I order breakfast from here on Door Dash as they are one of the few restaurant in Montrose that have biscuits and sausage gravy. It is definitely one of the better one around this part of Houston. The waffle was just average here. It is good to see there are breakfast options in the neighborhood that is known for it's night life scene. I would order from here in the future. read more

I came to Midtown Bar & Grill with my Sunday Brunch friends. I love about this place because of patio seating, parking lot, convenience to major thoroughfare, split check and most importantly, it's located in the Gayborhood. Food was good. I studied the menu before arriving. I ordered Gyro Sandwich. The pita was fresh and soft. The meat was tender and juicy. The cucumber sauce was thick. The overall food experience was excellent. I just wish there were more options to substitute the fries. Service was also great. There were 2 servers at our table of 12-ish. I would return to try other dishes. read more

It was ok. Food was kind of salty. Nothing crazy, but I will say the place is open pretty late, so it's convenient. I got the blackened catfish with the sweet potato fries, house salad, and mac and cheese, and it was a bit too salty. Comes with a lot of food for the price. Fair prices. The sweet potato fries were okay, but the real show stopper was the mac and cheese. I'd get it again. It was so creamy and delicious. One of the best I've had. My partner got the steak and egg breakfast, but he said the steak was too tough and salty. Sides were okay. Overall, this spot is nothing special. Man, this place is hard to review. It's all the vibes of a great dive bar in a good location. BUT. The drinks are limited, the bartenders kept passing me up for walk-ups, and while the menu is huge, not all menu items are equal. Midtown B&G is a no frills, but tasty thrills place where you can get a morning plate of comfort. Any of the breakfast plates are great, as are the omelettes. When I'm feeling "extra", the chicken fried steak and eggs with country gravy on the biscuits...YUM. We used to order from Midtown Bar & Grill at least once a month, but after a recent experience, we won't be returning. My husband picked up our online order, only to get home and find it was completely wrong. When he called and returned the incorrect food, instead of receiving a simple apology and resolution, he was treated with suspicion by the manager--as if he were trying to scam them--despite clearly bringing back the wrong order. The situation was only resolved when the waitress who made the mistake returned. Everyone makes mistakes, but the way my husband was treated made a bad situation worse. I have started going to mid town in November'24. While a little plain Jane in atmosphere the place makes up for in good sized portions, fairly priced, and good service. Even though a bit understaffed some days. Breakfast is very fresh and hardy. Big omelettes, plus a full menu breakfast lunch and dinner. I love the burgers, fresh toasted bun, iceberg lettuce, think slices of tomato and onion. The onion things are the best I have had in several months. This review is for delivery service ordered through Uber Eats. Arriving home late after a long flight and needing food, I ordered based on the 4.5 stars in the Uber eats app (yeah right...). The lukewarm soup and off putting greasy gyro I ordered were both bordering on inedible/gross. The gyro looked like it had been dipped in grease, sad wilted, brown lettuce haphazardly thrown on top. I had to use a paper towel to soak up the grease so I could stomach it. The fries that came with it were barely warm and also soggy with oil. No ketchup provided but the fries seem like they were cooked in oil that wasn't hot enough and they just absorbed the oil. Gross. Those went in the trash. The soup was meh, big chunks of chicken were nice but it didn't taste all that great. And it was not hot despite my apartment being less that 10 minutes from the store. This place is a hidden gem. There is a ton of take out business, but I always eat in person. Daily specials and breakfast available all day. There is a full bar that is underutilized. Stopped here for lunch quite often when I was in Houston for work. Never even realized they serviced breakfast. So, here I am eating breakfast. The place is what I would consider a hole in the wall kind of restaurant. no I man that in a very good way. Even well before COVID it wasn't hard to find parking or a seat inside. The parking lot at the building is pretty small, but I think they have additional parking somewhere else. The atmosphere is really cool. They have old wood floors. They have paintings all over the walls. You'll just have to see to understand. The staff there has ALWAYS be great. They are friendly and attentive. The food has always been fresh when I've been. Located on West Grey in that edge of Montrose to Midtown transition zone with a decent parking lot (not to be a size queen but Byzantio's was bigger) as an actual dine-in joint it is an easy decision to make for breakfast before or after a trip down to the courthouse. The breakfast special has several different iterations depending on whether you prefer pancakes, freedom toast, or a goyim bagel. As one of the chosen people I would not trust the bagel at a place like this - there is not one of my people in sight in the kitchen with their sensible chest hair poking out from behind a soaked mostly unbuttoned shirt with a silver Star of David necklace - but everything else at a diner is fair game and does not require hardy shtetl genes to sufficiently prepare. I do not often eat breakfast during breakfast hours; brinner is the life for me. However at normal breakfast hours early in the morning this place was not super busy so it was pretty casual and refreshing to dine in at an old timey diner where most things move slow and are pleasant. The entire restaurant, both inside and outside patio, had one waitress working the entire thing. It took quite some time to get some coffee but that is fine, she had other things to do. The food came out insanely fast after we ordered which always bothers me more than slightly. I know they didn't go in the back and slaughter this food and cook it in under three minutes. So it was either pre-prepared and sitting there for the next asshole to walk in and order this dish exactly, or even worse it was prepared for someone else who had a hissy fit and walked out, so it was already made and just transferred to me as a hapless victim of circumstance. Food should take some time to cook, prepare, plate, and be sufficiently mired by the gentlesir that prepared it because this is his baby, he made this, and gave this life. Even if this came out of a supermarket package and was just heated up in the microwave still give me the illusion that this was made fresh just for lil' old me. I mean, it took significantly less time for the food to come out than it did to even get a first cup of coffee so that tells you something about how this was WAY 2 QUICK. Allow more than three minutes to pass between ordering and delivering food so we can all live that lie, like we are a 1950s Leave It To Beaver married couple both sleeping with the pool boy (separately, not together) but we pretend like we're not because we're not monsters and we don't want to shatter the illusion of normalcy to our neighbors and our impressionable children who will grow up, work for Wall Street, and destroy the world's economy just to make an extra shiny nickel for themselves that they can contribute to the Clintons. The freedom toast was not remarkable, but serviceable for a roadside diner. It was definitely not the local high marks of challah freedom toast at the Canopy or Avalon Diner. The bacon was rock hard and shattered upon touching from a fork, like shatter (or a dab as the children call it) so I was not a fan of that at all. I like the juicy, sizzling, and seductive kind that you have to eat in secret and keep a stiff upper lip about around the tribe when they discuss how they never eat pork or pork products for some silly reason. It is not meant to be fine dining, so it works as a roadside diner that is a comfy slice of Americana in the middle of the city which is more entertaining and whimsy than the Denny's or the ihap. read more

