I would like to bring to your attention an issue we experienced during our visit to the DMV on March 6, 2026, around 3:50 PM. The employee who was distributing ticket numbers at the front desk was unfortunately very rude and dismissive toward us and several other visitors. When we approached the appointment line, she did not acknowledge us. When security informed her that we were present for our scheduled appointment on time, she told the security officer to "zip it" and continued to ignore us. When she refused to issue our appointment ticket, I politely asked what the process would be to schedule another appointment. At that point, she told us that we were "annoying" and asked us to get out of her face. The security officer, who had witnessed the interaction, kindly allowed us to enter the shorter indoor line because she felt we had been treated unfairly. When we eventually reached the same employee again to obtain our ticket, she spent several minutes berading us insisting that we did not have the required documents and repeatedly told us to go home and return another day. I explained that I had spoken with a DMV representative on the phone beforehand and was told that all documentation was already on file and that we only needed to bring our ID. Despite this explanation, she continued to dismiss us and used disrespectful language toward us. After several minutes of dismissing us and telling us that we were wasting our time and hers, she finally issued our ticket. When we were called to the service counter, the DMV representative simply checked our ID and informed us that our driver's license would arrive in a few weeks. The process itself was straightforward once we reached the counter. I would like to note that the security officer and the DMV representative who assisted us were both polite, helpful, and professional, and we truly appreciated their assistance. Unfortunately, the initial interaction at the front desk delayed our visit significantly and created a very negative experience. I respectfully ask that management review this situation. The individual responsible for greeting customers and distributing tickets is often the first point of contact for visitors, and it is important that this role be handled by someone who treats the public with professionalism, respect, and courtesy. We understand that the DMV can be a busy and stressful environment, but visitors also take time out of their day to attend their appointments. We hope that in the future this position can be staffed by someone who is knowledgeable and courteous to the public. read more

That was by thee worst dmv I've ever been to. The staff was not only extremely rude, unhelpful but aggressive jus down right unprofessional. After they took my passport "could not find it" until the employee who had it last got off her lunch break it magically reappeared. Said I left it in the parking lot. I honestly dont know how that place is even open. Do not trust anyone who works there. Expect the security guard she was very nice and the only person who's a conscious human being. The even crazier part one of there in employees while im getting yelled at by another comes up to me and tell me that Jesus loves me. Like are the using drugs what in the church separated by state is going on over there. I almost called the cops on them. I finally retrieved my passport back. I've been to this DMV over the years. This last time was kind of the worst experiences in my life to get a Real ID without an appointment. L O C A T I O N Located off of Dusterberry Way and Central Ave. Parking is a nightmare if you're not there as soon as it's open. We took one lap around the parking lot and not one spot open. Try your luck but I found a spot near the park which is a 2hr spot which can be not enough time if you don't have an appointment. E X P E R I E N C E We filled out a Real ID application online and unfortunately appointments were only available the next month. So we took a chance on a Friday with no appointment. I took a look online to see how long the wait was when it opened, so I was like oh 3 min, that's not that long. Well we arrived around 9am and it said 30 min. Still not too bad. There isn't a line outside after the doors open. So make sure you go inside as you may waste time waiting outside like some people. There are two lines. One for appointments which if you go through the "main" entrance facing Central, it's directly a few paces away from the door, so walk forward. The no appointment line is to the right of the doors. After waiting in line to get a number, it was roughly 9:15am and the wait time is now 45 min according to the website. So I'm like sure 45 minutes. That's fine. OH btw, make sure you ask for the number to be written down on a post-it because although they asked for a phone number, they can type it incorrectly which happened in our case. Good thing we remembered the number otherwise we would've never gotten service. Actually more to that later. We finally got called to a window closer to 11am. Yeah...that's not 45 minutes folks. Then when we got to the window, the clerk gave us a bit of an attitude because we didn't have a number or proof we had a number. So she still met with us but that already put us into bad footing with her. Though again, it wasn't our fault. She also provided us the application to review and I noticed we didn't fill one portion correctly and she was like "Well it's what you filled out. That's what you put on the application." So I calmly said that I must have incorrectly answered it and if we could fix it. She then said that she didn't have the answer to the question to fix it. And I again said, I can provide the information so she finally gave us a post-it to provide the fix. Then after providing two answers, she's like there's only one spot for an answer, so you have to pick one of these. I'm like...deep breath. We picked one, we reviewed the answers again and everything finally looked good and we were then sent to the line for photos. We were finally all done by 11:18am. That's like 2 hours from when we got the number. So do not trust the wait time on the website. It's basically the length of time for someone who finished at that time you looked at the website. Again this wait time can be different for the type of process you're doing. O V E R A L L I understand the struggle and frustration from the clerks as it's not a great spot to be. But we were being nice about everything and unfortunately got their attitude building from other experiences. Do not trust the wait time numbers. Basically take that number you see and subtract from the time you're looking at. That's when they had to come into the office. I think in retrospect, I should've just gone to the Pleasanton office as their wait times didn't go higher than 30 minutes. Maybe next time I'll do that with or without an appointment. read more

