So sad, hunger - it gets me every time!!! I think this will be last of my yo-yo rated reviews for this restaurant. Sometimes, you need look at what you're doing, and realize its insanity! The definition of insanity; doing the same thing over, and over, the same way; but expecting different outcomes. So before the paddy-wagon comes to collect, I had better get myself together! Another day of craving things that do not come from the same restaurant. So, this evening, I went to (1) restaurant, Cool Springs Seafood and Bar (see rating...) for my protein, and decided to go to this restaurant for my sides, and a lil snack for my sister. So, I ordered, (Small) Fried Chicken (4 pieces) (1) Beef Patty, (1) Sweet Potato fries -- my sis's order (2) Greens (2) Green Beans (1) Cabbage Simple orders, yes? No! My fault, for returning...SMH I placed a pickup order online, via GrubHub and ordered the items listed above. Said that they would have the order ready at 6:05p. So, my sister and I are sitting in the lot, running our mouths and waiting the 30 min that it would take to get the food...remember all sides; except the chicken. So, when my sister went in (around 6:10p), it took her forever to come out. In fact, my son wanted to go in with her, so he went happily behind. He came running back a few minutes early because there was nothing to do in there and his auntie was mad. Mad? Bout what? They are taking too long and didn't get the orders right. Oh Lord! So his silly self wanted to run around the car while we waited. Fine, just not in the street, silly! In any case, I look at the clock and now it is 6:30p and my sister still hasn't come out. So, I call and all I hear is a deep sigh. I knew what that meant. What's taking so long and why are you mad? Well, they said the food was still not ready. Uh...it's 6:30p? I know! Ok. So, they said another 15 min...I realized at this point she was coming back out to the car, because I hear myself in stereo. Thank God, lets...wait, why don't you have the food. They informed her that it still wasn't ready. So, i see a man come out of the restaurant, though I never saw him go in. So, my sis jumps out the car to go back into the restaurant. She's like ooh, if his food is done, maybe ours is too. who? Him, he's been in there for a long time. He was waiting when we got here. WTH? So, she comes out with the bags, and it looks wrong. Aye, did you check the bag? No. UGH! They are missing my food. So, she goes back in...and another 15 min comes out...still pissy. Alright, lets go. Why when we get home do I have potato salad. I am not going to restate my order, but scroll up. No one order potato salad. Well, they decided to change the order I guess, and instead of giving me greens they decided to give potato salad. This is the reason we went to pick-up! If you order delivery, or even call them, and say please make sure everything is in the order, they don't you either get an item, no sides; or nothing. Something totally different. Doesn't matter, I don't understand why they cannot give you what you order. What is worse, is its not JUST this restaurant!!! Any of the restaurants that are run by Caribbean owners, but say they make soul food, in Dover...the ALL are I am not sure what to call it, outside of INCOMPETENT! You would think, that if I only order sides, you would give me all of my sides! They don't! It's like their minds are set in "a la cart" mode, or something. I really don't understand why you continually cannot provide the items that a customer orders. Or, you make them wait FOREVER and still don't provide it. OMG! I am going to have to stop for good, because I am tired of "expecting" something and not getting it. Let me tell YOU, they are quick to take ya money from your account... So you want my $$$? This is definitely more of a grab and go and not a sit down place. Yes they have seating but it's right as soon as you walk in, and people ordering to go walk through the space. The staff was welcoming which was nice. My food was okay. I felt like the Mac and cheese could have had more cheese, as it didn't really have much flavor. The yams were wonderful. I have been to this restaurant a couple of times and I have been able to eat the. This past weekend on Saturday, March 4th my husband and I ordered our dinner for Big Daddy's Soul Food. There were a few things that caused us both not to be able to eat even half of our food. 1. My husband ordered cat fish, collard green and candied yams. His cat fish was freshly cooked but too salty to eat. His candied yams were from the can and collard greens were full of stems. 2. My order was trout fish, collard greens and potato salad. My trout fish was fried very much too hard and again collard greens were full of stems. The potato salad is where I thought the problem would be but at least it was edible, although there was nothing to eat with it. That was such a waste when paying more than $17.00 per plate. I don't mind the price as long as I am able to eat my food. I'm not sure if they need help or what is wrong but it didn't use to be like that. read more

