I used to love watching my dad drive. He was such a good driver. Always between the lines. Always cooler than the other side of the pillow. The ferry employees have their loading and unloading methods down to a fine science. Clear hand signals. Calm demeanors. I'm a fan. My parents were here hours before us and had to wait over an hour just to get on a ferry. When we showed up - probably because we had all the hungry, hyper, small bladder kids - we didn't wait but a few minutes. And the kids all got to move around in the truck cabs, but not out of our trucks. We loved the dolphins racing along side us and doing their cool tricks in the bay. Best part of it all... The ferry is free. But boy was Port Aransas (affectionately referred to as "Port A" by locals and frequent visitors) packed on 6.19.2025! Fun Fact One ferry is named after Arnold W. Oliver who my granddad went to school with (I think) back in the 50s. Cool stuff! If there's even a chance he could read this, miss you, love you, Granddad!

I called and asked for a cab ride from the Lexington to the Convention Center…read more The dispatcher says 10 minutes. It's raining so we are waiting in the ship at the top of the walkway for the shuttle. My friend went to the bathroom while we were waiting. Well, the cab shows up in 3 minutes and I get a call. I tell them we still need a ride and that we'll come down as soon as my friend gets out of the bathroom. When he does, the shuttle is just leaving to go back down the walkway. I call the number back to say that we missed the shuttle this time, but will be on the next one. But, I only got a voicemail, not an actual person. It's still raining hard. So we wait for the next shuttle trip. We get on the shuttle and look down to make sure the cab is still waiting and it was. Well, when the shuttle gets to the bottom, the cab is gone. I called the dispatcher back and he said that the "driver had left for another fare. It will take 35 minutes to get another driver there." I asked why the driver couldn't have waited 30 seconds at least for the shuttle to get to the bottom. But, he didn't care and just said "Sorry, it's raining." Such poor customer service. I have now been waiting almost 35 minutes for a different taxi company to show up.

I guess Covid only lives in vehicles that are driven on the beach. Who knew? So, in the Eleventh hour, we found Dana (pronounced Donna) at Port A Jeeps. Dana was very transparent, and said it was slower than usual, with the recent silly ban. She offered me a vehicle, at a very reasonable price, and even offered to deliver it to our RV park, several miles down the road. Deal! When we returned the vehicle, she even took us back to our RV park. All in all, Port A Jeeps provides extremely clean vehicles, at competitive pricing. As far as Dana- we cannot speak enough about her. In an era where Customer Service has died, she was a true gem, and we enjoyed chatting with her. In fact, if we ever open a business in Port A, I'd up the bid, and try to steal her away! 5 Stars; we will rent here again!
