Beef enchiladas

Another delicious meal at Dona Julia with friends. Ambience nice open space and clean. Service very professional and friendly. Very price friendly as well. This is our go to for Mexican food at the shore. Give them a try and you will be happy!

Beef Brisket tacos, Fish tacos
Michael D.

Service was friendly and quick, ambiance is about the same as most other hole-in-the-wall Mexican spots, and the food ranges from delicious to average. Whenever a typical freebie is charged a la carte I expect it to be superior to the typical version, such as with chips or bread for that matter. Therefore $10 for chips with guacamole seems a little pricey, even if guacamole would be an up-charge anywhere elseregardless. The chips start at $5 for a simple platter with mild red salsa. While nice and fresh, they were simply good chips--not better than the average complimentary basket. Their guacamole is extremely creamy, almost too much so for me. Meanwhile, their green salsa is spicier than most with good flavor. The tacos, fortunately, were delicious. Both the beef brisket and the fish tacos would get a 9.x rating. Their homemade corn tortillas are excellent, the meat and fish are seasoned well, and there are plentiful toppings for authentic flavor. For $4-$5 they're priced decently as well. A chorizo torta was loaded with ingredients and served on solid bread, but it was average compared to exceptional versions I've had in the past which have also come with fries and/or chips from other places. I would come back since the tacos were worth in this case jogging out of town to get, but I think I would strategize my plan better: maybe one serving of chips with salsa, then 3-4 tacos. Better yet for sharing: a platter of tacos, which has to be ordered a la carte, could be phenomenal.

Kids chicken fingers ($10)

A little bit of a hole in the wall which is usually fine for us. The portions weren't especially huge and unlike most spots, even your first round of chips and salsa will run $4. The kids chicken fingers didn't really look like chicken. The fajitas are smothered in cheese, which is NOT criticism, just know before you order in case you don't want cheese.

Sopa De Tortilla was amazing!

Food all tasted fresh and waitstaff were extremely friendly. Restaurant was clean as well.

Beef enchilada

Found this place on yelp when I was looking for some Mexican while visiting point pleasant. I went in for lunch and it seemed like an authentic establishment with a menu of lots of good traditional Mexican items. I did the beef enchiladas and it was a very healthy portion. Little cubes of fairly tender meat smothered in cheese , rice and beans on side. I will go back and try some other dishes for sure

Chalupas

Great service and clean restaurant. The food was super good and their horchata was tasty. I did think that the chalupas would have a thicker shell but they were corn tortillas. Still good though. My shrimp enchiladas were flavorful but the cheese inside needed to be more melted. The rice and beans were really good. The flan was good and the caramel was just right.

Shrimp and spicy pork tacos

Great gem. Servers there are super friendly and warm. Highly recommend their chicken tomato soup! Soooo good, the shrimp taco was fine, spicy pork taco was just ok, very dry. It's a byob place in case you want some alcohol to drink.

Doña Julia is a great local spot in PPB for authentic Mexican cuisine. I've only been here a few times, but each time has been fantastic. Don't miss out on the enchiladas!

The only saving grace is that it is byob. The waitress was cold and aloof. Maybe she doesn't like her job. The food was bland as they likely cater to the Americanized population in that area. The beef in particular was very bland. The tortilla soup was good but cold, sent it back to warm up and it was warm at best but not hot. We added hot sauce to everything which is fine but we don't like super spicy. We like actual FLAVOR, herbs and spices without having to necessarily add too much hot sauce. The prices were fair. It's a hole in the wall and a bit dingy.

Chicken Burrito
Chad V.

This was my first time visiting Doña Julia. I had the chicken burrito. It had a nice flavor as did the beans and rice. Like in some of the reviews I read prior to going, the cheese wasn't really melted inside the burrito. Overall it was good and worth a visit.

The two women working did not acknowledge me in any way as they talked with the kitchen staff for several minutes while I stood a few feet in front of them at the counter. I was the only customer. Finally I said "I'd like to place a take out order please." Neither of the employees spoke but just raised their eyebrows so I said I wanted the veggie quesadilla. They wordlessly nodded and pointed to the credit card machine. I politely said I would pay cash and the one woman stared at me without responding and the second woman turned away to speak with kitchen staff again. The first woman took my cash and handed me change, again without any facial expressions or saying anything at all. It was damn eerie! The quesadilla came out quickly and could have been made by a 10 year old. Some shredded flavorless cheese between two undercooked store bought tortillas with some thawed-from-frozen unseasoned mixed broccoli/mushrooms, bland rice, and a beans from a can on the side. For flavor they gave me a tiny cup of warm sour cream and a tiny cup of sour green salsa. Two stars because it was edible and only cost $11.00. Also, the bathroom was clean and there was a lot of free parking.

But you do, I said, it's on the menu in the seafood boil. The waitress went to the kitchen and return saying we don't sell them separately. It's a seafood place for crying out loud. So we ordered the seafood boil as an appetizer and took the clams out. I ordered the fish tacos, which were just OK. The worst thing about the dish was the bland rice and the black beans that were served apparently right out of the can with no seasoning. You could've at least thrown some spices in them. I had to ask for a side of salsa to give the beans some flavor We had several appetizers and quite a large group. The waitress handled the group very well.

We were greeted right away from a friendly welcoming man and were seated right away. I had the birria taco and barbacoa taco - barbacoa taco was the best one. So flavorful and filling. The birria taco tried its best but if you want something authentic it's definitely not here for the birria taco. The broth was more tomato base than what it's supposed to be and the taco itself was a bit more tougher than the authentic Mexican dish. My son enjoyed his burger but didn't care for the fries or cheese sauce on the side he ordered. My fiancé didn't care for his skirt steak sandwich too much, as it was difficult to chew.
