do not go to this woman lenora velez. she is a devil in a sunday hat. she takes about god this and god that. then sneaks in charges on your bill. i asked her a week before my appointment what the charge for the service would be. she said $75 but neglected to say if you used a card that you would be charged more.. already expecting this anyway, i asked her if there would be charge for using my credit card when i went to pay after she did my hair. she charged me $88.30 on my card. no credit card fees are $13.30 on a $75 charge. and why is she also taxing me on the service. i did not purchase any items from her. i just got my hair d one. i have never seen any other stylist do this on a hair service. i will never go back again because i will not allow her to charge me taxes for doing just my hair. plus she is a thief for charging an extra $13.30 to the $75. i asked her to explain why the extra money was charged. she said it was the credit card fee. no credit card fee is $13.30 on a $75 service. that is her being the demon she is and overcharging for her services. i don't know why she did me like that. perhaps she thought i was stupid or maybe because i'm not spanish. i am a proud jamaican and have no desire to be espanol. read more

5stars for an old school salon that gets it right! Leading up to the new year, I finally decided to cut my hair! Not only did my hair need it, but I did too. I went in a week before my appointment and met Lorena. She looked at my hair just to make sure she could give me what I wanted. At my appointment, she did her thing! As a curly hair girl, I can remember the last time I saw my hair so straight with just a roller set and a blow out! I was in awe not only of that, but by good my cut looked! She was so friendly and not rough on my hair at all. Self care is t always the easiest for me, but I am so glad I did this. I'm hair has never looked or felt better. This is the only salon that I will bring my daughter with mixed hair for past 4 years. Everyone is so pleasant and treats my daughter like a princess. It has been a journey to find somewhere that can cut/blow mixed hair and this place is a blessing. It was my first time going, and they did a great job. I wanted a new hairstyle but without cutting the length. They were able to do that and within a great time limit. AVOID THIS PLACE! My stylist, Denise, completely butchered my haircut. The pictures speak for themselves. The stylist kept asking to look at the picture of the haircut I wanted on my phone. She had no idea how to cut my hair. I'm questioning if she even went to a legitimate school. My hair looked presentable when I left the salon, but a few days later when I washed & blow dried it myself, this is what I discovered. The picture of the back of my hair was taken by the the *wonderful* stylist at a different salon, who fixed my hair. She had to cut off an additional 2 inches. My hair is now much shorter and I'm pissed!! The only reason they have so many 5 star reviews is because they'll give you a free deep conditioning with a 5 star review. Even after I left my initial 5 star review, they still tried charging my the $5. Plus they charge you $1 extra to use your credit card, not really a big deal, but they should disclose that first. Lastly, I think I was overcharged because I'm not Hispanic. They figured because I'm Asian I can pay more. Just avoid this place. They're a rip off and can't do a simple haircut. read more

I went today for the first time. And I was not impressed. I was waiting for an hour before i was attended to. And then they toasted my hair with rolos for an hour. Overall I spent 3 and a half hours in there before i had to leave. I told them to take out the rolos and i'll pay for it. Guess how much that was? $51. I've been here a few times because it is convenient to my house. However I've paid a different price every time. The owner says the difference is based on if I get a blow-dry or rollers. The price list in shop says 25 and up for rollers, 35 and up for blow dry. I have short hair so it should be base price. I've never paid those prices though. The manager determines the price based on how busy shop is. There is a sign out front for mon-wed discount but when I asked about it she said that's for first time customers only - but the sign does not say that. I went today and asked fhow much for blow dry and she said $35 and $5 for conditioner. When I checked out she said 40 and I gave her text they sent me today for 10 off service 35 and up. Now she said I couldn't use it because she already discounted the blow dry. Last time I'll be going there. read more

