Having been to some of the other African wear stores across the city, I had been looking for one that offered a larger selection for men.  Of course it's easy to just order something online, but every once in a while it's nice to actually go into a store to look through the selection and try things on. I happened to be driving down 95th street when I noticed some bold prints and traditional clothing on mannequins outside of what seemed to be a storefront. Now I say "seemed to be" because the store is actually much larger than it appears from the outside. Once inside, the store seems to have about 3 sections FULL of imported goods from soaps, to oils, to artwork, fabric and of course clothing. Once inside I was happily greeted by multiple people who all asked what they could do to assist me. The owner and his family are from Mali, and are all really pleasant. I have been to this place several times since my first visit and I have bought several items. I have also noticed that every time I go to the store, multiple people come in to try custom made outfits which is a good sign! Try to catch them when they have one of their sales! You'll be able to get some nice items at a really good price! read more

I have purchased several beautiful outfits over the last few years and I always receive huge compliments when I wear them. I love the quality of the material and the beautiful designs. Overpriced lace. I couldn't believe my ears when they told me that their lace cost $50-60 PER YARD! If you go to websites like Aliexpress, Alibaba or Etsy you will quickly find that this store is greedy and that they are overpricing their fabrics. INSTEAD of paying $300 for 6 yds of lace you can get the same quantity for $40-80 online. Africans that come and leave that store know very well that the true cost of these fabrics are PENNIES overseas. Don't buy their overpriced fabrics. Save your coins and shop online or at a different store in Chicago land. Even amazon has African fabrics. read more

Beautiful fabrics. Just make sure you make them take out a ruler when they cut your fabric. Because they will definitely short you.

I loved the skirt that I bought last time that I was there so much that I went back in today to purchase a new one... when I went to tell one of the men working there that I found a pattern that I really liked he was looking down at his phone texting and didn't respond to me. I waited and waited and waited and a whole minute went by so I just walked away and went to find someone else but this person was talking on his cell phone so I waited for him to get off the phone and then I told him that I was trying to get some service but that the other employee was too busy texting to help me so I asked him if he was willing to give me some service and he said "well I was on the phone". I was completely taken aback! Maybe I caught them on a bad day but I probably won't come back to the shop now which is unfortunate. read more

If I could give this company10 stars, I would do just that. I'm the type of consumer that never writes reviews when I'm satisfied (bad, right? I know). But this place is so exceptional that I had to make the time to give props where they are due! I randomly came in one evening right before they were closing and was helped right away, I asked about a skirt and they showed me all the beautiful Ankara print material they had and I was floored. I left the shop that evening expecting not to see my skirt until at least a week or two later. They called me the next day and it was done!! Less than 24 hours. The most beautiful piece of art I've ever laid eyes on. I've been online searching for them to continue making items for me and my family because their work is THAT good. This was my first time going into the store. I had a wonderful experience. They were very helpful, polite, and respectable. To top it all off, they were also able to do alterations in the moment.