I've managed a fleet of vehicles for decades so I've had my share of DMV visitors over the years. Of course it's like getting toothpicks up your fingernails every time but this location is probably is worse off than the others. I sympathize with the onslaught of ill-prepared customers which must be a tough job for the counter staff. My issue is that the DMV has decades of experience but doesn't seem to make any process improvements to make it easier on everyone. They really need one gate keeper to direct traffic as they have people wandering all over interrupting desk staff at random. They also need a priority line or different location for business clients and commercial vehicles. It's probably smarter to use a third party facility and pay extra to get your paperwork completed correctly and politely. Example: Queue signage is poor. You have one outside on sidewalk and then a completely different queue inside. I wasted 20 minutes standing in exterior queue only to find out that my queue was not valid Website wait time is also not correct. It said "44 min" when I walked in with no appointment. I'm now two hours waiting and there is not much hope I will get in today. No good cell service inside so you can't even work while waiting. Though Newark/Fremont is known for its poor cell service so I should have known better. My favorite DMVs are in Santa Cruz County. Don't tell too many people of this little secret read more

Do NOT come here without an appointment otherwise you are SOL. If you have an appointment then you are in and out relatively fast. Parking is extremely limited so either be prepared to walk a distance (and be mindful of no parking zone) or be ready to loop around the parking lot many times. It does get extremely stuffy in the waiting area. read more

I went on this establishment in which I knew that it will be packed with people cause its Friday! Silly of me. To my amazed, i was immediately been entertained. Thanks to all the employess who are well trained and kept it well organized so that the line will flows smoothly. I gave 4 stars so that they will improve more but on my scale a 100%! read more

The place is full of bozos. After 3 hours and going into 4 separate lines(with 4 service numbers) my 16 year old nephew passes his learner's permit. Then while waiting in line to submit the passed test a security guard comes up and says parents need to wait somewhere else and not in line. Hmm..that's strange. Everyone else in line has their kids with them. Why leave an underaged kid by himself in line with a bunch of grownups that I have no idea what their mental makeup are? Isn't that being irresponsible? He only asked me so I am not sure why I was being singled out as other adults were in line waiting with their teenagers in line. Really good experience here, the Stoneridge Mall location not so much. If you are applying for a Real Id make sure you get the email confirmation for your appointment, which I know is standard but the website will give you the code before setting the appointment so be sure to click through everything on the site. They are quick to reject you for anything so make sure your paperwork and address are correct and show up EARLY for your appointment. Best of luck! read more

This is a review for my experience in renewing my driver license to a "real" ID. It was a very easy and smooth process. If you apply online and bring the recommended documents, it speeds up the process. It took about 15 minutes without an appointment for completing the vision test, receiving the interim license, and getting a photo taken. Tip: Apply online and go when they open to avoid long wait times. There was no line when I went around 8am on a Tuesday. read more

Was awaiting my for my new license to come in and just in case wanted to have my temporary driver's license in hand. Surpringly, my whole trip was about 15 minutes or less. I did come later in the afternoon, so maybe that's why it helped. The DMV was busy, but no line outside. read more

Indian male examiner was either having a bad day or just wanted to fail me because my permit expired the day after,I had a CDL driving test today and my permit expires tomorrow and he decides to make up some bs about my tanks loosing pressure and gave me this excuse that he let me correct myself and I didn't,my tanks did not lose any pressure my needle didn't move at all,I hope I do t get him in my next exam I even went in to talk to the supervisor and he said nothing can be done,he should not be allowed to be a CDL test examiner he doesn't even dress up like he's going to work they should have a professional dress code not like he's out pan handling. read more

This Fremont location I would recommend highly. Sonya is the very best manager they have at this place. There was an issue with getting our licenses. She came in because another great manager tried to correct the issue but could not. This lady I tell took seat at her computer and figured it out and kept us informed about each step she was taking. She was apologetic about the lengthy time it was taking. I watch how she kept her focus and made absolutely sure she was going to figure it out. Her professionalism and great attitude kept us from feeling tired and angry about the longer wait time it was taking. Sonya deserves "Employee" of the year! read more
