I'm really torn on this place. We've been twice and have had different experiences both times. The first visit was just my wife and I. I ordered the Five Spice Duck Noodle and my wife ordered the Beef Pho. Both dishes were phenomenal. Some of the best Thai food we've ever had. The service was also on point. We decided our Daughters would love this restaurant so we resolved to come back for a going back to college dinner. We returned a week later and came out very disappointed. Our Daughters ordered the Five Spice Duck and the Kao Soy Chicken and for the most part they liked them. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and my wife ordered the Chicken Pho and we were very disappointed in the chicken. The chicken pieces used in our dishes were tough, dry and very stringy. We ended up just picking them out and piling them up on a plate. My Pad Thai also had no egg that I could detect, much less the 'egg blanket' that is shown in so many pictures here. You'd think the staff would have noticed the pile of uneaten chicken next to our empty drinks but they never bothered to stop by after they delivered our food. Not even an 'is everything ok' visit. The next time we saw them they had the check in hand. We were so disappointed with our second visit we'll probably be checking out all the other Thai places around York before we return. read more

Still four stars. This time we had the 5 spice duck noodle soup and the Kao soy noodle soup, plus the fried tofu app. Tofu was meh, and served with the entrees. Annoying. The soups were excellent. The duck soup was sweet and flavorful, like a duck pho. Lots of duck which was juicy and tender. Really good. The kao soy noodle soup was fantastic. It was like a loose yellow chicken curry. Ever since I saw the picture of the squid ink noodles I knew I had to try District Thai. We had a full course meal and everything was fantastic. There was plenty of flavor in everything and just the right amount of heat. The squid ink noodles were quite tasty! We'll be back to try some of the other creations on the menu! read more

Huge portions of well seasoned Pad Thai with bean sprouts and peanuts. Massaman curry on point (maybe need more white rice). Two appetizers. Like 8 wings for a $7 appetizer...very reasonable. Finally, this amazing Thai Sausage Appetizer. Two large homemade lemongrass/pork sausages served with pickled ginger and more fresh lemongrass --- just a very special dish. I highly recommend. This is one of my first reviews back since taking a temporary break from Yelp. In fact, eating at District Thai may have brought me out of retirement. It was that...damn...good. Food: Our table tried a pretty diverse mix of their offering. We started out with the Bikini Shrimp and the Brussels Sprouts. Then, my wife crafted her own noodle soup while I indulged on the shrimp pad Thai. Brussels Sprouts: These need to be mentioned first. HOE - LEE - Sheeeeeeeeeeee-it!!! These are something to write home about. Possibly the best preparation of brussels sprouts I have ever had. I don't usually like Brussels Sprouts...I LOVED these. Sweet, salty, spicy, umami ...who's your daddy? Like whaaaaaaaat? Seriously. Get these (6/5....yea, that's a six) Bikini Shrimp: I mean, compared to the sprouts, not even close; but still good. I honestly wouldn't get them again. They were unique with the lime dipping sauce, and the nori(?) paper on the inside of the won ton wrapper, but they were a little too...um...fishy for me? I don't know...because I like fish, but these just were ok (3/5) Pad Thai (mild...by accident): Mild, but still the best I have ever had. BEAUTIFUL presentation, amazing flavor. It was moist, peanut-y, and had outstanding flavor. This truly is a MUST TRY. (again 6/5...best I've ever had...would order this every time) Noodle Bowl: My wife started with a silky and flavorful 'Spicy Ginger broth'. You can refer to this as 'God's nectar' from here on out. Wow. THE FLAVOR!? I haven't had anything quite like it before. It was like pho, on 'roids 'brah. Deep, well-developed flavor chock full of delicious noodles, veggies and beef. My wife said next time she would get the shrimp instead of the beef, only because she thought it would pair better with the spicy ginger broth, and not because there was anything wrong with the beef. The beef was great. This soup made my insides tingle. It felt like there were rainbows shooting around inside of me. My wife was scared we would have a Cyclops (from X-Men) moment and I would blast rainbows out of my eyes upon which dancing unicorns would appear. (6/5....yep) Coconut Milk Soup with Mushrooms (I dont remember the name): Silky smooth broth, well-developed flavor, and a nice little kick that burns low and slow throughout. This soup is a must if you like coconut milk based soups. (5 / 5) Overall Food: 5 / 5 (some of the best Thai I have ever had) Service: OUTSTANDING. It started a little slow, but boy did she make up for that. Such a sweet, prompt, and efficient server who seemed like she genuinely cared about how our service and food was. Such hospitality. I feel like I was part of a family there. Service: 5 / 5 Atmosphere: It strangely feels empty, but it is very tastefully decorated. Maybe it is the tall ceilings? I don't know. It didn't completely come together for me, but it did feel really welcoming and the furnishings that were in place were perfect. Add to that the cool wall art of Thailand, and it really was a very nice spot to come and get some authentic eats. Atmosphere: 4 / 5 Price: For what we got, which was the best Thai food I have had in the entire Central PA region (by far!), and probably the best (or tied for ) the best Thai food I have ever had (I am thinking of that place in Albany, NY I recently reviewed), the price was entirely fair. I honestly don't even remember what I paid (???) That just goes to show you, I don't care what I was charged. It was that good. Price: 5 / 5 Conclusion: For some authentic, delicious Thai eats with unique flair... this is the spot. It almost feels like elevated-Thai cuisine. It looks outstanding (the plating is amazing), the taste is fresh and clean (not sure how to describe that), and the overall atmosphere is warm and inviting with people who truly care about their establishment. Oh God, I almost forgot, the Thai Iced Coffee was just...wow! It was very sweet. I mean, so sweet that I didn't sleep for 6 days after consuming because i was so hopped-up on caffeine and sugar; but I REALLY loved it. This place was a huge (and pleasant) surprise for me. We have visited this restaurant several times and the food has always been good while the service, at times, has been lacking. Tonight, while the food was good, my initial impression of the waitress wasn't pleasant, a dish wasn't prepared as I'm previously accustomed, and the ice cream service setup is sorely lacking. There were only two tables occupied when we arrived and the waitress attempted to seat us in the far back corner, we didn't follow her to that table but instead asked to be seated toward the front of the restaurant. Upon making this request she sighed and rolled her eyes-- how off putting. However, our request was honored. Additionally, one employee was working in the restaurant with their postal uniform on??? My Pad Thai came without any trace of egg. Normally this is sitting atop the dish. When we inquired about this, we were told something about things changing in the kitchen and them not having this anymore. I didn't and don't understand? Lastly, they are now serving Thai rolled ice cream. It seems as though they basically turned an office/sanitation station into their ice cream bar. Yuck! There was a cleaning rag on the back of a chair, one on the table that held a tray with different containers used to measure or hold ingredients, someone's wallet with receipts on top of it, and a small sanitation bucket. Lining shelves above this area and the condiments was office equipment, e.g. computer monitor, tower, keyboard, printer, router and the like. Two employees came from working in the dining area directly into handling the ice cream product-- no washing of hands, just donning gloves. The whole setup is unsightly and unsanitary. I can't imagine that this arrangement would pass inspection; it needs immediate resolve. Needless to say, we were underwhelmed by our visit this evening. I hope things improve as this was a nice closer find than driving farther east to my favored spot. read more