Goddamn, this food kicked ass. There is a lot to like about the offerings here. I ordered whiting, honey bourbon chicken tenders, and fried chicken. The fish was the tastiest thing: large pieces of seasoned and fried goodness. The honey bourbon sauce was thick and sweet (but not too sweet). The chicken overall was perfect. I got sides of mac and cheese, candied yams, and collard greens. My soul food rule states that if these sides don't slap, throw away the restaurant. They slapped alright, no cap (twitter language is beginning to affect me, apologies). The service was good, and the servings were large. I sadly have to update this review :( I went at least 5 times and unfortunately the last two times I went the food quality diminished. My most recent I got fried chicken and it tasted like it had been sitting there for a while. My Mac and yams also did not taste good I ended up throwing the whole plate out l. I really loved this place at first and think maybe they are going through a rough patch. Stopped in for a quick bite since it was so close to Fordham and Dominion Brewing. Got the fried shrimp and they did not disappoint. Very light and tasty breading. Just like the ones we had when we visited South Carolina. Lots of interesting items on the menu. We will have to stop back in for the shrimp and grits. I got the whiting platter. There were four nice sized pieces of fish. Two pieces were freezer burned (picture attached). The other pieces tasted like they had been reheated and refried. Good food, prepared well, and plentiful portions. The staff is warm and friendly. Have had ribs, flounder platter, honey bourbon shrimp, mac&cheese, potato salad, cole slaw, sweet potato fries, hush puppies 7-up cake and chocolate cake. Not disappointed in any of these. I only wish the menu would indicate which items were spicy. Not everyone wants food with an abundance of pepper. They have called when the food is ready, but Grubhub hasn't sent anyone to deliver it, so can't blame them for delivery delays. Would definitely recommend this place! read more

If you want authentic SOUL FOOD this is the place to go! The platters are reasonably priced, and portioned perfectly. I ordered the ribs with Mac and cheese and yams, my girlfriend who loves gravy a little too much ordered the smothered chicken platter. Greens and Mac and cheese were her sides. Tried them for the first time on GrubHub, love that they are on there. After placing the order the called right away saying they were out of an item and could they sub out, which I replied was fine. When Grubhub driver arrived, he called me to say order wasn't ready and that they were out of an item and could they sub out. Was visiting family and they suggested this place, said the food was good about a year ago but unfortunately nothing was to my liking. Just ordered fried chicken wings and French Fries, how can you get that wrong? Well it was no seasoning on either. Both were cooked well but bland. French fries were not crispy soaked in oil. I just moved into the area from Louisiana, and I have been craving some southern food. I asked around and I was recommended to go check this place out. I checked this place out today, and I was extremely disappointed by both the customer service and the food. I walked in the restaurant and the gentleman working the counter seemed like he didn't know much about the menu, and was acting like he did not want to deal with customers at all. I understand people have long/bad days, but damn, at least greet your customers. I ended up ordering a fish sandwich, and let me tell you, when I received my food I thought the staff had messed my order all the way up! I took the food back to the counter and I told the gentleman I had ordered a fish sandwich, but I got two fish fillets over some fries instead. He looked at me and said he would go get me some bread. He comes back from the kitchen, and handed me two slices of bread... no lettuce, no ketchup, no onions.. just two plain pieces of wonder bread. I then walk up to him and requested lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. He brings them out to me and tells me "next time you want that "stuff" on your sandwich You need to ask for it when you order..." But little does he know.. THERE WONT BE A NEXT TIME. I love the fact upon entering this establishment the lady at the counter told us a little history about the place.
