If you haven't had their breakfast burrito, give it a try! Eggs, potatoes, steak, etc. Customize it the way you want. Quality is always fresh and the burritos are huge. This location is open earlier than the one on Penn Ave SE. Parking can be tough sometimes because of busy street parking.
Great food, the ambiance was mediocre as there was very limited seating. The service was quick even though we had a huge order. I ordered 3 chicken tacos with a few toppings, would recommend chipotle sauce or sauce of some kind.
Surprisingly good little taco spot. Not much seating, but some access upstairs. Order the food on tablets, but we loved being to build out our own tailored tacos and burritos. Service was limited but fine. Place is a little industrial and dingy. But the food, not gonna lie, we were all pleased!!! Pro-tip- Can def get away with some kids meals orders to save a buck or two.
My partner and I ordered a Protein Vida Bowl, a make-your-own burrito, small chips/guac and a couple of fountain drinks. It was super easy to order and pay from the kiosk. (There was someone at the front taking orders if you didn't want to use the kiosk.) I typed in a first name for the order and, although there were a number of people who also had ordered food, it didn't take more than a few minutes before they called my name. The order was correct and was packed well in a paper bag. The food was delicious. The chicken in our entrees was moist and flavorful, the other ingredients seemed fresh. The small chips was a decent size bag of nice, crisp chips with a nice portion of creamy, fresh guac. (I say creamy to describe the overall texture, but there were also some nice chunks of avocado in the cup.). Overall, impressed with the quick, friendly service, food taste and quality. There's outdoor seating and one table for seating on the main floor. The rest of the indoor seating is upstairs. We usually are in the area when we go to the nearby theaters. This place is definitely added to our rotation for before-theater lunch/dinner.

Not bad for a quick taco fix. I ordered 3 of the fish tacos and customized the toppings. I wasn't expected them to be wrapped up together in a foil burrito so that was a surprise! The fish was flavorful but otherwise they were pretty standard tacos.
I came here when visiting dc for the first time! This was a good find, I ordered their three taco meal. One chicken, one pork, and one asada. I was planning to get all three asada but the up charge was per taco. That's a little insane. Have one up charge for the whole meal not each individual component. The service was fast and the tacos were good. The chicken was the best one in my opinion! The location wasn't far from the national monuments so it was a great stop. There is limited seating so be aware of that and it was quite warm in the upstairs area which was the only option as the patio was full. I'd come here again but I'd only get the chicken next time!
I'm from Dallas, home of the Tex Mex, and I'm usually wary of trying Mexican food from other states. District Taco was gig em good! I ordered a carnitas taco with rice, grilled corn, cilantro and jalapeños and a barbacoa taco with black beans and slaw mix. Both tacos were filled to the brim, I had to go downstairs and get a fork so I could finish all of the delicious toppings. The meat in both was tender and flavorful. The tortilla was soft and fresh. The overall meal was flavorful and fresh. This will be on a repeat for me when I return to DC!
During the summer, I saw a massive line in front of District Taco, and I assumed that the food must be pretty good. Why? Because who is gonna wait forever and a day for a few tacos? However, I decided to pass on stopping by that day because I am not a fan of waiting 30+ minutes for food when I'm in a decently-sized metro area. Ok, cut to a cold/rainy Saturday in February. I saw that District Taco was pretty empty, so I figured why not give it it shot. Also, I needed a little time to figure out where I was going after my quick snack. The 3-5 kiosks made ordering a breeze. For my dining pleasure, I went with the three tacos for $11 deal and added a side of mini churros. I thought the price of the tacos were fine especially since you could load the tacos with up to nine different toppings. And boy did I load them up. While the deal was great, I was not too impressed by the tacos. For instance, the potatoes topping reminded me of the general, bland potatoes that are served in a hotel breakfast buffet. Also, the meat (chorizo and carnitas) did not really have much seasoning. Ok, the tacos were not bad, but I was expecting a little more umph. However, I assumed the food was going to be 'out of this world' amazing based on the line I saw outside of the restaurant a few months prior. The service was pretty fast, and the restaurant has a decent amount of seating in the dining area upstairs. Also, the restaurant was super clean...probably because there were no customers inside (again, it was a cold and rainy Saturday in Feb.). *A very minor annoyance* When I'm dining in a fast food joint, I kind of like to have my food on a tray, but here, everyone gets a take out bag. Perhaps, giving everyone a to-go bag makes life a bit easier for the staff so they do not have to constantly clean trays, which is fine. Like I said, this is more of a "me" thing, and it does not negatively reflect on the restaurant. Although my meal was not bad, I do not think that I would go out of my way to have tacos from District Taco. However, if I'm in the area and in starvation mode, it could be a decent option for a quick and cheap bite....depending on the amount of people in the line.
This was a great and quick lunch during our DC trip. We didn't want to waste a lot of time but we needed a place that was good and that our kid would eat. This fit the bill. They have someone at the front but most people are ordering on the machines. The machines were very user-friendly and it was easy to create your own and/or modify dishes to fit your tastes. You can make your own tacos, burritos bowls, quesadillas, and kids meals. My son had the kids cheese quesadilla, which came with chips and a small side of rice and a milk. Of course we had to order a side of queso for him as well. I wasn't terribly hungry so I too ordered a kids meal, but I got my quesadilla with Barbacoa and it was really good. I found the kids meal to be a substantial size and it came with a full size bottle of water, so it was a pretty good deal as well. My husband had the nachos. It was a very large serving. He had them with the Barbacoa and thought they were really good. The nachos were a little bit expensive, but it was a very generous portion. There is limited seating upstairs and outside. We timed it well that we didn't have to wait too long for our food and had no problems finding a seat.
Got the Carnitas "mexican way" on flour tortilla is in the front, and carnitas "jefe way" is in the background. One taco had more carnutas in one, and smaller in the other. Wish the pork was more flavorful.
Move over Chipotle meet District Taco! Bomb tacos with maybe the best habanero salsa ever. My mouth is on fire as I walk the sites of DC / but in such a wonderfully delicious way. Also love the fresh jalapeños and cilantro options to add.

