I went here Saturday night with a group of friends and I had a great time. It was like a cross of a Coyote Ugly/Dance Club, but it was lots of fun with a really great vibe. The thing that I really thought was amazing is that normally for a bar like this the service is awful. It is almost as though the management will sacrifice great service for the sake that you have a hot chick to look at. The bartenders were definitely "hot chicks", but they weren't your normal completely useless, no clue how to pour a drink and find your tab girls. These girls were generous with their pours, extremely friendly and were fast! The music is the only reason this place gets a 4 star instead of a 5. It was like the DJ was bi-polar, he couldn't find him a home with dance music. Sometimes the music was great and made me want to dance and other times, the dance floor would clear out because no one knew what to do with the song. One minute there was the Black Eyed Peas and then it was line dancing. I don't mind mixing up the music, but let's stay somewhere in the same universe. I would definitely come back again. Ironically, I'm one of the last types of people you'd expect to find here: never drank til I was 21, I go to church on Sundays, etc...You might call me a total square. But maybe that's why I love it. It's over the top with the trashy-southern-rock theme, but that's what makes it so much fun. My party-friend and I always come here when we want a place where we know we'll have a good time. I was visiting Portland on a girls trip. We were told that Dixie was a fun late-night hang-out! We arrived about 11pm, the place was packed! The bartender was great, very attentive! Music was good, Billboard Top 40 mix. We were having a great time until we went outside for fresh air and then were denied re-entry. We attempted to show the doorman our stamps we received when we paid $10 each to enter but were denied. The doorman spoke to us rudely and told us that we could not re-enter and should have used the designated smoking area (which we were not told about when we left the club). We tried to explain that our friend was inside and the doorman said "that's not how things work here". He was extremely disrespectful. We will never go back. The way this doorman spoke to us was extremely distasteful. The bouncers in Portland need to take advice from the bouncers in Las Vegas. read more

Great drinks and music, but I don't understand why they have a cover charge!

Never been my style of place but somehow over the last couple years I've met the DJ, managers, and just about everyone who works there so it's hard for me not to come through now and then and have fun with everyone I know. If you like a mix between a normal club, country bar, some classic rock music, girls dancing on the bar, bras on the ceiling, cheaper strong drinks, and a dance floor then it'll be perfect for you. They also host karaoke on the earlier nights during the week. read more

This place is some sort of the "mild version" of Coyote Ugly. The food is good, especially the burger, and I like whatever got hung on the ceilling (look up). They do karaoke as well, not sure which night. But Saturday night seems to be the best time to go here. read more

This place is definitely kitschy and reminiscent of Coyote Ugly-especially with the dancers. It's really hit and miss on the music therefore each time I go is very different. I have had great times here but it can get ugly as there have been a few fights that have broken out and I don't think that's uncommon. Drinks aren't great and the cover really isn't worth out however I do think it's fun to dance on the bar so that's a plus. read more

It's an ok bar. Nothing super different about it. I'm just not personally into the crowd that comes here. The younger crowd that is, the I just turned 21 crowd. Great Bar, but it is just that a bar. The scene is mellow most nights but Fri and Sat night this place transforms into a full on club and is a great place to go. Watch out if anyone orders you a "Hurricane Katrina" shot that thing is brutal. The bartenders are great though and even when the place is overflowing with people they always seem to see you and get your drink. definitely a younger crowd type of place. read more

I can't remember NOT having fun at the Dixie! Yes, it's loud, sweaty, and crowded, but isn't that part of the appeal? True, I probably wouldn't want to go there if I wasn't feeling up to a rowdy night, but really, if you want quiet, go out in the Pearl--there are plenty of good, chill martini bars out there for those nights where all you want is a drink and conversation. The Dixie Tavern, on the other hand, is not a place for talking. The music (an eclectic, but totally dancable mix) is always up full blast and half of the time people are singing along at the top of their lungs. Plus, there's the mechanical bull to ride, and every so often, girls are allowed to climb up on the main bar and shake their stuff. Upstairs is a little calmer, and a good place to take a break and play some pool. Or, if you're not into dancing, you can join the multitudes hanging over the railing, watching the people below. Other useful information: the drinks are pretty standard, there is a coat check available, and there's a cover charge. All in all, the Dixie is a great place to go if you want to dance and hang out with some really nice people (seriously, it's one of the friendliest bars I've ever been to downtown!). read more

We came to Dixie Tavern pretty early on a Friday night and the bartender with the half shaven brunette hair had the worst attitude problem. She still gave attitiude even after we tipped her. Will never be coming back to this establishment. Stopped by for a quick drink with my friend who is a disabled veteran that has a service dog. I understand that some people try to bring "service animals" into places, but this dog is 100% certified. The bouncer was refusing to allow us entry. Awful awful awful. I have given this place so many chances since it's my local bar downtown. The last 3 times they haven't been able to get a burger order correct and today ran out of lettuce for a salad and messed up the burger order. A lot of flash for a very disappointing meal! I ordered the chicken tenders with fries, fries were very soggy and I should actually refer to them as fry, because there was not very many! The chicken was dry and bland. Thank goodness for the runny honey mustard so there could be slight taste to them. The kicker was the "hand breaded" mozzarella sticks, hand breaded my ass. This bar used to be the place for us to hang out at during a Friday or Saturday evening. Sadly, my friends and I will not be going back to this establishment. The bouncers are extremely rude and think they have the authority of cops. When I spoke to the general manager about unfair treatment of a friend, he proceeded to speak to me as though I was a child. They let extremely drunk people into the bar, treat sober people like shit, several of their new bar tender are rude, racially profile people, and abuse whatever authority they have. I hate to do it because I have had a great time in this place in the past, but they now treat their customers awful. The security staff is simply rude. For no reason at all they will go out of their way to treat people badly. And it is literally for no reason. So there I was belly up to the bar with my crutches on a nice comfy stool with a drink in my hand while my friend had fun talking and dancing. I even enjoyed the pleasure of talking to the manager before the special event I was attending. So we're talking about hours at the bar here. Then all of a sudden I'm told by two bouncers you have to move because the dancers are going to be on the bar and you might get kicked in the head. Ummm could you have told me three hours ago when I was first sitting here talking to the manager?!?!? Now there is no where to sit except the seat against the kitchen. Thanks so much if it wasn't bad enough I'm on crutches but now you've put me in the corner away from everyone. I've done everything I can do to be on crutches and not be a burden to anyone and you have made me feel like an outsider unworthy of being with the rest of the club goers. I've been here through my 20's always had fun. Lots of dancing, generic music you know, drinks! Buuuut 6 years later here for a friends birthday for old time sake (last time was about 4 months ago for a random occasion after 1.5 years away) went to the bar to get a the birthday girl a shot and we started a tab with the waitress when we first walked in but wanted a shot for the girl. Went to the bar and miss Ally (probably with a Y because that's how awful she is) gave us the shot about to put the money up before the birthday girl said she had a tab open with the waitress and she took the shot away "you need to go to your waitress you can't come up here" (snotty awful ghetto attitude) well that's understandable but you guys still take cash? It was a no go. First off the interaction was just rude. The manager cared none. As someone who doesn't complain very much. Well you guys suck we will not come back the whole thing was weird and rude. Good luck you'll still get business for being downtown but... Your dynamic will be cheap beer and drunk young crowds.
