I went to Yelp looking for a better option and definitely found one! Halo was able to come out within a couple days of contacting them and the diagnostic fee was $89, which was to be applied to any work performed if needed. it turned out it was a tripped breaker they were able to reset and my system is cooling perfectly again... for $89!! The most notable and appreciated factor for me is they didn't come in trying to sell me service plans, upgrades to my system or accessories, or otherwise upsell me on a well maintained and well functioning older HVAC system. Even when I asked for a quote on a heat pump to take advantage of the rebates while they last, Halo didn't push me to pick the most expensive option or upsell me on a pricier type of system. And icing on the cake - despite a lot of in and out while working on figuring things out, my technician was constantly putting on and taking off booties to keep my house clean. However, they did not have an igniter on hand for our particular furnace. We did not hear back from them about when an igniter would come or how much it would cost. We ended up buying one ourselves, but this still did not solve the problem. Turns out there was a cap on top of the chimney that was blocking the exhaust from leaving the home. Once this cap was removed the furnace fired up and worked perfectly.

We called to explain the issue, sent them the picture of exactly what needed to be repaired, and confirmed (twice) that they would not charge a diagnostic fee. Also confirmed that they'd give us a $25 GC based on a promotion they were running. Then they charged us a diagnostic fee ($119), wouldn't honor the GC, and didn't even send a receipt. On top of that, they charged even more than they said - they quoted us one amount in the beginning, the repair person who came out told us we owed them another (but similar to first quote), and they ended up charging us more than either. I had to call multiple times and basically settle at higher amount to pay while they dismissed the diagnostic fee. Oh, and they did not honor the GC. I still haven't gotten my receipt yet.

So I Googled and You Tubed...how do you fix a capacitor on a Trane A/C? After watching a couple...I went to Ace and bought a new capacitor...yanked the old one off and put the new one on...with a little bit of Jerry-rigging as it was skinnier than the old one and didn't fit the bracket...and voila! Air conditioner is humming along nicely!!! Saved a lot of money! Thanks Dorothy at Davey Heating and Cooling! It's nice to have great customer service even though I never used your service. With her on the line I found a blown fuse on the units motherboard and was able to replace it (props to Home Depot for having them in stock). Bottom line, she was polite, responsive AND helped me solve the issue over the phone at no cost. I will definitely call Davey Heating and Air for all my HVAC needs in the future.