We ordered take out last night, and it was all amazing!!! Hands down the best Thai we have had in the area so far! We ordered massaman chicken curry, drunken noodles, pineapple fried rice, spring rolls and chicken wings. The flavors were awesome! Everything you would want in a Thai dish, sweet, spicy, and savory. They nailed it. I ordered the massaman curry, and I will definitely be ordering it again. It was savory and sweet, and the chicken was falling apart like it had been slow cooked all day. The spring rolls were delicious and crunchy even when we got them home. Everything traveled great, and the flavors are almost better the second day when re heating some leftovers. We stopped by here spur of the moment. What a great surprise! Really cute inside; bright, cheery, clean and modern. We started off with fresh garden spring rolls. Different and tasty. Fresh veggies, Thai basil and tofu. I then had the drunken noodles. A nice sized portion with fresh veggies. I had the beef. A good level of hotness. We stopped in York on our way towards Baltimore. The reviews for District Thai looked good so we decided to give it a try. Wow, we weren't disappointed! They were obviously busy with predominantly a healthy takeout business yet we were seated quickly and the food came hot and fast. The Pad Thai was was flavorful and mild. The Massaman Curry was mildly sweet and spicy. It was a good option for a hearty variety of gluten-free options. I've been here twice in the 4 weeks I've been in York and have recommended place to friends, who subsequently tried this place out and also loved it. For $12 for almost every dish and giant portions of delicious food, you can't go wrong. The first time I ordered the pad kra pow with vegetable and tofu. It definitely has a kick to it and is delicious. It comes with rice on the side and was enough for 2 meals for me. My companion ordered the pad thai and enjoyed that- I tried some of her dish and thought it was one of the better pad thai dishes I've had in the past. The second time I went, I ordered drunken noodles with vegetable and tofu and at a medium spice. The portion. again, was enough for a little over 2 meals. It had a slight spice and was flavored well. The one thing I will say is that their tofu is slightly more tough/chewy than I would like, but overall it doesn't make that much of a negative impact on my dining experiences here, especially since it is so vegetarin friendly. We have never been so disappointed. For years we have had delicious food from District Thai. We did take out today and came home with completely dried out Pad Thai with overcooked chicken that you could barely pull apart and mushy fried rice that was too wet. They were both flavorless. $24 of disappointment. We will try one more time and after that no more if this continues. read more

This restaurant is definitely going to be on my regular rotation. Everything we had was wonderful. The service was quick and attentive, they have great vegan and vegetarian options and the price was right. Everything was so flavorful and I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu.
