I live down in Sacramento so I normally use the local DMV's. I have always heard this DMV was quicker than most but I have never had a chance to see for myself. Fortunately I had a errand that brought me up to auburn so I decided to swing by and see if they lived up to the hype. O.M.G. I WILL NEVER GO TO A DIFFERENT DMV EVER AGAIN. I was in & out in 20 minuets... TWENTY MINUTES. It would of been quicker if I already filled out the form to get a new license so having to fill that form out added 5ish minutes to my visit. I recently moved states and was having a hard time getting my title transferred. After a LONG wait on hold a woman named Madeline (I hope I spelled this right) was more than helpful. She was over the top just a kind human and went out of her way to make sure I could get all the steps done online. She is great at customer service and deserves to be recognized for it! Just had my driving test here today. Was super nervous but the staff were very positive and thorough. Additionally, the driving exam proctor had the best demeanor and i passed! This location is also much less hectic than others (at least compared to some of the Bay Area DMV offices). read more

I was referred to this location as I desperately needed to get my car registration renewed. I arrived shortly after 8 AM and was quickly greeted by the nicest DMV associate ever! By the time she had given me guidance and my forms, my number was called and I was off to window 10, also serviced by a very nice associate. (Sorry--Didn't catch names, but I am sure you know who you are). I was out of there under 30 mins, the culture of the office at Auburn DMV was kind and friendly and would visit again in a heartbeat. I will recommended visiting this location when your DMV needs arise. The drive from Roseville was so peaceful and beautiful this time of year as an added bonus! Absolutely ridiculous. Staff was honestly laughable. First of all they're all airheads, second of all the lady that helped me (didn't catch her name) was incredibly rude. She also either lied to me or broke the rules, because she said since the car was in my dads name, (im 18 and they bought it for me) I couldn't get any information. But through our conversation she kept giving me information with major attitude. Completely rude. I'd rather wait 2 hours then have a fast experience with an incredibly rude and ludicrous staff. I think the fact alone she either lied to me or broke their rules should get this lady in trouble. read more

Today was a perfect morning at the DMV. Arrived at 8:45 ( opened at 9am) got in line outside. Information was taken by an employee as to what business you were doing while at the DMV. Was given a number. Doors opened, sat down for a few minutes and my number was called. I was renewing my DL licence. Thumbprint, photo, eye test and I was out the door and in my car by 9:15am. Line is short, hardly anybody here... just paying registration. Staff seems friendly and they are playing music (Led Zeppelin) in the background. Really have no complaints, but I live in Roseville and this is typically too far to drive. However, I had to visit a friend for lunch and got my DMV stuff done as well. read more

My experiences at this location for auto registration renewal service has been the worst DMV experiences in my life as a car owner in California, and recently, Nevada. On several visits to Auburn DMV, I sought instructions to update my vehicle's registration with payment which was always an ordeal with incomplete information and instructions, which required multiple re-visits with varied information and instructions depending on whom I spoke with. I was also later required to submit title verification document from Nevada which required long wait-times interface with Nevada's DMV Records Retention department in which required downloading documents at the public library and being notarized. On another visit, I was informed I needed a smog test, which I had done and passed with the results sent electronically according to the shop's owner, but was never received according to DMV, so I later returned with a hardcopy. After paying all required fees and fulfilling all requirements, I received my tags, but, to my surprise, dismay, confusion, frustration, and extensive time and energy spent, I later received in the mail my submitted documents minus my payments with notification that my tags were now invalid. Next step, find a different office. read more

IM IN SHOCK! This use to be the best DMV. I only travel to Auburn because I hate large crowds in small areas, where tempers have a tendency to flair, not for a convenience sake. But waiting 4hrs for a drivers license renewal was unnecessary, especially after the woman whom controls the number call que admitted to us that she did it intentionally. A man became angry when the call que skipped his number. His number was VR0040 - the que was on 0039, it skipped to 0042, so he started yelling that he had the following number, the woman yelled back a smart comment, then 0043, 0045, then continued to 0056, 0059, making him wait, then when they called him they put him on blast. This is how places get shot up these days! When the man left the building ranting I wanted to leave instantly, but a that point I had toooo much time invested. I was at there mercy and didn't feel much safer than I might have in a huge crowd. It wasn't til I cracked a joke about the anxiety that the number jumping had given me to the call que lady, that she said, "come back tomorrow, I'll be more creative with it!" I replied, "I knew it was intentional!" "At least you enjoy your job." On the way out the door I told the other people that I had been sitting with (for hours), that where hungry, tired, uncomfortable and concerned with the odd treatment of a Ca. State entity that we pay taxes into, that "I will pray for their early release, after all it felt like being held against my free will. Plus... I believe it was a residential thing. If you weren't a resident of Auburn, your need wasn't important or a priority in any capacity. I'm certainly not a happy camper today. Thank God I had someone to get my kids from school. read more

