drink each), there are many other places in town I'd rather give my money for better food and service. My feelings were confirmed as we left and not one of the three people mulling around the host stand thanked us for our visit. read more

This is my choice for finer dining in town. It's not on the same page as places in Chicago or the bay area, but it is my top pick for special occasion dining. It tops JTK or the Venue by far. You'll be delighted by the food. I've had two different types of duck each time, my girl friend has had fish or seafood each trip. If you're in the mood for well prepared food for a classy night, this is the place. Service is good and the wine list is OK. This is my absolute favorite restaurant in Lincoln. Their menu is constantly changing to something that goes with the time of season we are in. Several times I have ordered something on the menu that I wasn't very excited about, but then it ended up being one of the best meals I have ever had. It's no secret at work that I spend a good chunk of non-chargeable time reading, writing, and reviewing my favorite spots, so when you're co-workers find out you Yelp, be prepared to be the Chosen One for picking restaurants. If you find yourself in Lincoln, this place is a must. Why? If for anything, for the boursin mashed potatoes. To die for. I don't even like mashed potatoes. It's a texture thing. Weird textures make me make funny faces and it's quite embarrassing to look it. This one time at a restaurant not to be disclosed I ordered a piece of brisket that was entirely too chewy and fatty for me. It was kind of expensive and I did not want my dining companion to know and so I tried with all my desperate might to conceal the fact that I was hardcore gagging and wishing for time to go at lightning speed so I could be done with dinner. Mashed potatoes used to make me feel that way, but now I see the light a little more, and have accepted it as a part of many meals. Aside from, I absolutely loved my salmon and found it to be the perfect size and flavor. Others were impressed with their chicken dish. Someone ordered blue cheese hummus but I hate blue cheese so I didn't touch it. But they said it was good, so... go for it! The menu was not overly adventurous but be adventurous and get something de-lish. On the negative, service was a little slow. Maybe they saw we were all co-workers and decided we wanted to spend a little more time together to talk about non-work things. Unfortunately, we had been together 11 hours already, so the best that could happen was intermittent conversation here and there, and staring at the bizarre clock on the wall above the entrance. Time ticked slowly by... slowly, slowly, slowly. Next time, hopefully more speedy. All in all a great find. Just make sure you get those potatoes. read more

I ate dinner with my mother at Dish mid-July so this review is unfortunately reliant on my spotty memory, but I will definitely be dining here again soon! The decor was modern, not unique exactly, but comfortably familiar to some of the high-end restaurants I love so much in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Brooklyn. Everyone inside seem to be quite relaxed and in a mixture of casual/business attire. Our waiter was quite helpful and friendly. We were in the mood to pepper him with all sorts of questions and he gave us insightful opinions of different dishes. The menu was interesting, including a spicy blue cheese hummus that we didn't decided to save for when my father comes to town. My mother ordered the tomato basil soup and the daily fish special, while I chose the potato leek soup du jour and the crispy mango duck. Everything that we ate was delicious and immaculately prepared. I was particularly please with the duck skin -- cooked to perfection! Bottom line: this will be one of my go-to "special" event spots. Great cocktails and great food - what's not to like! I was in Lincoln on business and had the evening by myself. I'd walked by Dish on my earlier visits and decided to try it out this time. I was there on a Wednesday night, and it was fairly quiet, which suited me as I pulled up a seat at the bar. I was greeted by Teresa behind the bar and quickly learned that she had the cocktail mixing chops to go with the excellent selection of liquor and liqueurs behind the bar. She made me a two speciality cocktails, with a Scapa single malt whiskey sandwiched in between, and all were excellent. The off menu dinner and dessert specials that she suggested were also spot on. The shrimp and scallps were perfectly grilled and served with jasmine rice, spinach and a pepper pesto type creation. The portion size was just right. Dessert was an amazing homemade vanilla ice cream on top of a pecan chocolate brownie with rasberries, black cherries and an incredible Bailey's Irish Cream sauce. It was awesome! My husband and I had dinner on a Saturday night a couple of weeks ago. We decided to sit on the patio, which may have been a mistake because service was very slow. I'm not sure if it was just because we were out of our server's line of vision, or because this is how they operate. Our water glasses sat empty for 30 mins before being refilled, we waited a while to even put our order in, it took a while to get our cocktails we ordered, we wanted dessert, but then decided to skip it because we were sick of waiting for the waiter to bring the menu! Overall, the food was very good by Lincoln's standards. We had stuffed jalapenos for an appetizer, which were delicious but VERY spicy (hence why we needed those water glasses filled!) and I had the crab cakes that came with a nice salad. read more