Decided to check this place out last night after hearing my friend talk about it countless times. I was excited to go on a slow Monday night since it would give us more time to decide and what not. The server at first was nice in our group we had both males and females. She started with the whole ladies first thing which I get. However this caused her to go all over the place in the ordering. I believe this is what lead to part of the issues. We ordered items for the table that she decided to spilt up into 5 although there weren't five of us so when it came to check out I had ended up with 4/5 somehow for two people. Not sure the math on that. Next came the price of beers which makes me wonder how many times they screw people over with the bills. For whatever reason, the coors light on my bill was $8.50 each! She told me as we were leaving that someone didn't pay for three beers which I said okay I'll pay for since most had left. However each of these were $4.25 each. She also added in another 4/5 of the appetizer that should have already been charged amongst the group. She also charged us for the Mac and cheese that was brought by mistake and she decided to leave when we requested the actual item. I brought up my concerns to the server along with manager working at the time. The manager attempted to correct it and told me she'd take care of some of the appetizer which I was fine paying the portions we had. However in the end I am now having an outstanding charge for when she was supposed to ring in the beers and decided to add everything else she forgot to do. I've attempted to call to correct this further today but keep getting told the managers not there when I called when they asked me to. Overall I enjoyed the food. The chicken fried steak was good. The Mac and cheese had a bit too much butter for my liking and was more like a cheesey noodle soup. The mishap with the bills really turned me off from this place. read more

I think a perk to this spot is that it says its open 24 hrs and it has a full bar, that can be attractive in the evening perhaps when nothing else is open. From the outside Midtown bar and grill doesn't look like much. However if you choose to dine here you wont regret it! this is my favorite place to come when I want something classic and affordable. The vibe is very established and vintage but also has a cute balcony as well as seating area inside. The staff is so helpful and nice and it just feels very nostalgic. I do ubereats late at night and this place is open in the area. I tried this place a long time ago when it was Gray St Cafe something like that. So I stopped by the other night and decided to try their chicken and dumplings. I knew about this dish from an Uber order. They don't usually serve it. Only thing it was kind of expensive. $11 for two sides and chicken and dumplings. I wasn't blown away but it satisfied me and the staff is laid back. Even when they are chatting and not busy they are still attentive. The tall blonde Caucasian lady who with the ponytail is a sweetheart and very nice.
