There is a lot of outdoor seating, and it's decorated very nicely. The staff were polite and attentive when taking our order. We ordered an omelet with sausage (which came with a side salad and seasoned potato), the egg and cheese sandwich, and kol borek - one order with spinach filling and the other with cheese. Super cute neighborhood gem! There's a huge beautiful backyard thats full of pretty decorations - has a shaded area too! Normally I really enjoy this place, the food is great and the atmosphere is usually good. However, I had a disappointing experience today with one of the staff. I noticed the WiFi sign was down, so I asked the worker for the password. She replied, "I don't have it right now." When I clarified, she repeated "no" and walked away. I asked again later, and she gave the same answer and walked away again. She also dropped my plate and drink down in an aggressive manner. What bothered me most was her dismissive attitude, short, unhelpful, and unwilling to even check if the WiFi policy had changed. The café wasn't busy (we were the only two customers), so it wasn't a matter of being overwhelmed. It came across as though she simply couldn't be bothered. I usually come here specifically to enjoy the food while I work, but since WiFi is a basic expectation and I was treated this way, I had to leave and go to Shepherd's Cup, where the service is much friendlier and the atmosphere far better. I was following this place on social media for a while but never had any chance to come by and give it a try. Since i got my lunch from Taci's Beyti, remembered this place give it a try. I am so glad i did, plus i got myself a birthday cake made with pistachios and chocolate!! FYI, everything here is homemade. Look at the pictures i took, they speak for themselves. I live nearby but, I never been into the bakery until recently. Oh boy, am I glad I did! They currently are only doing takeout but, I still bought a few treats to enjoy. It was very hard not to rip open the package and devour the goodies as soon as I stepped outside. I bought two types of baklava and both were tasty. They have quite a few different types but, pistachio is my personal favorite. I also bought this milky creamy caramel topped cake. It reminds me of a bit of Tres Leches cake with a caramel-y topping. The woman on staff was very friendly and polite. She offered a lot of suggestions and took the time to explain some of the items. The reason why this isn't a 5-star bakery and I am would visit every single day is because the prices jumped a lot. Baklava used to be 4 pieces for a $1 and the cakes were like under $5 a slice. Now, the baklava is priced per pound from $10.99 to $16.69. I bought 2 pieces of baklava and piece of cake and the total was a little more than $12. Went in there to end a nice evening with some dessert. Ambiance of the place was nice. The inside was nice with what looked like comfortable seating. They had a backyard area that was very calm and quiet to sit at. We ordered a slice of tiramisu cake with the employee insisting it was a cheesecake. When they brought it to the table, the slice was hard as a rock. Dried up cake. I had to spit it out into a napkin that's how bad it was. We let them know and they took it off the bill. The pistachio slice we had was pretty good. Decent. Also ordered a regular coffee which was definitely sitting in the pot for some time before I got it. They gave me burnt, sat out coffee. But the kicker is they charged me for Turkish coffee which I believe is a couple dollars more. Felt like I got nickeled and dimed. Spent some time at Divan Bakery on Sunday morning. With a lovely backyard patio and solid baked goods, a great place to spend some time sipping coffee. Quality: A great place to enjoy a beverage and a snack. Even though it was on the smaller side, my Iced Coffee was very good. Richer than expected, which worked nicely with the sweeter treats. I also had some Pistachio Baklava, which was excellent. They had a ton of different flavors, but I believe the classic is the way to go. Quantity: A smaller coffee. The Baklava came with six small pieces. Value: $4.50 for an Iced Coffee. $6.50 for Pistachio Baklava. Ambiance: Divan Bakery is located in the Sheepshead Bay area of Brooklyn. They have a large inside space as well as a lovely back patio. The front inside area is lined with tables as well as the counter displaying the different treats. The back patio is decorated nicely with plants and flowers and different lights. A quiet and serene space to sit and relax. Crowd: A few couples enjoying brunch and coffee. Allowed my sweet tooth to run the show today and ordered a few items off they menu. The red velvet cake was dreamy, creamy, and lush! The strawberry cheesecake was heavenly and honestly so decadent that I'll be ordering that again. My hubby and I also got the baklava which was light, fluffy, yet ferociously delicious. And that sent us to a sugar comma. I believe the red velvet slice was so large that we left 1/2 untouched and will be dreaming about it tonight in our sleep. My Turkish friends have been telling me for a while that Divan is one of the best Turkish bakeries in Brooklyn. Because I am not often on Avenue U, I kept putting it off until today. And I am so happy I made the effort to drop by. Here's why: A) Cleanliness - the bakery is spotless, comfortable, modern looking and well lit. My only suggestion is that they put up some nice photos on the wall across from the bakery displays B) Quality - everything looked delicious. I have a meat and a cheese borek with coffee. Display shows a big varieties of Baklavas-charged by the pound. Cakes and pastries on the other side had pretty artwork that goes into each decadent sweets. But, the main reason for drooling over that display window was their different kinds of Turkish rice puddings. They had Kanzadibi and the Firin Sutlac pudding ($5), it looked so good I had a hard time choosing. Ended up purchasing the Sutlac, and it was down right Delish. Also got half a pound of their Baklavas which was also really good. Clean space, tons of seating, cushy chairs, and good eats. We had a large 10 person group. They happily helped us rearrange chairs/tables and then even came over to take our order instead of having us line up one-by-one at the register. A welcome addition to my neighborhood! There are so many Chinese bakeries competing for dominance, but no American cafes or coffeehouses where you can study in comfort. Divan is a gamechanger. It is relatively spacious, with great lighting, and ample and comfortable seating. They have free wifi, a clean restroom, and an rotating assortment of Turkish pastries. I've had their beef, cheese, and spinach borek on different occasions. The employees are very nice and take the extra step to warm up the pastry and bring it over to your table. I haven't tried their desserts yet because they look so sweet, but their coffee definitely packs a punch. read more

Cute place with a lot of potential. I was passing by a couple of times, saw ppl without masks sitting when inside dining is not alpine and never come in. This time around, I wanted to get something for my husband to surprise him. Unfortunately, the baklava is so not fresh, such a disappointment. It felt like it was lying on the counter for a while, not crispy phyllo dough with some weird flavor ( the one that shows that the prices were there for a long time). I will go to my regular place to buy baklava. I also got some small cakes : pistachio and chocolate. Visually stunning but the taste was just ok. The pistachio and chocolate mini cakes are the same thing, but one covered with pistachio shreds and topped with a pistachio garnish. The chocolate is topped with almonds shreds, and they have chocolate pieces on top. I was not impressed whatsoever. The pistachio was not that fresh already. Hub brought back pastries from his co-worker. He's very familiar with the Turkish culture and dishes after working with a co-worker who is from Turkey for many years. We also dined in various Turkish restaurants and cafes for many years. Hub also likes to order and try Knafeh from different spots. I love the Turkish Pide bread! It's good with everything. Hopefully, somewhere in the future when we can travel again, Turkey will be on our bucket list! We had the Kazandibi which is starchy, caramelized milk pudding. I liked the density and marshmallow texture to it. It looks similar to a creme brûlée but it has a thicker consistency. It was pretty good. And, we had the Profiterol that was covered in a dark chocolate sauce. The chocolate was really good but the profiterol that was soaked inside tasted sour. After a bite, it was apparent, that the pastry did go bad. My kiddos were disappointed since they love chocolate! I made sure to bookmark this spot.
