After walking out with many failed haircuts at many salons in San Diego, I finally stumbled on Presidio Salon and I am now a loyal customer! This hidden gem is tucked away in Mission Hills--in an area that is infamous for having difficult parking, I haven't had much trouble with finding parking here and there are limited spots designated for customers. Yohei has been my stylist for the past two years and I am a loyal customer! He is truly dedicated to his craft and really takes his time to get to know his customer to make sure that their service/haircut will match your needs and lifestyle. This is truly something I appreciate so much when looking for a stylist because I am someone who struggles with my hair! Even though he has been doing my cut & color for the past few years, at the beginning of every appointment he still takes the time to talk about what I'm looking for and whether it will still fit my low maintenance style. Finally found one!! Yohey was awesome!!! and took great care explaining and listening to what I wanted to get done. The service and ambiance was wonderful. I have been looking for a long time for a good hair salon to fix my hair. I am very particular about how my hair is handled and the service given. I have been to several hair salons and I always end up with either a headache because their "heavy-handed," clothes getting ruined, getting water in my ears and behind my back... BUT NOT TODAY! Yohei has been my hairstylist for the last 8 years and have done a lot of services with him from short, medium, and long hair styles with all sorts of different colors. I feel very lucky to have someone so attentive to the small details. I am quite picky when it comes to my hair and I'm always leaving my appointments with Yohei happy. He's so patient, honest, and kind with his costumers that I could not imagine myself going to any other stylist. Yohei really cares about customer satisfaction. Can't really ask for anything else. Presidio presents a tranquil and welcoming vibe to it when you first walk in. Be Caution!!** So I've met Yohei for years since he was with Terra Hair & it was great to see he has his own salon that carries more relaxed atmosphere. Pros: 1. I'm a very low-profile person but still wants to try new colorings/styles in life. Yohei always able to provide the best hair color suggestions with great knowledge that fit my characters.  2. Not only his skills is top to notch, but also his quality is excellent. I've referred my good friend going for a haircut, and she is willing to drive 2Hr just to see him just because of his quality of work.  3. If you are looking for a trust-worthy hair-stylist for long term, he is the one. Yohei is easy to communicate with any hair concerns, and he is willing to work around for you. As a friend, he is also great to be with too. He knows a lot about sushi if you are a seafood/fish person like i do :P Cons: 1. for price, they are on the pricy side, but you truly get what you paid for. I've been to few famous Japanese Hair Salons in LA cause it's closer to me. But it turned out to be a big disappointment with expensive price tag on it.... 2. You may have troubles finding another salon that you like after having Yohei. I've tried to look for good salons in LA/NY/SF cause I moved a lot..., and there's only one Japanese salon in NY that I think it was about the same level. I don't usually write reviews, but Yohei has done such an amazing job with my hair cut and I couldn't be more satisfied.(Got a medium long hair cut with layers). He carefully listens and pay close attention to quite small details along with your preference. If you are looking for a great Japanese hairstylist for some reasons(such as you are used to having Japanese hairstylists in the past or want a simple/classic haircut but still somewhat has a particular style), I'd say Yohei is definitely worth a try. If you asked me last year how my experience was, it would've been 5 stars. But this last time was horrible. I'm not even gonna say anything about the color because there's much more important stuff to mention here. I saw Melissa and showed her what I wanted. I have naturally very blonde hair and about half my hair was light blonde and the other half was brownish from dying it black a year prior. I didn't want to bleach and was totally fine with some of the color being darker as it would be a darker base. She decided to use 40 volume developer on my light blonde hair... not only that, she left it on for too long and didn't rinse it all out! When I got home, I was watching tv and started to run my fingers through my hair when I realized some of my hair was cemented to my scalp from dried dye. I had to spend about an hour in the shower with a hair mask, hydrating shampoo, and a shit ton of patience trying to fix it. That's not all though. Because of the harsh developer and the hardened dye, my head is full of scabs. Also, since my hair was so light to begin with, Melissa missed a lot of my baby hairs and even some of my roots! Needless to say, I will not be going back. Next time, I'll do it myself. read more

He used to work in La Jolla which was more convenient for me but he gives the best hair cuts so I would probably follow him anywhere! For starters, the salon is super cute. Yohei was amazing! Aside from being really friendly, he really knows his craft. It was so refreshing to meet someone who loves what they do and are passionate about mastering their skill. I got a color and a cut and for the first time, was educated on what works best for my face shape and why, as well as some tips and tricks for healthier hair. I have been getting haircuts from Yohei since 2005. He just knows my hair so well that I just give him the freedom to do what he wants with my hair after discussing how much I want cut during my appointment. But even so, he will still discuss what he's envisioning before he goes into it which I think would put you at ease in case you get anxious or nervous before a haircut. He's very detailed and a complete perfectionist! It's really hard to find someone who completely understands Asian hair especially mine! I'm so glad he now has his own salon. It's about time!!!
