We recently had the opportunity to try this new Smyrna restaurant and it is definitely a gem! Walking in you can feel the positive atmosphere and how much effort they have put into making this restaurant comfortable and appealing. We were greeted with a warm hello and experienced a friendly and welcoming attitude from everyone we encountered. Even the owner stopped by for a chat. The menu was filled with something for everyone and we actually had difficulty choosing what we wanted to order because there were so many delicious sounding items! Our food was delicious and the only downside we could agree on, is that we didn't have room for dessert! We will definitely try to save room next time! I have read several reviews on Next Door App and thought I check it out as I enjoy good old home style southern cooking. However, I was very disappointed, was not expecting 95% of the menus to be fried foods. I do love BBQ pulled pork so I went with that choice. But maybe I don't know what southern pulled pork is all about because it was very vinegar tasting and no red BBQ sauce in sight. I feel as though the rest of the food was very bland. Corn bread didn't taste like cornbread. Also, they had run out of several items on the menu including all desserts. Plus a $1 for a glass of water ‍ The only good thing I can say about the place is the server, Aly. She was amazing, only person working the floor and she was hustling the whole time. First of all, this was definitely an unplanned visit and we were so happy that we went. This place has very deep roots in history. We were given a small history lesson about the building from the owner himself. It was great and the kids loved learning about what this building went through a couple of hundred years ago. The owner was very energetic and super kind. The prices are fair and not gouging so that's awesome! I cannot complain at all about the portion sizes. The food was flavorful and very comforting. We really enjoyed this place. So much so we ended up calling my parents and talking about the place and they ended up popping up to join us to eat. The food and service were great.. there was only 1 server and she was working her butt off, so we didn't get our corn fritters we ordered as an appetizer, it came with the food. The only thing everyone should know, even though its a minimal charge, they charge more for credit but advertise a discount for cash. Even with the payment of a debit card. The owner said it was stated on the menu but we were looking to order not the small print. (OK, our fault) Take cash with you unless you don't mind paying extra for using your card. Nice sit down restaurant in historic Smyrna. The historic building has lots of ambiance as the dining is set up in the interior rooms. The menu has a lot to choose from - I had to try the Shrimp Po' Boy as that is one of my southern favorites. The shrimp were a nice size but the tails were left on so that made it a bit tricky to eat as a sandwich without a bit of deconstruction. The remoulade was very tasty and the fresh greens were nice. The roll was a longer type hotdog bun which I was hoping would be more of a French bread type roll. I also ordered an iced tea and being an aficionado of tea I would rate this one very highly. It's difficult to get a good iced tea at restaurants but this one was on point! Didn't have room for dessert but there appeared to be some tasty options I would like to try on a subsequent trip. Hello Bill - You had mentioned to us how busy you are running the restaurant and cooking with only Aly to help you, so, when would have been a good time to call? Honestly, I'm at a loss for words at this point and I certainly have done nothing wrong, nor did I expect to have happen to me what happened! Fact remains; a large bunch of friends went to Dixie's in hopes of having a nice lunch without any hassles. My experience turned out not so nice! No - I did not eat my meal. I actually tried a little bit and brought the rest home in a container that Aly brought over so, maybe you were looking at the wrong person on your camera? - if that person ate her whole lunch, it was not me. I did purchase a dessert to bring home to my husband, but what does that have to do with my review? And, No, I thought Aly would have told you what happened and you would have approached me. There was no way I was about to talk to you about the bleach in my glass in front of everyone I was with that day -- that would have been the wrong way to issue a complaint and I don't do things that way-- again, I thought you were going to approach me at some point. When it came time to pay the bill, it was obvious you weren't going to talk to me. Aly should have taken care of this issue with you immediately when it happened. No need to "make it right" at this point. It should have been rectified then, but I do thank you so much for the offer. read more

Rating the food alone. Obviously with it being newly opened they have kinks to work out with the service but the BBQ is top notch. The owner came out and made suggestions that sold us on trying their platters. My goddaughter is super picky and he brought out the Mac and cheese to sample to help her decide and not waste her order. Great hospitality. I got the three meat sample platter and all three were amazing. The brisket was by far my favorite. No sauce, super moist and delicious. Already dreaming of the next time I get this brisket. Met a friend here for lunch, the owner came out personally and sat down and spoke to us. Such an interesting man with so much passion for the food he is serving. I had heard of the restaurant and decided to give it a try as takeout. It is a good local place to get a good meal.

I had wonderful fried fish, crunchy and light; my hussband had an excellent cheeseburger. I would love to take a vat of the creamed spinach home!!!! They have discounts on certain days. We were there for senior Wednesdays. We are already planning our next meal there. It really is great. It's beautiful inside and the waitress was very nice. Overly impressed with everything. Starting from the top, Fried Deviled Eggs were served quickly and did not disappoint. The minute the Charbroiled Oysters Rockefeller hit the table, we knew everything we heard was true. Fresh, seasoned perfectly, and all elements combined for an amazing appetizer. Wakeup Burger was full of flavor and the Meat Sampler proved the Owner/Chef is passionate about the food he serves. All meats were full of their own distinct flavor which did NOT come from drowning them in store bought secret sauces. Ambiance gave off the vibe you would expect from it's historical location - inviting, relaxing, and most importantly, clean. If you want to sit down and eat a variation of the same food all the others get frozen out of the back of a Sysco truck, there's plenty of other places to go. I was treated with the "Birthday Special" of my age as the percentage off my meal. The owner came out to check on each table and we had a fantastic conversation. The service was fast and friendly. I ordered the gumbo, and honestly..it tasted and looked like the Campbell's soup brand gumbo. Overcooked rice, weird processed chicken, little to no flavor. I tried the brisket sandwich and the hushpuppies from the food truck they have in Wilmington on Market St every Wednseday. Unfortunately,I was quite dissapointed.. The brisket had the texture and consistency of a leather belt, and didnt really have any flavor to it. They also served it on a hot dog roll, which was not exactly ideal. trying to eat the sandwich was me trying to rip the brisket into pieces and eat it with bits of roll. There was no option to add BBQ sauce either, just plain white vinegar and liquid butter (im assuming its the spray butter substitute they use for the seafood.). The hushpuppies were ok. A bit on the small side but I had no issues regarding flavor or consistency. It tasted like fried bread; as it should. At $16, I would say pass on the brisket, you'd be better off eating a shoe. The only good things I can say are that the service was quick and the staff were friendly. read more

I can't believe I'm the first person to review! I first learned of Dixies Down Home Cooking in May when I went to the Baldcypress Bluegrass Festival, at the Roman Fisher Farm, in Frankford. I haven't stopped thinking about this food truck since I was foot stomping at the festival. I had the best cheese steak ever. Hands down the best cheese steak I've ever had. I consider myself a cheese steak connoisseur. Well, last night I found you Dixie at the Freeman Stage in Fenwick.