Pretty average taco shop. It is fast casual, and I would say similar to Chipotle in a way. I tried a few different items: the build your own bowl with pollo asado, beans, rice, and vegetables, as well as the tacos with black beans, lettuce, and chicken. All of it was just average. Nothing impressive. I thought the portion for the bowl was very solid and filling. The chicken was decently fresh and well cooked. The vegetables were also pretty fresh. It didn't have a ton of flavor, but not awful. The tacos were also just okay. It was kind of soggy, the lettuce added a bit of crunch to it. The chicken was once again, decent but not that flavorful. Nothing really special about these. All in all, it's an okay spot for a quick meal, but not at all impressive. I won't go back the next time I am in DC. read more
Came here for a quick bite. This was close to my hotel. I just wanted a taco! I got my taco. Chicken taco the American way + sour cream. Delicious. From observing : it's a very busy place. Not that good for groups, however if you're lucky , you might get here early when two tables leave. Then you can have a small group. Coke products. Thank you. There is one nice long communal table if you're eating by yourself. Service is efficient and friendly. Tacos are delish. read more

I've come here a couple more times recently - they've added self-ordering kiosks which makes the ordering process easier if you like using them and don't have questions for the staff. The food is still pretty good and very flavorful and, from what I can tell, pretty fresh, and they make the food relatively quickly. I also love that they have "Itza" as a vegan protein option. I guess it's their own seasonings on Beyond meat substitute. It's extra expensive which is annoying. My other small annoyances are: 1) They don't drain some of the excess liquids from the salsa and/or vegetables, and they wrap up the tacos super tightly using paper that falls apart quickly after getting wet. I had my tacos at the restaurant, so it's not like I was traveling a while before I could eat them. I ate them right away. But it was an extremely messy affair as the paper holding each taco fell apart from the liquid from the salsa and vegetables. 2) Guacamole is listed and offered as a protein on their menu for all their items. Guacamole is NOT a protein and it is ridiculous that it is offered as such. I get that guacamole is expensive like a protein, but nutritionally is not equivalent. I HATE WHEN PLACES DO THIS. Charge for it separately if you must, but don't list is as a protein. read more

