Review # 38. Located in the tunnels right under the Kinder-Morgan building. There are stairs right when you walk in the building and it's located right there. Only open for lunch. We arrived at 11:30 and the line was out the door. I was worried it was going to take forever but the line moved quick and we were served very fast being the amount of people there. We were out by 12:10. This is second time eating at District 7, but first time at this location. Just like the the other location the food did no disappoint!!! I ordered the pesto shrimp salad and it was delicious and filling. My friend ordered the burger and he raved about it!! Success!!! I can't imagine what the line is like at noon. I got the Ahi Tuna flat bread with yam fries. First off I had the Ahi Tuna rare and not sure why its still very dry. I had it with yam fries and the portion of the yam fries was so little. The Ahi Tuna was ok. At the end of the meal there is free complementary ice cream. Not sure if I had too much ice cream or there is something wrong with the ice cream itself or the cone. I especially like trying there daily specials which usually is some tasty fish plate. The line always seems long, but it actually goes quick. I was the second person in for lunch hour but it took more than 25 minutes to get a hamburger. The meat tasted like it was defrosted (for $14). I know that this place recently opened back up after shutting down for covid, but with so many good options in the tunnels I don't think I'll be back. if my coworkers and I venture out this far to the tunnels and still haven't made a decision with other restaurants along the way, this is not a bad place to settle and get lunch especially for a big group. You look at the paper menus on the right when you enter the door and head over to the cashier to order. They give you a number and drinks are self serve. Service is fairly quick depending on what time you come, the menu has a variety of options and there's plenty of tables. The soft serve ice cream is a hit or miss regarding if the machine is working or not that day. I've been here several times and haven't had any qualms. They ran out of mahi-mahi when I was trying to order the blackened mahi-mahi salad and the cashier mentioned they can do red fish instead. I agreed to it and also asked they sub my romaine lettuce with spinach leaves with dressing on the side and they were accommodating. To my surprise the red fish was well cooked and great. As simple as the salad was, it satisfied my taste buds. The lemon garlic vinaigrette dressing was a nice touch to the overall salad and a good dip for my red fish. I have had the blackened mahi-mahi salad before and it was also tasty. I've also had the bison buffalo burger and it was decent. Overall this place isn't my go to when I'm having lunch downtown but it's one of my choices if the coworkers I'm with don't agree with my top choices. read more

I don't really like eating in the downtown tunnels. It's overpriced and crowded. The food is mediocre. Service shoddy. Having said that, I also dislike sitting at my desk all day, every day, and sometimes I just want to get out. Insert District 7 Grill. It's close to my office and if I go after the lunch rush there are no crowds. I have tried their specials sometimes, with mixed luck. Noone ever seems to know where the fish comes from, and I'm a wild caught fish snob, so I just stopped ordering fish. The salads are pretty good. The burgers are delicious. There's a mustard aioli that I really like to dip my fries in. I don't like that it costs over $15 for a burger and fries (no drink), but I suppose they have to make rent, too, and I'm paying for convenience. Overall, it's a solid 3 star. I'll keep going back, because options are limited. So if you find yourself stuck in the downtown tunnels, District 7 Grill is a decent choice. read more

Thankfully we arrived before the lunch rush and we had only a small wait which provided sufficient time to review the menu. The dining room has a lot of tables for 4 and was extremely clean. The staff was friendly and attentive. We dined on the Parmesan Crusted Chicken, Jumbo Lump Crab Cake, Tortilla Soup, Burgers. Everything was flavorful and cooked perfectly. I recommend stopping by if you find yourself in the tunnel and if not it is definitely worth the trip. While eating, the line extended out the door. I disdain heading to the tunnels, especially when there are above-ground options so nearby. This reaffirmed my experience. I delight going to District 7 Grill in Midtown. This one is equi-distant from me, and so I braved the tunnels to try it out. My staple there is the Kobe Beef Burger with the caramelized onions of goodness. Here, the bun had a slightly staler texture. Also, I paid the same price but got no fries here where I would have in Midtown. $16 after drink, tax, and tip, and I felt somehow shorted. For those who like the freebies, you'll delight in the free chocolate soft serve. Also, they don't give you cups when you pay -- they are near the fountain drinks. I guess you could be cheap and just steal a cup for soda or for soft serve if you're feeling really naughty. This former Girl Scout paid tried-and-true as I ought to have. Another point against this place is their specials. Yesterday, they were offering a kale salad with blackened shrimp. My coworker friend LOVES kale like you wouldn't know it and ordered this guy. What came out was a romaine salad. She took it back and asked for the kale. They brought it back with field greens added. I didn't see any kale, but she was polite enough not to complain again. Moral of the story -- go to the Midtown location. read more