I went in around 8:30am and found the DMV to be fast and efficient. I was met at the door and immediately contacted and helped. I needed a vehicle pink slip and soon found out that I didn't fill out all the necessary paperwork. Employee Dan walked me through the entire process. He was nice and pleasant to deal with. Really friendly people for a DMV, so I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews. Of course I could just have gotten lucky. Anyway, wasn't too busy and everyone was super helpful. I took off one star because the woman who helped me had to keep getting up to deal with other stuff. Totally not her fault and she was sooooooo nice but more staffing would obviously be great. I gave 2 stars because my appointment was quick, HOWEVER, as I was waiting for my appointment I was observing those working and was quite frankly appalled at the total lack of professionalism. I observed one employee wearing a t-shirt, jeans and a pink bandanna like she was ready to clean the house. Another employee had a sloppy hoodie, multi colored hair with white sunglasses propped on her head. These people were as slow as molasses and the place wasn't busy. No wonder state workers have a dismal reputation. When you show up to work like you just rolled out of bed there is no way people can respect you as any kind of a professional. The kids at Jiffy Lube look more professional. I'm sad to see that this is how low our state has stooped to. It's downright embarrassing! read more

I had a problem my registration sticker didn't come in the mail I went to the DMV they issued a new sticker no problem I just need to show my insurance. The next year I had the same problem. I went to the DMV and I had to buy a new license because I have lost mine while I was there I wanted to take care of my registration sticker again the lady at the front told me that I had ignored the mail the temps told me that I have to go home and do it by mail even though I I told her that I knew she could give me my sticker because I've done it the year before. I left knowing she was lying to me. Because I use the mail my sticker didnt come on time and I ended up getting pulled over and have to go to court I have a perfect driving record. The lady that sits upfront she's a liar but what are you going to do she's a state employee!? read more

Auburn has tried to improve their internal facility but it still falls short of a place that shows and gives off the "friendly" welcome attitude. I do believe the workers are trying to be better but it is just a sad uneasy place to visit. Most, not all DMV facilities are much the same. UPDATE.. 1/30/16 - I started this review back in 2014, I have been in to the Auburn DMV offices about five times over these two years and it is much improved. But... don't expect much if you do not have an appointment! I found in most cases I got in and out with my business within thirty or so minutes. Their online services have really improved allot over the years and I do most of my requirements online. read more

I needed to speak with someone on the phone. There was a two-plus hour wait. I opted for a call back, and after waiting for two hours, a woman called me back. I asked my question and she asked me to hold while she checked. After the first few seconds, the line clicked back to the loop saying I had to hold for two hours or opt for a call back. I would like to preface this review by stating that my own view is that California DMV is a state piracy organization that exists only to double tax citizens (charge them arbitrary taxes they call "fees" to operate their own personal property on roads that they already paid to build and maintain through taxes, not to even mention the lack of follow through from the state to carry out road maintenance any time but an election year). That being said, some DMV offices seem to operate at far lower standards than others and this office is one of those. I originally applied for my license renewal in April and was told I could not renew because I didn't do my vision test, although all the offices were closed for testing. I offered to pay from my own pocket for a vision test through arguably the best optometrist in the surrounding area (Dr. Eugene Shlyakhov), but that was not an acceptable option for them. Having unqualified and disinterested DMV employees doing these tests is a much safer option, I'm sure. Spent 6 hours on hold to get this information too. I was told that DMV was handling these issues and drivers would be granted extensions on their vision tests and photos and licenses would be issued. So I waited... and waited... after 4 months I decided to stop into the Auburn DMV office to check the status. Absolutely no record of me ever applying. So, I applied again at the Auburn office since they were now open for business. I filled out the application, paid the slavemasters my fee to travel, took my new picture, and did my vision test. Then I waited... and waited... 4 more months and absolutely zero correspondence from DMV. Stopped back into the office where they proceeded to tell me that my vision test wasn't entered by the employee correctly and would have to be redone and re-entered. I am now back to waiting. This may sound like a minor inconvenience to some, but allow me to explain the worst implication of these "clerical errors". In the State of California, your constitutional right to own and bear arm is directly hinged on a state-issued photo ID. Myself and my wife are out of work and food is becoming more and more scarce. I need to hunt for my family to survive and DMV is, in this scenario, directly and indirectly responsible. Directly responsible because there should be absolutely zero room in their system for "clerical errors" when they are essentially the soul providers of certain constitutional rights, but indirectly responsible because California government is illegally requiring state-issued IDs for firearm purchase, when both state and federal law state that a passport is valid ID for purchase. That lays a large chunk of the blame for this situation of California DOJ and those who SHOULD BE making sure they follow their own laws. read more