There is about 3-4 kiosk to order food from upon entry. It's very easy to navigate on the screen, and if your not tech savvy there is an employee that can assist to take your order as well. The hubs decided on the three tacos for $11, and I opted to build a taco. I would consider this our snack lol. The kiosk allowed us to customize our tacos, choice of meat, toppings, and salsa. The only meat that didn't have additional cost was bacon and chorizo. The pollo asado, carnitas, carne asado, itza, and grilled fish was a bit extra. My choice of meat was the chorizo, and the jefe way meaning it had vegetables in the topping. My better half meat choices for his three tacos was pollo asado and carnitas. Once the order has been paid and submitted it goes straight to the kitchen. They will call your name for pick up. The only seating available is outside the eatery with a few tables and chairs. Good luck on getting one when it's busy. The employees aren't one to have conversations so interactions are low. I have to say the build your own taco is a perfect size for those looking for a quick bite. It's not too small or large. The chorizo was flavorful and seasoned well. The jefe way of fresh veggies, shredded cheese on a soft warm flour tortilla was heaven. The hubs parted with one of his pollo asado tacos to me, and I must say the flavors, smokiness, tenderness of this chicken was addicting. Tacos are not for the carb conscious, and you can lose your keto battle eating this because you NEED the warm tortillas lol. We will be back especially of how good the quality of ingredients are, and the quickness of receiving the goods!! read more
This place is actually in the running for best meal I had while in DC! I got a steak burrito with all the fixings. It was excellent. The steak was still extremely tender and flavorful while having crunchy char on the edges. The salsa options were all very unique with really decent heat for the two hot varieties I tried. The price is a bit high, $14 for a basic burrito and an upcharge of $3 for steak, but that's to be expected for a restaurant only a couple blocks from the Whitehouse. The place is pretty tight, but there is decent seating upstairs. The staff is actually very friendly, which is very rare for DC, so it was very noticeable that they cared about the cuatomers even though they were all likely tourists. Tacos in the city! District taco has been on my radar for some time now. I finally got to try what the hype was about. It's pretty good. There are tacos, breakfast and lunch or dinner, chips and salsa, nachos, and burritos. You order at the kiosk, grab your table and wait for your order. You can order ahead or at the counter if you choose to. The tacos are more of a build your own concept. There are a few favorite options to choose from if you're not sure what you'd like. There's a plethora of options to build your perfect taco. From bacon to chorizo, to pico to guacamole and more. There are three different salsas with their level of heat; 1, 2, 3 hot peppers to identify the level of hotness. Be sure to ask someone how hot the levels are. I skipped the spice this time. I went with carne asada tacos with pico, lettuce, tomato, corn and sour cream; in corn tortilla. I added a side of chips and guacamole. The tacos were delicious. The guacamole seemed fresh and tasty. Now for seating. There's outdoor seating at the front of the restaurant off the street and more indoor seating upstairs. Some people don't know about the seating upstairs and I think it's important to note. The customer service was good. I'd like to go back and try their nachos. read more

I have mixed feelings about District Taco. Walking in, the store is clean with large menus and order screens to get you going. They seemed busy and the staff was working like a well oiled machine. After ordering, sat outside where there are about 4 tables. That's when I noticed I was missing my guacamole. Talked to an employee and was immediately given my missing topping. So I appreciated the quick help during busy time. Now the food. It was just ok. Maybe it was the toppings I picked, but I didn't really get a lot of flavor. The small chips are a good serving so if eating alone or as a side for two, it's definitely enough. The portion on the bowl was great, so you won't leave hungry. Just wish there was more flavor. I'd try again with different toppings to see if it was a fluke. Overall, I didn't leave hungry but thinking it could have been better. read more