I decided to treat myself after all of the high school basketball teams decided to take over my hotel. It was pretty empty on a week night so I had no problem getting seated without reservations. The waitress came to see what I wanted to drink, but I had already made up my mind on the crispy mango duck. I love mangos and I love duck so that was a pretty easy choice and it did not disappoint. I loved the crispy duck skin with the sweet flavoring of the mango glaze sauce. It reminded me of peking duck at chinese restaurants, with out the buns... and it was all for myself. What a find! Ambiance was mediocre but not terrible. But the food was amaaaaaazing. I got the salmon dish which was bursting with so many complementary flavors. Salmon cooked to perfection (not overdone), with a grilled corn, cherry tomato and zucchini medley (marinated courgettes), basil oil, crumbled pistachio, fresh basil and some sort of secret sauce that pulled it all together. After eating at tons of places on a trip to Colorado this was our last stop on the way back home. EVERYTHING we ordered was VERY good. The consistency deserves 5 stars in my opinion. Pear Martini: 5 stars Strong and my favorite drink of the entire trip. Nothing THAT special, just plain good. Crab cakes: 4 stars I thought they had excellent flavor but friend wasn't as thrilled. Scallop bruschetta: 5 stars Only because it was so simple but the bread and scallops were done PERFECTLY. Seafood Penne Pasta: 4.5 stars Im being picky by not giving this 5 stars. Read the ingredients - that's exactly what you get and everything works together extremely well. I also had one bite of the beef tenderloin and would give It 4.5 stars. We have eaten at Dish and supported them each time we've stopped in Lincoln, plus spoken well of them to traveling friends. Our experience had been that both the service and the food had always been good. In addition, we normally don't take up a table for very long. This time we stopped as we always do, on a "walk in" basis around 8pm (this was at 8.10p.m.) and were summarily refused service. (Tables were available.) We returned to our hotel, were welcomed, were served an enjoyable meal with no hesitation, and we then retired for the evening. At that point, I checked on-line as to Dish's hours of service and saw that for mid-week evenings (this was a Tuesday) their hours went to 8.30pm, twenty minutes after we had called in. I don't know whether they had simply made enough for the day, or what. I do know that we were extremely disappointed in their attitude, and I'm not sure we will return, given their lack of graciousness. Not what we needed after an 8 hour drive... read more

When I'm up for a high class dining experience I go to this restaurant and it never fails to deliver. The Mango Duck with Basmati rich is the dish I get time after time and it's consistently good. My wife get's the Asian Seafood Medley and it can be hit and miss. The service can be a little slow when it's busy but they are not pretentious and bloated like JTK's. If you want a classy night out in Lincoln this is the spot, it blows the doors off the Venue. read more

A small, city restaurant serving unique food, especially for Lincoln, Nebraska. Flawless presentation of the duck as well as the scallops. The poached pear dessert was marvellous and reminded me of Christmas. Excellent waitstaff and friendly, not intrusive serving. My only gripe is the "standard" 5oz pour for wine by the glass and not what I'm used to, a 6oz pour. Cha-Ching, five glasses of wine from one bottle not four. One of the few true foodie places in Lincoln, NE, where you can get an excellent meal. It's not perfect - and if this were NY City or Seattle, it might have a lot of stiff competition - but for Lincoln it's definitely deserving of a high rating. Servers are and bartenders definitely know their stuff. I've had dishes with scallops twice and am always amazed you can get scallops this good in this part of the country. My only complaint is that the side items are a little unimaginative and repetitive. About every other dish is offered with broccoli, the freshness and flavor of which is always good, but which is served with no creativity - just plopped on the dish with no fanfare at all. That's the sort of ingredient presentation and usage I'd expect at my 90 year old grandma's house for Sunday dinner. read more

I really enjoyed dining at DISH. My favorite part of the meal was how noticeably fresh all of the food was. DISH prides itself on sourcing local ingredients, and it definitely shows through in the quality and flavor of their entrees. I had the duck and it was absolutely amazing. Dish is alright - the wine selection is great (they even have Opus, if you can afford it) and the atmosphere is very posh. They are even open over lunch - which is great for business meetings downtown. That's really the extent of my praise for Dish, and it makes me sad. I went here expecting gourmet food, and what I found was bar/grill style food with fancy names and nicer garnishes. If you're going to dinner with someone who is afraid of edgy cuisine Dish is a safe bet, because even if you call them pomme frites, they're still just french fries. read more

Great food, great ambiance, terrific prices. Just tried this place last week on the advice of a friend and went back the very next day. The signature cocktails are terrific (I had a Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and for only $8.50, you can't beat the price. I can't speak to all of the dishes, but I loved the grilled shrimp salad and ordered it again the next day. Hummus appetizer was also good. I live in L.A. and maybe it just reminds me of a hip L.A. restaurant but with Nebraska prices. This is a great place for a date or just to meet up with friends. Unfortunately for me, I always forget about this place when it comes to selecting a restaurant. This is an elegant, modern and creative restaurant, a great addition to Lincoln's dining scene. The menu is varied, with interesting cocktails, sandwiches, entrees and salads. The last time I was here I started with a mixed green salad with buttermilk-pumpkin seed dressing. Unfortunately, it was nothing to write home about. My entree was the falafal sandwich, which seemed under-dressed until I bit in. It was deliciously spiced with cilantro and drizzled with Thai Sriracha. One of the nicest things about this place is that it does serve lowered priced and lighter fare. Sometimes I just want a creative sandwich, not a $30 steak. This is a nice place to impress out-of-town guests, who think that Nebraska is hicksville or full of steakhouses.
