I dont normally write reviews but ive been going to DK for the past 2 years now every 4-6 months. First of all, his services are generously priced for the Master Stylist skills you will be experiencing. Ive gone to and from many stylists and salons around SD because of one thing... CONSISTENCY. Ive had REALLY good stylists before! The problem is sometimes, I have the one cut with them that doesnt quite look like their best work, and the subsequent visits just go downhill. With DK, that has yet to happen. He's constantly going to work with you on what look you're going for. Cannot recommend enough! read more

Incredibly disappointed in the service I received from DK and absolutely appalled at the fact his yelp review score is as high as it is. I've been growing out my hair ever since I got it permed 3 months ago in hopes of having a nice wolf cut haircut for when it does get long. I was initially excited to come into DK's store because of the reviews I've seen, and i'm not sorry in saying that this has to be the worst cut I've had in years, YEARS. One of the first immediate things I tell DK is that I would NOT like the back of my hair to be cut, as the whole purpose of the haircut is to be long and texturized. I specifically requested for the top of my hair to be cut only, and provided photo examples of what I would like my hair to look like as well. What happens next you may wonder? Dk proceeds to cut the back end of my hair, even with my previous requests to leave it alone, and decided to cut my hair in a manner he believed would be "best for my head shape, bone shape, and face length". In theory this sounds like good things to hear from a barber, however I was told these things in hopes that i'd be more content with the haircut he gave me. No Dk, what you gave me looks nothing like the reference photos I've provided you, nor does it suit my face shape. Not a single person I showed your haircut to was happy about your work. Furthermore, the shop is a mess and looks like a shack, absolutely my fault for not leaving sooner. For anyone who enjoys spending their hard earned money on disappointing work, Dk shop is just for you! For people who care about having a good quality haircut, do both yourself and I a favor and stay clear of here. During my appt DK was professional and easy going and the shop was pretty quiet which was nice. DK is truly the master of his craft! Very knowledgeable and professional. I wanted a digital perm and DK is the guy in SD. Was able to get in for an appt very promptly. He first gave me a haircut to create some more texture and volume before the perm, and even just that was one of the best haircuts I've gotten. The end result matched the picture I had wanted initially to a TEE, I was amazed! The cost was super reasonable given the amount of time/labor involved ($285 before tip; he was kind enough to include the treatment). Before and after pics attached. Got my hair cut by DK a few times now. Very unprofessional. First two times, I was sitting in the studio for over an hour past my appointment. Both times, he texted me not to be late only to have me wait. The third time, I showed up 5 minutes late and he cussed me out for being late. Makes no sense. He also charged me $20.00 extra after the cut, despite us agreeing on $50.00 fee before the cut. Already very expensive for a cut, especially considering his studio is very dirty and unsanitary. I first went to DK a few months ago and based on the picture I showed him, he gave me a cut that would grow out into the style I wanted to achieve. I came back to get the cut and perm. Overall very satisfied. While the decision is ultimately yours, he provides good reccomendations regarding certain aspects of the hair style you want. For example, he explained the different hair part ratios to me and which one would best suit me. Afterwards he also gave tips on hair care and products to keep my hair healthy after the treatment. Got a last-minute appointment with DK. My husband wanted Asian haircut in particular. Then I went through potential haircuts he can have online. My husband came with pictures, and he gave his assessment. My husband said to achieve the style my busband presented in the pictures, a perm is needed. But when I saw the pictures of my husband that DK sent me, I was "wow". I was so excited to see him in person with his haircut. My husband's new haircut really suits him and the style he wants. We were walking in the subway in San Francisco, and a random person complimented my husband's haircut. It's been a few weeks now, and he's still getting compliments from his coworkers about it. The price of the cut is on the upper end for men's hair cuts in the area. I've paid $90 for a haircut before and paid $12. Generally you get what you pay for. I've been going to DK for a few years now. He always do an excellent job at giving me the layered hair cut that I asked for. I recently reached out to him about a hair treatment because my hair is dry, brittle, and damaged. He recommended the mucota deep treatment. I decided to move forward with his recommendation and went to get it done. It took 3 hours to achieve the nice smooth texture. He explained to me that normally it would take less time but since it's my first hair treatment, it required more work. Love my digital perm and nutrition treatment! My hair had been permed once already and I'm outside all the time. It was damaged and had lots of split ends. Was recommended the nutrition treatment before doing the digital perm for an additional $50-$60. The digital perm had a range of $180-$220, but after actually doing it he charged $200. So total the perm + nutrition treatment was $260. It's cash only. DK was very friendly and polite. I enjoyed talking with him and catching up on my reading while getting my perm done. Nothing he did to my hair was a surprise (which is a good thing, lol). The first 15-20 min of my appointment was his assessing my hair, and giving me his recommendations (backed up with explanations which was great), and then we had a conversation about what I wanted and potential costs for the work. He said that he recommended the nutrition treatment bc of my damaged hair, but that if I was okay with getting 2-3 inches cut off, he would make a final rec after cutting out that damaged hair. I felt very comfortable moving forward with his recommendations and felt confident that his pricing and assessment was fair. The nutrition treatment + perm took 4.5 hours. The treatment took awhile to apply, then the actual perm took awhile too. DK checked each curl to make sure the heat took, and even redid some of the perm to make sure it took. My digital perm included a hair cut & styling. He explained how to style my hair and blow dry it for big curls and little curls. He also explained that when I wash my hair on day two, the curls will temporarily fall out but not to worry bc they'll come back. I really appreciate the great communication. I absolutely love my curls, and it feels so healthy. Would recommend his services to anyone (guy or girl) & I'll definitely come back! I wish I saw the negative reviews about the extremely poor customer service. Recently moved to San Diego and trying to find a barber. Mainly looked at the numbers and thought this was a good place to try. Oh was I wrong. Was literally late for 5 minutes and the barber is all huffing and puffing. I even apologized for being late but there was a lot of traffic, what can you do. For an unnecessarily long period of time, the barber kept going on and on how the 5 minute delay will affect the next client. My question is why is he not just doing the work and wasting time talking down to me? As a health care professional, I completely understand the frustration of patients coming in late but you just work with what you have. Absolutely would never recommend this to any friend or colleague. read more