This place is serving breakfast lunch and dinner they are open. Their address is 501 Pierce St. Midtown Houston period. I stopped for a Saturday morning breakfast it was extraordinary. Service was great, prompt & food was on point. Coffee was good, mimosas were better & grits were very creamy. Even though it appears as the yelp site has them closed on Saturday, that is incorrect they are open seven days a week go to their website. I work downtown right off of Louisiana Street so this location is very close and convenient for me. The place gets VERY packed after 11:30 for lunch time (it seems to be a very popular spot for lunch) so be prepared to wait in a long line and hope to find a seat. You order at the counter and then run to reserve your table basically. The cashiers and servers are quick and well trained to handle the lunch time traffic. The first time I came I had a salad which I didn't like at all. I felt it was too plain and something I could've put together at home. I wouldn't recommend the salad, they look better than they taste. My second time I ordered the special, which was seared salmon with a siracha sauce with brocollini and quinoa. It was AMAZING! If this was a regular menu item I would be here every other day. The salmon was a big portion and so soft that it melted in my mouth. The burgers here are massive and very unique. The naan flatbread pizzas look very good, I plan to try one next time. The menu has a lot of appealing items. I came to district 7 for lunch on a weekday. The line was out the door but moved a pretty good pace. The menu is full of pasta bowls, salad, pizza and sandwiches. I opted for the parmesan crusted chicken with pesto (option for marinara too). The plating of the dish was great, I was excited to taste it, and it was big portion as well. Thats where it went down hill, the food had no taste what so ever. Usually pesto sauces have a strong flavor and taste fresh, this sauce was very bland. I had to salt and pepper it to get some down. The chicken was also very greasy and all I could taste was the panko breading, none of the parmesean. The highlight of my meal was the free softserve ice cream... It's not overly decorated and may seem a bit sterile, but the quick service and delicious food has me coming back for more! Prices are about $10-15 per entrée. I've tried the chicken rosemary Caesar salad and the parmesan crusted flounder with bok choy and cous cous. Very yum and generous portions. My favorite dish is the pepperoni and wild boar pizza which comes with basil and pesto. There's always a long line, so take an early lunch or come after the crowd. The seats are first come, so if you have a group, scope the place while in line. They also offer complimentary ice cream for after your meal, but I'm greedy, so root beer float. As a far as options in tunnel go, it doesn't get much better than District 7. The food is always good and you can get in and out in less than an hour. It can get a bit loud and there is often a line to order your food. Thankfully, the line moves quickly and I've never had an issue with finding a table. This is the tunnel location of District 7, in the newly remodeled section on the way to the "loop" where Beck's, etc. is. Same great D7 food, underground location. I went last week and had no trouble; everything was just as it would be at the diner location on the edge of downtown. In fact, you could argue that this location is better in some ways as it has more indoor seating (but no outdoor seating). It's also not full waiter service. Instead, order at the counter, grab a number and your drink from the fountain, and have a seat. The food comes out fairly quickly. It can be a little pricey, but this D7 is definitely a good place to go to escape the rain and have a good bite to eat. read more

Despite other reviews' disdain, I will explain: Say you have a crowd of picky eaters (my example: a hippie, woman watching her figure, person with lots of allergies, vegetarian, and serious carnivore). You need a place with variety. Check! Burgers, pizza, pasta, salads...there's something here to please everyone. Lots of it is fairly unique, e.g. pasta with venison sausage or a seared tuna burger. And I've never been disappointed by something I ordered here. Has it been a tough week but you don't have time to drive to lunch and are stuck with the tunnel? Even though it's underground, the restaurant is brightly lit enough to not make you feel sad. Plus, because of the background noise, you and your coworkers can safely rant about your common gripes without risk of being overheard. Or maybe you're feeling social. Odds are, if you work in the neighborhood, you'll see someone you know here if you come around noon. Just try to get there before noon if you want to claim a table easily. D7G is definitely on my short list of go-to lunch places, and it should be on yours, too! read more

I would actually give this place one and half stars. I ordered the dish of the day which was blackened salmon, and rice with black beans. I enjoyed the rice and and black beans but when I got to the center of the salmon it was uncooked. I had to give the dish back to the owner of the restaurant and tell him to finish cooking it. Instead of bringing me a new piece of salmon they threw mine back on the grill and finished blackening it. The salmon was so salty that it was almost unbearable to eat. Next time I am going to stick to my home cooked salmon. I don't think I will be giving this place another chance. Thanks! read more

Plenty of variety for lunch! Most of our group had burgers but a couple had pasta and I had a salad. Portions were substantial and everyone enjoyed their selection. Definitely get there early as this place seems to be a popular lunch spot. If you do go with a group larger than 4 you may want to try to reserve a table. read more

So.. I gave this place yet another few chances for lunch. The first time was probably a week after they opened. I ordered the Buffalo burger- medium. The burger was pretty much med/rare.... too much red for me. The buns are way too thick IMO. Next time I tried the chicken sandwich- alright, but nothing spectacular- too many onions and very sloppy. A couple times afterwards I tried the chicken on the flatbread- Much better, but way too many onions still. Today (4/11)I tried the pasta Parm Encrusted chicken-Pesto. Umm lets just say they really need to work on cooking the chicken for this thoroughly. Majority of the pieces of chicken I could not eat because they looked undercooked. I basically had to pick through and cut my chicken into cubes and then butterfly them to make sure it was cooked all the way through.... pink and semi red looking chicken pieces is a HUGE no no for anyone. :( The pasta was very bland and I had to add salt which I hardly, if ever, use. Maybe their pizza's are better or maybe I'm just ordering the wrong dishes.. *sigh* Pro- The breakfast is actually really good and they give you a lot for what you pay for. read more

Pretty good burger for downtown lunch. Angus beef, tuna, all pretty tasty. Sweet potato fries and good salad make it a more balanced meal.

Unlike some reviewers here, I love the tunnels. Sure it is a little pricey, but the convenience is worth the extra couple bucks. I come here often and every time the service is prompt, the food is good, and I leave totally satisfied. I either have the Panko Chicken Salad, Grilled Chicken on Rye, Blackened Salmon or the Kobe Beef Burger. All are great! read more