I drove up from Roseville to the Auburn DMV to get my Real ID and also have Veteran status added to my license. Their office conveniently opens at 7 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays and I hoped the smaller DMV office, with earlier hours, would be a better experience than the huge, and very crowded and slow, Roseville DMV. What a great experience in Auburn! Only three people in line when I arrived at 6:35. At 6:50 a DMV employee came out with an I Pad and pre registered us. When it opened at 7 the DMV employees were courteous, cheerful, and efficient. I was done in half an hour and was home by 8 am to enjoy breakfast with my wife. read more

My husband and I both got our Real ID at Auburn DMV today. We did NOT have an appointment and we were in and out in about 40 minutes! The staff were all very friendly and made it a pleasant experience for us'. We recently moved from Southern California where I would NEVER try to go to the DMV without an appointment. When I first arrived to California I found the process for transferring tags and title to CA easy and seem less. In addition, the process for obtaining a CA license was easy, too. I did however take away two stars because this location seems to always be under staffed. read more

Was quite pleased with how friendly everyone I spoke with was. My visit was at most an hour to renew license as well as apply for Real ID.

It's too bad that people have such awful preconceived notions about the DMV. Many (perhaps) good people turn into hate-filled little monsters as soon as they walk through the door. I've seen it again and again. Cross the threshold and suddenly every bad thing ever imagined about government; every passing conspiracy theory absorbed like water in the desert of ignorance; every feeling of self-righteousness; every crockpot philosophy of taxation; every last tinge of warm, fuzzy, oozing ego trip that has passed through their mouths - bubbles up like some repressed Freudian ogre that simply can't be bothered to control itself. The -customers- of the Auburn DMV, far more than the employees, disappoint. It's so easy to kick back and take out all your aggression on the clearly captive crew that works behind the counter. Easy, easy, easy like pie. Too bad it's still wrong. I do not think ALL the customers of the Auburn DMV are like this. But a certainly disturbing proportion are, enough to make mention here on Yelp. The -worst- part about waiting at the DMV is having to hear the self-righteous, sh***y attitudes of the people around me. Sorries. I moved here from the South within the last two years. In my former DMV, there was no air conditioning, there was half as much room with three times as many people and a fifth of the government budget to work out the mess. Here ye, here ye, people of California. You're spoiled rotten so bad you don't even see it. Nothing wrong with air conditioning, of course. In fact, it's not something to be taken for granted. Freon isn't forever, folks. True, I can't relate to whatever emotional baggage the 'poor' people of the Gold Country experience, but it may be time to begin working through that. To hear people whine, you'd think the DMV employees were responsible for helping people work through their hangups, soothing their frayed nerves, assisting them in their quest to get whatever they want and how they want it. You'd think. But you'd be wrong. It's extremely easy to justify childish, insulting behavior on the basis of not liking "the government." Big bankers destroy the entire F***g economy, people go into banks with a smile on their face as though that whole "whoopsy daisy we stole the last bit of American wealth" didn't ever happen. A DMV employee who tries to stay polite despite being spit on by a neverending sea of people with chips on their shoulders, and OMG. Don't just loose your cool, throw a temper tantrum. Go big or go home, I guess. People go into the DMV to renew their license to b**ch, moan, stroke their pent-up egos, and generally sh*t all over the people they've decided it's okay to sh*t all over. Here's to the hard-working employees of the DMV who sit down and do what must be the world's crappiest job. Here's to the people that withstand daily death threats, sexual harassment, racist and misogynist piggery, and the cussing of people who never stopped and considered theyre among the most privileged people on this planet, standing in line waiting to inherit their 'right' to pollute the atmosphere just a little bit more.