Yanqueline did such a great job with my hair. I recently had braids for two months came in and she washed my hair and did a protein treatment which I highly recommend. I try to get relaxers every 3 months due to the chemicals so the protein treatment does wonders in between relaxers. The only con about the salon is that they charge you a dollar more to use a debit/credit card they need to do better with that being that we are the consumers. Good reviews should be earned, not given in exchange for a cheap discount. The ratings and prices are what led me to this place so I am making it a point to make an honest and unbiased review. I was up-charged for my hair, which was a first for me. What would have been a $35 blowout, quickly increased to $55. I don't mind paying more for quality service, but I could have gotten the same thing done for half the time, and less money. What would normally take 1.5 hours to do, took 3 due to me having to get rolled up and put under the dryer. Nothing wrong with that, but if have to spend time under the dryer, I want it to be worth it. My hair just ended up straight. I've gotten more body with a blow dry and flat iron alone. They are nice ladies, but they were a bit nonchalant and cared more about doing things their way than listening to the needs/wants of the customer. read more

SHOCKED and DISAPPOINTED I have been coming to a Divine Escape for 2 years and have always been pleased until today. For 2 years the only hair color I have ever gotten is black. Yesterday the wrong color was put in my hair. I understand mistakes sometimes happen however I am very disappointed and shocked at how the situation was handled. The owner said she would fix no problem but still charged me 35$. She said she was not charging to fix the hair color only to blow dry my hair. This would have been fine but I NEVER would have gotten my hair washed twice in 2 days. The only reason they were doing my hair in the first place was because they put the wrong color in. The absolute worst salon ever! They are an old school salon that still dries your hair using rollers and a dryer that you have to sit under...the stylists all have one way of cutting your hair and they really have no skills. I went in and ask the stylist to just trim my hair, and she butchered it. I didn't even want layers and she turned me away from the mirror and cut my hair how she felt she wanted it...I now have layers that start above my ears and will have to wait on this Bruce Lee hair cut to grow out. I absolutely love this salon. The owner Lorenza is so pleasant and loves what she does. She recently styled my nine year old hair. My daughter's hair is extremely curly and thick, and needed some TLC and a trim. Lorenza knew exactly what to do! She deep conditioned her hair, did a curler set and sat her under the dryer. Then blow dried it out. For my little diva daughter not to cry or yank her head away because of the heat associated with the Dominican blowout was amazing to watch. She trimmed her hair as much as needed but kept in mind her length. This place is a definitely go to when you're looking for quality service. Excellent. Jacqueline did my hair. She gave me 3 thorough washes and set my hair in rollers. The hair dryers are the smaller type, but they really do dry the hair quickly. Jacqueline then gave my hair form with the blow dryer and did a fantastic job. They give you a big plastic cooking spoon with which to cover your ears so they don't get burned with the blow dryer. The only thing that didn't make sense was the pricing. I went with my sister and she and I have the same length hair and I have more hair than her, and yet the owner charged her $10 more supposedly because she had more and longer hair than me. The first time I visited this salon I was very pleased. However I started to notice that my hair was getting shorter and brittle. With each picture taken I noticed it wasn't looking healthy. They give you $5.00 off your service if you give them a good review. Unfortunately it expires 2 weeks which mean you never get to use it. I have tried and tried to go to this salon because its close to home. Initially, I was irritated by the several "before and after" pictures they insisted on taking. I told them I did not want anymore pictures. But, they continue to ask and seem offended when I say "no". I have to hold a big spoon over my ear while they dry my hair. Once again, I politely said (after several times being there) I can hold my ear while you dry. They insist on using the big spoon. The last time I went to Divine Escape, I tried talking to the lady who colored my hair and she "shooed" me away because I was speaking English. I kid you not!! Some of the ladies are really nice, some are distracted and on their cell phones. I now go all the way to East Colonial and Forsythe to get my hair blown out and pressed. I got there ask for a wash and a blowout I was there for more 30 mins waiting until I ask was I going to be serviced long story short I was over charged 65 for a Wash & a Blowout my hair was more then heat damaged it smells burnt!