Going to DK was a great experience, and he gives very personalized treatment to you. His studio is small but warm and friendly. It's inside Sola Salons, and to the left when you walk in. I originally wanted a digital perm but he advised that due to my highlights (dead hair), it would not be wise. I took his advice since he knows what he's talking about! Instead, I opted for the keratin straightening and nutrition treatment, which took about 3.5 hours ($300 total). DK was very patient, kind, and accommodating to make sure I was satisfied. He enjoyed getting to know his background and his aspirations in his life. I respect his art, and trust him with my hair, something I don't usually trust salons with. Won't be returning to this hair dresser. Why? Price is too subjective - for men $35-$55, apparently I had a difficult head and should have cost $50 Dk scheduled his appointments oddly, arrived 5 minutes prior to appointment, but had to wait 10 minutes after my appointment to get seated to start. During my hair cut he had to stop to attend to the other customer. Not very professional. He discounted my hair cut by $5 for the wait (without me asking) Main reason - he doesn't know how to cut Asian hair. He cut the bottom half first, then the top, but never took the time to mesh the two together. Also the cut wasn't clean and was jagged with many hairs on the back side that was longer than others. It looked that he expected his styling to cover up any mistakes. Went to my usually person on the east coast a few weeks later and she said straight up that dk must not have been experience or knew what he was doing. Only positive, he took the time to explain how to style your hair towards his vision and takes before and after photos to remember your haircut. read more

Love it! I've been wanting to get my hair done for a while. I have long hair that has been damaged by previous low cost hair dyes. I've been wanting to get short hair, but My hair is super straight and flat. My hair can be really dull. So I thought perming it will be a good solution. I found Dk on yelp and saw he specializes in digital perms. It was really easy to get an appointment via text. I searched for some photos online for him to reference, and he got it on point! What I ended up getting was a hair cut, nutrition, and a digital perm. Total came out to be 4.5 hours and was $220. Originally the hair cut and digital perm was $170 ($120 for the perm itself), but because of my damaged hair, the nutrition added on $50. While I was waiting for the perm, Dk had 2 more customers come in for their hair cuts. Two guys, and their hair cuts looked great as well. His hair salon is actually one of many in this building of hair salons. It was an interesting set up. So many different people with different specializations were in this salon.