This place was great! My friend and I came here for lunch and we managed to get in right before the crowd. I made my own salad with chicken, rice, cheese, cilantro, sour cream, and corn. Then chicken was charred, which I like but some may not. It was a really fresh bowl and they had it ready within a minute of placing my order at the kiosk! Be warned though, the only seating is upstairs and there's only spots for about 25 people or less. There were lots of families waiting for a table which made the upstairs feel pretty crowded and difficult to maneuver through. All in all, if you have a big group, plan on takeout. read more
Okay so I did the 3 taco- 1 grilled Alaskan fish pollack - 1 chorizo and 1 steak. All with the corn tortillas - they did two corn together which was fine. I also got the small chips and queso (pictured) As someone who has lived in Texas and Ok- I love me some tacos! However this flew a little flat into because they gave me the tiniest side of salsa. Where I come from salsa is poured to you from a never ending salsa reservoir! That was disappointing. I hope they see this review and take note otherwise the meat was great quality- just could have used a lot more salsa on an otherwise dry taco. read more

Honestly, if I were rating this just on the tacos alone... 2 stars. Taste-wise is average at BEST, but the entire composition of their tacos deserves nothing more than 1 star. These tacos were super messy, soggy, and the shells didn't even keep any of the contents together. Had to end up basically eating these with a fork, and it was NOT the bidness, I tell you. This spot is highly rated and conveniently located near the National Mall. I was hangry and looked up some spots that were walking distance from the White House, and this was one of the places that popped up. I liked that it was fast casual, so I walked on over to try it. Service-wise, everything was on point. The young lady who helped me at the register was super informative about the menu and helped me with the ordering process. They have a nice salsa bar with some good salsa options. Decided to order their fish tacos since this seemed like a popular item and was also recommended to me by the sweet cashier. Also got some chips and guac to go along with it. They have two levels but both don't have a ton of seating. I sat on the second level and the place was pretty busy (pre-covid). When you order they give you a number and then they'll deliver your food to your table. When I saw the fish tacos, I kind of had a feeling that they weren't gonna be all the way right. They just looked sad. And I was right. The tacos were soggy AF. The actual flavor wasn't half bad, but nothing to go out of the way for. What annoyed me the most was that as soon I went to pick one up to eat it, everything started falling apart instantly. They were extremely messy. Luckily that chips and guac were tasty, but that's not a meal. I really wanted to love the tacos, but they just fell flat for me. I feel like the main reason that this place is so highly rated is because it's convenient and cheap. If that's what you're looking for, then it may work for you. This place is something similar to Chipotle, but you order through a kiosk, and they have one cashier in case you have difficulty using the kiosk. This place is close to the mall so you will find it busy. I ordered an Asada bowl with everything and 3 tacos. Their grilled fish and chorizo were really good; it is a must try. Their Asada was ok. I assume their chicken will be good, too, because it's also grilled. Unfortunately, to find parking is tough. I was at Macy's and parked my car on the street, so I walked about a block. read more
Was looking for a quick bite and this place didn't disappoint! Self ordering kiosks are my favorite and made ordering easy. I got a burrito and a drink which was $23, the burrito was thick and full but I still think that price is a bit steep for what you get. The staff was very friendly and the food came out super quick. The restaurant was clean and open and it appeared to have seating upstairs but I took it to go. If you're looking for a quick good bite for tacos or burritos then this is the spot! read more

District taco is somewhat like Chipotle in that you have a wide variety of ingredients to choose from. This particular location appears to be suffering from the DC labor shortage, particularly in the fast food sector, in that the small staff of two seemed overwhelmed with takeout and delivery orders. Nonetheless, they were able to put my order together quite quickly. The only reason I did not give them a higher rating is that overall, the tacos were quite small and bland. DC has plenty of local, non-chain taco stands that are much better. read more

My complaint is about the misleading publication in the price list of California burrito...in the list the price includes carne asada...but it is not right ...because You need to pay extra $2.20 each for the carne asada... read more

LOOOVE district taco omg. it's definitely kind of just a normal taco place but it always slays tbh. also, THE GUAC IS SO GOOD but i stay spending too much money here, especially since guac and chips is like $7 ouch. read more
